I've been on a spree lately. A spree of getting theme songs from shows I love.
I especially like Inspector Gadget's. y'know. "goooooo gadget gooooo"
So. What's your favorite?
-
Honestly, Farscape's theme kicks so much ass that I would definitely listen to it on its own. Also, the theme to a show called "Jeeves & Wooster" is really cool. And no discussion of TV themes would be complete without a mention of Highlander.
Then you've got your old standbys, MacGyver and Knight Rider.
-
Captain Planet. Last year I had it stuck in my head for at least 2 months.
-
Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire!
w00t!
-
X-Men the cartoon. Also, the Fox Sports theme kicks so much ass.
I haven't heard Inspector Gadget in forever... I remember loving that song though.
-
"Transformers, more than meets the eye!!!!"
other than that the 6 Feet Under theme is unusual but very good.
As a semi related note: The Houses of Parliament's theme music for commercials is (I shit you not) a very odd yet good arabic bellydance techno.
-
gotta be the theme tune for 'two pints of larger and a packet of crisps" its a bbc 3 thing
-
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name!
-
STOP THE PIGEON STOP THE PIGEON STOP THE PIGEON
-
Captain Planet. Last year I had it stuck in my head for at least 2 months.
CAPTAIN PLANET
HE'S OUR HERO
GONNA TAKE POLLUTION DOWN TO ZERO!
-
the golden girls theme tune "thank you for being a friend" is my fave
otherwise saved by the bell and quantum leap come close runners-up
-
Doogie Howser! Raging synthesizer love.
I really like Grey's Anatomy too.
-
Scooby dooby doo, where are you?
-
Doo do do doo
-snapsnap-
-
Lazlo Bane's "Superman" from Scrubs is a good song.
-
I don't know if anyone remembers the cancelled Fox show, Wonderfalls, but it had the quirkiest theme ever. I loved it. "I wonder wonder why the wonder faaaaalls..."
I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Firefly theme.
-
There really need to be more covers of all these songs.
-
The Futurama Music is good. But the cake is taken by...
SPEED RACER
Here he comes, Here comes speed racer, he's a demon on wheels!
Alpha Team do a great Remix.
-
Captain Planet's theme song is awesome
as is Sex And The City's.. do do dodo dodo do dododo, do do do do dodododo [ok you get the picture itsj ust too hard.]
but Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air takes the cake! that is gold. never get sick of singing that :p
-
I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Firefly theme.
....
My friends and I are pretty sure that the theme song is the reason why the show got cancelled. You can't really get much worse than "You can't take the sky from me." I mean, not even Manowar is that bad. Though, unto each his own, I guess.
Side note - it's Adam Baldwin's birthday today!
-
Wait, what's wrong with Manowar? Sure, they're massively cheesey, but all metal is to a degree.
-
They're too cheesy for me to take. I mean, there's cheesy to an acceptable degree, and then there's completely over the top.
Edit: I don't really have room to talk, I'm listening to Loudness right now.
-
Yeah, if Cheesy metal were food, Manowar would be the generic, powdered cheese form of cheese whiz. You know, the kind that doesn't even get it's own spray can.
-
Charles incharge!!
I Want CHARLES INCHARGE OF MEEEEEEEE!
-
Inspector Gadget's is neat, but i've never heard the english version... I also really like Doug's theme and of course, That '70s song!
Hangin' out
Down the street
The same old thing
We did last week.
Not a thing to do
But talk to you
Whoa...yeah.
Hello Wisconsin!
-
The Dr Who theme still leaves most of the Warp catalogue sounding like Raffi
-
The Dr. Who theme song is badass.
-
Captain Planet. Last year I had it stuck in my head for at least 2 months.
Damn you, now I'll have it stuck in my head. You could not into my class in grade 7 without someone bringing that show up.
Not actually a tv theme song, but everyone remembers this Arthur episode: "Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card" and "I was Jekyll, Jekyll, Hyde, Jekyll, Hyde, Hyde, Jekyll, Jekyll, Jekyll, Hyde, Jekyll, Hyde" Good times.
-
Duck Tales, yo.
DUCK TALES.
-
Havn't heard it in forever but
Talespin.
-
"I was Jekyll, Jekyll, Hyde, Jekyll, Hyde, Hyde, Jekyll, Jekyll, Jekyll, Hyde, Jekyll, Hyde"
so, so awesome.
i loved that episode,
and the song is great
-
Someone's already mentioned "I'm No Superman" from Scrubs; however -
SPEED RACER
Charles in charge!!E!
I'd just like to go on the record as saying that nothing can touch the acapella versions of both of these tunes, and of the Underdog theme song, performed in Scrubs by Ted's band.
-
The Doctor Who theme, of course! Excellent early electronic music. Oh, the wonders the BBC Radiophonic Workshop...worked.
-
Boondocks or G.I. Joe.
-
The theme song for The Gummi Bears is pure awesome!
Gummi Bears,
Bouncing here and there and everywhere.
High adventure that's beyond compare,
They are the Gummi Bears!
-
I like the Dr Who theme too, I havee a couple versions on my comp.
I really like M*A*S*H's theme Suicide is Painless by Nick Cave I believe. Now Im no Nick Cave fanboy, its honestly the only song I know is his. O at least the only MP3 I have with his name on it.
I used to enjoy the Spongebob theme, but I kinda grew out of it.
-
In another dimension, another time and space,
A parallel universe was fallin' on its face
When out of the chaos, who else could it be
But the animal adventurers from S.P.A.C.E.?
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
Mutants and aliens and toads beware!
You're looking for adventure? Well, this is it,
With Jenny, Deadeye, Blinky, and Willy DuWitt
I said Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
“And now, an update on Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars!”
In the battle of the aniverse, you don't know what's next,
You only know amphibians have made it KOMPLEX!
When you check out your scanner and the evil that it bodes,
There's only one course of action: Let's croak us some toads!
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
He goes where no ordinary rabbit would dare!
If your Righteous Indignation has suffered a hit
And your photon accelerator's broken a bit
And you're losing your mind, and you're having a fit
Get the funky fresh rabbit who can take care of it!
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
You say Bucky? I said Bucky!
Bucky O'Hare!
Let's croak us some toads!

Either that or Firefly.
-
You are now my favourite person who posts here.
Also, I can't believe no one has mention the Ninja Turtles theme song!
HEROES IN A HALF-SHELL!!
The Mr Dress-Up (Canadian thing) theme song was amazing. So catchy.
-
Duck Tales, yo.
DUCK TALES.
Wins the thread.
-
....
My friends and I are pretty sure that the theme song is the reason why the show got cancelled. You can't really get much worse than "You can't take the sky from me." I mean, not even Manowar is that bad. Though, unto each his own, I guess.
Side note - it's Adam Baldwin's birthday today!
What the fuck is wrong with "You can't take the sky from me?"
I really don't get why people bash this song. I think it's a statement that really applies well to the show and is somewhat poetic in its western simplicity.
Also: I think you really need an appreciation of the rugged individual that westerns, and Firefly, glorify.
-
Oh, I have an appreciation for all of that stuff. I love westerns. Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the greates movies ever made, I just think the song is rather silly. "You can't take the sky from me" is just horribly, horribly cheesy, and the thing I don't like about the song is that it never really gets going. It gets up a good build, and then it just stops, then repeat. It's like coitus interruptus, in my opinion.
-
I think ya'll are confusing 'favourite' with 'nostalgia-cred'. Theme songs to cartoons from our childhood aren't "good" hell most of the shows themselves would be unbearable to watch now.
Cowboy Bebop has a fun intro, the movie had a better one.
-
I don't think there is a person in the world who doesn't know all the words to the Fresh Prince theme song. Even little starving kids in Ethiopia sing it in their sleep.
-
I'm pretty partial to the theme song used for the series "Weeds" on Showtime. "Little Boxes" by Malvina Reynolds. It's cute. :D
-
Cowboy Bebop has a fun intro, the movie had a better one.
On a similar note, Samurai Champloo also has a great intro (and soundtrack to boot!)
-
Red Dwarf theme, Dr. Who theme (not just a good theme, fucking awesomely influential electronic music), Hitch-hikers guide TV theme, and of course, the original Blackadder themetune.
"The sound of hoofbeats cross the glade,
Good folk, lock up your son and daughter.
Beware the deadly flashing blade,
Unless you want to end up shorter.
Blackadder! Blackadder!
He rides a pitch-black steed!
Blackadder! Blackadder!
He's very bad indeed!
Black, his gloves of finest mole.
Black, his codpiece made of metal.
His horse is blacker than a hole,
His pot is blacker than his kettle.
Blackadder! Blackadder!
With many a cunning plan!
Blackadder! Blackadder!
You horrid little man!"
If we open this up to radio, then the hippiegasmic music to the Hobbit (The BBC Radiophonic workshop fucking slays) and of course the fucking Dead Ringers theme, which I can't remember if the TV series uses. I also remember Earthsearch having rather fine music.
I think all this shit I've mentioned is BBC in fact. Damn, what an ownage broadcaster.
-
I really like M*A*S*H's theme Suicide is Painless by Nick Cave I believe. Now Im no Nick Cave fanboy, its honestly the only song I know is his. O at least the only MP3 I have with his name on it.
I don't think that's a Nick Cave track. He may have covered the song at some point, but the song was originally used in the Altman M*A*S*H film that the TV show is based on in 1970, at which time Cave would have been in middle school.
The Wikipedia says that the song is a composition by Johnny Mandell with lyrics by Robert Altman's son Mike Altman.
-
Well at least I knew not to trust that it was Nick Cave since I downloaded on Lime Wire and people dont know how to title MP3s
-
Isn't it called "Suicide will kill you"? And no, it's not Nick Cave.
-
No, it's definitely "Suicide is Painless": although the version used in the T.V. series is an instrumental, the original version from the film has lyrics, including the title.
-
WHA! How come noone mentioned the A-team tune!??!
*falls of chair in amazement*
Oh, and thank you for reminding me that I definatively need to get "Suicide is Painless" :)
-
I second the theme from Cowboy Bebop!
Speed Racer is awesome too! It's really weird how it's sung.
-
I think THIS CD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002OYG/ref=pd_sl_ov_alx-jeb-9o-1_music_4608738_1/002-0603056-3373644?n=5174) is an essential for a lot of people on here. Cartoon classics, with a twist.

-
Speaking of Spider Man, it's essentially "Boogie Stop Shuffle," by Chalres Mingus, which makes it awesome (even though he's not credited).
-
Dr. Who theme all the way, but not the late 80s version that sounds like it was played on very cheap keyboards and probably was.
-
Definitely Cowboy Bebop's opening and ending themes.
