Title: The completely un-ironic Manowar appreciation thread.
Post by: Caspian on 11 Apr 2007, 06:01
This band was the second metal band I got into after Metallica. While I found it cheesy even back then, they've got some awesome riffs, and the fact that they are completely serious about what they do is totally awesome. If Manowar were the least bit insincere, they'd suck, but they are completely serious, so they own. Could you think of a more triumphant and life-affirming band?

From the interviews I've read they seem like a pretty awesome bunch of guys. What band will give you a free T-Shirt if you go to the Merch stand at one of their shows and show them a foreign passport? Not many bands, that's for sure.

Also: IF YOU DO NOT LIKE METAL, YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND!!!!

I have a Manowar album. It makes me giggle but they sort of fall in with Dragonforce in that I can only listen to a small amount before I am like "fuck this shit"

Manowar are pretty much the only band of this style that I like. Regardless of the rampant homoeroticism, the songs about how amazing metal is , the sheer overblown style of the whole thing and all those other little aspects that help make them thoroughly entertaining what really marks them out as worthwhile is that they write genuinely good songs. Good riffs, good vocal hooks, just damn good, they build them like an articulated lorry and plough them through anyone not wearing enough baby oil on their pecs.

I don't mind Manowar, they epitomise what it means to be metal, "Triumph of Steel" and "Kings of Metal" are my favorite albums of theirs:

"Manowar Manowar living on the road
When we're in town speakers explode
We don't attract wimps 'cause we're too loud
Just true metal people that's Manowar's crowd"

"Hail and Kill" features there 'best' lyrics:

"A dark march lies ahead, together we will ride
Like thunder from the sky
May your sword stay wet like a young girl in her prime
Hold your hammers high"

Too much boredom amongst the babyoil. Sorry, man. There is no such thing as an unironic appreciation thread about manowar for me.
