This is so damn hard question. There just isn't... wait.. there is.
Ensiferum - Token of Time
http://youtube.com/watch?v=rGFwWlDNckk <--- Don't mind the video, it's just some lame warcraft 3 cutscenes. Just the music.
-
Minutemen - History Lesson Part II
I nearly burst into tears when I saw the acoustic version on the We Jam Econo DVD. I find it hard to articulate just why I love this song so much, it's just so sweet and beautiful.
-
That question is impossible to answer. =(
-
Mine MIGHT be Where Is My Mind? by the Pixies.
-
And Your Bird Can Sing - the Beatles
I rarely listen to it now, but it was my favourite as a wee one and it still makes me feel good like no other tune can.
-
"Knock Me Out" - performed by Linda Perry featuring Grace Slick
It slays me.
-
There is a list of songs between which I oscillate.
New Order - Temptation
Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
The Undertones - Teenage Kicks
Annie - No Easy Love
The Replacements - I Will Dare
Wilco - A Shot In The Arm
Talking Heads - The Great Curve
-
The Chameleons - Swamp Thing
It's just got an atmosphere to it that just sends shivers up my spine, from the intro right through to the end.
-
I dont know how many times I can yell "LADY MADONNA" on the internet in my underpants in this forum before the police turn up and take me away.
-
The current precedent is 12.
-
Well, there's only one way to find out, isn't there?
-
Currently, it's Aghora - Moksha. It makes me feel like I can fly.
-
The Velocity of Saul at the Time of His Conversion by Okkervil River. Once, I got dumped and listened to it 72 times in a row. To be honest though, it was mostly on in the background as I cried.
-
This sort of thing tends to change a lot for me. I guess it might be "Mica" by Mission of Burma right now.
-
The Velocity of Saul at the Time of His Conversion by Okkervil River. Once, I got dumped and listened to it 72 times in a row. To be honest though, it was mostly on in the background as I cried.
One of my favorites too, Brittany. On a par with Westfall and Black Sheep Boy, and if I were to pick an Okkervil River break-up song, it would definitely be something off of "Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See".
I think anyone who loves music would find it difficult to narrow down a favorite -- most music junkies I know have different favorites for different moods, moments, what have you.
Among mine in the rock/pop idiom:
Joanna Newsom -- Only Skin
Yo La Tengo -- Black Flowers
Okkervil River -- Westfall (the live version off the Overboard & Down EP)
Dresden Dolls -- Mandy Goes to Med School
Metric -- Raw Sugar
mclusky -- Forget About Him I'm Mint
Sufjan Stevens -- Chicago
Laura Veirs -- The Cloud Room
RJD2 -- The Horror
DJ Shadow -- Organ Donor (Extended Overhaul)
The Avalanches -- Frontier Psychiatrist
Spoon -- Jonothan Fisk
Built to Spill -- Twin Falls
The Decemberists -- The Legionnaire's Lament
The Unicorns -- Tuff Ghost
Elliot Smith -- Baby Britain
. . . .
etc.

Oh god, this question is impossible for me to answer honestly. So i'll go by my play count thinger on WMP.
And the winner is: "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's. I honestly don't give a shit if they're mainstream as all hell, this song is freaking gorgeous. It also holds a lot of sentimental value.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbJtYqBYCV8 <-Please?
-
SIlver by Jesu. The ending blows my mind every time.
-
The Dismemberment Plan - Back & Forth
followed closely by..
The Dismemberment Plan - Sentimental Man
-
"Deaf compositions no.002" by Merzbow.
-
It's a pretty obvious choice, but I really can't go past 'Like A Rolling Stone'.
-
I'm going to stick with what has been for some time - 'The Universal' by Blur.
-
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
(Hey, shut up!)
-
Thanks for that explanation, Tommy. I knew pretty much none of that about the song. I really like the rhythm of the verse, though. It's simple and creative.
-
There are songs that are better from a technical and musical standpoint; there are songs with better lyrics, better hooks, better vocals. But "22,000 Days" by the Moody Blues still reigns supreme in my book, because of purely sentimental reasons that I'd rather not post here. Suffice to say, it got me through the stupid hormonal crap you face in high school that seems big, but really amounts to pure stupidity when you look back at it later.
-
It was playing while you lost your virginity wasn't it? It's ok, you can tell us. This is like music therapy.
-
you sound like louis burdett = the whitlams
-
Riki Tiki Taki by Donovan
Dear Prudence by The Beatles
Ramble On by Led Zeppelin
Can't decide.
Just missing the cut-
Hot for Teacher-Van Halen
Highway to Hell-AC/DC
Ramblin Man-Allman Brothers
Jammin-Bob Marley
Fell in Love with a Girl-White Stripes
-
Hmm I've got a few absolute favorite songs
'The Cross' by Samael
'Erblicket die T?chter des Firmaments' by Burzum
'Soelen Gaaer Bag Aase Ned' by Ulver
-
you've been... THUNDERSTRUCK!!!
thats by AC/DC, to those unfortunate enough to be cursed with bad musical knowledge (and taste). :-)
-
Wow, I don't know if I can count all the fallacies in that post.
-
Oh yeah, my second favourite song of all time is I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab.
strange, huh?
-
you've been... THUNDERSTRUCK!!!
That's the Constantines' current encore song.
Just one more reason for you to go.
-
you've been... THUNDERSTRUCK!!!
thats by AC/DC, to those unfortunate enough to be cursed with bad musical knowledge (and taste). :-)
I...HATE AC/DC. I grew up listening to their music as well as every other band EVER from the freaking sixties up until the 90s. I learned to tolerate most of it. But then my little brother and his friends decided that AC/DC and every other crappy, popular band from the 80s are awesome and listen to them incessantly. Something else unfortunate, i got my brother into some of the bands i like, and he listens to them so much, THEY start to get on my nerves now. I HATE IT. GRRR!!!
DAMN YOU ANGUS YOUNG AND YOUR SILLY SCHOOLBOY OUTFIT!!!
-
Kill me.
-
For sentimental reasons, "Logan to the Government Center" by Brand New and "Just a Day" by Feeder are both close to my heart. "Halcyon and On and On" by Orbital is probably my current favorite, though.
-
Based on the 'of all time' bit, I feel kind of obliged to pick an Anathema song 'cos they were one of the first bands I got into and have probably had the most personal effect/meaning for me of all the shit I've listned though. Either 'Deep', 'Don't Look Too Far', 'Release' or 'Underworld'
Electronic division: Mind.In.A.Box - Change, Apoptygma Berzerk - Unicorn (Fairlight Children Rmx), VNV Nation - 'Epicentre' or 'Joy', Code 64 - Without You and Rotersand - 'Dare To Live' or 'Undone' have all been stalwart favourites over the years that I know I could never get tired of.
"Halcyon and On and On" by Orbital is probably my current favorite, though.
Kick ass! Nice pick. I probably wouldn't call this my favourite song overall but I always have to listen to it whenever I've been munching any mind-bending substances, 'cos being high on anything makes the track a quasi-religious experience. Many warm, fuzzy memories associated with this bad boy.
-
Bjork - Unison
Sums up Vespertine really well, which might just be one of the most personal albums of all time. Plus, I'm a sucker for sweeping melodies, strong voices, good build-ups, and delicately-arranged electronic music.
-
Unison is definately my favourite Bjork song. An excellent closer to an excellent album.
-
'Underworld'
Yes that is a fucking good song, my favorite by Anathema.
"I've got to burn this weight out of my mind
Running through my veins until I disappear"
-
"Halcyon and On and On" by Orbital is probably my current favorite, though.
I'd have to concur on that one, although "Hypocrite" by Lush, "Beauty*2" by Ladytron and New Order's "Blue Monday" are up there as well.
-
heres some of my TOP songs, not in order though...just alphabetically by band.
1.Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying- Belle & Sebastian
2.Minor Place- Bonnie "Prince" Billy
3.Human Totem- Chad Vangaalen
4.Condor Avenue- Elliott Smith (it may be Trouble (cover))
5.Crosses- Jose' Gonzalez
7.Float O....ya right....Trailer Trash- Modest Mouse
8.Two Headed Boy Part 2- Neutral Milk Hotel (or maybe Oh Comely)
9.These are the Fables- the New Pornographers
10.Wraith Pinned to the Mist and other Stories- Of Montreal
11.Salesman at the day of the parade- Rogue Wave
12.Casmir Pulaski Day- Sufjan Stevens
I would like to do a ton more added to Elliott Smith and Modest Mouse especially
-
what i consider great personal favorite songs are songs that you end up humming and singing to yourself while you cook or run around in the dirt.
for me, i gotta say its "naive melody (this must be the place)" by the Talking Heads
and recently, when Arcade Fire and David Byrne performed it live (found that mp3 that was floating around), i nearly had a happy little heart attack. it was the most beautiful thing i had ever heard... even as a crappy recording.
-
current fav is humanoid-chevelle
all time fav is schizophrenic conversations- staind
yeah i konw thier both major lable, but im just getting into the indie scene, thanks to QC
-
Yes that is a fucking good song, my favorite by Anathema.
The quiet whispered totally psychotic bit, leading into the second chorus, sends shivers down my spine every time
Climbing up the wall / Going to creep between the cracks
Get out of my skull / Tie the rope around my neck
Destroy all emotion / Going to rip my face to shreds
Cut my eyeballs open
Then straight back into the bit you quoted. Apart from maybe 'Panic', there's no other song on A Fine Day that completely captures the utterly insane intensity of the record like 'Underworld' does.
-
The Fool And Me - Robin Trower
The worlds greatest song is done by the worlds greatest guitarist, i expect no less
-
I could never decide on one.
"Yankee Bayonet" by The Decemberists.
"Heartbeats" by The Knife.
"Kimberlina" by Obadiah Parker.
"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd.
"Remember The Tinman" Tracy Chapman.
"In The Backseat" The Arcade Fire.
Actually maybe my favorite is "Passing Afternoon" by Iron and Wine..
-
BABA. O. RILEY.
-
That must be "Life on Mars" by David Bowie - probably the one song I never will skip nor switch off when it's playing.
-
These are my top three:
"Cock E.S.P" by Hanatarash
"Nuclear War - Version 2" by Yo La Tengo
"Petrified Forest" by Captain Beefheart
-
To reiterate and to add on:
"Hey There Delilah" by The Plain White T's
"A Barrel Tapped At Both Ends" by The Morning Of
"When We Meet Aliens..." by The Juinior Varsity
"The Luckiest" by Ben Folds
"Coffee" by Copeland
"Such Great Heights" by Iron & Wine
"Carolyn" by Zox
"First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes.
"Konstantine" by Something Corporate
I think i'm going to stop right there, because there's far too many to list here.
-
Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
This Year - The Mountain Goats
Money City Maniacs - Sloan
Jump Into the Fire - Harry Nilsson
-
for me, its either "Baba O'Riley" by The Who or "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath
-
for me, its either "Baba O'Riley" by The Who or "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath
well played, well played...
-
Sleep - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
-
Gosh that's a really really tough question and I probably have no idea. If I had to pick though in a gun-to-my-head sort of situation, I'd have to say "Untitled 8" from Sigur Ros' ( ) album.
-
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls
-
I think it's Pat Metheny's As it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzVa_X9zKcc&mode=related&search=
Always brings a tear to my eye. Such a beautiful tune, and it remainds me of one of the turning points in my life.
-
either
This Year - The Mountain Goats
or
No Thugs in Our House - XTC
-
for me, its either "Baba O'Riley" by The Who or "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath
well played, well played...
Picking Iron Man is cheating. It's like playing "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" against Jesus Christ.
-
I've been thinking about it a lot, and it has to be Teen Age Riot.
-
I think mine might actually be Positive Tension by Bloc Party.
because i enjoy dancing my arse off whilst simultaneously thinking about how much of a waste of space i am ("why'd you have to get so fucking useless?")
-
but "Iron Man" is one of my favs, and thats not cheating.
-
I'm currently in love with "Your Hand In Mine" by Explosions in the Sky and Snow Patrol's new song for the Spiderman 3 soundtrack.
-
I'd say something like "Paranoid" would be more cheating.
-
'Can't Help Falling In Love'
Not Elvis' version specifically, just any version. I love the song itself, regardless of who's doing it.
-
Well my favorite song is [ list of much more than one song that I really only like, but name dropping them will get my "indie cred" up. Hell, I probably won't even remember who this "Steven Milkman" guy is in 10 years.]
But all sarcasm aside, if I had to pick a song that I've always liked and will continue to like, not just some fleeting stuck-in-headedness...either Here Comes Your Man-Pixies because it's a really, really good song or Fuck and Run-Liz Phair because it always makes me sad.
-
I'm pretty sure I've got it now. Since I've only heard the song once and then never managed to track it down and I've forgotten the artist (though I'm not sure that would help) and maybe the title of the track I'm gonna say that it was the track I remember, not nescessarily the track that was played.
Year before last I think, they had a segment on TripleJ called something about a mixtape they got Craig Schuftan (one of the presenters) on in the afternoon to choose a track. Something usually old and obscure, always something I'd never heard of at the time (but now I recognise the Beefheart and the Zappa and the Wendy Carlos and probably some of the others) and that pushed what the average person listening on the drive home from work was going to tolerate. I think that's part of why the segment isn't there anymore.
One average afternoon I was listening to the radio and the segment comes on so I start to pay attention. I forget everything he said about the track because as I remember it once the the track starts, everything that was before it stops existing. Everything that might happen afterwards doesn't matter. The only thing you notice is the sense of urgency that makes you stop whatever you're doing and open your eyes and ears as wide as you can, and then strain to be even more alert. All of this is over in maybe a minute, minute and a half. Then you stand in silence listening to your heartrate go back down.
I have to track that down.
-
Picking Iron Man is cheating. It's like playing "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" against Jesus Christ.
Is it really that great a song? It's certainly don't love it, but i don't hate it. Unless someone's playing Guitar Hero and it's the only song they'll play.
-
a lot of words
The 1979 7" was reissued on the 21st of April this year. The same day I made that post. The song (you can find an mp3 of it by digging around from here (http://poutreapparente.free.fr/PULP_MUSIC/Pulp_Music_info.htm)) sounds nothing like how I remember it other than being very DIY. Despite the sound being different, the urgency and the energy is exactly as it played in my head.
Also, credit where credit's due: It turns out the segment that I heard it on was a bit where they got Calvin Johnson on the radio to play 7 songs that he loved instantly upon hearing them. Another track that I remember being incredible was by a group called the Beakers, but I haven't tracked it down.
-
"Who Wants to Live Forever?"
Not the version from the film, or even the video or live appearances; this is a song where you really have to hear the album track.
-
Ah, a pick your favorites thread, my actual favorite way of introducing myself..and like many others I really can't pick a solid favorite, theres just way to much good music out there
Now I know a few are going to get me strange looks, but what the hell;
Alice In Chains- Rooster
Slipknot(oh yes, I said slipknot)- Duality or Spit It Out
Blue Oyster Cult- Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll
Skindred- Beginning of Sorrows
12 Stones- Broken
I might be able to narrow down further, but it will be really hard and I will have to sit there indecisive for a few hours, which would really cut into the sleep time
P.S.-McTaggart, So nice to see another morrowind fan out there on the net, all hail Redoran
-
REDORAN SUCKS! LONG LIVE HOUSE HLAALU!
:]
-
Les Savy Fav - Reprobates Resume
Panthers - Thank me with your hands (mstrkrft remix)
Metric - Monster Hospital
Northstar - My Ricochet
Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks
Bloc Party - Two More Years
Death From Above 1979 - Do it (live)
Cursive - Career in Transcendence
Spor & Infiltrata - Three Faces
New Order - Ceremony
David Bowie - Life on Mars
-
"Who Wants to Live Forever?"
Not the version from the film, or even the video or live appearances; this is a song where you really have to hear the album track.
Are you referring to the Queen song? or another? and what film?
On that note, my favorite song of all time is "It's Late" by Queen
-
Mogwai - Cody
-
Don't think twice, it's alright by Bob Dylan. has been since I was 7.
-
Are you referring to the Queen song? or another? and what film?
I mean the Queen song; the film is Highlander, which features the first two verses (it was written for the soundtrack, and the single cover is a still frame). The single has the bridge and final verse, but is missing about a minute of instrumentals at the end that are present on the album and the compilation, and it's sappy as hell, but I'm a sucker for it.
-
Im gonna just go with Coheed and Cambria for me.
I would say anything from any album but i will be more specific. :)
Welcome Home
In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3 -song
The Willing Well 3: Apollo 2: The Telling Truth
but i am really into concept music. so...yeah.
Does anyone know more about the Trent R. (NIN) Concept album? I think it's called The Presence.
