Just got back from this show, absolutely awesome. Whatever tiredness they were displaying when Jeph saw them seems to have gone, and they appeared to be really enjoying themselves.
The support were awful as they always seem to be at Academy 3 though, two guys with '94 grunge haircuts trying to be the White Stripes and failing badly.
The best part of the evening had to be the opening five minutes though. The bass wasn't hooked up correctly, so while they sorted it we got a burst of improvisation. Someone shouted out 'PLAY STAAR WAAAARS!', and they did. Thanks to the wonders of modern mobile phones, I managed to get a shoddy recording of the resultant masterpiece and singalong, and thought some of you might appreciate it.
Listen to it here (4MB .wav) (http://toastyghost.co.uk/junk/decemberists-opening.wav)
There was also an awesome burst of improvisation about halfway through the set. It felt like I was in some crazy Czech jazz bar.

Internationale to the Star Wars theme? Is this hispster humor or something?
-
It's awesome hipster humour.

Dear QC magic pixies,
please deliver my pintsize jamming tee tomorrow morning so I can rock out to the Decemberists at the UlU tomorrow night in awesome style.
Your pal,
Olly

Not over 18 and i didnt have fake ID.
:(

^ As did I, and Fabio. Kirkles managed to get in (because she is female, I imagine, but came back out when she realised that she couldn't actually get home without us).
:'(
-
Thats awesome on so many levels.
-
Gonna have to agree with the "awesome on all levels" bit.
The Decemberists are a fun bunch.

Now that's class. At my show in September they did the same thing except instead of Star Wars and You are my Sunshine they played "Champagne Supernova" as a sing along. It was hilarious to see how many hipsters knew the lyrics to that song. Good times.

Kirkles is clearly a practitioner of vaginamancy.
My adoration of the Decemberists grows with each passing day. If they keep doing stuff like this I may end up a (very lonely) roadie.

OH MY WOW.
Just got back from the ULU. That was hella awesome. Colin getting everyone to sit down. The mariners revenge song. MR FREAKING BLUESIDE! The chimbley sweep. That was just soo good, the perfect night.
Plus i saw a guy with long black hair in a pintsize hoodie a couple of times.

ok, I wasn't the pintsize hoodie guy, but i was there too, and gotta give it to them, that was an impressive show they put on.
Frankly, after all the badmouthing they've been getting recently, both here and elsewhere, I found myself expecting a more sombre affair. Maybe it was for the best though, cause by the end on the Mariner's Revenge Song I was completelly blown away!
Well done you Decemberists you! Well done, I say!

I saw them about a month ago in Chicago and certainly didn't notice anything less than incredibly high energy and enthusiasm for the music. If only they would have played the Star Wars theme for us too.
-
I would do pretty much anything just short of killing myself to go see the decemberists. They are awesome, and now even more so because they played star wars.
-
I would do pretty much anything to go see The Decemberists. They are awesome, they have reached the pinnacle of awesomeness.
-
I was in Michigan on a mandatory trip whilst they played a scant 40 minutes from my house (they were at the Odeon). *sob*
-
They closed intonation and they certinally didn't disappoint. They did the getting everyone to sit down bit as well. My friend who I was with and haden't heard much of them described as "a more jewish REM" I just smiled.

Saw them at ULU... They went into the theme from Indianna Jones during The Bagman's Gambit.
Admittedly at the time, I mistook it for the theme to Tintin, which would have been even cooler, but there you go.
One of the best live gigs I've ever been to see...
