Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has gone to their current tour. How was it?
What about the opening act?
-
They have two shows here in March. They're opening for Belle & Sebastian. I do not have tickets. I might mug someone, we'll see.
-
I'm checking out one of the Belle & Sebastian dates as well, and I'm pretty pumped for that.
I know that they have been touring a lot with Novillero lately and the last leg they did was with them. They're a good act on the same label as the New Pornographers, Mint Records.
-
I'm going on the 20th. Can't wait. A.C. Newman's great live so I assume the rest of the crew are as well.
-
Going tommorow. Should be good. By myself though since friends are busy or can't spare the money.
What's Novillero like? What kind of stuff is it?
-
Going next week! It is going to be the culmination of my life.
-
I'm going in March when they open for Belle.
And if anyone mugs me...
-
Where are you from?
-
I've heard Novillero is a lot of fun live, they're a local group (to me) from Winnipeg though I've never actually seen them myself. I got the impression that they were indie pop/rock stuff but I could be totally off.
-
That's a pretty accurate description for them. This may be a little tardy, but here's one of my favorite songs from them:
Novillero - Habit over Heart (http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0PLRV2NUL2FTY0MMQMMUJ8JSVJ)
Hope that entices some people.

Apparently they do a mean "Jesus Christ Superstar" cover. I can't wait.

Ah just got back from the show and I have no complaints. Novillero was great, New Pornographers sounded awsome, the drummer was quite amusing to watch. His bottle of Jameson's quickly got emptier as the night grew on and he had quite a few semi-failed stick tosses. All in all a great time.

I went last night. There were also many many failed drum stick tosses.. muahahaha. It was amazing! I was dancing the whole time. I'm pretty sure that Kathryn Calder is the most adorable person I've ever seen.
Also, Belle & Sebastian were excellent. They didn't play "Expectations" though :(
-
I went to the Montreal show last night too. Thumbs up from me as well. Kurt Dahle is amazingly amusing to watch live. Not only would he fail at the drum stick toss, but he would snarl at the drum stick afterwards. Plus, he would play his drum sticks until well after splinters started flying in the air.
It was really cool to see Calder and Newman perform "Streets of Fire" (one of Bejar's tracks) with the acoustic guitar and piano from the studio being replaced by a steady electric guitar.
In my opinion, they blew Belle & Sebastian off the stage. But that might just be representitive of my own loyalties.

Was gonna catch it in Seattle, but I couldnt get tickets, or across the border. Stupid lack of passport or proper identification.

Woops, I meant to say "the night before last". I saw them in Toronto. Sadly, I've never been to Montreal :(
However, I think "Streets of Fire" was one of my favourite parts of the show too. And I definitely agree that they rocked Belle & Sebastian off the stage.

Late report.
Thought it was a great show. In Calgary, drummer got a refill halfway thought. Novillero was good, but I missed the beginning since I was late.
Took some pics: Noisy since I was shooting ISO 400. Oh, and full size pictures. ~1mb

That show was just great, and yeah Dahle made the show totally worth it. I agree about Belle and Sebastian being outstaged, but I think for me it was due to fatigue and that asshole who kept screaming bullshit at the band.
