Title: Mix CD Help
Post by: Catacombs on 13 May 2007, 18:19
I need help making a mix CD for my girlfriend.  Something to help her fall asleep to.  I'm thinking either anything acoustic or post-rock.  I've been playing with a few things but i want stuff that'll flowly nicely, although thats not a huge deal.

I always need music to fall asleep to, so i have playlists, mix cds, etc. for things like this. Here are 5 of the songs I like.

Sigur Ros - Staralfur
Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger
Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats
Air - Alone in Kyoto
Cat Stevens - The Wind

All of these songs are very peaceful and pretty quiet but still beautiful songs.  Now of course, this is just my taste in music, but these are great to fall asleep to.

Half of You - Cat Power
Blackbird - The Beatles
The Unforgiven - Apocalyptica (Metallica cover, but by cellos, so close enough)
Cinders and Smoke - Iron & Wine
Come Downstairs and Say Hello - Guster
Sleep - The Dandy Warhols

These are what I've been listening to help fall asleep! Theses are pretty much whole albums.

The Clientele - God Save The Clientele
Flunk - Personal Stereo
Anaïs Mitchell - The Brightness
Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55
Kristofer Astroem - Loupita
Lost In The Trees - Time Taunts Me
Radical Face - Ghost

I can upload any of these if you want...

Oh and jeez "All You Need Is Love" by Bjork is pretty much essential. The album version, not the video version.

Best idea for a cover, ever.

...though I think you mean "All is Full of Love"

Any good "sleepy time music for girlfriends" cd would be wrong to not include a song or two by Denison Witmer. "I Would Call You Now" is a good choice.

I certainly don't.

"Loff is all... you need!"

(you're correct)

Anything at all by the following bands:

Eluvium
Belong
Stars of the Lid
The Album Leaf

These are all bands which produce beautiful, amazing music. Most of it is very dense, ambient, and glacial. But in a really really good way. These would be perfect songs to fall to sleep to.

This is neither acoustic nor post rock, but 'Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt' by DJ Shadow always does the job for me.

Sure, no problem.  I'll bump the 'huddled mixes' topic when i'm done.
