Title: Rock Band
Post by: Ozymandias on 06 Nov 2007, 15:40
The website has been updated with a shitload of stuff. (http://www.rockband.com/)

Guitar Hero 3 seems so bland after watching some of those videos.

Two weeks!

They have demos of guitar / drum up at Best Buys now. The UI isn't as flashy as Guitar Hero's but the animation looked a lot better (actual lip-synching yay) and the drums were obviously pretty fun to use.

I think in terms of feature set and whatnot Rock Band is a much more attractive package, but I have 3 problems:

A) Cost. 170 dollars as a fucking lot for one game, no matter how you look at what you're getting.
B) Setlist. It just isn't very good. I know that the DLC will offer tons of new songs, but it goes without saying that you'll have to pay for it. Having to pay for songs because they couldn't get good ones on the disc sort of irritates me.
C) Space. I live in a cramped dorm room already, I have no idea where I'd fit all this shit.

Honestly, there are enough other games out there I'll probably just skip them both and make my decision as to which, if either, I'll get over the summer when there are no games coming out again.

Yeah, I like the set list for Guitar Hero III a lot better.  But Rock Band's gameplay looks far more interesting.

I'd get this just for "My Sharona".

Actually, though, a real guitar is just $20 more expensive, and I have a drum set.  I would also need a console to play it on.  So, no.

Zomg. It's so much fun to play at Best buy. Even the vocal-portion works really well, which I didn't expect. The guitar is all wonky though, but I'll just use my GH guitar instead. And the drums are SO MUCH FUN. Especially if you're a drummer (which my g/f is). I have a feeling she's going to put it on her christmas list, which gives me a really sweet excuse to buy it.

I'd rather spend $100 for Guitar Hero III, and I'd probably enjoy it more too.

I heard the demo guitars are kinda crap because they're pre-release demo/prototype guitars. Apparently the guitars that ship with the game are of much higher quality. Although I suppose it will take some time to get used to the buttons on the guitar.

Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Beren on 21 Nov 2007, 02:33
Zomg is Rock Band awesome. The drums work perfectly. The bass and guitar parts are almost exactly GH3 with sort of better songs. (well, it's close)

Unfortunately, the vocal portion doesn't work at all. If you sing, you lose. If you hum very loudly throughout the song, you win.

I'm so sad right now. I finally set up my Rock Band set today and my neighbor got angry at me because he can hear the drumming through the floor. I'm not sure what to do prevent the transmission of drum noises through the floor!

Title: Re: Rock Band

I'm sort of using the coffee table as a riser, but I think I'm gonna need something soft in between. Also, the pedal still needs to go on the floor.

I'm solving this problem for the time being by playing in my friend's concrete apartment.

I have had no difficulty with the vocal portion. The only issue that I take with the game is that I have sung "In Bloom" more times than Kurt Colbain himself before he offed himself.

Yeah, the singing mechanic seems to work fine for me, too. I do notice that it doesn't handle low registers very well.

The karaoke technology is more mature than the guitar or drum technology.

My father plays guitar, as in real guitar, and I honestly think he'd murder me if I spend the inordinate amount of money required to buy either Guitar Hero or Rock Band. He'd bash my head in with the Guitar Hero controller while I sleep. I think he'd enjoy the appropriateness and the closure the murder weapon provides.

Well, see the thing is, not everyone is skilled or talented enough to be able to play a repertoire of 59 rockin' songs with more songs added every week right off the bat.

Also, everyone hates you when you pick up a real guitar at a party and start playing Weezer. (usually)

Finally, somebody gets it.

The only time the two come into conflict are with the people who think that guitar hero counts as playing a real guitar.  It is not.

This, however, does not distract from its rawk factor.

I love this game.

Me and my friend want some Breaking Benjamin in it though. The 360 version of GH3 got the Halo theme, Rock Band should get Blow me Away.

Also, there needs to be more ballads. The drum parts would (probably) suck, but get a power ballad going at a party, and I imagine good times to be had, what with the lighters, and possible flashing, pending on how much alcohol is consumed.

I'm also kinda pissed (though barely) that the track listing doesn't take into consideration your "attitude" (metal, rock, punk, so on and so forth) My guys were metal, therefore, they would not sing/play fallout boy. Ever.

My brother and I played a bit with drums and guitar at a Best Buy today.  I really like the Stratocaster-esque controller.  It reminds me of the Squire I have at home.  Only it felt like I was going to break the controller where the neck met the body.  I thought it was awesome that there was  a second set of buttons on the highest frets too.  I thought it was for finger tapping.  But then decided that it was just for aesthetics, really.  So if you want to arse yourself to move your hand all the way up the neck to play a solo that sounds like it's way up on the fretboard, you could, and look like you're really doing it too.  Or, if you think you're funny, play the low notes on the high buttons, and the high ones near the headstock.

/rant (Sorry!  I'm tired!)

Anyways, it was fun.

Like anyone in their right mind, I desperately want this game, but it's just not worth the near 200 dollars. I bought myself Guitar Hero III as an early Christmas present and enjoy it immensely. Plus, from what I've seen and heard, the guitar parts for Rock Band are significantly dumbed down from what you'd find in Guitar Hero and can be downright boring at times.

man i hate guitar hero. not because it's bad but because i can't play it at all. i have bad blood circulation and very poor dexterity in my fingers and i just cannot move my fingers fast enough to play even the easiest song on the easiest difficulty. i can't even roll a fucking cigarette because my hands are so shaky. houses of cards are out of the question as well.

however, i play drums and would like to check out how the drums work for Rock Band. i hear good things.

Post by: Thy Dungeonman on 11 Dec 2007, 21:52
I finally played it today. The guitar feels weird. As in, it would randomly miss notes, even though I know I hit them. I do like the shape of the strum bar now, because I can play bass like an actual bass.

The drums were fun, but I think I underestimated them by playing Hard on my first attempt.
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Blue Kitty on 11 Dec 2007, 23:36
thank god, I thought the randomly misssing notes thing was just me.  for what ever reason I failed that Jet song not half way through, then again it just could be that it was the guitar on display at Best Buy
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Thy Dungeonman on 12 Dec 2007, 07:25
I never played the Best Buy displays, but I should try it, because the retail version doesn't feel very "solid" compared to the GHIII wireless.

If the GHIII controller had the Rock Band strum bar, it would be perfect. Maybe I could mod it or something, but I was never really good at that kind of thing.

Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: pilsner on 26 Dec 2007, 09:11
I've been playing this since release and am loving it.  The game is very polished on world tour mode (the solo is practically non-existent but who cares), although there are some glaring design flaws in the peripherals -- as you're probably aware if you've been reading a video game blog over the past three months.

My drum pedal snapped at the spring within a week.  I can virtually guaranty this will happen within a year to at least one of two people who buy this product until they fix the incredibly stupid design of the pedal that puts virtually no reinforcement over the part of the plastic pedal that takes the most pressure.  Happily, I have a drill and am not completely useless with it, so I reinforced the pedal myself with metal braces screwed to the top of the pedal (following instructions off the internet, natch) and it now feels and plays better than before it broke.  The incredible thing here is that prior to fixing it myself I had the company send me a replacement and the replacement piece has exactly the same design.  I mean, Harmonix, baby, we're talking about two pieces of metal worth about 3 cents attached to the bottom of your freaking pedal.  It's not rocket science.  The fact that they made the drum heads so well and then screwed the pootch so horribly on something so simple is almost funny.

As for song selection, I agree about the repetitiveness of the beginning songs (In Bloom, Creep, Train Keeps on Rolling, etc.) but once you get out of New York you rarely hear them again and you get to lose again and again on The New Pornogapher's Electric Version (am I the only person who finds this song somewhat challenging?  It doesn't sound challenging, what the hell?)  My brother has already emailed Arts & Crafts and Harmonix demanding Broken Social Scene, and apparently someone from A&C emailed back saying they'd love to.  The ball is in your court, Harmonix.

Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Thy Dungeonman on 07 Jan 2008, 11:35
I've already gotten used to the hammer-ons. Just look for the smaller notes. It can't be that much harder than looking for the absence of a tiny black circle via Guitar Hero.

But I understand the problem with the guitar itself, seeing as it malfunctions 5 out of every 4 times.

So I spent pretty much all of my Christmas break playing this after I convinced my family to buy it for my brothers.

I am now in withdrawal back at college.

Our first guitar stopped working (even with cracking it open and fixing it), and we got a new one delivered that seemed to work pretty well for the few days I got to use it before I had to leave.

Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints!  Pretty much all of my friends (very few of whom are gamers, or know anything about gaming at all) enjoyed the hell out of it, particularly the drums and singing.  It is a wonderful game, and I am eager to see what impact it may have in the long-term.

My friend and I both got a Rock Band set each at launch and we haven't had any issues with breakage so far.

I didn't like the Rock Band guitar at first, either, but it's grown on me such that I prefer to use it over either of my Guitar Hero guitars (the Flying V from II and the Les Paul wireless from III). It just takes less work to push the buttons and move back and forth--a crossover from my actual guitar lessons, you will be more accurate and enduring if you have a light touch. I also feel like the strum bar is more natural feeling.

Also: I beat Hard on drums this week! Expert has me bogged down at that damn Fallout Boy song.

Also, they should release some sort of mini-sequels for PS2 that just include several download packs.  I can accept that they don't support the hdd (I didn't even know the ps2 had one until a few weeks ago), but come on.  Don't punish me for not being willing to drop $400 or more on a system I don't like.

So here is my experience with Rock Band.

I played demos in 3 different stores and every one, (despite me re-calibrating them from the menu) was off by half a beat.
I then played it at a friends house after release.
The vocals are too linear and don't allow you to add anything in there.
The guitar feels HORRIBLE I tried the original guitar with it for a while before I just plugged in a Guitar Hero controller.

Not to mention the poorly made drums and guitars that I have seen being sent back for replacements on a fairly regular basis.
I love the team that made this game but I think they rushed it a little too much.

Great song list
Great Idea.

Maybe 2 will be worth the $170 price tag.
Going back to my GH3 now.. The foo fighters pack makes me happy.
Title: Re: Rock Band

Man Guitar Hero III is pretty awful. I am sorry to say but I actually really hate it.

Equipment-wise, you're right in that the first run of equipment had a pretty hard failure rate. The guitar feels natural and a bit more like an actual guitar, though, and the vocals are about the same in that respect as any karaoke game. They're still pretty fun though - see: "Sabotage."

I cannot possibly go back to GH3. God, that is a terrible game now that I've played Rock Band. Unambitious and just....off.

The new guitar I've gotten used to. It's way easier to strum. The drums I just suck at, but my drummer enjoys them. The singing is...uh, I don't know what else you'd expect. It's actually really fun to improvise, actually. The only complaint I have in the radio-friendly editing, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make.

I just downloaded Interstate Love Song, Wonderwall, and War Pigs. All of them I heck of enjoy on guitar.
Title: Re: Rock Band

I've gotten pretty used to the Rock Band guitar.  It was/is my biggest complaint though, as it seems to be for a lot of people.  The thing that annoys me the most about it is that it is far too sensitive as far as the overdrive is concerned.  I have to stand rediculously still or risk setting it off at the wrong moment...and even sometimes that doesn't work.

Does anyone have the PS3 version?  I'm fairly curious how the plugs work.  I have a 40 gig and with only two USBs, it does raise the question of getting three people in on the action.

You'd think it would, but it doesn't.  In fact a seperate "rock band" USB hub is sold.  Did you get yours as part of an added package?  'cause it's not listed as containing a hub in either version.

Ha. Mine is not sensitive enough! I have to throw it around for a few seconds before I can make the sensor go off.

I pretty much use the select button anyway. It's well placed and more precise.

Equipment-wise, you're right in that the first run of equipment had a pretty hard failure rate. The guitar feels natural and a bit more like an actual guitar, though, and the vocals are about the same in that respect as any karaoke game. They're still pretty fun though - see: "Sabotage."
I have a release-day version and all my equipment is fine (except for the wonky tilt-sensor I mentioned). My drums are holding up remarkably well. I did buy new sticks because the original pair were getting warped from sweat.

i love rock band.

not just cuz i'm good at it either. (stuck on guitar expert green grass and high tides....80% RAWR)

but because it makes me want to learn to play real guitar...real dirty rock guitar.

it makes me actually better at singing. (and more confident to sing louder) even though i was told i sounded like julie andrews singing sabotage after my 'bandmates' all had to stop playing becuase they were laughing too hard. fuckers. i can't help it that i am a little white girl who watched way too much mary poppins and sound of music....but i digress.

rock band is awesome.

oh and the strat is a way better controller than the GH controllers.

I hope they dont eff it up by adding too many gimmiky things like using the remotes as drumsticks on imaginary drums, cause that would be aweful.  Hopefully they just use the remotes for the guitars ala GH3.

I'm just at the point now where I can do all the drum songs (including all the downloaded ones which are somewhat harder) on medium.  It took me like 3 months to get here.  From this, I have deduced two things.  One, I suck at the drums.  Two, I don't care.

The PX (it's a Walmart for the Army, but with less things that you need) out here only sells the game, no guitars, drums, or microphones.  I'm stuck with just my Guitar Hero III controller and the Rock Band disc.  Is it just me, or does Guitar Hero/Rock Band always give you trouble with the songs you hate ("Train Kept A-Rolling" in my case)?
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: dennis on 06 Mar 2008, 03:57
Yeah, that's just the way it goes.

For example, I seem to be stuck on "Detroit Rock City" for expert vocals, and that's an AWFUL song. You miss a phrase and you lose like, half your meter.

"Dead on Arrival" expert drums, stuck for three weeks, awful song.

"Green Grass and High Tides" expert guitar, stuck for a month. Bad song, not awful, but sooo loong.  Finally beat that bitch. The trick is to just play the first three notes of those 4 note repeating patterns in Solo 2 J-M.

I'm stuck on "Don't Fear the Reaper" now for expert drums and it's not that song is bad, it's just that it's LOOOONG.

Oh Jesus lord is it ever not. Using the Guitar Hero guitar feels like I'm using a Fisher Price toy after having played with the Rock Band guitar.

Also, the Neversoft Guitar Heros are much harder, yeah, because it doesn't even feel like you're playing the songs anymore, just mashing buttons that kind of go along with the tune.

Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Chesire Cat on 26 Jul 2008, 13:14
Comparing the 2 is kind of fruitless.  I mean one is a group experience with singing and drums, the other is generally duelists game.  But I do like the guitar hero guitar way more than the Rockband's mushy buttoned one, but I enjoy Rockband so much more.  Frankly I do not see any inherit nobility in playing a Dragonforce on expert, just because its hard doesn't make it fun.  Rockband on the other hand has a way better selection of songs I actually *like*.  Me playing Maps on Drums is so fucking fun even if I can only do it on medium.

Yeah, so one of my friend's brought over Rock Band a couple days ago, and long story short I've played Rock Band 8 hours a day the past two days. Drums are a pretty decent workout, and I've been getting really into them. In fact, I feel so empowered that I really want to make real drums make real loud noise. I made my character a huge Native American Drummer. His name is Captain Kickass.

Post by: clockworkjames on 31 Jul 2008, 06:24
Okay this will apply few and far between but after the last LAN I went to over the weekend, there were 2 rockband kits that caused three of my LAN buddies to ragequit and go home leaving us 1 down for our team with half the LAN to go, we still won both the tourneys still to play but they didn't have much fun because of the constant tapping on drum skinsover the weekend.

This is one thing NOT to bring to a LAN event, along with stuff like speakers and small children.
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Chesire Cat on 31 Jul 2008, 10:02
Ragequit is for pussy non gamers.  We call it Tunesing Out, because the only person I know who would do that was Brad "Tunes" Turner.  Its because he would get beaten like 25/3 deaths in Halo 2/3 and freak out.  He also had a penchant for stoner noise association in lieu of actual conversation.   Like someone would say Joe Mantegna, he would say banana.  Fucking annoying
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Trollstormur on 01 Aug 2008, 02:48
they sell some pretty decent sound dampening sleeve things for the drums these days. otherwise, you can use the sockmod. (google it). it helps the heads recognize hits better, too and keeps you from double-tapping when you don't wanna.
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: clockworkjames on 01 Aug 2008, 04:10
It wasn't a game ragequit, we aren't the best of pals with the pricks that run that particular LAN but "tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap" gets kinda frustrating after a week solid, while the dicks doing it insisted it made no sound.

It has no place in a LAN to be honest, unless there is a separate room. I left guitar hero until everyone who didn't wanna play had gone to bed at i33 because I know how much "tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica tica" can piss people off. There is a time and a place for brutal honesty, likewise there is a time and a place for rockband and guitar hero.

(Oh but we did make one team ragequit the CS 1.6 tourney)

I think people who play real instruments are at a disadvantage when they try to play Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Because you can't handle the controller like a real guitar, it's based on matching colors instead of hearing sounds, and basically I find it boring compared to actually playing the guitar/bass. Except for the drums, I heard the drumming is pretty similar to playing a set of real electronic drums, and that if you can master the Rock Band tracks, you'd be good enough to play with the actual band itself. (I've never played Rock Band but I have played Guitar Hero, guitar and bass player here.)

Anyway when it comes to rhythm games it is ALL about Mad Maestro.
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: 0bsessions on 22 Aug 2008, 07:21
That's completely untrue outside of Guitar Hero 3. The problem I had with Guitar Hero 3 was that it lacked any real rhythm for a rhythm game.

I play guitar and that helped me pick up Guitar Hero (In its early stages) rather easily because I had a developed sense of rhythm. I mean, yeah, don't be expecting to pick up the game and master anything on hard, but actual guitar players or any musicians, really, are at an advantage, not a disadvantage.

I currently made a blog post on MySpaz about it, but anybody who doesn't have a MySpaz account - which is some of my Rock Band playing friends - can't read it, so it kinda defeats the point.

i think i've got the argument sorted for anyone who says GH/RB isn't real guitar: it resembles a one string bass designed for use by the hulk.
(meant for idiots who don't know the speed of the game and are looking for a quick insult)
no offense intended, i'm both a bassist and a fan of both games, but damn if it ain't true, not that it actually matters cos if you're playing to trick yourself into thinking your good at guitar then you're an idiot, though i know VERY few people like this, do they actually exist? not to mention when you're actually playing the resemblance stops, what with the ridiculous speeds unprecedented to bassists, (or at least shit ones like me  :-P)

DLC is starting to become an excessively expensive attraction to me. It's now pretty much what I blow my disposable income on each week after going out on a Friday night.

I'm hoping Harmonix will continue what appears to be a trend of migrating Guitar Hero tracks over to RB. Old GH tracks, I mean. I uh... I really want My Chemical Romance.

Also I bought Rock Band 2. It is Rock Band 1.5, which is all that needs to be said I guess. In short it is still awesome.

Frets on Fire basically just like rock band now if you set it up that way. It's so close, you can use your PS3 or 360 controllers with it too. Grab the alarian mod and the RB and RB2 and GH3 packs and you've got basically the same games on your PC. Plus: GH3 songs with rock band notes or vice versa.

They even have the drums. (no singing, yet)

All-American Rejects - "Real World"

Oh man, Behind Blue Eyes on drums is hilarious. I remember the first time we played it, the drummer was groaning so much about how he wasn't playing. Then the drum part started up and as the rest of the band desperately kept star power going to not fail, I was laughing hysterically.

Yup. With the exception of Run to the Hills, Enter the Sandman and Ballroom Blitz I believe every song from Rock Band 1 can be imported for RB2 as well as all the DLC being compatible with either game. And all the instruments are cross-compatible.

I guess for the price of Rock Band (with all the attachments) you get could a beginner guitar set.

But that only caters for one person, and you actually have to be patient enough to genuinely play.

Lord, I hope not.

This is the current makeup of my band, The Boston Molasses Tragedy. (http://pretentiousgamer.com/photos/2.jpg)

From left to right: Elysia on bass(my roommate's), Madeline on vocals(my gf's), Doc on guitar(mine), and Hephaestus on drums(my other roommate's).

...yeah, this game is a little pathetic isn't it?

Not to one-up you, but you just reminded me I've never actually beaten that song. Loaded it up and 96.5% on my first try :P

The main reason I'd never beaten it is because it's just so many goddamn notes and it's soooo boring. I didn't feel like playing through the first 3/4ths just to (possibly) fail when the snare rolls started.

but playing a The Who a billion times've taught me all i need to know about 8th notes on the snare while performing quarter notes on a bass drum.

Playing RB made me realize two things.

1, I'm a decent singer, and probably one of a few who will willingly sing online (also, I was in the top 100 for vocals in NIB)

2. I've been a drummer since I was in 6th grade, which was over a decade ago. I suck at sight reading, and had gotten so used to just making shit up in place of the actual parts that getting around it is rather hard. I keep putting in Bass notes where there are none, and I don't hit notes cause they don't feel right.

Also, I love singing Panic Attack, but can't find anyone to play it with me. No one wants to risk the drum parts on expert.

Stephen Colbert has his own track in the game. It's short easy, but fun.

I want more metal. Metal without screaming.
Title: Re: Rock Band
Post by: Trollstormur on 12 Jan 2009, 21:32
no, it's that playing that BOC song is pretty boring, it's 1 - 2 - 3 - 4  bass/hi-hat - bass/hi-hat - snare/hi-hat - bass/hi-hat for the entirety of the first part of that song.

I can beat panic attack just fine if I haven't been playing too long. It's hard to do with sore thigh/calf.

Yeah, playing in easy/medium is hard for this reason. I keep on wanting to hit the kick and the crash at the same time. very frustrating.

We're talking about the note chart for drums, not the quality of the band or the song.

There's only so much OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO you can take before you have to go all RO-R-RO-R-RO-R-RO-R... and then do that tiresome beat after the guitar solo for 2 minutes.

I have the same issue when getting through those sonic youth songs. 3 minutes of foreplay before you get to the hard part.

edit: I fucking hate those sections that are red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-red-yellow-red-red- with bass notes thrown in randomly.

I'll get them some day, but now i'm fucking terrible at them.

Kotick, of Activision (http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2009/0202/052_3.html) makes the cover of Forbes.

So far there are already 14 comments castigating the author for the following mistakes:

1)  Calling Rock Band a rip-off of Guitar Hero.
2)  Not realizing that Kotick and Activision are just sequel junkies who couldn't innovate their way out of a sack.
3)  Not realizing that Kotic/Activision/Neversoft didn't actually make Guitar Hero, but instead bought it off of Harmonix.

There will probably be more.

HMX store only ships to the US, which prevented me from ordering one a couple days ago. Disaster.

I started playing drums recently, started out on Medium, now trying expert... with little success, even some of the first tier songs kick my ass, but I'm not doing too bad. Hopefully I'm not too far from being able to play Expert pretty competently with a little practice. I just reached a point (somewhere around playing through Green Grass & High Tides) where everything else just wasn't fast enough any more. Expert seems to be addressing that just fine!

I actually got a RB2 kit for x-mas, and I have to say, it is very fancy. The red and green drums develop a bubble on them though that I don't care for. it doesn't change how the kit works though.

I've 5*'d every Who song there is, and I've 5*'d ever Rush song except for YYZ and La Villa Strangiato (a custom song made by some guy) because LVS is designed for an electronic kit rather than a RB kit so the yellow notes are used for the very fast hi-hat hits. (it's seriously like red yellow yellow yellow blue yellow red yellow yellow yellow blue yellow red yellow yellow yellow and it is so hard.

I've been considering getting another pedal so I can play Through The Fire and The Flames.

Don't they make electronic triggers specifically for bass pedals?

I bought the $30 replacement pedal they sell at Best Buy. It's actually not bad. It's a pull-spring design, rather than a push-spring like the stock pedal, so it's more responsive.

I lent my kit to a friend for a week and he broke the stock pedal. To repay me, he got me this 3rd-party pedal that is a little smaller and sticks up at a more extreme angle to your ankle.
As such, the hinge of the pedal isn't strained nearly as much and therefore doesn't break. When the actual pedal itself broke in half, I just bolted some siding onto either end of the pedal and now it has been transformed to some sort of epic indestructible monster pedal. Now if only I could keep up with Mike Portnoy's ridiculous bass beatz.

I think that, based on all the headlines its been getting (And the fact that Harmonix confirmed they aren't releasing RB3 until Q1 2010 because they want to focus on Rb:Beatles) Harmonix might actually be trying to make this game stand out from everything else. I'm surprised how much overlap in the song choices there is between the Rock Band setlist and the GH:WT setlist.  That said, in terms of guitar anyhow, I find myself liking Rock Band more than GH:WT more and more as time goes on.  The songs only on WT are pretty awesome, but seeing how the note charts differ between RB and WTis kind of a turn-off, and I feel like the RB note charts are more correct (see: Everlong).

Plus the drums for WT took a lot of getting used to, not only because the notes look pretty different and all, but also because there's a much shorter grace period for note hits.

that and hitting or missing a note makes your rockmeter go way up or down, you can go from red to green in a measure and a half and god help you if you toss a stick, which is remarkably easy when you miss a cymbal and the stick gets caught underneath it.

Which is even more embarassing when you do it on a rock band kit without the cymbal attachments.  I don't know how I do it, but like one out of every five songs it happens that I somehow get a stick caught underneath a pad.
