Okay, so I just had this idea for a 'game'. I have no idea if this has been done before, so apologies if it has.
Name a band you're particularly fond of, then the person below names a band they think you'll like and so on.
My band is Deerhoof.
-
I only saw them live, but Man Man seems to have alot of the same energy that Deerhoof has. Both Deerhoof and Man Man seem to have the whole "I'm so totally playing this song and I don't care what people think of it because I think it's awesome!" vibe coming from their music.
So, my band. Menomena (preferably stuff that is like "Under an Hour").
-
The Helio Sequence (specifically Love and Distance)
though I'm not very knowledgable about such music.
anyway, let's go with M. Ward
-
A bit off topic, but wasn't the "replacement" drummer for Modest Mouse also in The Helio Sequence?
-
M. Ward, eh? May I suggest Page France? (http://www.purevolume.com/pagefrance)
My band = Field Music.

Anyone who follows the "Listening To" thread could probably guess that I'm going to recommend Doves.
Doves are not nearly as popular as they should be - they are diverse while being catchy and unique at the same time.
-
Never heard of them, might have to check them out too
On the line of Diverse and Unique...hm who to pick
gonna have to go with the New Pornographers on that one. anything with AC Newman for that matter.
-
I'll recommend Nick Cave and the Badseeds. Less cryptic lyrics, but much more interesting (imo) and dark.
I've been going through all my Cake cds recently and loving it.
-
If you like Nick Cave, you should definately be listening to:
The Residents
Here: Olive And Grey (http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=02T7ENH1BS6IN2ZNME4UX1STNZ)
Enjoy.

I think I've seen a Nick Cave album at my local library. Will make a note to pick it up next time I'm there. Burn and return, baby. (Actually, it's more like "rip and return," but that's not quite as catchy.)
I recommend: Lali Puna. I've only heard their latest album (Faking the Books), and I've only heard it once, and I only just heard it yesterday... but I like 'em already. If you're into The Notwist and other such electronic pop groups, you'll probably like these guys.
-
If you're into Lali Puna, might I suggest Ms. John Soda? Similar stylings (Pretty much anything off of Morr, in fact).
A band I'm particularly fond of...there's really no way to do this without sounding like a pretentious ass, but usually, if I find something I like, it's pretty easy to find similar artists. But I'll throw one out just for fun. Someone recommend me something similar to Denver McCarthy.

*pindrop silence*
*crickets chirping*
*church bell tolls off in the distance*
-
The Kooks
-
I myself have actually started a game like this here. But it got like three answers and then it drowned in its own tears and seized to exist.
Exist? Excist? Ecxsist? Estixc?
-
I don't know who Denver Mc Carthy is, so we're going to Reccomend Tankard because they're awesome.
And I totally double the Residents reccomendation. If you do get an album, get Animal Lover (The one that song is from). It's darker than the rest of their stuff (And there's a shitload of it.)
-
Chiodos if you are into post hardcore or just good music in general.
-
post hardcore.......
check out the jim yoshii pile-up. not really post hardcore but at least it says they are on their myspace
me.... Kepler - attic salt
the drummer from the arcade fire used to be in this band and he was immeasurably better in it.
-
"A bit off topic, but wasn't the "replacement" drummer for Modest Mouse also in The Helio Sequence?"
Why are drummers so expendable?
Kepler... Papercranes! I just think everyone should love Papercranes. They're on myspace too.
