Again with the hyperbole; I don't know if this is the strangest video game EVER created, but it's the strangest one I've ever seen. The best description I can come up with is that it's like someone took House of Leaves and OK Computer, combined them, and turned it into an interactive Flash app.

-
I personally think it has to be Rainbow Islands, that game is wack!
Also thats really fucked up.
-
I think the Karaoke Revolution style Marley and Marley: The Video Game has to be the strangest I've seen.
-
Hiding, hiding beneath the frozen pudding.
-
This game was beautiful art. But some parts did feel a little contrived. The Buddhist level stuck in a loop was funny, though.
I think the GI Joe game for Atari was plenty strange. Be a Giant Cobra... makes absolute bloody sense until it doesn't.
-
http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4530-Cat_With_Bow_Golf.html (http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4530-Cat_With_Bow_Golf.html)
Archery, Golf, Cats.
A winning combination.
My best score is -28.
-
Oh my god. Cat with Bow Golf is genius.
Best score I can get is -3. How do you get more?
-
I got -31.
-
WOO HIGH SCORE
I got +27.
-
I was bored so I decided to get a +1905.
-
any of the transformers games for the Atari, or Custard's Revenge
oh, and I got + 11
EDIT: just got -34
-
Ah, you actually have to finish it. I got -22.
-
Now Custer's revenge, you can somewhat understand. Bigotted game + rape fantasy fulfillment for some derelicts.... but that it had sequels and pirated knock offs, THAT I think is the strange part.
-
Just played Cat With Bow Golf again. Beat -36.
-
Anyone heard of Grow Cube? I think that's what it's called. It's an online game, and it's quite cracky!
-
Grow Cube and it's sequels are beautiful works of art. The author also has some other very odd games.
-
I'm exploring the grow cube website, upon your recommendation Some of these games are lovely, particularly GROW v.1 which makes me smile :-D I have it on in the background right now just for the gleeful music. Today was a good day. I also tryed the game this thread is actually about, seems a little pointless and random but hey, who am i to judge?
-
Cho Aniki.
Just go play it.
It's fun!
-
http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4524-Crazy_Mammoth_Race.html (http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4524-Crazy_Mammoth_Race.html)
Is also pretty whack.
-
Psychonauts anyone?
-
Killer 7 allmost all of the chariters in the game are split personalties of an old man in a weel chair, and you fight invisible suiside bombers
Awsome game though I highly recomend it.
-
Please log off the internets, for you have failed them.
-
Wow, that was strange lol. Poor charley
-

I wanted SO bad to like killer7, I tried so hard to love that game. But, a rail shooter? Come on shelly. COME ON!
-
playing that game was like looking at the world through the eyes of Leo from that 70's Show. No wonder why the guys so trippy all the time!
-
What's wrong with Rail Shooters? House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, and several other titles were fucking awesome even without the arcade lightgun.
Of course then you have shittacular games like RE: Dead Aim.
-
RapeLay, the Japanese hentai game where your sole objective is to rape many innocent women.
http://www.somethingawful.com/d/hentai-game-reviews/rapelay.php (http://www.somethingawful.com/d/hentai-game-reviews/rapelay.php)
Beat that.
-
Seriously? A rape sim? I shouden't be suprised that a game like that existis in Japan but still wow.
-
damn, that first game fucks my eyes o_O
the hentai-game is just scaring....
-
Not sure if you've seen this game but... http://www.arcadecabin.com/play/cursor_game.html
My best score is 4567

Packy and Marlon
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/g/super_nintendo/packy_and_marlon/overview.php (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/g/super_nintendo/packy_and_marlon/overview.php)
Packy and Marlon Special Features:
• Play as two elephants
• Recover stolen food
• Check blood glucose levels
• Take insulin
• Shoot the bad guys with water and peanuts
My brother, who is diabetic, got this game for free from his doctor. Whoo.
-
Captain Novolin is clearly the superior diabetic game.
-
Why isn't there a Mac version? I am sad about that.
My contribution: Areas. (http://www.kongregate.com/games/Ridiculous/areas) It might be the most oddly and simplistically interesting game I've ever played, but I'm still on the fence.
Fixed your link. What an odd game, I like the music. - Ally
-
Wizzard, I find it incredibly unsettling when you don't see Ally, but she appears on your posts.
Please prevent this from happening, it creeps me out. And by out, I mean that it's so creepy that I'm leaving this room for a bit.
-
It might not be the weirdest game in terms of gameplay, but god damn, when it comes to psychedelia I'm fairly sure you've never played anything quite like it. (http://www.spheresofchaos.com/)
Damn near gave me a flashback. Fuck.
-
I have a lot of fun with this Powder Game (http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/).
-
This strange Japanese game called "I Am The Chef." I got it on a Playstation Underground demo disc many years ago, and lost it equally as long ago..but the few times that I played it..wow. I was dumbstruck. You would be serving people beer or soup one moment, then chasing a stick figure through some back alley a moment later. Truly bizarre.
-
guys Pac Man is goddamned weird
-
I got you beat, Jeph. (http://pac-txt.com/)
-
+8 on Cat With Bow Golf. That was actually pretty fun!
-
http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4530-Cat_With_Bow_Golf.html (http://www.buzzedgames.com/play-4530-Cat_With_Bow_Golf.html)
Archery, Golf, Cats.
A winning combination.
My best score is -28.
-18 but with one hole I messed up on and got +16 on... I can do better...
Oh wow it's 6 am...
...
...
I hate you.
-
It's a tie between Psychonauts, American McGee's Alice (creepiest damn game EVER), and the co-op for Psi-Ops. It involved one person controlling movement and the other controlling firing weapons, switching weapons, and using powers. It was actually pretty cool.
Oh, and Pac-Txt, cool at first, but it gets boring after eating about two dots.
And if you're gonna go into Hentai Games, X-play did a special on them once. There was one titled "Do You Like Horny Bunnies" and for some reason was about librarians. Also, tentacle rape. Lots and lots of tentacle rape.
-
I didn't really find Alice all that creepy. It tried so hard to be creepy and scary that it just came across kinda... sad. There are a lot creepier games out there (Yeah, yeah, System Shock, we all know). In my opinion for Creepiest Game (especially the premise behind it), check out an old Infocom game by the name of Suspended (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspended). The only game I know of that is literally IMPOSSIBLE to win your first time through without cheating.
-
I got -33 on the cat-bow game my first try. Fun, but not very difficult.
As for strangest video game, has anyone mentioned Typing Of The Dead yet? You shoot zombies in the face by typing words that appear above them as fast as possible.
-
Bad Mojo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Mojo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Mojo)
-
Damn. That first one hurt my mind's eye as much as Paper Rad.
-
Pacman created a generation that enjoys listening to repetative techno music, munching pills, and running from ghosts.
If only the put more of an emphasis on the fruit.
-
So, another entry in the IGF awards recently recieved the demo treatment, Audiosurf. Take Guitar Hero, Bejeweled, and DDR, and this is what you get. You pick a song on your hard drive (I think it allows mp3, ogg, m4a, and wma), and it scans it through the engine, and creates a track you travel on. You collect little colored blobs, and if you get three or more together, you collect points (5 different colors and point values). There are also powerups that change colors of current pieces, special chameleon blocks, ships that give you special abilities. At the end of it all, you can opt to upload your points to a regional database and see how well you scored compared to other people who played the same song. At the moment, it's limited to 3 plays when you first download it and an additional play when it's updated, and it doesn't do songs over 12 minutes long yet (it's still in beta). But it's a lot of fun.

Cho Aniki.
Just go play it.
It's fun!
sacred protein!
-
http://gamedata.box.sk/_extra/syobon-action.zip
Syobon Action. It's a mario rip-off in japanese, and the first level is legendary in its unfair difficulty. In many ways, it's funner to watch someone else play than play yourself.
-
the first level isnt difficult, its impossible
i mean that
just get to the end
i dont know if its just badly programmed or what, but the only thing missing to make this the shittiest game ever made is a time limit
-
Nah, see, at the end of the level, the object is to jump over the pole, but then you have to jump onto the pole from the other side. If you just keep going it traps you and you have to kill yourself.
It's a brilliant game.
-
Blue Ice
This game is impossible. The game itself is so rediculously hard, that words can barely describe it.
It's an old point and clicker that you basically have series of puzzles and whatnot. Think you're doing good? Well, entire puzzles and riddles are simply red herrings. For years and years there was NO ACTUAL ENDING. See, it was made for a contest with prizes. Well, the fact is, people would have just hacked to the end, so he never put one in! I say for years and years because he finally walked players through to get to the end just recently, so in essence there is now an END, just not an ending.
But the whole game, besides it's awesome mind bending weirdness, toughness, and borderline incompleteness has a really cool feel to it. If you have a phd in cryptography, I highly suggest you give it a shot without a guide. I believe you will also need about a decade of free time as well.
-
Super Kaizo Brothers!
Its Super Mario World on every preformance enhancing drug possible, and then some. God, I love it.
-
my friend once bought a game called Okami for the N64 (I think)
it's described as "a unique combination of Real-Time strategy and pinball" It may sound interesting but it's a horrible game that still has us in fits of laughter. We believe it was made for our amusement.
-
it was for the cube. I remember hearing about it and laughing.
-
That's Odama.
-
I still love the concept of that game, even if the controls turned out shitty.
-
Yeah, Okami is quite a bit different from Odama.
And quite a bit better. Probably the best game that came out for PS2 last year.
It's a sort of Zelda-esque game.
-
You want a ridiculously hard game? Play I Wanna Be the Guy: The Movie: The Game.
It's worth it just for the Castlevania sequence, where The Kid does the intro to Symphony of the Night with Dracula.
It's hilarious and even more fun to watch as the player of the game slowly has his sanity worn away by the difficulty of the challenge.
-
That's right. it's Odama and not Okami. I even own okami! my bad

that sir does not sound strange....that sounds awesome.

-
Strangest, not shittiest.
-
It was still ridiculously strange, the strangeness just happened to be eclipsed by the shittiness.
-
Yeah....it was Shaq fighting in a martial arts tournement in another dimention. That alone is strange.
Or Drug induced. That's what I'm betting on.
-
Neverhood was a pretty strange game, especially the room with all the text about the Neverhood-universe.

I am going to revive this thread because nobody has mentioned eternal darkness.. that sanity meter is.. well insane..

I still remember that travesty. Fun times.

A search for "Panic!" turns up nothing in this thread.
This must be rectified immediately.

Have we talked about Off-Road Velociraptor Safari? (http://raptorsafari.com/)
-
There was a game a friend of mine had for the SNES, Packy and Marlon, where the objective of the game was to regulate their glucose level as they adventure through a forest. The fact that they made a videogame based on diabetes that starred two goofball elephants still baffles me.
Earthbound is pretty strange too, which is probably why it rocks so much. Such a unique and creative role playing game possibly saw such success due to it's peculiar charm.

THIS:

Thread over.
(Also, other notables:
Chou Aniki
Tengai Makyou
Hell, Moonwalker and Space Channel 5 ought to get honorable mentions as well!)

:(
Eww.
I am going to go take a molten hot shower to burn off how dirty I feel that I actually know what that game is.
-
Apparently the only proper way to play it is to sing along Tiny Tim songs (in falsetto, of course).
"I'm right here to stay till I'm old and gray..."
