I don't normally post in the music thread, but I had to mention the fact that est and I went to see Deerhoof tonight, and they totally rocked out. And we saw dude wearing fighter jet shirt. Hello dude!
BUT SERIOUSLY GO SEE DEERHOOF*. The spazzy half of your brain will thank you.
(*warning, may cause breakage of bass amps if given the chance. sometimes twice)
-
But are they coming to Perth?
No.
-
I saw them a bit ago. Due to unrelated mishaps (winding up in the waaay back of the crowd, dinner arguing with stomach and being seperated from other people I was with) I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. On the other hand... Deerhoof always rocks.
-
I saw them 2 1/2 weeks ago. So good and probably my favorite band.
We had some really strange opening acts though (which isn't too surprising given thats its deerhoof). One group made us sit on the sticky beer covered floor to watch their experimental dance routine which really just consisted of twirling and arm spinning. Sigh...good times.

Deerhoof rock my world. They are playing tonight in Wellington but it's a 3hr drive and 3hr ferry ride away, and I am flat broke. :( :(
-
I also saw them last night. FANTASTIC. Their drummer is the most amusing drummer evar. I'd pick a highlight, but it was all so damn good.
Pivot were pretty awesome too.
And I also saw fighter tshirt guy.

That dance group was awesome! Deerhoof n' dancin', can ya ask fer anything more?
-
That dance group was awesome, if you were stoned!
Corrected. :-)
I don't remember his name but that french guy was pretty cool too, as were the movies.
-
Care to explain why you didn't like the dance routine? It might just be me doing too much musical theater and this was a nice break from that, but I thought they synchronized well and it had a nice little narrative woven into it.
-
Its not that I disliked it per se. It was sort of interesting but a lot of the dancing I felt wasn't so good. It sort of felt like a high school art project to me. But it certainly made the night interesting... my comment above wasn't meant to imply the danceing was bad so much as I feel the experience would have been enhanced by marijuana :-)

I thought it was neato, so just a diff'rence of opinions.
Also, I think I missed what the video's where about. They kinda flew over my head (that and I was right next to the screen and couldn't watch half of them 'cus of the neck strain).
-
They were all pretty strange and surreal and there wasn't really any kind of plot or topic or anything beyond really absurd and somewhat perverse visuals and sounds. I just checked, the movies were made by Martha Colburn (and the dancers are known as Starter Set).
When they introduced Deerhoof they called them "the greatest Deerhoof cover-band ever". I love it.
-
The show I went to had the "Leg and Pans Dance Troupe" or somesuch. Maybe there were different dancers at the shows?
-
Ohhh, yeah thats what the dance group I saw were called too, but I didn't remember what they were called so I checked the kill rock stars site which said Deehoof was travelling with a dance group called starter set. W/e

I'm putting that show in my top ten.
Pivot were really interesting in their 'who needs vocals?' approach,
but it was Deerhoof who really made something.
And Spectrum? I'll be heading there more often, it's an awesome quaint little venue.
Did anyone go to the Glebe Town Hall show? I was going to but cash levels weren't on my side. I might not have gone to the spectrum show either, luckily my girlfriend bought us tickets for my birthday. Genius gift, now all I need are laneway tickets.
Oh, and I saw fighter jet shirt guy too.
-
Pivot are bloody great.
-
But are they coming to Perth?
No.
This fact makes me very sad. (._.)
-
Poor perth :(
You guys don't get BSS either, do you?
-
Thankfully, we actually do get BSS here for the arts festival
-
I didn't see Deerhoof. However I did see Bonnie 'Prince' Billy rocking the hell out of Melbourne last Friday.
And only one week left until I see Broken Social Scene!
