Title: Cormac McCarthy
Post by: Zappanale on 14 Dec 2006, 04:05
Any Cormac McCarthy readers out there?

I just finished his book Blood Meridian.  It's really convoluted writing--he used absolutely no quotation marks, for whatever reason--but in terms of imagery and depth it's as good as it gets.

Very violent, though.  Not for the squeamish.

I read The Road.

In terms of mood, the thing is really depressing.

McCarthy conveys atmosphere and setting so well it's scary sometimes. his descriptions and imagery is always terrific. all the pretty horses is a book i liked the first 1/2 of. the second half...not so much. blood meridian (the new york time's runner up for best book of the past 25 years) is pretty terrific and very horrific. and the road is intense and has some extremely disturbing moments. i've read nothing else by him, but what i've read has convinced me he's a fantastic writer.

I read Blood Meridian for my Evil class a year ago.

Good book. I much prefer it over Heart of Darkness.
