Title: 06/06/06 playlist.
Post by: E. Spaceman on 05 Jun 2006, 11:11
At school, the student council has asigned me the task of compiling as many songs for the sixth of june as possible, the criteria being that it must contain the words "Devil", "Hell", "Satan" "Demon" or any other suitable word onn the title (the content itself is negligible), AND it must not be metal (their idea, not mine).

So, anyone have any ideas for good songs which match that criteria ?

Out of the top of my head I've got:

Mogwai Fear Satan - Mogwai
Satan Gave Me a Taco - Beck
Devil's Haircut - Beck
Handsome Devil - The Smiths
Run Devil Run - Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins
Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd
Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones
Devil House - Shonen Knife
My White Devil - Echo and The Bunnymen
Angels and Devils - Echo and the Bunnymen
Devil's Waitin' - BRMC
Higher Hell - Echo and the Bunnymen
Hell is Chrome - Wilco
IAO Chant From the Cosmic Inferno - Acid Mothers Temple & The Cosmic Inferno
The Devil Went Down to Georgia - Primus (maybe)
The Frames - Dance The Devil Back Into His Hole

If you do not put Screamin' Jay Hawkins "Little Demon", it will be a sad day for all of music kind. The Amazing Crowns and Chuck and the Hula versions aren't bad, but you cannot beat Screamin' Jay Hawkins no matter what.

Also, despite this crappy no metal rule, I would venture that trying to do any playlist for 6/6/06 that did not include 'Number of the Beast' by Iron Maiden would be absurd.

Yeah, I got rather shafted by the no metal rule, about half of my original ideas were metal. I got the to accept Iron Maiden though, it was just silly to ban "Number of The Beast"

Not my idea, the criteria is only that they have "Hell" or "Devil" or some other suitable shit in the title, the content itself is negligible (as I said in the first post). This was the student council's idea (of which I'm not a part of), they are going to play the mixtapes all day, however they are your standard frat boy types (hence no metal), so unless I do it, it's just going to be stupid club type songs.

EDIT: I think instead of the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil" you should try a cover of it. There are many here (http://myoldkyhome.blogspot.com/2006/06/sympathy-for-devil.html).

EDIT EDIT: And Roky Erickson's "I Think Up Demons (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=94E0F0F42B2A2171)" which I just Yousendit'd. Yousentit? Whatever.

I'm looking at a lot of Roky Erickson (mad props to Johnny C) and Robert Johnson (who was reputed to have actually sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for his guitar virtuosity) today.

The lyrics of these two obviously tortured souls are far more expressive of hell than ... just about anything.

Oh man, I think a few that totally should be mentioned (even it 6/6/06 is almost over):

Rainbow - Drinkin' with the Devil
Suicidal Tendencies - I Shot the Devil
The Just Measures - See YOu in Hell, Darling
Pop Will Eat Itself - Sixteen Different Flavours of Hell
Eels - Your Lucky Day in Hell
Dead Kennedys - Hellnation
King Crimson - The Devil's Triangle

I'm too lazy to see if any of these have already been mentioned, but I don't think so.

I'm pretty hella-late, but anything by Black Ebony.
Black Ebony is a really mediocre local band, but two of the four band members look like they have at least one orc parent.
