So for all of you in Australia it's time to vote for the JJJ hottest 100. So what are you voting for?
Here are my votes.
I'll Believe in Anything - Wolf Parade
Mind's Eye - Wolfmother
Middle Of The Hill - Josh Pyke
The Car Song - Cat Empire
The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Twin Cinema - New Pornographers
Neighborhood #2 (Laika) - Arcade Fire
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) - Arcade Fire
Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) - Arcade Fire
Now I know that Funeral was released in '04 elsewhere but it was '05 in Australia so It can be voted for. I found 10 songs very restrictive but I needed to vote for all 4 of those Arcade fire songs, they all deserve it.
In retrospect I probably would replace skin of my yellow country teeth with something else but I did this very quickly.
-
You can vote for more than one song?!
Anyhoo, I might vote this year because there was so much good music. If so I'll be pitching towards the Mountain Goats, probably "This Year"
-
it'll probably look a little like this:
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth
Dears: Lost In The Plot
Doves: Black And White Town
Futureheads: Hounds Of Love
Interpol: C'Mere
Jose Gonzalez: Heartbeats
Ladytron: Destroy Everything You Touch
Presets: Down Down Down
Trail Of Dead: Worlds Apart
White Stripes: My Doorbell
not sure yet though...
-
The songs you indicated you would like to vote for in this year's Hottest 100 are:
Smile Around The Face - Four Tet
O Green World - Gorillaz
Take It Easy (Love Nothing) - Bright Eyes
Flame Trees - Sarah Blasko
Girl - Beck
We're All In This Together - Ben Lee
Heartstopper - Emiliana Torrini
Here Comes The Summer - Fiery Furnaces
I Was Only 19 - Herd
Mushaboom - Feist
-
Just thought I'd resurect this thread as the hottest 100 is on right now. I'm going to have to go with the crowd and bet a wolfmother song will win.
-
Man, I hope not. Every Wolfmother song I've ever heard has been shithouse. I'm pretty disappointed in the list so far, but it's early days so hopefully the good stuff will start emerging later in the list.
STOP PRESS - Hot Damn! Mountain Goats at #70!!
-
That Mountain goat song was preety good. You don't like Wolfmother?! *Shakes head* They are damn good.
-
Just, seems to me if I wanted to listen to '70s-style rock I could, you know, actually listen to '70s rock. What's the point of rehashing it, completely unchanged, in 2006?
However, my housemate says that they put on a great live show. My theory is that lots of people have seen them live, and then when they hear the songs on the radio they remember fondly that live experience, which makes them enjoy the song. Maybe.
For those who are interested in following the countdown, here are a couple of links:

Martha Wainwright at #59.

Question: is Butterfingers' 'Jesus I Was Evil' the same 'Jesus I Was Evil' as Darcy Clay's 'Jesus I Was Evil'?
-
LOL BERNARD FANNING LOL
-
The only one of my votes that even got into the list (as far as I could tell) was Middle Of The Hill by Josh Pyke. The rest;
Clean - Boat People
Oh My God - Kaiser Chiefs
First Day Of My Life - Bright Eyes
We Both Go Down Together - Decemberists
Soul Meets Body - Death Cab For Cutie
We Will Become Silhouettes - Postal Service
Love Puppet - Sonic Animation
casimir pulaski day - sufjan stevens
I Summon You - Spoon
seem to have been completely ignored. You suck Australia!
-
Do you wanna know how disappointed I am with the Australian people after this year's Hottest 100? Do you? There were six Wolfmother songs in the list, and not a single Arcade Fire track. Seriously, people!
Anyway, it's historical fact that 1993 (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/history/1993.htm) was the best Hottest 100 ever.
-
it'll probably look a little like this:
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth
Dears: Lost In The Plot
Doves: Black And White Town

Jose Gonzalez: Heartbeats
Ladytron: Destroy Everything You Touch
Presets: Down Down Down
Trail Of Dead: Worlds Apart
White Stripes: My Doorbell

I am going to kill you.
Our names our too similar.
-
Six wolfmother tracks? Out of eleven on their album. What the FUCK?
Eh, most of my votes made the list, I didn't win 57 odd cds, I probably wont by the compilation when it comes out, I don't care anymore.
-
I never get too distraught at some of the crap that winds up in the hottest 100. I mean, Triple J listeners voted for Love Will Tear Us Apart over and over again untill they changed the way the hottest 100 was put together.
There is nothing you can do after that to convince me that Triple J listeners as a collective, not that bright.
I'm dissapointed that the Herds cover of I was Only 19 didn't make it in the top 10, that was probably my favorite Australian track I heard on JJJ in the last year.
-
Jesus, whats with the obsession with Wolfmother?
Bernard Fanning, ugh.
I liked Powderfinger, but I hate the way the radio is aurally raping me with his solo career.
Who said that JJJ was any less pop than other stations?
-
ergh. the 100 was pretty awful. bernard fanning and wolfmother? australian music really isnt that good
-
im currently downloading every single song from the top 100 just for the hell of it .... im even getting the songs that i hate with a passion (UGH coldplay you pretentious wanky so and so's)
-

I agree with the above statement.
I was really disappointed by the 100. Only two of the songs I voted for made it in, and they were both around the 70 mark.
I think it gets worse every year...
