Title: 'Bout Ghost World.
Post by: bringbackthemixtape on 16 Jun 2007, 02:06
I just finished reading the book by Clowes I thought it was quite moving, humm..
But I was wondering if there were any diffrences between the film and original graphic novel?
And if I should go check out the film now.?. thanks!

-Wow I really enjoyed the end. I'm going to be thinking about that for days.

I thought the movie was pretty good/It has Thora Birch in it.

It is my understanding that the character played by Steve Buscemi in the movie, who is a very important character, appeared in only one very brief vignette in the comic, as an object of fun for the girls. So that's a pretty big difference.

The film is worth seeing.

The film IS worth seeing, but I don't think I "get it."  Personally, I find the main characters obnoxious and catty for most of the time, and I think the romance between Enid and whateverthefuckSteveBuscemi'scharacteriscalled was REALLY REALLY forced.

It's different enough to be worth a viewing. The screenplay was written by Daniel Clowes so it still has his flava, though I prefer Art School Confidential if we're talking Dan Clowes films. Fuck he's such a great writer though, I urge you to get everything else he's done if you haven't already. My avatar's from one of his books.

The comic is TOTALLY different, but I still (suprisingly) love the movie!

I was disappointed that Steve B's role from the movie wasn't as broad in the comic book (I saw the movie first, which was dumb of me...), but you get over it. The story line is...the same, but different, like the trip that they take, and that Enid drives the herse and all that --that doesn't happen in the movie. You really have to watch the movie to see the differences. Both are fantastic, and I totally reccomend watching the movie.  If you understood the comic book, then you should understand the movie, but I will concur with ampersandwitch and say that it might take a few viewings before you "get it"...

Yes. Yes it is. Vastly different, but simplicitly the same... The movie has one on-going plot, where the comic seemed (to me) to have a lot of little stories inside of one big story. But seriously, check out the movie. You won't regret it.

I sort of did.
What's wrong with me?  Why didn't I enjoy it?  Was I doing something wrong?

The book is great. Haven't seen the film but I know people who swear by its quality.
