This could conceivably be in the QC Discussion section, but I'm going to tip it over here.
I notice Jeph seems to know when things have leaked, and so do a lot of other people on this board. This leads me to believe that a lot of people use some BitTorrent sites to get them. I don't know if it's cool to talk about which we use, but how many people use BT sites?
I use one that I think usually has great quality.
For a part two, do you feel you buy more or less after starting this sort of thing. I personally buy at least 3 times more, but it could just have to do with a better cash flow.
(Let's stay off the topic of whether or not this is a cool practice, downloading music.)
-
I use it a lot for video, but I have a hard time finding sites that provide the kind of music I'm interested in. Honestly filesharing hasn't affected my purchasing habits all that much because I don't have the disposable income to buy a ton of CDs. There are certainly plenty of artists that I heard through the internet, then went out and got their CD though. The difference is that I was exposed to music I wouldn't have heard otherwise, so when I have the cash to make a purchase, it goes to a good cause. More importantly (I think) there are a lot of artists who I heard on the internet then went to see live.
-
Yes I do, and I am so much more into music now. I would definantly go see bands live that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of. Also, when I get money, I am more likely to buy CDs.
-
I use one frequently. Though, not usually for music..
I buy CD's all the time, I'll buy a CD before something necessary on most days.

The first rule of BitTorrent is you do not talk about BitTorrent. Candy is a much safer discussion.
Having said that, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, and I have a number of options open to me to cure it, depending on what I'm craving. Some of these are specialty shops though.
-
I can't use bittorrent here at Uni, but at home I was all over it. Music and TV Shows only. Purchasing wise, I spent all my money on music before BT, and I still do. I have more money to spend now though.
-
I'm on a few music-related bittorrent sites, and they're pretty good for testing stuff out or checking out new bands.
It usually goes like: find an album by a band I've hard good things about . download it and listen > if i'm into it, go out and buy some of their other stuff, and catch a show if i can
As to whether i have increased my consumption of CDs after starting on bittorrent, perhaps -- not sure, but i'm definitely not buying less these days.

BitLord and Torrentspy.com for me!
-
At school we have an on campus DC++ hub. There are designated people who go home every weekend with an external hard drive to bring back requests they try to get off of Bit Torrent and IRC rooms.
The school shut off my room's internet for using Bit Torrent without even telling me. Communication problem right there.
-
I got bittorrent just before reading this thread. Can anyone recomend some good music sites?
-
NO :-P heh. PM me?
I use a pig, anybody follow me? I probably could say it, but I feel like being a secret agent man.
-
You can really just google it and find all the good ones.
www.mininova.org www.torrentspy.com www.thepiratebay.org www.torrentreactor.com
NOTE THAT IS NOT TEXT BUT RATHER JUST A STRING OF RANDOM LINES ON YOUR SCREEN. CLEAN YOUR MONITOR.
-
Oooh! Dirt that moves when I scroll. Awesome!

That second to last speck of dirt looks like it should be prefaced with a "the" and probably end with a .org.
-
So you are correct. Give me a minute to fix my speck of dust.
-
I am currently not needing to use anything but DC++. Killer hubs, dear sirs, killer hubs.
-
BitTorrent is by far more reliable than DC++ will ever be.
I USE SECRET SITES THAT SUPPLY ME WITH LOUD, FAST ANGRY MUSIC (http://punkhc.dyndns.org)

THIS MAY BE THE END FOR BT (http://www.ysiforums.net)

I'm on Oink and Indietorrents. Have been for a while now. They sex me up proper. For p2p I'm a Soul Seek mang. Totally.
-
I'm on both too, but I can never find anything great on indietorrents that I can't find on Oink, so I don't use it much.
-
I think that I might waive my 'buy all your music dammit' policy for the next few weeks so I can muster up some tunes for leavers. Kai, I thank yee for sharing the tools of sharing.
-
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I JUST ALERTED YOU TO A SMUDGE ON YOUR SCREEN
....to the max.
-
I usually buy all the cds I download. I just kind of sample using torrents. While on the subject does anyone have any extra oink invites and willing to give me one? If you are send me an email my emails [email protected] thanks.
-
Outstanding, attempting to clean up one of those weird smudges in Kai's post mysteriously led to the new Explosions In The Sky appearing in My Documents.
thanks
-
I usually go with pay downloads for music, but there are some that arn't available. If i can't, i'll usually head over to isohunt or torrentspy.
Indietorrents and oink any good?
Anyone spare an invite for either?
