Brace yourself.
(That is a "no", and most people here tend to question my taste in music.)

Shit-fucking-tastical.

Avenged Sevenfold are a bit shitty indeed.

thanks, i should fit right in on a normal day. im just fucking tired today.
-
Yeah, Avenged Sevenfold sucks.
Listen to Testament.
That is all.
-
I am so much less picky than most people here it's amazing I haven't been pulled into an dark alley and had my ears gouged out yet.
I like avenged sevenfold . Their singer is kinda meh, but their lead guitarist and drummer are pretty fantastic. I think the guitarist studied jazz at MIT.
Supposedly they are moving away from screamyness... I will be watching that with some interest.
-
yeah sorry, they're terrible. I mean I'm sure you're a nice guy and all but in my opinon they suck.
-
when I first listened to them I enjoyed them for about half a song but then I realised the whole album was pretty much the same as that half song and when I went back to it I didn't enjoy it much anyway
they're not really bad enough to justify me hating them but they are a pretty good definition of average. IMO
flaming lips are cool though!

^What he said.

I think the guitarist studied jazz at MIT.
MIT, like, Massachussetts Institute of Technology?
-
Hey man, you shouldn't care if we don't like your music. I don't care that people probably hate me because I'm currently listening to Godsmack's acoustic record. If that's what floats your boat, listen to it. There's nothing me or they can do about it.

That's what I read... doesn't make a ton of sense, does it?
*runs and checks*
Ah... Musicians Institute of technology.

That's what I was worried about. I took lessons from a guy who went to BIT, and I knew more about a number of aspects of music than he did. I'm not talking about knowing types of music or bands, I'm talking about music theory. I know very little about music now, and back then I knew even less. I'm pretty damn sure that I'm a better player now, in my junior year of college, than he is having already graduated from a "music school." That's my experience with Musician's Institute, and it doesn't say much about him as a player.
-
Having never listened to Avenged Sevenfold, could someone enlighten me on who they are and why it is apparently not "proper" to listen to them?
-

oh dont worry i dont, its just annoying having music snobs bash you for enjoying an album, know what i mean? but thanks for the advice

they play kinda punk metal type shit. their old albums were mostly screaming and shit, their new album "city of evil" is a lot more melodic which is why i can appreaciate it. that and the guitarist tearst shit up.
-
I'm not a fan, but i didn't like that kind of music when all the music snobs fawned over it, and I like it even less now that I have to hear it everywhere I go. My tastes run pretty consistently towards punk and rockabilly though, so anything that heavy and angsty wouldn't appeal to me.
-
they're another one of those "we're influenced by fugazi... really. but with chugs and rawr" bands.

Sure, Social D are a great live band, although I prefer their punk material to their rock and roll stuff. But they're still good.
-
yeah i just saw em here in october i think it was, one of the best shows ive ever seen
but i was really asking if you liked mike ness' solo work "cheating at solitaire"

Ah gotcha. Yes, I do, but I prefer Social D.

same here, my favorite of theirs is white light white heat white trash, i can put that album on repeat for a week straight, not skip a song, and keep listening to it. good shit.
-
I've only heard Avenge Sevenfold songs via music videos and both videos made me quite angry. They were the metal/punk-loser equivilants of a 50 Cent. Capping your teeth with metal, wearing bandanas and having a really bad haircut doesn't make you cool. And the music didn't help.
Listen to anything you want kids, but those guys are major tool-bots.
-
i dont watch tv or listen to the radio, i honestly have no idea what these guys look like to tell you the truth. if i hear a song with a friend or in a friends car or something and i like it, ill check out the album. i cant stand the television.
-
I've never watched television, and the only music I've ever heard was live.
-
Avenged Sevenfold's guitarist does not 'tear it up'. Decent at best. And there is only room for one metal guitarist who also does jazz, and that guy is Alex Skolnick.
And also, Avenged Sevenfold is proof that emo and metal do not mix.
-
They're emo? Man, has that genre been mixed like a motherfucker.
-
Slit my wrists, take away the pain.
Slit my throat, there's no one to blame.
Lost in the fields of confusion.
Restless nights, they're not far away.
I came here for something and I'm not turning back.
A calm piece of mind but you still hold my keys.
Keeping my fate deep within your threshold.
Petty inconvenience but it means the world to me.
You have the power.
To set me free.
Caught in your grasp, how?
Just let me be.
Give me control out.
Out of these depths.
A fiery hell.
I pray for death.
I've been the wrong one time and time again.
Now I'm on my knees forgive me please.
Tore out my heart and handed to me on a silver platter.
Sew up the hole, emptiness in the place of compassion.
You made me this way.
I am the product of your creation.
Look the other way.
Now you've turned your back on me.
You've turned away from me, the future's much to far away to see.
I hope you learn the truth, not the way things were meant to be with me and you.
Yeah, they're pretty emo.
-

oh im sorry that my opinion differs from yours. i apologize.
-
Yeah, they're pretty emo.
No, they're really not. Check out the thread at the top of the forum with links to sites that explain why. I know it shouldn't bug me but I find the word handy and even use it about one of my own bands, and such blatant misuse could mean someone thinking I write lyrics like that and play music that sounds like the worst power metal ever. Urgh.
-
I'd define that as "angsty" or "trying really hard to appeal to angsty kids".
And opinion does not matter when talking about how much a guitarist "tears it up"; No, this is all scientific. See, we take their album, and we feed it into this machine, which gives a percentage. Totally 100% accurate.
-
yeah, I haven't heard them either, but I know several people who would agree their guitarist 'tears shit up' quite materfully. Not really people I would normally take the word of usually, so I'll have to check them out myself.
even if they do scream in a few songs, it doesn't mean all of them are bad. =cough=BloodBrothers=cough=
-
I heard one of their new songs. The video was retarded. It involved skulls with bat wings and strippers and a casino or something. And the solo sounded pretty..well, can we say "scale excercises?"

That video was a huge reference to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. And one of my friends played a burlesque dancer in that video. The song sucks, though.
-
Yeah? Too bad for Hunter S. Thompson then. Seriously, I love that book.
