I made the trip from Winnipeg last year and it was defenitly worth it, this year looks like it's going to be a blast as well, anyone planning on going?
-
I'm going to bump this, mainly because I'm sure some Chicago residents are contemplating attending.
-
hmm...The Starland Ballroom (sayersvile, NJ) is a great goddamned venue, I may attend just for that. but I'll wait until they have more info on the artists. who is going to be playing?
edit: never mind, I was reading the wrong post. it's not at the starland :(...but, if the setlist is nice, I'll probably go anyway.

-
announced today:
• Spoon

Huzzah!
-
I bought my tickets the day they went on sale. 2-day pass for $30. I just received an e-mail where the headlining acts are The Streets and Bloc Party, on Saturday and Sunday respectively. (And now 2-day passes are $35. Sweet, I saved five bucks.)
I went last year, loved it. Going again this year. Anyone up for boozing with me?
-
I'm from southern Illinois, but I am sooo going. No way I'm missing out on both Ted Leo and Spoon.

Are you fucking serious?!? That would be super-great if that indeed is true and hey I'll only be 19 but I'm totally up for boozing with you.
-
ahh turns out that's true for the second Intonation festival, I think I'm going to the Pitchfork Media festival though both look fairly great.
-
PS: I'm up for alcohol in any form.
-
I am so excited. Is that true about Bloc Part and The Streets?
-
Even though the writers are kinda jerks, they put on good music festivals. I want to go you lucky bastards.

I in fact have had quite a bit right now....
-
"Spread the word! The Silver Jews will make their first-ever American festival appearance this summer at the Pitchfork Music Festival. David and Cassie Berman announced the good news last night on MTV2's "Subterranean", and we couldn't be happier.
Or could we? Def Jux star Aesop Rock and chaos merchants Man Man have also been added to the festival. Fuck happy-- we're downright ecstatic."
You can't imagine how excited I am about this, honestly if I could have picked any band to play at this thing I would have picked The Silver Jews (or perhaps a Pavement reunion) This is going to be the greatest thing ever!!!
-
Wait... What the hell? Is there a difference between Intonation Fest and PF Music Fest? I'm confused...

Yeah there is, last year Intonation was put on by Pitchfork, this year Pitchfork decided to do their own thing so there is two different festivals. The Intonation one is in June, the Pitchfork one in July.
-
I am so excited. Booze and good music.
-
I bought my tickets the day they went on sale. 2-day pass for $30.
Why, that's only 83 cents per band! Amazing!

Yeah, I realized that like 5 minutes after I posted this, 'cause I got an e-mail from Intonation. So the Streets and Bloc Party are headlining Intonation, and all those other bands are playing Pitchfork. I get it now.

Truly!
Well, I now have a two-day pass to both Intonation and Pitchfork. This summer is going to be full of music goodness!

My issue is mostly that they are being huge dicks about the fact that their festival is better than all the other festivals. It feels more like an add for a competeing car company, or a mudslinging ad from a politician than a concert advert.
That said, it is Pitchfork, so what do you expect. There are some awesome bands playing, and if I wasn't doing bonnaroo this year, I'd go for sure.

Who really cares what they say about the festival? I mean I'm going because I love the music, pitchfork could advertise it in any way they wanted to it's not going to stop me from enjoying myself.

Yeah, I forgot I joined this forum...
Anyways, two of my friends and I bought tickets the day they went on sale. We're gonna be making the trek out from NJ, a 13-hour-ish drive executed in one fell swoop, but we're friggin' pumped. I practically creamed myself when I saw Man Man was playing. Nonetheless, do we have any ideas as to who else will play? Sufjan HAS to play, given the location and PF's love of all things Stevens, and I feel like CYHSY will too, but I'd really like to see some Black Mountain, some Wolf Parade, and some Fiery Furnaces. Let's see some predictions.

Yeah after listening to some Man Man, there is NO WAY I'm missing that performance. I think they would have announced Sufjan by now as big as he is right now. Still, we can always hope.

True, though I feel like they aren't announcing in any particular order. I mean, Yo La Tengo and Spoon — both relatively big acts — were announced in the second round, so I dunno.

I think that CHSY is to maybe... I don't know last year kind of thing, I mean most of the artists tend to be up and coming acts, or indie standbys you know? I wouldn't be that suprised if Sufjan played though he may be too big, though I'm predicting Black Mountain for sure and maybe Fiery Furnaces. There also needs to be some electronic stuff so I'm guesing Vitalic and they need at least 1 more hip-hop act (to balance things out) so maybe MF Doom? I would be so happy.
-
MF Doom would be sweet. You've heightened my anticipation.
-
oh both The Drones and Love is All have albums out that Pitchfork liked so I'm guessing either one or both of them.
-
The Furnaces were slated to play Intonation last year, but for some unknown reason they dropped out. I remember seeing them listed on the website once they announced the bands.
-
• Devendra Banhart Band
• Destroyer
• Band of Horses
Just announced.
-
Wooo Destroyer... I'm even more psyched now.
-
The Futureheads
Art Brut
Chin Up Chin Up
Announced.

does anyone here besides me think that pitchfork does bad reviews? like, they've had some that i kind of agree with, but
this:
http://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/m/mars-volta/frances-the-mute.shtml
compared to this:
http://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/f/fifty-cent/massacre.shtml
annoys the hell out of me.
not to mention that the reviews are just "blah blah blah, let's name drop as much as we possibly can, and bullshit our way through the rest of it!"
you can read the last paragraph of most pitchfork reviews and get a good idea of what they think about the album.
on the subject of the festival though, i'm in new york, so i guess i'm glad i don't see any names that i really like.
