List any bands that you listen to now because of QC or jeph's RL page.
Because I looked there, I listened to three groups listed there, the album leaf, mogwai and the arcade fire. All great bands and I'd like to thank him for indierectly recommending them.
So thank you man, I'll be listening to Mogwai and Arcade fire over xmas :)
-
I checked out most of them.
I have to admit, I didn't care for a single one.
-
His RL page helped open me up to Iron & Wine.
-
Architecture in Helsinki! Two big thumbs up :)
-
This website actualy opened me to a massive amount of music as before with a few exeptions I only listened to 60's and 70's rock. The Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade, Clap your hands say yeah, the new Pornographers, these are the main bands I've started to listen to because of this website.
-
A lot. Due to my general unwillingness to look at popular music, and my lack of knowledge of music I didn't really find a lot of new artists. I think after finding these forums (and checking out a great deal of the bands on Jeph's RL page) my music collection has almost doubled (and I've found a lot of bands that I like a lot more than the stuff I used to listen to).
-
The only band I've been inspired to listen to is Mogwai. I knew of pretty much everything else. The forums have done more for me than those two sites have.
-
Flaming Lips and Mogwai. Definitely got started here.
-
The comic, RL page, and forums have opened me up to good music. Thank you.
-
Non but he reminded me of The Avalanches. I hadn't listened to that CD for ages.
-
Well, I am slightly musically retarded - or was, a year or two ago - so I'm always happy to get new music that's actually worth something. Thanks to the comic, I've discovered Modest Mouse, The Unicorns, The New Pornographers and Deerhoof. Yummeh.
Also Arcade Fire from the RL page, I believe, and I'm sure much more I can't think of right now.
-

I have to admit, I didn't care for a single one.
Except modest mouse, I like them. But they're all mainstream or something now, aren't they?
-
The Decemberists I think, though that may have been a combination of the forum and RL. Either way they are definitely one of my favourite bands now :)
-

That matter? They're still very good.
-
I confess there were several bands in the previous music recommendations which I hadn't heard of but loved. I've ended up buying a lot more music because of this comic.
-
I've never looked at that page. Sounds like there's some cool stuff on it, though.
-
Ratatat!
-
The Fiery Furnaces (more due to the comic about it though)
-
OPETH

The Fiery Furnaces (more due to the comic about it though)
Seconded. They've been my favorite band for a while now.
Also, Mogwai, but I haven't really gotten into them. Yet!
-
ok you can add ratatat to my list now, because of Cpt.Fantastic mentioning it here, cheers mate they sound amazing!
-
I have yet to actually start listening to anything due to Jeph, as much of it I was already listening to, or planning to at least. However, in the near future I plan on diving into Mogwai, Architecture in Helinski, The Fiery Furnaces, and The Hold Steady because of this site.

I'm the only person in the world who thinks that they're better now than they were before.
-
None. But the forums have done wonders for my musical diet. Think I heard of Finntroll, Behold... The Arctopus, Agalloch, Skyclad and Mr. Bungle here.
-
I wonder who you heard about Skyclad from...<_< >_>

I was alluding to the fact that some people think a band automatically sucks when it 'sells out'.
-
The Postal Service, Arcade Fire...hmmm...who else *tries to think* probably lots more...this webcomic has been like my indie education...
-
same here my music has balloon twice over since coming here.
-
I already listen to Modest Mouse, but so does everyone else.
I got hooked on McLusky thanks to Jeph, and will soon be looking into Iron & Wine and Mogwai; I like what I've heard so far.
-
I bought "The Moon & Antarctica" by Modest Mouse because of the Recommended Listening page, and that pretty much changed my whole taste in music. So really, a lot of the music I listen to now is slightly because of Jeph.
Edit: In other unrelated news, I just noticed today is the day I joined this forum, 2 years ago. Crazy.
-
^ happy anniversary...
is it bad that I checked out Bright Eyes because Jeph made fun of them in a strip...
...and then liked it?
-
I wonder who you heard about Skyclad from...<_< >_>
Come to think of it I'm pretty sure I also heard of Agalloch and Finntroll from you. Thanks a bunch dude!
-
Lets see... so far, Jeph has introduced me to:
-Iron & Wine
-Opeth
-M83
-Architecture in Helsinki
and, of course, Broken Social Scene.
I'd would have listened to more if I could actually -find- most of this stuff, haha.
Hmm... come to think of it, I've heard Ratatat and LCD soundsystem too, but don't actually own a cd.
-
The Arcade Fire
and...
Isis.
Now tell me if that isn't confliction, then what is?
-
Come to think of it I'm pretty sure I also heard of Agalloch and Finntroll from you. Thanks a bunch dude!
No problem. It seriously gratifies me beyond words to see people enjoying bands I love.
And yeah, I am a HUGE folk metal whore
-
a lot of the stuff i had been into already, but i learned about architecture in helinski and mercury rev from qc. that makes me very, very happy.
-
fun fact: i started listening to dashboard confessional and bright eyes because of QC.
and of course i have to thank jeph for mogwai, modest mouse, mclusky and others...
-
I've now started to listen to Neutral milk hotel now because of this comic, I'm liking thier stuff.
-
Aloha, American Analog Set & The Decemberists. Ta muchly much, Jeph!
Kate
-
Mogwai, The Shins and The Fiery Furnaces.
I had actually not heard of The Shins before I read his recommended listening page.
-
I got Up in Flames by Manitoba, and I like it! Thanks, Jeph.
-
What are arictechure (SP?) in helsinkie like?
-
What are arictechure (SP?) in helsinkie like?
Architecture in Helsinki. From what I've heard (and all I've heard is their latest, In Case We Die), they're upbeat, electronic-ish indie pop. Very danceable.
-
BROKEN FUCKING SOCIAL SCENE. I love this band now.
-
Ahem...
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
LCD Soundsystem
The Decemberists
The New Pornographers
Broken Social Scene
The Shins
Thanks, Jeph.
Oh, and that comic thing you do is okay too.
-
Even though I'm the thrid person in the row to list 'em: Broken Social Scene.
Also: Mogwai, M83, and The Flaming Lips and a buncha others. But no need to list 'em all.
QC was definetely a big jump off point into indie and more obscure music. Beforehand I was still rocking out to From Autumn to Ashes.
