You're Pitiful (http://media.thechrispirilloshow.com/mp3/yourepitiful.mp3)

Dilemma: while I approve of Weird Al and of this particular parody, by necessity it reminded me of The Song That Shall Not Be Named, the existence of which I had blissfully forgotten about until I opened this thread.
Ultimately, upon reflection I have decided that I would rather forget than laugh. Disgruntled!
-
I say it is now much better. That song gives me the giggles.
-
This is the second song I've heard off of his new album and both of them have been pretty damn funny. The lyrics just seem a bit more malicious but, maybe it's just me.
-
Apparently Weird Al is a real good time live. And has roadies. I wasn't inclined to believe that at first, but I've heard it from a few people who've been to his shows now.
-
I saw him live on his Running with Scissors tour way back when. He does put on a really good show.
-
I don't get it. Who's he parody-ing?
-
Oh man oh man you are so lucky to have never heard that song
-
I'd heard the song but I didn't know it was by James Cunt.
-
My first "concert" ever was Weird Al, off the Bad Hair Day Tour. The performance was great, tons of costume changes and ridiculous crap going on onstage.
-
I had the chance to see him at the Red River Valley Fair, but I forgot to ask for the night off from work and couldn't get anyone to take my shift.
Upon listening to that I am more saddened.
-
OK, Weird Al Rocks. I like the night Santa Went Crazy
Of which there is a link, but I don't know or care how to add it to this reply.
Ok, adding to my randomness I actually liked the tune to 'your beautiful', and the drums and guitar work well as backing, but the lyrics were so awfully soppy. I like LOTs of types of music. But anyway...
This is so cruelly mean, but good.

I don't get it.
I guess I've never heard the original song. Even if I had, I don't really like the lyrics to it. Just a bunch of generic playground insults ("sucks to be you", "grow a clue", "live with your mom", etc).
It's okay, I don't think it's nearly as catchy as "White and Nerdy".
The thing about Weird Al is that every couple years he somehow manages to do a song or album that is genuinely good, despite the fact that I should have gotten sick of him somewhere around the album where he made fun of Nirvana.

At one point in my life, I could recite that entire epic piece of literature.
I am not ashamed to admit it.

If you're not religious you should be. That is a clear indication of God raining blessings upon you.

I love the night santa when crasy

actually I know one other person who can do that, and hes proud as well
Running with scissors was the album that got me into mps as well as limewire i guess i have Weird al to thank for starting my life of "Crime" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eAr7zKxjCDY)

You're into the Military Police?
Also, is it unusual to have roadies now?
-
I guess I've never heard the original song either. :?

This one's not on the album, actually. Apparently the owners of the original song have no sense of humour, and wouldn't allow the parody version to be commercially released.
I back this statement with a link to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27re_Pitiful

it's beautiful.
i felt it had to be done

Wow, I've never even heard the named "James Blunt" before.
I live in my own little pop-culture bubble. PJ Harvey is the bartender and Nick Cave is the house band, and Conor Oberst is always spilling drinks on underage girls.

If I remember, James Blunt liked it, but the execs didn't, so it wasn't put on the album.
This has been around for a while though, if I'm not mistaken.

At least since September.
When I saw him live, he claimed he had written a new theme for Home Improvement and it was a parody of the Friend's theme, with lyrics to the notion of "I'll repair for you." I never saw that one released either, and at the time I was quite a superfan.

I think a good number of us on the forums have this problem. I'm still insanely shocked when I discover that a band I thought was really popular is almost unheard of.
While I wouldn't listen to Weird Al given the choice, he can be very witty. Unfortunately, by the time his albums get released, his jokes are old. Still, he is an incredibly talented vocalist. His original compositions are far funnier than his parodies, and usually timeless.
-
Was it just the double meaning of "gas" that was your joke, or what? 'cuz that's kinda lame, if it's what I think it is just that.
-
The genius of Weird Al is that he doesn't just write a funny song that has the same melody as the original. It also has the same rhyme structure, and much of the time uses the same phonemes. He parodies specific lines from the original, twists them, and again rhymes them the same way, resulting in numerous "punch lines" throughout the song. Sometimes the parody song has nothing to do with the original ("The Saga Begins" <--> "American Pie") but often, as with this example ("You're Beautiful" <--> "You're Pitiful") he directly attacks the original.
And best of all, he's gotten better at making his version just plain sound like the original. Production sounds similar, instruments have basically the same sound, even his voice somehow sounds "Bluntish" here, or maybe it's just the way he sings. Probably both.
I have every Weird Al album, in full, on my iPod. I don't care that the idiots at AMG say his target audience is 13-year-old boys; I think the guy's a true genius and I love his work.
-
Actually, I think he is probably holding back a little with his singing on this track. He could sound a lot more like James Blunt than that, I'm sure.
-
Weird Al is hilarious, whenever he doesn't sing about food. Which is in 20% of his songs.
To Aaaaaaaaaalbuquerque!!!!
