Chattering about on gabbly, I thought maybe it would be nice to do a craft exchange similar to the way the mix tape exchange is organized. It could be for boys and girls, with all types of crafters included in the fun - gimp, hemp, sewing, knitting, crochet, etc. I think it would be nice since we have so many crafty people on this board!
We could also possibly include art in the trade, preferably of a non-digital medium, but that would be up to you guys.
The one thing is that crafts can take a long time for people to complete, so that would have to be figured into it. But I want to know who is interested!
EDIT: I think there are a lot of people who may want to get into this who don't craft, so we can be lenient. For instance, maybe you could write a song or something. They taught me in kindergarten not to exclude people. c:

Mis, it doesn't have to be QC related. The "QC" in the name is more referring to the community as a whole. And although the idea of an exchange that is purely for art is cool, this is... for crafts, mostly. Ehh.
But I'm glad it sounds good to you guys! I will work out little details when I'm sure that we have enough people.

Knitting takes a lot of time and yarns at my local yarn store are totally expensive :(, so I only give out knitted gifts to myself (hah!) or close friends.
But if an EXCHANGE is involved than there is no better person to appreciate it than I and other knitters :) (we know how much work goes into each item).
I think it's a great idea!

i like this idea, but i can't really make cool things! i can write poems though! i've only written one for hairy joe bob so far though, so he is my only reference. (on this forum i mean.)

Tokuma, do you have any interesting ideas for electronics? Most of my projects have been work related, i don't think anyone would find a ramp generator for hydraulic proportional valve interesting :/

OKAY I'VE BEEN SORTING THIS OUT IN MY HEAD:
Here are my basic guidelines, which won't be cemented without some input. Then we can figure out who is definitely in, and we'll work on dates.
1. You can request a partner, but if you don't then I will put you with someone randomly or based on what you can make and what they want.
2. There will be a timeline that looks something like this:
Day whatever: Deadline for signing up.
Day something: Partners are given.
Day something-else: Crafts should be finished (except in certain cases).
Day another-thing: Crafts should be sent. I like KibBen's idea, we should aim for right before the holiday season if possible.
Just so it moves along and all.
3. Just remember to use discretion. As in, don't send someone a plaster cast of a penis or whatever.
That's all I can think of.Anything that needs to be added?

I don't get the people who are saying they wouldn't get anything they'd like, so they won't pair with a person unless they'll give them something cool. That's not the point of it, I think. I was under the assumption that this would be a randomly picked thing, a chance for people to share their best efforts and have them appreciated as such.

can someone make me mittens? i don't know if that is something that is easy to make, but i can never find me some good winter mittens.
i could make some kind of drawing or cut-paper design or something, i would put a lot of work into so it wouldn't be an unfair exchange.

Those are the final rules since nobody actually said anything else. KibBen, I realize that the whole point is to share things that we've made, but if somebody is only gonna make peenk earrings, I'm going to avoid pairing them with someone who hates pink and doesn't have pierced ears.

October 15th: Crafts should be sent.
I hope that looks okay to you guys since I'm going away to Alaska this week. So official sign-ups start now; post what types of things you will make or if you'd rather have it be a surprise.

I am not sure that choosing your own partners is the ideal way for this to work? I thought that exchanges are normally "pull the other person from a hat" deals. I mean, if you guys want to do something together instead / as well as the exchange then that's all well and good, but normally these things are random to avoid problems.

I usually make jewelry (http://tiddleywink.etsy.com) but for some reason I just made a bunch of clothespin dolls. With afros. And fringe skirts. I call them my Girl Groups. Or I'm working a on a new line of neat-o little necklaces using vintage kimono patterns.
