I need music to pump me up when I work out. What do you guys listen to? What can you suggest? All things terribly cheesy and poppy are encouraged.
-
I found Thunderbirds Are Now! work well for this kind of thing. Some of The Unicorns would probably be good for working-out as well.
-
When I'm working out is the only time I listen to rap and heavy metal. Gets my adrenaline going.
-
Listen to Breathe by Prodigy, on loop, over and over again.

Black Sabbath. Any other not-particularly fast metal bands (unless you're running, I guess). Isis is particularly good for lifting weights.
Considering I weight like 135 and listen to metal and the buff dudes at school used to listen to Death Cab for Cutie, I was wondering if their was an inverse relationship between body size and music badassitude. I made a mental graph and everything, but where do I plot the really built faculty members that listen to Tchaichovsky?

Honestly, all I listen to while working out/running are the techno songs on Newgrounds. I just download everything interesting by Dimrain47, Paragonx9, and cornandbeans, and put it on random.

Let's Get Physical - Olivia Newton John
Oh that's on there. She is the inspiration for my workout wear too.

Danger Mouse's Grey Album is pretty good. I'm a fan of listening to The Go! Team, also.
-
Holy Fuck's LP is all I need for this right now.
-
Cheesy and poppy?

I'm gonna agree with the previously stated Go! Team, Holy Fuck, and LCD Soundsystem choices. I sometimes work out to Daft Punk and any Daft Punk-esque bands

I'd say Kyuss, and then I realized that's just because I listen to them pretty much all the time anyway.
That, and I don't exercise.

Dark Ambient/Drone is good for running, as opposed to fast music. Fast music can subconsciously set your pace for you, and it may be too fast (and tire you out quicker) or too slow (so you don't go fast enough). With drone and ambient you can pretty much set your own pace and it relaxes and puts me in the right mindset for running.
As for weightlifting, normally grindcore. Because I'm wierd.
-
Well since Im normally lifting weights in the gym I go for metal to get the adrenaline flowing. But Im going to guess, and I may be making false assumptions here, that you neither regularly listen to metal or lift weights so my suggestion would be whatever music you enjoy as it should keep up going.
-
Being the metal head that I am, you would probably expect me to say "listen to metal"
But actually, for me, for weight training, I tend to listen to either talk radio, audio podcasts, or classical.
I find that my breathing tends to be better when Im listening to something calmer, whereas if I start listening to something fast (as someone before me pointed out in relation to running) I tend to try and work myself harder. Listening to talk distracts me, doesnt cause my adrenaline to peak early, and, at least for me, allows me work out a lot longer.
-
I don't know about you, but I just got the new Fall Out Boy song on my VCast phone and it GETS ME PUMPED!
You may have seen me discussing this topic on a recent commercial. Sadly, it was interrupted by a call from "my lady." Love you, honey!

I'll add my second to everybody citing 45:33, as well as daft punk, especially Alive 2007. I also like Justice, going in the same vein of dancy electronic music. I also tend to listen to terrible girly pop, but I'm assuming that you don't want my opinion on that.
I also agree that listening to fast music when running is a bad idea. I used to listen to music when I ran, and I can't help matching my steps and breaths to the music, which is really limiting. When I stopped, I found that I could run way longer and faster.
-
'Eye of the Tiger' on repeat, duh.

Actually, I do both. Since I listen to metal a lot (read, a lot), most metal doesn't really get the adrenaline flowing as well as grindcore. Speedcore is also quite good for weight lifting.. Hmm, gonna try weight lifting and chiptunes.

Indeed, but music that is either too slow (ambient/drone) or too fast (speedcore) or simply has no timing at all (some noise) Don't distract these things.

I have never tried it, but I have a suspicion that Girl Talk would also be motivating.

You're drowning in a sea of the past, but I got your life jacket right here. It's called the 80s and it will be around forever.

good god, yes.
While I mostly listen to cheesball posi-core (which is the ultimate workout music, by the way... everysong is fast with cheese-positive lyrics about life change), I would probably listen to Girl Talk or maybe just modern pop.
-
This is a mashup of Eye Of The Tiger with I WIsh by Skeelo with Cannonball by The Breeders

go crazy

Bikini Kill and Big Business are great for working out.
-
Wow, I can't believe I didn't realize this until but you should just put "I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls on repeat.
That, or Eye of the Tiger, like everyone else said.
-
Generally, I listen to some cool Asian drum stuff when I work out, mostly because my work out consists of doing Kung Fu. Need to get some of that drum stuff for personal listening too. I recommend the drum stuff highly as it just pumps you up.

Emilio is basically a superhero who solves peoples problems with 2manydjs mashups.

Bikini Kill

My current workout mix includes:
Death From Above 1979
Iron Maiden
Kasabian
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Daft Punk
I run about 20% faster when Black History Month comes on. Music over body is a beautiful thing.

I find sort of future pop / ebm stuff seems to work (particularly assemblage 23) though I have no idea why...
-
I used to have a lengthy ebm/industrial playlist in my old iPod for when I went running. Ass 23, Apop, VNV Nation, Covenant... I think there even some Velvet Acid Christ on there.
Oddly though, these days I'm more about songs like "Step into my Office" by Belle & Sebastian for working out.
-
daft punk, dr. dre's 2001
-
My current workout music consists of this playlist:
30 random speedcore songs
30 random noise songs
polymaths EP
15 random post rock songs
15 random math rock songs
15 random LLN songs
on shuffle.
-
I don't really have a workout playlist per se, but back during football season I made myself a game day playlist to pump myself up before a game. If a song seems like it doesn't fit, it just means we listened to it in the locker room a lot.
Crank Dat Soulja Boy
Fucking in the Bushes - Oasis
Halo 2 Theme - Steve Vai (actually this one was my choice)
Superstar - Saliva
Crank Dat Spiderman - Crank Squad
Thunderstruck
Black Betty - Ram Jam
Acid Rain - Liquid Tension Experiment
New Noise - Refused
Kernkraft 400 Remix - Zombie Nation
Just Like You Imagined - Nine Inch Nails
Other than those, just metal or hardcore rap works pretty well for me.
Listen to Breathe by Prodigy, on loop, over and over again.
Most of The Fat of the Land would work for this, I think.
Firestarter, Smack My Bitch Up, Diesel Power, etc. all have a pretty heavy beat or a quick pace to them and work wonders for me.
-
I like to listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers, of all things, for my workout music. While often times it makes no sense, it has an energy and beat to it that can keep you going on that treadmill/bike/elliptical. Their newest (Stadium Arcadium) is actually rather enjoyable.
