Title: Songs that will be played in your personal HELL
Post by: nescience on 06 Feb 2006, 01:23
So let's get this straight: you're in Hell.  Maybe you did bad things in life, maybe you didn't believe, maybe you didn't repent, or maybe you just got unlucky with which deity you chose.  What's playing on the PA while you're burning in the lakes of eternal hellfire?  What songs do the demons of Hades choose to give you the poetic punishment of setting your unending suffering to music that you absolutely despise?

I choose:
John Mayer - Your Body is a Wonderland
Jack Johnson - Flake
Metallica - King Nothing
Queen - Don't stop me Now (okay, I actually love this song, but whenever I have panic attacks or have one of my very rare bouts of insomnia, this song inevitably starts playing in my head OVER AND OVER AND OVER and when I do go to Hell, it will most likely be the song playing)

(these are the only ones I can think of at this moment... I'm sure I could make a many-disc mix out of this)

Dave Matthews Band- their entire recorded history.

And though I wouldn't call the Polyphonic Spree "satanic" imagine having to listen to "Hold Me Now" for the rest of eternity. Maybe the devil has a keen sense of irony.

The Residents - Constantinople(not a bad song per se, but extremely annoying in the long run)
Coheed & Combria - Blood Red Summer(that voice!)
Die Toten Hosen - Alles Aus Liebe(and almost all 80's rock)
Kashmir - The Curse of Being a Girl(I like them, but this is just abysmal)
Slipknot - Duality
Outlandish - Man Binder Os På Hånd og Mund/Aícha
Limp Bizkit - Wish You Were Here(maybe the worst cover ever, second to Avril of course)
Merzbow - Crack Groove
Eminem - his discography?

there is more probably...

I just threw up in my mouth a little even thinking about it.

I enjoy a good deal of those songs without reservation. I've listened to Newsom on repeat for hours at a time. I guess we aren't coming from the same place here.

I was more in tune with the first half. I'm imagining a young British gentleman in the typical version of Hell, and he's sitting nicely on a rock with sensible shoes and a tan tie, and suddenly "Your Body Is a Wonderland" starts playing on repeat. He tries flinging himself off a cliff, but that doesn't work. He tries to beat himself to death, but he can't escape it. Finally, he looks down into a pool of his own blood, and instead of his own reflection, he sees John Mayer, singing back at him.

EDIT: If you need any convincing to listen to rap music, just listen to this one line from the great Eazy-E:

"But mister dope man, dope man, can I get a hit?/No ho, but you could get my duck sick."

I should probably feel childish for loving that line as much as I do, but what can I say?

erm..no...Unless you start hating lo-fi skronk rock a lot more, like that time you read one of my posts and ended up listening to Avarus by mistake.
I thought a bit more and being eternally trapped in a grocery store with the horrible muzak and soft rock they play on the PA would be extremly horrible. Gryff also has a point, though Summer of 69 is known to feature on grocery store playlists. This would be pretty bad too (http://www.alessonislearned.com/lesson025.html).

Okay, maybe hate is too strong a word. But i still dont like Apple. I dont like there products, i dont like the way they advertise, i dont like the way that unlike a PC there is a lot less products that are compatible with macs compared to PC.

And with the firefox thing... maybe im wrong, but i wouldnt really know. It's still related to macs, i avoid them. I like to be able to right click with my laptop.

Any dub or indie. Seriously, hate that shit.
Dub is just to goddamned slow and no one seems to have noticed that it's all exactly the same...
Indie is too bland. It's exactly the same as top 40 only they're singing about pandas and boats instead of highschool and girls.
Those two for the rest of eternity would drive me to madness.
That and Christian goth.

Morrisey died the very moment the Smiths broke up.

Change that to Post-2001 Skyclad and I agree.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to hunt you down and rape you with a stick.

And I won't clean the stick first.

Top 40 Christian Rock.

death.

lol I agree.

As much as I hate to admit it, Joanna Newsome makes my list.  As much as I love her, I wouldn't be able to listen to her for over a few hours at a time.

I think the songs that would represent my personal hell would be anything by My Chemical Romance, Slayer, or any death/black metal shit. I hate death metal and black metal so much. Simple plan's discography would be in there too, and that song that goes "Don't you wish your girlfriend was wrong like me..." . And any late No Use for a Name stuff, partly because it's so awful compared to their early stuff, because their early stuff was so damn good.

Holy GOD that is a humongous avatar.

My hell would consist of nothing but the theme song from "the OC" and iron and wine's entire songlist. Perhaps some creed thrown in for good measure. I wouldnt put it past the devil, that psychotic sonofabitch, to play some Avril and Jesse McCartney as well. Fucker.

And Ironoxide887, if khar rapes you with a stick, I'm beating you with it afterward. Skyclad is awesome.

1) MacArthur Park
2) Sweet Home Alabama (I'm FROM THERE, and I hate that song)
3) Anything by any band whose name involves some form of mental issue (i.e. My Chemical Romance, Mindless Self-Indulgence, etc)
4) Wonderwall. I expect this is the song that gets PA'ed throughout the entirety of Hell, regardless of the damned's actual taste in music.

I agree with Khar. Resize your avatar or meet your demise.

And don't hate something just because they fall into a certain genre. That's just close-minded. Next you'll be hating people just because they have a different skin colour.

eh, i guess i put it up wrong, what ive meant is that i did actually listen to it, did a little research, maybe find a something that i do like about it, but meh. it all the same, people blabbing bullshit, the same tune through the whole song.

oh, i see what you mean,
just like all metal sounds exactly the same,
and like all punk, all just powerchords and people singing bullshit!
and like all country, just twangy guitars with people singing over them.

i dont know for sure, but that seems like hating rap for no real reason, other than having listened to a couple of the more popular artists who you happened not to like.

I think I can pretty much end this thread with 1 song... disney's - It's a small world. I believe that song was created by satan himself for exclusive use in hell but was leaked to the mortal relms for one reason or another. I suspect this song was meant to be put on every list mentioned above but people were too mortified by this song to type out its unholy name.

The Limp Bizkit cover of Behind Blue Eyes.  My blood pressure shoots through the roof when I hear that song.  Fuck you Fred Durst, fuck you right in the ass with a jackhammer mounted on the front of a Howitzer.
