Any artists/creators out there fancy doing a jam strip?
Someone creates the first panel, then we take in turns adding a panel.
These things quickly descend into madness and surreal worlds of nonsense ... and are probably all the better for it!
Anyone interested?
-
I'd be in I think.
-
Thats great, thanks Logosmonkey.
PS I visited your comic ... and I have to agree with your premise ... cottonbuds in the ear canal is better than either the physical act of love or jaffacakes!!
-
Things like this are always loads of fun. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at comicesque/cartoon style drawing - and I'm not good at drawing without a reference of some sort, anyway.
That doesn't matter, however. This idea reminded me of something that I did at another forum I used to go to, before the webcomic that community was based on stopped it's run. They called it an art battle - you and one other person would each pick a character, and take turns drawing comics of your two characters duking it out. For instance, person A would draw a strip showing their charcter launching a fireball at Person B. Person B would show the aftermath of that, and their character's response. After a certain number of strips, the judge would decide who had done the most creative/unique/innovative drawings or had the most creative/unique/innovative ideas, and that person would get to draw the last strip, where their character won the fight.
-
That sounds like an interesting idea as well. No reason why we can't try both if people fancy it.
Any chance that the forum that art battle was posted on is still accessible?
-
Jam strip ftw ! My own drawing skills (i prefer to write) are quite sucky but can give it a shot
-
several of these have been done on the webcomic list forums (http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=7ff779ef3ff3afe35b8448f944c7cd0e), they were fun, kinda really kooky sometimes, but fun. i might be down for one here.
-
Sounds fun to me. I'd join in on it if we did one here.
-
The one I joined in with before was on MSN Groups (... and sadly the group has long since been deleted) had a mix of writers and artists. The writers added their "panels" by creating a jpeg square and simply filling it with a written paragraph. One inventive soul cropped faces/headshots out of other artists pictures in the story and added speech bubbles for his contribution. It worked quite well.
Hosting. Anyone got an idea where this would be best hosted? We obviously need somewhere that all the contributors can post into with their files. And finally a running order? Who wants to kick us off ... and what order to we follow after that? (alphabetically by screenname?)
-
The forum is still there... http://www.altermeta.com, but wether or not the thread still exists is another question.
-
i'm in. :) cool idea. could we create a photobucket account w/ a common password, upload them there, and link them to the thread? that would be easiest, i'm thinking.
-
I'm willin' to put in my two cents.
-
yeah the photobucket will probably due.. if not I'll check on making an upload account on thedevilandted when I get home tonight, I've got unlimited bandwidth and storage anyway.
-
Excellent suggestion, tetrahedron ... our account is comicjammers ... and the password is comicjam ...
Who wants to go first?
So far on the "I'm willing" list are:-
logosmonkey
Strangebear
KibBen
Alegis
Justin
MajinTrunkz
tetrahedron
Trunetural
Action Franky
Keith Decent
Anyone got any objections about this being the running order?
-
No, but I've never used photobucket before. Anything I need to know?
(ALSO I WILL FORGET SOMEONE PLEASE PM ME WHEN IT IS MY TURN)
-
Visit the following link:
http://photobucket.com/login.php?link=topmenu
Our login name is comicjammers (all lower case) and the password is comicjam (again all lower case)
Straight away there is an upload image option with a browse button that lets you pick a file from your hard drive. Upload your image and it appears in the album. The album shows the pictures with a number of options. One is a handy URL window. You can copy this URL and paste it as a link directly into the windows of the forum reply form. It show then appear as a link in the forum. (fingers crossed!)

Here is a sample image I've just uploaded ...

-
Thanks, I get it now.
-
Hmm so I'm first... ok, I'll think something up and have it posted tomorrow.
-
Well I had some time before the I head out for the evening so I figured I'd go ahead and post. Here it is!

Also I'm happy to provide the psd for anyone who needs it for cutting characters or something. Just pm me.
-
Thanks Logosmonkey! Cracking first panel.
I'm next then KibBen ...
-
oops!
-
This is a better size .. sorry about that!

-
mind if toss my hat in the ring?
i don't have my own webcomic yet (still working). but, i would love to take part in this.
-
Wow this is really random : O
-
Action I'm pretty sure it's a more the merrier type o' deal. There is a running order though.
-
put me in at the bottom there. I'm SO down for a comic jam!
-
Action Franky and Keith Decent ... I've added you to the list post. Our running order looks like this:
logosmonkey
Strangebear
KibBen
Alegis
Justin
MajinTrunkz
tetrahedron
Trunetural
Action Franky
Keith Decent
So the ball (or rather the Romance Randomizer) is now in KibBen's court!
-
sweet thanks for the add.
can't wait till it's my trun to do a panel.
-
Right. This should be done by monday. All going well. I'm working today, and I've got plans for the evening tommorow, but Sunday is free thus far, and so is most of tommorow.
-
how's this jam workin'? does one person write the script for the next person? is there a theme? forgive me if i missed this somewhere.
-
nope, freeform from the previous strip. It has stalled though, I Kib has gotten busy.. maybe we should institute a 4 day rule or something to keep it running? Or just go completely apeshite and post whenever you want....
-
stick my name in there at the bottom.
-
<--- is still waiting for his turn.
-
Logosmon is right. We need a deadline to get this thing from stalling! 4 Days is just about right I suspect. Its only a panel (I know I drew three, but the basic requirement is you advance the story by at least "one panel")
here is our new running order:-
logosmonkey
Strangebear
KibBen
Alegis
Justin
MajinTrunkz
tetrahedron
Trunetural
Action Franky
Keith Decent
mookers
KidBen, any luck with the panel? Alegis, I would be tempted to push on and continue the story (or do what you want with it in a surreal/non-continuing sort of way!) if nothing appears by monday! It will be years before we publish on demand with lulu at this rate!
-
Mookers ... your avatar picture makes me want to say
"Black Elk ... Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"
-
strangebear i love you now in more ways than you would care to know about.
-
what happened to this.
-
Oh well. Didn't feel like drawing so PAINT POWAAAAAH
(http://users.skynet.be/alegis/inflames.PNG)
Either throw it away and skip yet another in the list, redraw it or ... BURN IT! WITH FIRE!
-
(http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/comicjammers/QCcomicjam.jpg)
-
dang, guess i killed it, literally
-
lol, way to go! Hmm I'll pm Majin.
-
dang, guess i killed it, literally
And I thought I did. Well, ok if we put blame on you
-
No worries ... if the strip stalls for more than 4 days then the next person on the list takes it. If the next person on the list doesn't post it keeps clicking along until we get a contributor who does.
I've resisted commenting so far, but I love the way the story is going ... even though my Robot Love Machine has bitten the dust!
-
Sorry for the wait, guys. My contribution shall be up tonight.
Edit: Here it is.

-
Hey all. I'm pretty new to this forum but I wouln't mind partaking if there's room...
-
Since Tetrahedron hasn't posted it in the four days, that makes it my turn right?
Should be up sometime tomorrow.
-
it's been five days but since True posted saying he was working on it I'll give him more time before takeing my turn.
still waiting...
-
Action ... I say go for it! Any alternate panels that appear can be assumed to be from an alternate "WHAT IF" universe!
-
heh heh heh what if machine.
-
yeah i've been ultra hella' nice about waiting for him.
it's my turn now....
i'll have something up by the end of the night.
-
this comic was at a standstill so long i decided to give it a real shot in the arm with a multipanel action sequence.

I, too, would very much like the change to throw in my overly large hat. The tassles, and the whirly whoozits, on the brim remind me of an overweight aunt and would like to be rid of it. Goodbye hat, hello sequential comedy.

-
well don't take my word for it.. but i think you can pretty much just post a comic whenever you want without waiting to be queued up. seems like a lot of people have forgotten their commitments, i just hope they use contraceptives, for their sakes.
-
just go for it this thread is uber dead.
-
Yeah, to hell with a queue... lets just free for all. If it doesn't make sense; well too bad.
-
Yeah, I'm completely in agreement with Justin, Action and Logos ... the queue seemed like a good idea at the time, but its proved a large headache.
Just post and be damned. We can always construct something out of the chaos that might happen afterwards.
