Title: The Random Question Game
Post by: AmyE on 03 Jul 2007, 19:45
Okay, just because I feel so appreciated, (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,16563.0.html) I thought we could try a game, that I've done on other forums. It's ushually pretty interesting.

The point: You try to come up with the most randomest/interesting/oddest question of all times to ask the person below you. Also, you have to answere honestly the question of person above you.

So, say their was a post above this one, I would answere that and than ask another question but since their isn't, I'm just going to ask a question. See? (Hopefully you do... or I'm just dismal at explaining things...) Oh and I'm sorry if you guys have already played this or somthing...

Have you ever sucked jell-o through a straw?

New question

If you were offered the chance to live another fifteen years, in which time you could not die no matter how stupid you were, but at the end of the fifteen years you are going to die, would you take it, or live normally?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: mberan42 on 06 Jul 2007, 19:38
Live normally. I'm only 26 - I could have at least another 75 years in me. (On the other hand, I've always wanted to jump off of buildings and bridges without dying. Or see what it feels like to get shot or electrocuted. Or drink two gallons of cheap whisky in one night. Or take as many drugs as I could possibly afford.)

Who would play your mother in the movie of your life?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: jhocking on 06 Jul 2007, 19:40
I would live normally. I'd be tempted though, because there's definitely plenty of fun shit I could do if I didn't have to worry about dying, but ultimately most of that stuff is pretty selfish and solitary since noone else could be as reckless as me, and so I'd probably get bored of that stuff well before the 15 years are up and then I'd go back to chilling out with friends.

Is there anything you really want to do but you won't because of some minor downside?

ADDITION: geez, play my mother? I have no idea.

Autumn is pretty rad, yeah. I like how the leaves change and it gets colder. Perfect weather for a scarf and a mug of tea, watching cute girls in scarves walk about town. By far my favourite season.

"Now is the winter of our discontent" is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Shakespeare lines. What is one of your favourite quotes (by anybody) and why?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: CookedHaggis on 09 Jul 2007, 12:15
[You know, just to be annoying, I should probably point out that your quote continues "made glorious summer by this son of York".  i.e. In context the speech actually implies is "the winter of our discontent" is over.]

Shakespeare's just got so many amazing passages it's hard to choose (I know you said by anyone, but hey, the guy could, at his best, out-write anyone). Personally, my favourite has always been:

"conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er, with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment,
With this regard turn their currents awry,
And lose the name of action."

Mainly because it seems to apply to so much (not just, you know, contemplating death); it perfectly fits any time you find yourself overthinking or procrastinating to the point of irresolution.

Also pretty much the entire "What a piece of work is a man" speech, not least because it equisitely ends Withnail & I.

[New question with more sequentialness: Is there anything more satisfying than getting a perfect slinky run all the way to the bottom of the stairs?

[You know, just to be annoying, I should probably point out that your quote continues "made glorious summer by this son of York".  i.e. In context the speech actually implies is "the winter of our discontent" is over.]

Not annoying at all. I specifically left it out for two reasons: Kai already mentioned Summer and I was hoping that the reply to my question had "Spring" somewhere in it.

If you think catching pokemans is going to find you true love, you're doing it wrong. You need to catch girls. (Or boys, if that's your thing.) An unmarked van works well. And candy - lots of candy. Once you catch them, it helps to tie them up, and maybe gag them. That way the screaming isn't so loud.

What would you give up to never have a hangover again, no matter how much you drink the night before?

(and if you say "alcohol" as your response, or "I don't drink" or "alcohol is against my religion" or some other crap like that, so help me Jeebus, I will find out where you live, purchase a plane ticket to the nearest airport to your home, fly there, rent a car, drive to your house, knock on your door and when you answer it, punch you in the stomach.)

The kind where I don't have to be involved. Or a waltz. At least I can do it. I am not what one would call graceful.

There are two doors in front of you. One door leads to certain death, the other to relative safety. Both doors have a guard (that is, each door has it's own guard). One of the guards always tells the truth, the other always lies. You are only allowed to ask one guard one question before you choose your door. How do you find out which door will lead you to safety?

Darryl, Edith, Oli and possibly Eris are not allowed to answer this one.

Post by: philosopherqueen on 11 Jul 2007, 12:19

You ask either guard which door the other guard would say leads to safety and then you take the other door cause you've insured to include the lie in the answer.

A real answer to Mikagon's question: That's a difficult question. I would have to say the ones that have made me reevaluate some aspect of my view of reality as I see it, whether that is a belief I held or a look into a new genre of humour or just a different perspective on, say, how dogs think. This would mostly be authors whose books I read as a kid, but are not to exclude Tolkien or Orwell or Mary Stewart or Wilde or Asimov or my personal scifi favourites, Lackey, Pratchett, Fallon, and Friedman.

Seriously though, Ale is amazing, and I vastly prefer it to Lager when it comes to beer.

Recently all I've really been drinking is IPA's(India Pale Ale's) which are much more strongly hopped than traditional ales, and also tend to have a higher %abv. The hoppyness gives them a wonderful bitterness, and the best of them also have really great notes of grapefruit in them that is just instant boners.

Also in the ale family, and also fucking amazing, are Stouts. I will drink Russian Imperial Stouts till the day I die. I like my beers, or at least my stouts, so dark that I can hold them up to the light and not see through them. I like stouts I can fucking chew, stouts that are a meal in them selves. Old Rasputin or Victory Stormking, both Russian Imperials, are my favourites.

Because Don Delillo isn't my favourite author?  Because I don't have a large body of his work on my bookshelf?  Because authors like Bret Easton Ellis don't name him as one of their major influences and he isn't considered one of the most influential novelists of his time? Because unlike Lackey and Pratchett (who are fun to read but in terms of merit, crap) he doesn't have any literary worth?

Please, my answer was real and to the point, I answered all he asked for.

Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Jimmy the Squid on 12 Jul 2007, 00:25
Probably because nobody cares anymore. I mean, almost everyone has a car  and it's a pretty taken-for-granted type of invention. In earlier times I suspect people were all "Oh wow! Look at this cool thing that let's us go places fast! Let's see if we can't make it even cooler!!" However I like the design of some cars now. I really really want a Mazda RX6 (not just because it was the car in Xmen 2) because it is a really nice looking machine. I also want a 1969 Dodge Charger but I think that might come under the cars that were a little bit more interesting in terms of raised angles and lines and whatnot.

What is one thing you would change about your significant other? It can be physical but it can also be anything. People not in relationships need not reply.
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: McTaggart on 12 Jul 2007, 00:32
Dammit you're too fast.

But for Dan's question I think it has more to do with increasingly strict design and safety standards than with designers not wanting to show off. The more rules you impose on the design the fewer shapes that fit the rules there are and you run out of room for anything bold and new. The regulations are also built around the accepted design for the shape of a car so they kindof re-inforce that this is the way it should be.

I suppose it's also easier to sell people things they know and are comfortable with already.

If I were to kill someone it would be someone who deserved it by my standards, like a rapist/high-school athlete. Somebody that world would be better without. I would leave it mostly intact in a place that would be convenient so that it would be found before decaying too much.

The most awkward question I have ever been posed was what was I doing completely covered in a blanket riding on a bus filled with my team mates to our next competition while having a light on underneath the blanket and giggling hysterically. The answer I gave was that I was laughing at the shadow puppets I was making that looked better then your mom. In reality I was just texting a friend who happens to be extremely funny when drunk. pomegranate = nectar of the gods
I would just like to point out that it is actually the food of the dead... Ambrosia is the food of the gods (a type of grape? I'm not sure).

Nectar is the drink of the gods, ambrosia is the food of the gods. Ambrosia is probably honey although no one's really sure. Anyway, to answer the post two up from this, I will preface my answer by saying I never have chinese leftovers in my house. Ever. Ok, this is 100% true: One night I came home late. I was hungry so I rooted through the fridge. There were some random brown paper bags which I didn't bother looking in, cheese, chocolate, deli meat, peanut butter ect.

I settled on some chocolate and then went down to my computer. I logged onto my facebook account and went to update my status. I typed, "I am hungry and therefore I am eating chocolate." Somehow this seemed incomplete so I decided to add something. I don't know why but for some strange reason the words "cold dumplings" popped into my head. I hadn't eaten, seen, or even thought about dumplings in several weeks at least. But that's what came to me. So I added it to my status so it read, "I am hungry and therefore I am eating chocolate and cold dumplings."

A bit later I went to bed. I woke up the next morning, did some work, bummed around on the computer ect. Around lunch time, hungry again, I went upstairs. I opened my fridge and was greeted by the same site as the night before. I looked around and saw nothing appealing. In my frustration, I randomly grabbed one of the brown paper bags and opened it. Inside was a white Styrofoam container. I set it down on the counter top, opened it up, and froze. Inside, in a large pile, were several cold dumplings.

That's my story. It's the most unbelievable thing that's happened to me and no one I tell it to believes me but I swear it's true.

Anyways: What is one intensely embarrassing moment from your childhood that will likely stay with you for life?

There are just so many good ones out there, just so many delicious things to add. It feels so wrong picking one above the rest! What about Basil, Cilantro, Thyme, Garam Masala, Coriander, Cumin, Fennel...
But Oregano usually works with whatever I'm cooking. And it's the one my dad loves, so I guess it's still my favorite.

Of the past dozen albums you've listened to, how many of them do you actually own?

I think you should go out and find yourself some French Toast. French Toast is about the greatest thing ever and it's just ever so hard to really fuck up. Every time I go out drinking, I get some french toast the next morning.

I'm too lazy to fix/"go out and find" french toast. I just settled for microwave taquitos.

I would have to say I probably REALLY owned about 2/12. At school, there is a semi-legal loophole where all the computers on the network can swap music and video files, and I got a phenomenal amount of good new music that way. It is a bit shady and probably will be closed down soon, but this way I can be a poor college kid and still explore new music. I think most people in my age bracket rationalize music theft to a certain extent, the internet just makes it seem so easy and non-criminal.

Yes, yes it does. Your mere mention right there just sent my back into a ridiculous itching situation the likes of which I've not felt since allergy testing (Worst thing ever).

At a bar, do you prefer to go out and dance or chill at the bar shooting the shit with random people? Don't forget the why, I'm all for the nice, detailed answers.

I do both, really. I get a drink and then go elsewhere and maybe dance. I don't like sitting at the bar, mostly, because when you're sitting along the bar and it's loud, it's hard to talk to the people on the ends if there's more than three people. So usually it's get the drinks and either stand in a circle or sit at a table. Or dance, if there's decent music.

Around Halloween, I got asked by this guy if there was a sea cucumber isle. (I work in a craft store.) He supposedly needed to find stuff for a costume.

Depends on where I am. Certain parts of St. Louis(my hometown), no. Most places in Edwardsville(Where I live now), sure. My front yard, no.

St. Louis: I wouldn't recommend running barefoot in any city really. Especially in a junky one like St. Louis.
Edwardsville: It's a small farming town. Most of the people who live here really care about the environment. The grass is usually pretty clear of broken glass.
My front yard: Drunken college boys lived here before me. When I planted flowers out front, I found lots of broken glass. Cut my hands too. I wouldn't recommend wearing sandals out there.

What time should I try to call the place I'm trying to get a job at? They opened at 9:00, and it is now 10:10.

After my camping trip, I found a tick on the back of my leg. It was right behind my knee, infact. It had already bitten me, and I couldn't remove it on my own, so I had to have my mom pull it off. It was gross. We couldn't get the thing off for awhile. Finally my dad came in and asked us what the hell we were doing, and he finnally pulled the damn tick out. I think he left the head in though. I have a big red itchy bump where it bit me.

This is why I like being from the North. Sure, in the summer we've got black flies and mosquitoes, but there ain't no fricken ticks leaving their heads inside my body, or creepy ass spiders trying to irradiate my legs. Just bugs out for blood and some wolves/bears that would eat me in a moment. Those I can deal with.

Dear SilentJ,

I've noticed you've made some attempts to play along in this game with everyone. However, I don't think you are all too clear on the rules. Here's some helpful hints.

Gameplay:
Poster one asks a question.
Poster two answers and asks another question.
Poster three answers, and ask yet another question.
Repeat.

Tips:
One word answers are frowned upon.
Same goes for one word questions.

Try these helpful hints out. I hope you keep playing.

Take care,
Emaline

Emaline, just saw the post.  Thanks for keeping me in check!

In response to the last question, the weirdest dame I've ever played is actually one of my favorites for parties.  None other than The Uncomfortable GameTM!

For those who do not know, the Uncomfortable Game is quite simple.  One person tries to make another uncomfortable by any means necessary,  If Person B can succeed in making Person A uncomfortable, they win.  Conversely, if Person A never becomes uncomfortable, but Person B becomes uincomfortable in trying to make Person A uncomfortable, then Person A wins.  Simple (uncomfortable)!

Is anybody feeling uncomfortable now?  How about with the 10 total uses of the word "uncomfortable" in this post?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: schimmy on 17 Jul 2007, 15:28
I play Gay Chicken with some of my friends sometimes, that's basically the Uncomfortable Game, isn't it? Some of my friends are better at it than others. For example, there's one who won't even let me hug him. While another grabbed my genitalia and wouldn't let go for a good few minutes of me shouting.
My leg's resting on a shelf pulled half out of my wardrobe. It's mildly uncomfortable, and I'm going to have a long dint in my skin from where the wood cut into me. I'm also getting slight pins and needles in my right foot.
I also feel rather uncomfortable because soon my best friend is going to find out that I told his girlfriend that he cheated on her.

Did you count how many times SilentJ said uncomfortable? Have you ever played the game he describes? Are there any other similar games that you play, or have seen played?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Ozymandias on 17 Jul 2007, 15:45
Gay chicken is pretty common among my friends.

One of my friends walked up to me once after I was hitting on him, and grabbed my junk full on. I stared at him, completely unfazed, until he screamed and ran off to wash his hands. I cracked up so much.

I have made out with a large number of dude friends now due to desensitizing each other on gayness.

It's okay.

Have you made out with a large percentage of your friends?

Have you ever decided to see what would happen if you let hair grow on part of your body that you usually shave?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game

Well, honestly, the only part of my body I shave on a regular basis is my armpit, and I HAVE seen it grow out to an extent. Honestly, that was enough for me. I have no desire to see it au natural.

What body parts do you shave?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 17 Jul 2007, 16:48
Lower legs since I was 11 (these days I only do so like once a week), upper legs when I go to the beach, armpits since age 12 (every day without fail), and my arms since eighth grade when a boy called me a monkey.. and got everyone else to, as well. Those are what I'm letting grow back. It's not too bad, actually.

What is your most "interesting" memory of a day at the beach/pool/lake/river?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 17 Jul 2007, 16:53
Wait, so you shave your armpits, but not your legs? I mean no offense, I just don't comprehend the idea. Why shave one, but not the other?

Anyways, I'll answer the next question:

Most interesting memory of a "day" at the beach is when I drove up to Hampton Beach at 2 AM to take pictures of the sunrise for my ex's birthday. Aside from being beautiful out, and very inspirational (I even wrote a poem in the sand, fun times), but I'd never seen early morning beach people. You know those nuts who go out there with metal detectors? Yeah, them.

I have decided that if it came down to never having a Wendy's Frosty or never receiving oral sex again, I think I would choose to give up head. Is there anyone else who feels this way?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: camelpimp on 17 Jul 2007, 16:55
No, because I work at Wendy's and HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT! If I never had a Frosty again, it means I'd deal a financial blow to Wendy's, so more power to me. Fuck them.

(And why do I shave the pits and not the legs? Well, pits are easy, quicker, are far less likely to cause me bleeding)

Why does Obsessions like Wendy's Frosties so much?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 17 Jul 2007, 17:00
Probably for the same reason as I do: they are orgasmic. I'd give up oral sex in a heartbeat for frosties. Also, they're what I crave on my ladies days. Those and double doubles from In-N-Out.

Have you ever boycotted anything?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 17 Jul 2007, 18:17
I boycotted Sony produced media for a time. I bought In Your Honor by the Foo Fighters wishing to rip it to my computer and use on my iPod, as I don't actually own a CD player anymore. After doing so, I found I couldn't put it on my iPod at all. Sony had decided to limit it to ripping in a copy protected WMA format, meaning it would not go on iPods. I swore not to buy another Sony product until a satisfactory resolution was reached.

The boycott was helpful, as I also signed on for a class action lawsuit filed against Sony. Said album's copy protection was legally a form of malware, so the suit won out and everyone signed on got a full refund and a gift code to download the album for free on iTunes. I'd be all for not pressing the button. I can see four options (assuming we're only going to work with one brother, two brothers adds complications) 1 we both press, and both die. 2 I press, he dies. 3 he presses I die. 4 neither press neither die. pressing the button gives me a 50/50 chance of survival but a certainty of my brother dying, not pressing still gives me a 50/50 chance of survival, but my brother would not.

Oh, this one's delightful:

I met out with this girl like two and a half years ago. She had recently broken up with a guy whom she was stuck still living with. Half the date was spent with her bitching about him. Eventually, we got onto the subjects of our family lives at which point she started talking about her alcoholic mother and abusive father and told me about the time she tried to kill herself. How is that shit NOT a social faux pas for a first date?! Needless to say, there was no second date, though I do appreciate her being batshit fucking loco the first time out, as usually you women wait until you've got us good and hooked before you reveal how absolutely god damn nuts you are (At least in my sordid experience).

I also had a girl confess to me about the miscarriage she had about eight years prior after our first time sleeping together. What's the most awkward thing someone has said to you right after the act?

Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 19 Jul 2007, 14:45
No such thing as *the* klutziest thing I've done in public. I fall and do stupid things too often. The most embarrassing klutzy thing, though- that's easy. I was walking across the quad at my high school as a little bitty freshman at a break, carrying all of my books and notebooks and such in my arms when I suddenly trip... over nothing. Everything goes flying; at least one of my binders pops open and throws paper all over the place. To add insult to injury, I somehow managed to sprain my ankle. Naturally, no students come over to help. There probably was laughing, I don't really remember- it was like in a movie where it's slow-motion and all silent and such. But then, the sweet, squat little Spanish teacher came running over to me, and starting cooing in spanish: "pobre hija" or something like that... and then she started directing the students milling about to pick my things up for me when she noticed that I couldn't stand up, and got a big guy to carry me to the office.

Mildly mortifying... but when I look back on it, it's HILARIOUS.

I just got done telling someone this story via aim, so I'll just post the conversation here:

Emaline's most embarassing high school moment! or Let's not be homeless, ok?
andlemonade (5:23:31 PM): Once, in high school, I decided it would be a good idea to be homeless(don't ask), and my friends wouldn't let me even try.
CrazyMonkeyNate (5:28:48 PM): and why do you think that it would have been a good idea to become homeless
andlemonade (5:24:40 PM): During one class we were talking about it, and I said "Just you guys wait. I'll be homeless if I want to be, and then I'll just point at you guys and laugh, and say 'Haha, I'm homeless now, bitches!!'"
andlemonade (5:25:19 PM): And of course that was as soon as everyone in class had gotten quiet, and I was really loud, so everyone heard me.
andlemonade (5:25:45 PM): I don't remember why I thought it was a good idea, it was probably because I was so totally punk rock.

Yep. Everyone heard me declare that I wanted to be homeless, and was pretty much insane. Of course everyone laughed. My teacher even commented on it. I didn't live that one down for a bit.

I really love beer. German beers, and wheat beers are my favorites, but how I do love my cheap beers. PBR and High Life bring back all kinds of good nostalgic feelings. Do you like beer? If so, what kind?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 19 Jul 2007, 16:12
Sadly, I hate beer in all of its forms. I think there are two main reasons: 1- I have never had a good beer. 2- When I was four or five, my dad gave me a sip of beer. The taste of it so disgusted me that to this day, even the smell of beer makes me gag.

Also, I hate the taste of alcohol in general. I literally wince after drinking, and if I can taste it too much, I get goosebumps. eeeeeh... thinking about the taste gives me goosebumps. I make a lot of mixed girlie drinks... and I've been known to cut drinks given to me with more juice/soda/whatever. I also get goosebumps from pulling apart cotton... or from someone pulling apart cotton right next to my ear.. or from thinking about it too much. It's hell when I open a new bottle of pills and no one's around to take out the cotton for me... eugh.

What is your favorite alcoholic beverage? If you don't drink, you get a different question: why don't you drink?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 19 Jul 2007, 16:18
I tend to switch up a bit every few months (I've only been drinking about a year and a half now). My current drinks of choice are car bombs (Irish whiskey with Bailey's and Guinness), Jameson and coke and just regular old beer (Generally Bud Light or Killian's). I also love tequila shots on occasion.

I once had way too much Vodka and ended up making out with a fat girl, which a couple of my friends snapped on their camera phones. What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done drunk?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 19 Jul 2007, 16:26
Thankfully, my fiance has been with me every time I've been drunk (except for the one time I got drunk alone), so he doesn't let too much happen. But the one thing that makes me turn a little red when I remember it was my first time. We were drunk talking about how flexible we were and such, and one of the guys mentioned that an ex could put both legs behind her head. I said that I could do that too.. and they demanded proof. Naturally, I obliged. I think I may have given them an eyeful, too... and they were all guys. Thankfully, they were all drunk out of their mind, and don't even remember me doing that. I had to babysit one of them for most of the night...

What's the dumbest thing you or someone you know (and personally witnessed) has done drunk?

I went to Leeds for the weekend to see my friend's band practice, and stay over at his house. After practice, we got back to his house, and decided that a fire was in order. We built a fire in his back garden and all sat around it drinking home made wine and beer. After finishing off about three quaters of a bottle of wine to himself, the guy who I was visiting moved onto whiskey. After sitting outside for a bit, playing with the fire (I was pretty amazed that I could put my foot in the flame and not feel a thing) we went back inside to sit around in the living room. My friend was still drinking at this point, but everyone else had stopped. His dad was sitting in the middle of the room, rolling a spliff. When my friend suddenly burst out saying "Oh, oh, oh, dad. A while ago I stole some of your weed and sold it to my friends." Now, I thought this was a pretty dumb thing to admit to, but his dad's reaction was even better, he just continued staring at the floor, rolling the spliff, and just said "Yeah... I thought you might have done that."

Most people I know used to listen to music that they now think is awful, and now they listen to a totally different type of music. What was the first record you bought or listened to that introduced you to the type of music you listen to know? What sort of effect do you think it has had on the way you live your life, and your life in general?

I suppose it's a mad scramble between Interpol's "Antics" and Franz Ferdinand's "You Could Have it So Much Better." Neither album was that good (I sold the Interpol album) but I suppose that's what introduced to indie-eqsue music. They were probably the start of me broadening my music taste. I don't listen to 'em today though.

Oh God... psycho ex... this one girl I dated would be absolutely crazy physically behind closed doors, but hated to display affection publicly. We broke up violently over that. I had a particularly good day, saw her in a mall, gave her a hug from behind, and she proceeded to elbow me in the ribs, turn around, and slap me so hard I fell down. I remember sitting there for a few moments, suppressing this anger, getting up slowly, turning to her, and telling her not to call me again.

Dunno where she is now because she took my advice.

To shift gears in a particularly more sadistic light, what's your favorite form of torture? Use details.
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 20 Jul 2007, 06:01
This is why I hate the "detailed answers" requirement. I spend like fifteen minutes writing up a response, and someone beats me to it. Fuck it, though. I win the psycho exes game, so I'm posting it anyways.

I have worked my way quite effectively through the briar patch of psychos. I've heard the phrase "Just because I said no, doesn't mean I didn't want you," and I've been dumped for getting "too serious" by a girl who proposed marriage to me. I even dated a girl for a year who was literally diagnosed as a borderline sociopath. They all pale, though, to this girl I dated just before I turned twenty.

We only dated for about a month. Within a couple weeks, she was telling me she loved me. She then started pressuring me with the whole "if you love me, you'll sleep with me" thing (Which I didn't want to do initially, as she was a virgin and I wasn't sure I'd be with her long). Eventually, I did sleep with her and then she got even worse. Calling me like every hour, popping up at my job randomly and getting paranoid about all my friends (At the time, most of my friends were girls). Eventually, I dumped her. What followed was a month of her STILL calling me every hour, only now she was threatening suicide and screaming shit like "how could you do this to me?!" (Don't forget, we only dated a single...fucking...month). After about a month, she ended up having herself committed and then a month later she showed up with her "girlfriend" at my new job. She asked me what I thought of her new girlfriend in a rather "see, I don't need you. I don't need you at all" desperate tone, I kinda responded with "Well, she's nice if you like plain, chubby chicks, I suppose."

Thankfully, I haven't seen her since then.

In answer to the actual followup question: the mercury torture. Basically, the way it works is you take a shaft of mercury in a VERY thin coating of glass (I.E., thinner than a thermometer) and jam it up a dude's urethra. From there, you bring in something that will arouse him. Shortly, the mercury will expand from the heat and burst inside his urethra. It makes me cringe thinking about it.

If you could only watch one TV show for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Doctor Who.
There's basically enough episodes to last me a lifetime, plus I would eat handfuls of cold gravel if David Tennant asked me to. I'm really quite upset that I work nights at my new job because it means I miss the new episodes, as well as Torchwood. I wanted to cry the first time I missed it, but I figured getting paid was really more important.

What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever worn?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: jhocking on 20 Jul 2007, 06:30
I feel like there should be a timeframe on that question. Like, my mom used to dress me in pastel Benneton sweatsuits in elementary school, but such attire was not nearly as embarrassing then as it would be now. Or perhaps the question should specify what is the most embarrassed you have ever felt in an outfit, thus disallowing anything where you're embarrassed looking back on old photos or something like that.

Y'know what, it doesn't actually matter. I have a situation where I was terribly embarrassed at the time, and it is embarrassing to look back on it. When I first moved to this country, before school started there was a get-together for new day students (I went to a boarding school, but I lived in the area.) I was under the impression it was a pool party, so I wore my swimsuit (and mind you, the only swimsuit I had was rather garish.) As it happened, it was not a pool party, so there I was, this awkward nerdy highschooler, stuck in a gathering of my new classmates at a new school in a new country, and I'm dressed like a goddamn beach tourist. Oh yeah, and I was the only guy present; it just happened that every other student who showed up, including the upperclassmen running the orientation session, were girls.

Anyways, far and away, worst movie I have ever seen was the Blair Witch Project. It was awful and a letdown in any way. I actually fell asleep the first time I tried to watch it. The ending was also the biggest load of shit ever conceived.

What is the best movie you have ever seen?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: schimmy on 20 Jul 2007, 08:03
The best movie I've ever watched? I don't know, I remember being really impressed by Fight Club and Memento. Both are, at the very least, excellent films. But I can't write much about them, while technically they were very good, very well made, etc. they didn't really affect me in any way, or leave me wanting to watch them again. So I'll talk about my favourite movie ever. Hopefully that'll turn out to be more interesting, anyway.
Almost Famous is far and away my favourite film. I've seen it so many times I've lost count. And that isn't an exaggeration. Every half term I have, I watch it at least once. I must have watched it at least half a dozen times last summer, and the summer before. My exams finished late June, and since then, I have watched the film three times, on three consecutive days. Instead of getting boring, as you'd excpect, it actually gets better every time I watch it. Now I know the plot inside out, and know word-for-word most of what is said, I'm noticing loads of incidental details and throw-away comments, and they just make the movie even better than before.
The reason I love it, though? Obviously, one of the big draws is the music. (the music budget was $3.5m most films have a music budget of less than $1.5m*) There isn't a bad song in the entire film, and they are all perfectly suited to locating the film within the time period, and more importantly, they really make you feel what the characters are feeling, which is something I honestly can't say for almost all of the other films I have ever seen.
Obviously the plot is also something that I love, but I won't go into spoilers so I don't ruin it for those of you who haven't seen it. I'd summarise it as the kind of coming-of-age story that everybody would love to go through.
Also: Kate Hudson topless!

Alrighty... a question. Do you watch comic > film adaptations? What is your opinion on them? Do they all suck? Are they all great? Is it anything more than directors trying to get a sure-fire hit?

*According to wikipedia.
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: SusurrusIgnoramus on 20 Jul 2007, 11:12
it really depends on which movie you're talking about.  i loved the x-men films (except the last one), loved the spiderman films (still haven't seen the last one) i hated the hulk, hated fantastic four, hated hellboy, and hated sin city at first, but then i loved it.

there are so many variables... i'm much more likely to forgive shortcommings if it's a franchise i love (more LIKELY, but not NECESSARILY).  it depends on director, actors, script... specialFX are almost always good, so it's rarely the look of the film.

so, i guess what i'm getting at is, they're either really good, or total crap.  i don't think it's directors trying to get a sure-fire hit, i think it's the big companies that are trying to make a shit load of money whether the movie is good or not.  some directors love the franchise they're directing and try their best to do it justice.  but, then you keep making sequals that bleed the franchise dry...

ok, my question: what is the worst gift you ever recieved that you had to pretend to like?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: ThePQ4 on 20 Jul 2007, 12:37
A large variety of clothes... I hate receiving clothes as gifts, because it is usually stuff I would not be caught dead in. The most ghastly, I think was a powder blue sweater, which on it's own would be fine, but given my love of penguins, my grandmother took it upon herself to sew a couple dozen of them sporatically all over the sweater. My Sister was given one similar to it, excpet with kittens... the difference between my sister and I: she actually wears it. Mine is still shoved in a drawer at home somewhere...

Where are you going to be at 12:01 tonight?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 20 Jul 2007, 13:08
At 12:01, I will be leaving my local 24-hour grocery store, with my new HP7 book in tow. Of course, I already have a copy of the book on my computer (whooo bit torrents and silly book sellers that shipped early!)... Ron dies on page 481, American version.

I was totally kidding, by the way. Hermione dies on that page. RON just gets terribly injured on page 266, and he ends up dying later, on page 621...

Who do YOU want to die in HP7? Remember, JKR said two "main characters" die.

I think they should all die on the last page. A nuclear bomb should hit Hogworts, and unicorns shall rule the rubble.

I hope that's a joke, Cai. (Dan mentioned banning people if they post those spoilers.)

How much TV do you watch on the average day?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 20 Jul 2007, 14:09
Uh, yeah. I was totally bullshitting. I know that I would probably be tempted to murder anyone who posted spoilers for HP7 today (*especially* without warning). Of course, after tomorrow, I say everything's fair game. If you can't read a 700-page children's book in a day, it sucks to be you. Of course, I'll probably be dead in bed all weekend, recuperating...

I don't watch much TV. Half hour or so? Maybe one hour? It's usually on in the background, though.

I've been vegetarian since birth thanks to hippie parents, and as such I do not have the stomach enzymes to digest meat. Two weeks ago while at camp, the kitchen staff accidentally gave me meat sauce on pasta...
I only ate about two fork-fuls then promptly spent the next 5 hours vomiting and feeling like utter hell.

I'm baking brownies, as we speak. How do you prefer your brownies? "Cake like" or gooey?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 20 Jul 2007, 16:00
Gooey, definitely. I put in chocolate chips to make it more better. I've never been a big fan of frosting on brownies, though, so they have to be gooey.

I like that word. Gooey.

What word or phrase have you used lately that someone TOTALLY misunderstood? (example: I said "trying to get that comforter into that grocery bag is a pointless exercise in futility," a few days back and a lady started talking about how her doctor says she needs to exercise more).

Today is Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam's birthday. My mom told me this, and I said something, and she completely misunderstood what I said, saying "But it's his birthday..." I wasn't arguing that.

So, the other night, after(actually during, but towards the end) I texted a friend asking if they were still up(it was around 4 or 5am). They never wrote back, not a big deal. Last night, around 12-1am, I called them. No answer. I didn't really have anything in perticular that I needed to tell them, so I didn't leave a voicemail. However, I'm thinking of planning a movie night this Sunday, or Saturday depending on people's schedule. I'd like to invite this person along, but I would hate to call them again. This is someone who I've made out with, and such, but really don't want to be in a relationship with, despite wanting to hang out with him a lot. He agrees on the not going out thing. I don't want to seem to "girlfriend-y". Should I call tonight, or just wait until tomorrow, or so?

A couple of things really. A Psychologist, then a Jet Pilot, then a voice actor, then a writer, then a screenwriter and now I'm studying to be a psychologist so I'm pretty much doin what I wanted to. The reason I changed my mind so many times was because all my teachers, well, most of my teachers said I wasn't smart enough to do Psychology.
However the correct answer to the 'What do you want to be when you grow up?" question is a slightly confused paused follwed by "I already am..."

Staying on topic, did anyone in a place of authority (eg. teacher, parent, 40 year old track coach...) tell you you're not smart enough to do what you wanted to do? If so, did you prove them wrong?

I don't like it when people say things like that to me.

Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 23 Jul 2007, 12:03
I'm of the trendwhore argument. The mohawk's been done to death. It used to have rebellion and anti-establishment all over it, but now it's become such a mainstream "punk" staple that it's lost all meaning and street cred and just makes the wearer look like an oddball moron who doesn't realize they missed a spot shaving their head.

Though, by contrast, it's nowhere near as bad as the "devil lock." Nothing screams "I write utter shit poetry and cut myself to Linkin Park" than a devil lock.

What did you think of the new Harry Potter book? Try and elaborate a bit.

Because I feel like nodding to a previous question about the internet being for pron: It is so because muppets told me so (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5430343841227974645). (That was the only full version of the song I could be bothered to find, so excuse the fact that it's not performed by muppets).

Well, as using emoticons too often is frowned upon on many interweb forums (particularly on this one, I've noticed), my guess would be that it's there for ironic purposes. Also, it's funny. I grin a little every time I see it. However, think about it: what would you write in the place of that one? *afro guy* That's just weird. Oh, scale of one to ten- forty two.

What's your favorite sport to watch in person?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 23 Jul 2007, 21:30
Hockey, hands down. Preferably right at the glass. After that, I love baseball games, but mostly for the atmosphere. I sometimes bring a book. I hate watching soccer in person because I often feel a need to run onto the field (god I miss that game), but I can usually watch on TV well enough... I just yell a lot, and american football is boring as all get-out to watch. Playing is a different story. I'm sure I would enjoy watching lacrosse, but I haven't had the chance to catch a game yet. I've watched men practice rugby, and that looks like a sport you shouldn't play unless you're willing to die... I'd love to watch a match sometime.

Sorry I rambled a bit. I like sports.

I was driving up Route 3 in New Hampshire three Novembers ago. I was only doing fifty, but it was raining pretty bad and traveling in the left lane. I started to lose control and started fishtailing. I was in someone else's car as mine was incapacitated, so I was not in perfect control as usual. I couldn't bring myself out of it and ended up flying off to the left and coasting across the extremely wet and slick grass in between the northbound and southbound expressways in a complete spin. I got 3/4 of the way across the grass before I started to slow down and finally managed to stop the car just shy of the guard rail on the southbound side through extreme use of the e-brake. The slowdown was very sudden, and for a moment it looked like I was going to fly right through the guard rail into oncoming traffic. I was in a small car with no airbags, so this probably would've been an automatic death sentence for me. I almost worked myself into an asthma attack I was so panicked. I got lucky, turned out I had hit a small pipe halfway across which is what slowed me up. It fucked one of the wheels but good, but I was safe, at least.

After exiting the vehicle to freak out for a minute, I saw a state trooper parked across the northbound end with his radar gun. Prick didn't even fucking move the entire time I composed myself and got back in to get off the highway and go back home and clutch the floor for dear life. What's the most i nfuriated you've ever found yourself with a law enforcement person?

When my brother came home one day, he told a story about a cop that had happened that day. My brother was seventeen at the time, and he DID look a bit like a punk (bandanna tied around his head all the time, aviator sunglasses, died black hair (spiked), and very very muscular), but still.... here's what Mr. cop man did. Pulled him over for no reason. He wasn't speeding (the limit was 55 there, and he drove a crap car. I doubt it could go above 60) or doing anything wrong as far as he knew. The cop told him that he didn't have his seatbelt on (the seatbelt law was new at the time... but he alwaus wears his belt anyway). The officer immediately made my brother get out of the car so he could search it. He handcuffed my bro and sat him on the sidewalk. By the way, he was on his way home from school at the time. The cop found nothing (of course), and told him to go. My brother asked for his badge number.... and he said "no" and put his hand over his badge, went back to his car and drove off.

I was pretty fucking angry. I don't like it when people mess with my big brother. My dad was pretty pissed too, and my mom immediately got on the phone with the PD to try and figure out who that asshole was. In general, I like cops; they've always been great to me. I just don't like the ones that hide behind things with their little radar... or the ones that fuck with my brother.

Are you very protective of your family members (or friends that you basically consider family)? Any one in particular? Do you have any fun stories to illustrate your protectiveness?

I'm very protective of my brothers. The year before last, my brother was having trouble with another kid in his year who kept picking on him. I heard that this kid had been picking a fight one lunchtime at school and me and some of my friends went to find out what was going on, when I saw this kid he laughed at me so I grabbed him by his blazer and lifted him off the floor. The kid was a little shit and the look of terror on his face was utterly brilliant.

when you were younger, did you have any imaginary friends? what were they like?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Eris on 28 Jul 2007, 04:07
My imaginary friends were my hands (My feet were their pet dogs), a tree that was an elephant (pink and black and white), and I had a cat and a dog that lived on my hands also. They were fun, and I miss having imaginary friends at times. I was so sad when we moved away from that tree/elephant.

Edit! The hand-people and their feet-dogs were my brother's imaginary friends, actually. I got confused because it was so long ago. The dogs were Migdalig and Ralph!

Lately I've been listening to the new Ignite album and so far my favourite tracks are Poverty For All, Fear is Our Tradition and their cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday. I've also been listening to Back in Your Head by Tegan & Sara over and over again because I absolutely love this song and I need to buy their new album.

What are you like with your money? For instance I am having a lot of trouble resisting buying the above album and the new Harry Potter book as I have no money to spare on things I like for the next few weeks. Do you often have this same problem?

Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Elizzybeth on 29 Jul 2007, 14:46
I was raised with an extreme distrust of religion--both my parents were raised Catholic and later rejected it in favor of Unitarian Universalist and Quaker churches, neither of which they attended with any frequency or particular devotion.  I have come to believe that faith can be an enriching, important, even integral aspect of life for some people, and I respect that.  I, however, cannot seem to really believe anything.

That said, I'm currently on my first trip to Europe; I went to mass at Notre Dame this evening, and it was gorgeous.

I watched Hostel the other day with high expectations - it being referred to as the most gory film of all time - and was very disappointed. It was possibly the most ridiculous film of all time.. I take my games seriously. *coughs*

Anyway, I have seen them at my local little store that has food and candies and such from Canada, Australia, India, and the UK (they have Irn Bru, Bisto, and Mackintosh, for example). Those stores rarely have a website, so they're impossible to find unless you go into one or talk to folks in your area (I found mine because my Scottish friend's dad had to make a weekly run there to get his fixes... our's doesn't stock chocolate in the summer months (if there's any, it's more expensive), though, because foreign chocolate doesn't have wax in it, so it melts more easily. Other than that, I'd try ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/TIM-TAMS-Tim-Tam-CHOCOLATE-BISCUITS-Australian-Food_W0QQitemZ230122062198QQihZ013QQcategoryZ43401QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem)... I know, that one's in Canada, but it's the best I could do on short notice.

There was a while there were Nestle was trying to change the definition chocolate here in the US so that it didn't actually have to contain cocoa.

Consumer outrage lead to the government shooting that idea down.
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 30 Jul 2007, 14:50
Yeah, Mackintosh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackintosh's_Toffee). Commercials encourage you to "give your Mack a smack!" The toffee is inside plastic wrap inside little cardboard boxes about the size of a deck of cards, and about half an inch thick. You slam them flat on a hard surface, and it breaks it up into pieces. It's fun.

Yeah... wax is pretty common. They use other weird things too, though, and they hide the names well. Have you ever seen a hershey's chocolate bar that has melted and re-hardened? It looks funky and tastes different. Now, have you ever seen other chocolate that's melted and re-hardened (like Dove chocolates)? It looks like chocolate... it's just in a different shape. Also, it tastes the same.

I have tried two types of Hershey's chocolate over the years, one brought back from America by my Dad (just a plain chocolate bar) and one I bought in a shop over here recently (white chocolate with oreo style cookie pieces) and I found both to be disgusting to the point of inedibilty. Do you get really distressed when you see a brand you like carried by Walmart, because they've sold out to the devil, or really excited because now you can get it for hella cheap and easily?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: 0bsessions on 03 Aug 2007, 06:43
I'm utterly indifferent. I mean, the idea of a brand name "selling out" is entirely contradictory. A band may be in it for the music or an actor may be all about the art form, but a brand name is just a brand name. It's out there to move product. If it were about anything else, it would be nameless. A brand name is about the most corporate thing one can adopt.

I don't see me sacrificing myself to save people, so it'd probably matter more the quality of the people than the quantity. If it was my family or something, then yeah, absolutely. random passers-by? not likely unless it hit like four digits. I mean, this is my LIFE we're talking about here! I only have one of those!

What do you like best, shoes or boots? For our purposes, anything that just covers the foot is a "shoe" and anything that goes above the ankle is a "boot". I realize that this makes hi-tops a boot, but who wears those anymore?

I'm making meatloaf for dinner. I have three options for the sides: corn on the cob and mashed potatoes, green beans and mashed potatoes, or corn on the cob and green beans. To my the corn and potatoes is way too starchy, but both corn and mashed potatoes go very good with meatloaf. Whcih should I choose?

Also, what do you put on top of your meatloaf. We normally put ketchup on ours, but I've heard of some other toppings. A guy I dated put cream of mushroom soup on his, my best friend puts barbecue sauce on hers. What do you like on yours?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Caiphana on 06 Aug 2007, 17:28
I always have corn and mashed potatoes with meatloaf, and that's the way I like it. I always take the corn off the cob, though, because I like having a bite of potatoes with corn and meatloaf all together. I like catsup with meatloaf, but I don't pour it on top, I just dip each bite in. I think it tastes better that way. It's good with worcestershire sauce poured on top (I stick it with a fork so that it sinks in better), and I also like it dipped in A-1 sauce.

Meatloaf is just good in general.

Nothing they could do as I was technically the oldest (I say technically as I'm the middle, but my older sister is severely mentally challenged, so I've always been the most mentally mature one). I was also, allegedly, a very quiet baby according to my parents.

I did, however, accidentally break or fracture my little brother's fingers once. I was trying to close a cabinet and hadn't noticed he had his fingers in there. I kept trying to close it and he, like myself, was a quiet baby so he didn't cry out when I smashed his fingers. I was about three at the time. That said, what's the most physically damaging thing you've ever done to someone, intentionally or unintentionally?

The Good Shepherd. The most boring, pointless, emotionless, painful movie I've ever sat through.

Do you think your life would have been better with more or less siblings? Why?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: camelpimp on 07 Aug 2007, 19:15
On more siblings: hell no. I would be nice for once to be an older sibling, but honestly one siblings is enough hassle. That being said, I couldn't imagine life without my older sister. I can definitely say it wouldn't be an improvement.

What's your all-time favorite video game?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: pen on 08 Aug 2007, 18:54
i've played lots from duckhunt to final fantasy, sims to world of warcraft, and i have to say that my all time favorite is probably frogger.  there's just something about crossing multiple lanes of trucks, alligators, other things to eat me that i just find amusing.  *shrug*

then again, i may just be fascinated by frogs and toads.  i do enjoy them very much, though they can get loud.  i had a couple toads once, and they'd wake me up when they were fornicating.  it was funny and disturbing at the same time.  mostly funny though.  what's something disturbing your pet has done that you couldn't stop laughing at?

Skipping a dentist appointment to see my friends for the last time in 2 weeks. Good idea, yes or no? Why? Have you done something similar but more interesting?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: anij on 09 Aug 2007, 14:26
I suppose that depends on you point of view. I hate dentists. Lousy teeth voodoo. I'd skip it but then I never really had any problems with my teeth. I skipped many appointments and I doubt if they'd be interesting pe se. Unless you count the time I skipped the appointment and went for a movie. Or the time I skipped for no reason at all except for the fact that I didn't feel like letting that old geezer stick his gloves in my mouth. Gluck.

Why is chinese food so light? And why is bush still the president of the 'States? It boggles my mind.
Title: Re: The Random Question Game

Chinese food is pretty heavy, particularly compared to Japanese and Korean food. I've heard stories of Japanese and Korean exchange students who would only eat fruit because eating native Chinese food would make them gain weight. And most American Chinese food is greasy and nasty.

And Bush is still president because people are stupid.

Why are people stupid?

Title: Re: The Random Question Game

my initial thought is that you should be fine after a couple weeks, after it's scabbed and gone through all of that healing.  of course, i had to look it up for good measure.  2 weeks is the minimum, and depending on the level of chlorination in a pool, you could be talking a couple months.  (http://tattoo.about.com/b/a/186401.htm)

how long does it take you to shower, get dressed, and any other grooming you may need to do in the morning? what is your routine?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game

About an hour or less. I drag myself out of bed, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, shower, get dressed, dry hair, and do hair or makeup if I feel like it (lately I haven't because it's too freaking hot). I'm not OCD or anything, but I feel weird when I have to do something out of order, unless it's switching teeth brushing and showering.

whichever is on sale.  i used to be all about the crest "expressions" and then i realized i was paying far too much to make my mouth taste like cinnamon.  i do love it, though.  what i DON'T like is peppermint.  i don't know what it is, but it bother me a lot.

what are your feelings on mint, in general?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: Emaline on 10 Aug 2007, 12:53
Fresh chopped mint is a good herb to add to a number of things. It's a nice surprising flavor. I used to buy mint leaves at a local farmers market to add to almost anything. It's a pretty good herb.

I love my job. It's awesome. I work at Subway. Everyone gets along great, and it's lots of fun. The only problem is my hands smell like sandwiches all the time. Even if I super wash them. Do you suppose all my clothes smell like sandwiches now? And have you ever had a job you really liked?
Title: Re: The Random Question Game
Post by: KibBen on 10 Aug 2007, 15:30
They very probably do, actually. Here's how you get the smell out though: Wash your hands with vinegar, and then with soap and water. The vinegar smell doesn't stick around, but it gets rid of the sandwich smell! Same goes for your clothing. Instead of fabric softener, add about 125ml (1/2 cup) into your wash. It actually does make your clothing soft, AND it gets rid of most odours! Also very good for tobacco smells, by the way.
I really liked my last job. Reception at a very small private college that did financial and insurance training. But, sadly, the office was moving and it was too far to be practical. Unemployment isn't very fun, though.

When it's squishy and not at all appetizing, actually. I peel and cut it into chunks atop a cookie sheet and into the freezer it goes. Then they go into smoothies. Delicious. They're sweeter when you let them get all nasty like that. Just has to be hard enough to still be able to slice up a bit.

What weird things did you believe when you were little? (I'm talking stuff like thinking all cats are girls and all dogs are boys, how you thought electricity worked, that sort of thing). Details would be fun.

I would say around 24-36 hours. International travel. That's not that long (well, it is for ME because I'm usually pretty good about getting SOME sleep) but I swear at that point of sleep-deprivation I was already seeing things. Or maybe China is weird.
