Excited much? I know I am. I'm sure it'll be one of the best releases this year.

Oh hell yeah I'm excited, April's shaping up to be a fine month for music. New Flaming Lips, new Built to Spill, new Streets, AND Death Cab/Franz Ferdiand are making their way through my town (and I'm going for free.)
-
When is the LEAK, DAMNIT!?!?!
-
Agh yes I am ecstatic. The aforementioned Built to Spill should be awesome too (I hope). Two of my favourite bands in one month!! Maybe I will actually buy a CD within a week or two of its release date for once. I never ever do that.
-
When is the LEAK, DAMNIT!?!?!
I'm tipping early to mid March.
-
Have you guys all seen the video (http://www.flaminglips.com/content/video/index.php?sid=&contentMode=&selectedMovie=ambulance&selectedBandwidth=56)for "Mr. Ambulance Driver"? Wayne looks like a zombie in that video. It's frightening. But, based on that track alone, this should shape up to be a better album than Yoshimi, which would make it pretty damn great.
-
it's already leaked. ;)
it's pretty aewsome.
-
LEAKED! W00t. Wow. First song is crazy amazing.
So...freakin...good. Oh my god. SO good.
-
leaked like two weeks ago
where have you all been? FO REAL!
-
So does anyone know if this leaked version is the final one? I hate it when I download one of those "advances" and keep it, only to find out months later that the final version is slight different from the one I have.
-
I'm so excited about this. Upon hearing Yoshimi, i fell in love and then just worked backwards through their albums. And they're touring the UK in April too! Huzzah, i say!
-
Its shit.
Shame they can't do this right anymore, they were so great just a decade ago.
-
I don't think it's shit. Not as good as Soft Bulletin, but I don't know if they'll ever surpass that. It reminds me more of Clouds Taste Metallic, I guess... though sometimes it doesn't even really sound like The Flaming Lips.
-
I think it's great, possibly in my top five of Flaming Lips albums. It seems like their most "no nonsense" philosophical/sociopolitical work to date, and I'm very pleased with that.
-
For those who haven't heard any of The Flaming Lips, which album would be a good place to start?
-
Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots are great albums to check out. You get different aspects of their sound.
As for this album, I'm not impressed. I've only heard Mr.Ambulance Driver, but that song was pretty blah.
-
I grabbzored it, and it's nice. I'm only on the second track so far but it's relaxing. In a good way.
-
The first two tracks are the worst. Free Radicals is some Scissor Sister shit. I'm so dissapointed in Coyne n Co. And Mr Ambulance Driver? I need some Tums.
-
WTF. Teh first two tracks are the best. The rest of the album is not nearly as good. Same as Yoshimi - couple standouts, but a lot of boring filler.
-
I know the first two sounds are kinda cheesy, but at least they're a new sound for The Lips. I don't I would have enjoyed this album at all if they went with some sort of cookie-cutter Soft Bulletin redux, even if it probably would have gotten better reviews. I think the more sociopolitical lyrics are great in most tracks, too.
edit: and there's some awesome guitar!
-
Is this an actual concept album about being at war with the mystics or it is just a fancy title?
I like Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots but where were the robots? It was scarcely about the robots. Songs like Fight Test and Do You Realize?? are good, however I want a concept album that for once is not vague as hell!
Either way, I am probably going to listen to it :)
-
bleh, I can't find it yet
but I'm looking forward to listening :-)
-
Yoshimi fights robots, gets killed or something, and then we spend a bunch of songs moping about death. Are you expecting War and Peace?
-
Yeah, but...where were the robots? That was a cool idea, but it wasn't used enough, IMO.
-
Are you expecting War and Peace?
Yes! and synchronisation with Gone with the Wind please!
-
I just started listening to it and so far it's fan-fucking-tastic.
-
I think it wa a really good album. it took a day or to to really grow on me, but now I really like it. it's kinda hard to peg it into a category with previous Lips albums, but not bad by any means. so let me just try and seperate some of the songs into categories:
If you like Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt. 1, Do You Realize, and Race for The Prize (one of my favorites), and songs that are more vocal and story driven, then I suggest The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (give it some time, this one took some time to grow on me, but now I love it), and It Overtakes Me/The Stars are so big, I am so small...Do I stand a Chance? (yes, that is all one title...)
If your more into their acidy, weird stuff, like The Spark That Bled check out Pompeii am Gotterdammerung, and Free Radicals (I'm not such a fan of this song myself...the chorus GRATES ON MY MIIIND...)
if your into vocal heavy, psuedo-philosophical tunes like Fight Test, and Waitin' for a superman, then definitely go with My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion, and The Sound Of Failure / It's Dark... Is It Always This Dark??
This album is definitely more accessible for people new to the flaming lips. with titles like Mr. Ambulance Driver, you (hopefully) won't scare anyone away.
No matter what you prefer, you'll notice the new songs are definitely more funk-like, and guitar-driven (I mean, It Overtakes me almost sounds gospel-like...but in a good way, of course...). But deep down, it's definitely the same Lips.
I give this album an 7.5/10. it's definitely up there with Yoshimi and Clouds as one damn fine album.
-
I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole thing because I got borred half way through and changed the music. I dunno about this one, perhaps I'll have to give it a few trys.
-
IT IS A NEW ALBUM BY A GOOD BAND I HATE IT
Actually it's very good. I liked Soft Bulletin better, but considering Soft Bulletin is one of my favorite albums of all time, that's some pretty hefty competition. The Wizard Turns On... is a really cool Floyd-influenced track.
-
I really enjoy "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song", "Free Radicals" and "It Overtakes Me/The Stars are so Big, I am so small... Do I stand A Chance?".
They make me happy on the inside, although I like all of the songs on the album.
-
I was shocked how much I enjoyed this. Was fearing for the worst from some of the comments here. Obviously no one is absolutely flabbergasted that the Lips made another weird album, but man this just works for me. I'm lovin it.
