This is the thread for all those movies you're too ashamed to admit you love! Just tell us what the movie is and why you love it! We can hang our heads in shame together.
I adore 'That Thing You Do' I watch it whenever it's on TV. It's such a feel good movie and I really like the song ... Also Tom Hanks is my old man crush... *sigh*
'Titanic' I know it's pathetic, but I do cry while watching it. I used to watch it every weekend with my friend, but I've cut it down.
-
For some reason, I have a soft spot for Michael J. Fox films from the 80's, especially Teen Wolf and Secret of my Success.
-
Save the Last Dance.
(this is coming from someone whose favorite director is Peter Greenaway, for fuck's sake. I have no excuse. :))
-
TEEN WOLF!!!! oh yes, baby!
I love lots of cheesy old 80's movies, I'm sorry dammit now you all know my guilty little secret, shush don't tell anyone else
-
I love Final Destination. And the Urban Legend movies.
-
Speaking of '80s movies, anything with a Corey in it works for me. If it has both of 'em, all the better! (Or worse, depending on your point of view.)
-
Defcon 4. Such an awful movie, but soo amazingly entertaining. I mean, when a preppie commands a survivalist army and takes over Nova Scotia, only to be defied by a hygenically challenged farmer with a war-wagon backhoe and the crew of a nuclear attack satellite, how can you go wrong?
-
Ooo how could I forget Molly Ringwald movies ?
-
sometimes i feel weird for liking Godzilla movies.
-
I feel no shame about any of the shows or movies that I enjoy watching.
I have a feeling sometimes, though, that I really should.
-
Ooo how could I forget Molly Ringwald movies ?
My heart belongs to the brat-pack, and all things associated with them. Is a D.V.D. box-set too much to ask?!
-
Um.. Everything from the 80's that Wynona Rider is in. Heh.. Don't mock. Heathers rocks, so does Beetlejuice.
-
Sometimes I think I am the only person alive who thought the Matrix: Reloaded was actually pretty cool. I was drunk when I saw it though, so I wasn't really paying much attention to the wanky philosophy of it.
-
I have a few movies that I'm ashamed to have enjoyed (and continued enjoying).
The Rundown
Baseketball
Anchorman
-
I really enjoyed the Rundown - much more than I thought I would.
Anchorman didn't really work for me so much, but I've only seen it the once and I went if with very high expectations.
I like all three Matrix movies. The first is the best by far, of course, but the second two have their good points - cool fight scenes, Agent Smith being badass, and Monica Belluci.
Other movies I like but probably shouldn't: I really like the most recent version of Peter Pan, as well as the Powerpuff Girls Movie, and The Princess Bride.
-
Cool Runnings
I want to mock it, but seriously...
JAM-EH-KA WE AVE' EH BOB SLED TEAM!
-
lol man, cool runnings is super classic. one of the best movies EVAR!
-
Other movies I like but probably shouldn't . . . The Princess Bride.
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF.
-
Yeah, the Princess Bride roxorz.
-
Heh...I'm not ashamed of necessarily liking any of the movies or shows that I like. There are a few, though, that I'm ashamed to admit I've watched:
Bring It On- I was bored one afternoon and it was on. I still feel that this is a step or two above "You Got Served."
I'd love to be able to say I've never watched a single episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer (I'd really, really love to be able to say that) but sadly, this isn't the case. I've seen two episodes of this godawful series in full, one of which was this terrible musical episode, and both of which were forced upon me by a drunken friend one Thanksgiving.
Oh wait. I guess there actually is one I'm embarrased I used to like:
I'm embarrassed I ever thought Reality Bites was interesting. Funny how your perspective on those things changes with distance.
-
Chasing Amy makes me cry.
Does that count?
-
I love the Breakfast Club and other brat pack movies, and I'm not really ashamed of it.
I am a bit ashamed to say that I both saw and enjoyed "Bring it On" in the theater when it came out. Twice.
-
I, too, have an irrational love for Bring It On. The one thing that's restrained me from buying it is that I've never seen it for a less-than-high price. I will never, ever, watch the sequel, though.

I do so love Buffy, and I love the musical episode - but it's really not the best place to start with the series. It only really works if you know the characters. Plus by Season 6, then show was going downhill. If you watched, say, season 2, you'd understand why so many people love the show.
...I should watch the Princess Bride again, soon - it is a delight of a film.
-
The Breakfast Club, I love this movie. And um....About A Boy
-
Oh, crap, just remembered.
Picnic at Hanging Rock, not really that I'm embarassed by it, it's just such an odd movie that I had to mention it.
Another one would be Big Trouble in Little China.
-
In Australia, Picnic at Hanging Rock is virtually deified.
-
If a Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan movie comes on TV, I won't change the channel. And I will annoy people by not going anywhere UNTIL IT IS FINISHED.
I should probably be stabbed for this.
-

I've never seen a Hillary Duff movie - none of them have really appealled to me. I do, however, love Lizzie McGuire (I have the first two seasons on DVD). I really should be ashamed of that, I think.
-
Chasing Amy makes me cry.
Does that count?
I cry like a little girl... I am youngish though... and a girl, but still it's a sad movie.
-
Lizzie McGuire?
Man, Gordo is totally hot for a pre-teen boy TV star from a country millions of miles away.
-
Big Trouble Little China is definitely a movie I love.
Reckless Kelly, saw this on HBO once. I think it's a Yahoo Serious movie.
The Parent Trap - Lindsay Lohan's first movie. I saw it when i was younger and enjoyed the hell out of it.
10 Things I Hate About You is easily one of my favourite movies. I don't really feel guilty about that one.
I kinda like "O" and "Save the Last Dance." I used to have a thing for Julia Stiles.
This one is really bad. Star Trek V. The one with Sybok. It's terrible, but I enjoy it.
-
I used to have a thing for Julia Stiles.
Used to? Man, I still do!
-
Secret of my Success.
All I remember from that is the scene where everyone in the house is running around the halls, doing one of those scenes where everyone misses the other by a minute by going into this door and that door. And the "Ooh Yeah" song (you know, the one that was playing during the final credits of Ferris) was playing.
Also, my own choice has to be House Party. I can't explain it. I shouldn't like this movie. I'm a huge Hitchcock fan. I usually go for standard quality flicks, but House Party was kicking.
-
Two I'd forgotten:
Scanners. All the Scanners movies, except I haven't seen Scanner Cop I or II yet.
And, um, I love Crocodile II. LOVE it. Watch it every time it's on TV, and have made most of my friends watch it. It's completely horrible, but it's got multicultural criminals, giant crocodiles, alcoholic guides, and proof that love transcends all, damnit. Even central american marshland filled with the aformentioned criminals and crocodiles.
-
Big Trouble in Little China
The Princess Bride
Are we still talking about movies we're ashamed to like? Because those are two of the most kick-arse movies ever. You would have to torture me just to stop me from going on and on about how awesome they are.
-
Lizzie McGuire?
Man, Gordo is totally hot for a pre-teen boy TV star from a country millions of miles away.
That's... disturbing. He is funny, though. As are so many characters on that show - Gordo, Matt, Lanny, Ethan, Lizzie's parents - it's so delightful. The only boring characters, really, are Lizzie and Miranda. Apart from them, it's all gold.
-
In Australia, Picnic at Hanging Rock is virtually deified.
Yet I still haven't seen it. I suppose I could always use the 'I'm a foreigner' excuse.
Is The Princess Bride that one where one guy's trying to poison the other and they keep swapping glasses (I think?). If it is, it's a classic.
-

I've lived here since being born, and I've not seen it. And never will. I suppose I'll just have to use the "it sounds really boring" excuse.

That's the one. There's also lots of swashbucking. I do have a love of the swashbucking.
-

I remember we watched it in music class in high school. It was kinda creepy, but I dont remember any actual payoff. That was probably because I fell asleep rather early.
Also, in the Princess Bride, the swordfight with Inigo Montoya at the top of the cliff with all the rocks everywhere is pretty much some of the best swashbuckling I have ever seen done on screen, although, whenever I think of the word "Swashbuckling" I think "Fruity sword-fighting in a style that noone in their right mind would actually use if they were fighting for their life

heh - good point, although if I could swashbuckle, I would, at every opportunity. I watch The Mark of Zorro (1940s-style) on the weekend - that had some pretty sweet swashbuckling in it, as well. I'm certainly looking forward to Legend Of Zorro.
-
If they made a Degrassi or a Degrassi: The Next Generation movie, I would be there and I would love it.
-
Dude, they did make a Degrassi movie!!
-
Big Trouble in Little China is 14 types of awesome.
-
Dude, they did make a Degrassi movie!!
WHAT?
Oh shit. Adding that to netflix now.
-

Oh shit. Adding that to netflix now.
Actually Kevin Smith is making a 'Degrassi: the Next Generation' movie after he finishes 'Clerks 2'. He's actually a really big Degrassi fan.
-
Just watched
THE RUNNING MAN
Arnie is a badass, anyone who doesn't think so is obviously a Communist.
-
I LOVE arnie movies...
Totally COMPLETELY LOVE Arnie movies!
Is it bad that a girl loves arnie movies, should I be ashamed?
The cheese.. oh yes, the cheese!
-
wow
You live in a city that is 20 minutes from me!
You like Arnie movies!
........ Nothing more needs saying.
-
Actually I was saying to Astaldo we should do a QC Notts meet up for shits and giggles!
Anyway, Arnie is one of my heros... Bruce Campbell is the other!!
I just love cheesy one liners!
-
True Lies and Terminator are Arnie's best. That is all.
-
PREDATOR!!!!
after Dutch (Arnie) has nailed a guy to the wall with a BIG knife
Dutch: Stick around.
Commando
"Let of some steam, bennett"
GENIUS!
-
Predator's in third.
- "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
- "You're bleeding." "I don't have time to bleed".
Last Action Hero is up there as well, even if only for "Hamlet: First Action Hero"
-
Of course, the best reason to watch Predator is Jesse Ventura.
"This stuff'll turn you into a god-damned sexual tyrannosaurus."
-
"Son of a bitch is dug in tighter than an Alabama tick."
That quote can be used in so many situations!
-
I have the Double CD Predator Special Edition. And on one of the On-Set things, it shows Jesse beating arnie in a Gym contest.
Jesse : Turns out Jesse Ventura has bigger biceps then Arnold Shwarzennegar, and that makes Jesse Ventura feel PRETTY - DAMN - GOOD"
-
I kinda like "O" ... I used to have a thing for Julia Stiles.
Oh Mnem... i don't even think that the boyish sexyness of Julia Stiles could make up for the poor excuse of a movie that was O. I mean the scene where he holds the ring up and spins is just terrible. Although when Josh Hartnet says "I would give my LEFT NUT! to be in your shoes". As I was watching the movie, i wanted him to get away with it really, i spose i sympathised with this..."iago" more than the traditional one.
My dirty little secret?
Ali G Indahouse. I love that movie, it's just so vulgar and simple minded that it's funny. The part where Ali says
"Cmon, lets blow up somewhere shitty like wales, i heard the prime minister of Wales called your mum a slag"
"I am the prime minister of wales"
"Well you shouldn't talk bout your mum like that init?"
-
Oh dear.
See, there's this one Hilary Duff Movie....It's called Cadet Kelly, and they air it on the family channel, like, once every two months.
So far, I have watched it EVERY TIME.
Please stab me.
-
Oh Mnem... i don't even think that the boyish sexyness of Julia Stiles could make up for the poor excuse of a movie that was O."
Well, I never said it was a good movie... :-P
-

I've seen parts of that - (I think it has Iceman in it, as well) - is it good?
I've watched the entirety of Casper meets Wendy (Duff's first role, I think).
-
Ali G Indahouse. I love that movie, it's just so vulgar and simple minded that it's funny.
Well, actually it's really clever....
If you knew the people he's taking the piss out of you would appreciate how funny he really is.
-
I gotta say that Arnie movies are really great. Obviously theres T2 and the original Terminator, but also True Lies, Total Recall, Last Action Hero, The Running Man, Predator.
So many one-liners, so many guns and 'splosions, so much broken English. Brilliant!
-
Kindergarden Cop must be added to that list.
-
Really? Hmm, I guess so.
Kid: "Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina."
Arnie: "Thanks for the tip."
-
Too many good quotes from that movie. "It's not a tumor!" will go down in history.
-
I've got one to 'fess up: Charlie's Angels.
-
Monty Pythons, The Life of Brian, and The Holy Grail, 'Nuff said if your a python fan.
-
You hate yourself for loving three films which pretty much everyone agrees are awesome?
You got yo self some issues holmes
-
Not really hate, It's just, they floor me everytime..even if it was just a constant python rerun of those three films...i'd be floored every time
-
I kinda like "O" ... I used to have a thing for Julia Stiles.
Oh Mnem... i don't even think that the boyish sexyness of Julia Stiles could make up for the poor excuse of a movie that was O. "
i totally watched that movie for the sole purpose of julia stiles. ...sigh.
sure, i tried to hope the acting could have been better, but no. just julia, and her beautifulness. ~.~
-
Not really hate, It's just, they floor me everytime..even if it was just a constant python rerun of those three films...i'd be floored every time
So you don't hate youself for loving them? :P
-
I second Charlie's Angels. Mostly because of the aforementioned 'splosions, but also 'cause it has added boobies, martial arts and Crispin Glover.
-
True Lies
Most awkward moment of my life. Watching the strip scene in true lies...with my mother...if thats not awkward enough she says "You know, Jamie Lee Curtis has the greatest tits ever" "Alright Mum, nice sitting with you, i'll go hang myself."
-
I watched 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' with my father when I was around twelve... If you haven't seen it there is a lot of nudity and sex scenes ... I think I slouched lower in my seat than I thought possible.
-
Other movies I like but probably shouldn't . . . The Princess Bride.
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF.
I wish the same could be said for my Princess movie...
The Princess Diaries.
There is just something about that damned movie that makes me want to watch it.
And yeah, The Princess Bride rocks.
-
I have legally blonde 1 & 2 on dvd at home and i constantly watch it

-
Drop Dead Fred--everyone makes fun of me for liking this movie.
Muppet Treasure Island--so much fun when I've been drinking.
How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days--no excuse! This movie is terrible, but for some reason I keep watching it!
Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement--man this is awful, but I grin like a dope everytime I see it.
-
I love the Abbot and Costello movies, Namley Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstine.
Also I love the original Fog, And All the Charlie Brown movies.. Also I cannot forget The Goonies....

Seriously. I don't care what people say--Booger jokes are funny.

I was told that I should hate myself for liking The Castle. Come on, it's a classic.
-
hollowman, stir of echoes
what can I say, I love kevin bacon.
-
I'm actually not ashamed of loving this movie...Bushwhacked!
-
I saw "Sugar and Spice" and some strange part of me enjoyed it, but conan O' Brien's in that movie so I have an excuse.........sort of, but I am ashamed.
-
I am utterly ashmaed of loving Dazed and Confused. Kill me! :)
-
A little late on this, but here goes:
Rigoletto
The Last Dragon
Surf Ninjas (apparently I like Ernie Reyes Jr)
Free Willy
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion
Author! Author!
-
Would that Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon?
I thought about giving that as a white elephant gift along with The Hebrew Hammer, but instead I ended up with the He-Man/She-Ra Christmas Special.
-
Weekend at Bernie's.
Weekend at Bernie's 2.
-
Six String Samurai.
Sometimes I think I should look away, look away and never look back but I can't.
-
Why do you hate yourself for loving that brilliant, near-transcendental bit of cinema? I can't find my copy and it makes me cry whenever I think of all the soviet-slashing badassness I'm missing out on.
-
Oh Wild Zero... Loved it... and am dead embarassed about it...
"Rock and Roll!!!!"
-
Oh Wild Zero... Loved it... and am dead embarassed about it...
You have nothing to be embarassed about! Aliens, zombies, and GUITAR WOLF! Hell, my pick involved Jonathan Silverman, Andrew McCarthy, and a walking dead guy.
-
GUITAR WOLF FTW!!!
But I am far from ze average girlie.. movies I love tend to involve random elements like 'splosions, arnie, guns, zombies, aliens and random crazy quotes!
I just love currrazay movies! :)
The happiness of the katikuris was awesome.
-
Ah, who else but Guitar Wolf would remind us that love has no borders, nationalities, or genders?
Rock and Roll isn't dead. Rock and Roll never dies.
-
10 Things I Hate About You, Coyote Ugly, Bring It On...bad stuff, I know...Lindsey Lohan movies...yeah...Arnie movies...Charlie's Angels...
True Lies and Terminator are Arnie's best. That is all.
Yes...and Twins...
The Princess Diaries.
It's the line. THE LINE. "Because you saw me when I was invisible." I watch that film for that line. Me=loser.
Muppet Treasure Island
It's the songs, all about the songs...
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion
Listed as my favourite movie on my deviantART profile.
If you watched, say, season 2, you'd understand why so many people love the show.
Season 3. Season 3. Is the best. Then goes terribly downhill. Riley? Dawn? Ew. At that point it's best to switch to watching Angel, imho.
-
i probably should be ashamed that i like "city of angels" and "friends" (even though that one doesn't fall under the movie category), but nuts to that!
*snicker* butt nuts
-
major leagues...something about charlie sheen is anoys the hell out of me, but that movie makes me miss apointments when it's on...also hot shots part deux...I know I'm lame...
-
Princess Bride? Predator?! Life of Brian!?! Some of these movies are GREAT movies -- no two ways about it! Even The Breakfast Club is cheesy and dated, but undeniably GOOD. What do you people hate yourself for loving these? Crazy talk! CRAZY TALK, I say!
MY favorite shitty movie is Cocktail. An inarguably bad movie -- but with many very small, great moments.
The alchohol throwing, the great shitty lines ("beer... is for breakfast"), Elizabeth Shue AND Gina Gershon...
It made me want to be a bartender. So I became one (for a couple of years). We didn't juggle bottles, though.
-
White Oleander and The Virgin Suicides. I wont tell anyone I like them but I definately downloaded them and have them secretly stashed away in my harddrive where I keep all my porn.
