Title: Sorry to do this(Indietorrents)
Post by: Chesire Cat on 14 Dec 2005, 18:36
I haven't exactly posted here in a dogs age, but Im kinda drowning in a lack of decent new music to download.  Dont exactly know QCs stance on mooching indietorrent invites, but I wouldn't mind getting one.  Can someone help a brother out?

Lol. Ditto. I've wanted one for a few months now, just haven't figured out how to get one. This would be nice.

I guess if someone has already set a precedent, I can't really help but ask as well, because I would love an invite, but I don't know anyone on it :(

you need to have a >1.0 ratio on indie torrents to have any invites. which is hard to maintain with all the new music they have. i leave all my torrents i download going almost 24/7 for weeks after downloading and still have like 0.44. plus even with that ratio you get 1 invite every month. if i ever get any invites i'll happily share.

I just got an invite. which was awsome, but there's no way I'll keep up with that ratio they've got. They don't like me there anyways, some firewall bullshit.

Seems rather snobbish. I prefer Demonoid myself, but I'm crazy.

Well I currently use mininova (http://www.mininova.org) and torrentspy (http://www.torrentspy.com) but theres alot of music neither has.  Hell, I've still never heard a Unicorns song before, and its killing me.

I'll trade a Demonoid invite for an IT invite.

EDIT: Please stop asking for invites via PM's. I never check them. Use my e-mail.

I'm assuming that you have the Demonoid Invite, correct? Otherwise I can take you up, but I get confused.

Yeah, I do. They tend to hand out invites like candy when you maintain a 2.31 ratio. PM sent.

I already have demonoid account, So hand it off to somebody else, or do whatever you wanna do with it.

But damn, 2.31? How do you keep that up? I'm struggling to keep 1.

Most of it is residual from when the live 8 videos came out. I was seeding the Pink Floyd and The Who videos for two weeks straight

ah. When I first joined, I downlaoded alot, and left it overnight, thinking what I was seeding (some albums I had put up) would upload, and they uploaded nearely nothing ,adn I downloaded a good mess of stuff; so basically, I was fucked realyl bad from the beginning. I went from the basic 1 that you start with to a .09. I've since brought it back up, but that was a scare.

Torrents of indie things, I presume.

yeah I'm on it, it's OK. I mean nothing amazing. There's still a lot of stuff I can't find, but it's true about the people running it being jerks. I can't help it that I'm a total dumbass when it comes to computers.

Still looking, demonoid or indietorrents would be better than what I use.

It's fairly easy to get on Demonoid; my friend got on the first time het went there and just registered. Is it random timing or something? EIther way, I'll see if they'll make me another invite or two.

I actually just spent a day working on it, and managed to gain entry to both Demonoid and OiNK. Demonoid was wide open as of yesterday, just sign up as you please. OiNK just took some commitment. I spent half an hour in their IRC channel for invites, and they were playing games and giving them away. It was really no big deal, just go to their site (oink.me.uk) and they give you all the info you need to join the channel and start up.

Now, if only I hadn't ruined my ratio in the first 3 minutes...

Everybody seems to ruin it on first entry to any torrent site.

I very rarely use BitTorrent anymore. Find a couple of music blogs or forums that are to your taste, and you're all set. I get more than enough new music that way to keep me satisfied. Plus, it's virtually risk-free.

I signed up for oink and about a week later they started their christmas promotion. I had a 11. share ratio for a while (750 mb downloaded like 8.5 gigs up).

I've got a few indietorrents invites if anyone wants them.  I only ask two things:

1) You know how to open the ports on your firewall (if you have one), or at least are willing to do it/learn how to do it, and

2) You are 100% responsible for your own computer and internet service, including all bills, equipment, etc.

Please PM me with requests.

Thanks.

Was going to rave about slsk but you beat me to it.
Anyhow - I love using it, exept when it goes all crashy, but that dosnt happen often.

PM me your user name, we'll share and stuff.
anybody else uses soulseek?

I've been using DC++ for the past few months and it's totally beat out BitTorrent 8-9 times over in terms of getting the more obscure stuff I want.
Title: Sorry to do this(Indietorrents)
Post by: MilkmanDan on 26 Feb 2006, 15:05
DC++ is like bittorrent in that using the software is not the important part. It's all about the trackers/hubs you use. Find a good one and both are pretty awesome.
In other news, OiNK > IndieTorrents any day.
Title: Sorry to do this(Indietorrents)
Post by: Spartan Pho3nix on 26 Feb 2006, 15:40
Torrents are much better than soulseek. Faster and easier to find stuff.

I'll give someone an IndieTorrents invite if they have an OiNK invite for me. And also, as was mentioned before you have to understand port forwarding and router settings and whatnot, and if you dont, read up on it before trying to download/upload.
