And live at MTV the next day.
I would seriously cry if I met him. I know I threatened to cry if Joanna played 'Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie' live and she did and I didn't but the sound at the venue was really horrible and it totally ruined the moment for me.
Dan Johnston, though. I can't even believe he's coming.
This is huge.

Hold on, when are they putting Daniel Johnston on MTV? The fourth of Inyourdreams?
-
MTVCanada, y'all.
I've never watched it but apparently he'll be on.
-
We really are a weird country.
-
Is he really the kind of musician you go to see for his music or his sheer presence and the feelings you've built up about him from years of listening to his music?? Because while I love him to death, I can't imagine getting too excited to see him live.
-
Next to Stan Lee, he's the next person on the planet I would want to meet if I could meet anyone.
I've been a fan of his ever since hearing his cover of 'Unpack Your Adjectives' on the Schoolhouse Rock tribute album. I fell in love with the music before knowing anything about his personality or stories or disorders. When I did start to read about those things, I was so captivated. Then, when you see the documentary, it's just so hilarious and tragic and sad and heartbreaking.
Getting to actually witness a live performance is just.. unfathomable.. to me. I'm still afraid that something will happen and I won't.
-
I've watched the documentary and I just don't understand what all the fuss is about.
-
I'm not sure why anyone would want to watch the documentary unless they were already a fan. I guess it's interesting as a stand-alone. But it's really not the place to start. The best place to start is 'Songs Of Pain'.

Daniel Johnston is weird as shit, guys. One time I'm pretty sure Lou Reed was coming to this studio that Johnston was currently in, so his friends had to remove him before he found out because Dan has this fantasy of making a record with Lou Reed and he would be persistent as hell with Reed if he met him. Something like that.
-
I think he's so great because there is only one Daniel Johnston... you can't even pretend to be anything like him. So where you say he's weird I just say he's Daniel Johnston. Yeah don't even try to watch the doco unless you're a fan.
-
Umm... who's Daniel Johnston?
All I can come up with is Daniel Johns from Silverchair, and I don't think there'd be quite the hero-worship if it was him. (Actually, there probably would be but I still wouldn't get it despite knowing who you were on about)
-
I went through first year with a guy of that name. I don't think it's the same dude though, somehow.

So the show and MTV Live segments were incredible.
He only played about a nine or ten song set at the show but he was backed by a bunch of notable local musicians and they played a couple of new songs, Speeding Motorcycle, both Caspers, Love Not Dead, Mountain Top, The Beatles, and Rock This Town. Daniel sang Devil Town for an encore.
At MTV, he only played two songs - Mean Girls and another one which I didn't recognize. I think it was fairly new but it was probably the saddest song I've ever heard.
