Please forgive the asinine title...
This article (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=548728&in_page_id=1811) got me thinking about breasts, and I realised something that I've probably known on some level for a long while, but that I've probably never articulated: without a sexual context, I find breasts to be kinda, well, boring (at least from the outside).
In fact, I'm beginning to think that I find almost everything about the human body kinda boring, outside a sexual or medical context.
This came as a bit of a surprise to me because I used to like believing that I'm the kind of person who can separate attraction to the physical form from attraction to personality and behaviour, and place significant importance on the former (so as to distinguish myself from those condescending idealists that think personality is the only thing that should matter?).
Is this something you guys recognise? Is it a symptom of growing up, or of simply being desensitised?
Perhaps you've had a discussion about this before, but I didn't think I'd be helped by a search for "boobs" or "breasts" on these forums :)

True story: It's very much an American thing to be all "tee-hee boobies!" I mean, it's not that women in other countries can walk around topless and no one will do a double-take, but the idolization of breasts as we Americans view them doesn't even really extend to Canada or Mexico, our closest neighbors. (The Japanese, on the other hand... well.... it's the fucking Japanese.)
My german professor told us a story about a time he taught in Germany for a year. He was teaching foreign exchange students from the US. They went down to a bath house. He didn't realize that public spas and the like in Germany do not separate men from women. He also didn't realize that people don't do the little towel thing to cover the pride and joy while in saunas. At first, he was shocked (one of his colleagues was with them and called him a prude, in fact) but then he realized something profound. He noticed that the boys (not his boys, but the natives) were comfortable talking to the women in the place, despite the fact everyone was naked. It wasn't lust in their eyes. It wasn't a sexual thing. It was just a person that happened to be naked.
That said, I still think boobs are pretty great in a sexual context. I'm just not as phased by them outside of wanting to plunder a woman's treasure as most other men in the country because I've made the conscious decision to just accept things that are there as simply being there, nothing special about it. (Not saying it always works; just saying if you make a decision ahead of time, it makes it a lot easier to get closer to that ideal.)

My frist wierd cultural boob experience (I haven't had nearly enough of them) was in Caines, Australia. Some friends and I were there for a few days and some of the girls I was with wanted to go down to the Public Lagoon area to lay out and some of the guys thought it would be fun to get some beef from the store and BBQ it (endless shrimp on the barbie jokes were made cause it's Australia hurr). I was talking to my friend Jule while she was laying out, and for some reason, she sat up to say something to me, and her shoulder/head perfectly framed a girl laying out topless behind her. It threw me for a second, but after looking around, I realized lots of girls were doing it, so it was just a thing, and no big deal. I, of course, asked Julie if she would be doing it, and she hit me.
But, boobs have never really been a big thing to me. There have been numerous occasions where I've befriended a girl, decided I liked her, then someone pointed out to me that she "has a totally huge rack, man" and it's hard to get someone to believe that I just never noticed it before they mentioned it. I'm way more of a butt guy, but apparently there's no such thing as a guy that doesn't like boobs, according to most of the people I know...
Like Narr said, they can definitely be great in certain circumstances, but they aren't the kind of thing I really look for, because... well, it just never really has been. I don't actually have a reason why.

I read the article, and I guess my feelings for it fall on the positive side. I know that I enjoy swimming topless, but it's uncomfortable when I'm the only one.(Or when the fuzz show up.) The weird thing is, I'm not sure I can separate my breasts from a sexual context. It's always at the back of my mind when I'm topless, even if I can push it away by saying "Nobody here is looking at you like that." I don't think it'll ever go away. I agree with some of the other people who've posted that Americans have made breasts into more of a big deal than they are. Breasts are a secondary sex characterist (lulz AP Psychology is paying off) which is the equivelent of a male having facial hair. Men certainly aren't required to cover up their beards so why should women be forced to cover their mammary glands? I feel like I'm restating what has already been said but I really think it's the sexual view of women that the American society fosters that makes breasts so taboo. Turn on the tv during a major sporting event; you will see a scantily clad woman laying on a car or drinking a beer making it confusing as to which 'product' is being sold - the car or the woman. Sex sells, at least in the US and breasts have become a symbol of sex. With this view of breasts it is simply not possible for American women to walk around topless. I've been to Europe and seen how casual exposed breasts are for women (in some areas, mind you) and I think it is a victory for women and the beginning of viewing women as people rather than sexual objects for men to oggle.
On a relatively unrelated note boobs are awesome.

That article makes me think about a similar situation in Canada. It's been legal here for women to go topless for about eight years, I believe. In BC this was spearheaded by a woman who was arrested at a small Vancouver pool. She ended up taking her case to the Supreme Court, and apparently afterwards travelled all over BC, going topless in all the pools she could. At least, this is the story I was told while taking lifeguarding courses, as a warning to us not to challenge such people.

i would have to disagree with this, unfortunately. in italy it's legal, and very common, for women to go around topless. unfortunately, when you're watching italian tv it's immediately obvious that the women are possibly even more objectified here than they are in america.
anyways, i have to say i like boobs a lot. i think they are pretty awesome. i won't be walking around topless any time soon though because i am kind of full of myself and think that only a privileged few people should be allowed to see my nakedness.

I have a really really really really REALLY bad breast fixation.
Usually the first thing I notice about a girl. Not my favorite part, but that's usually where I start, then I go to the face.
It's hard to take showers quickly lol.

I completely agree that being topless should be allowed in certain situations. In summer, I would be very happy to be in nothing but shorts, but the fact that I'm female prevents me from doing this. I just don't see why men can be topless and women can't. Hell, I have seen hairy shirtless men with boobs bigger than mine, and it was not a pretty sight. If they're going to make it illegal for you to be topless because of breasts, they should at least enforce that law for both sexes.
I don't think people would be doing that much staring, once the initial shock wore off, either. Nudity isn't really that exciting. One of my guy friends said "If I'm in a room full of similarly attractive women, most are naked, but one is wearing lingerie and another is wearing a sexy dress, I'd be ogling the one in the dress first and then the one in the lingerie. Imagining her naked is half the fun of ogling." I think this is true of many people.
Regarding boobs...yeah, they're great. I don't see how people don't think they're great. Sure, they may just be fat deposits, but they are fun fat deposits. They look nice and are soft and smooshy and just generally pleasant.

Well, I like boobs, enough to even be considered a 'boob person'... But, It's not something that I think can make or break a girl's sex-appeal. In fact, I'd definitely say that there are few things that can make or break a girl's sex-appeal(the face in general being one of the exceptions). For most people, I think that how a person's face looks is more attractive than most body-parts. I know first-hand that most of the girls I've crushed on haven't had the whole hourglass with huge knockers look going on. So many different things go into what makes a person attractive to really be so sensitive about boobs that you'd be all, "ZOMG MUST SPOOGE" whenever you see a topless chick with nice breasts walking by.
I mean, I'm sure the first few times that I'd see a woman with bare breasts at a pool I'd be feeling thankful and excited, but after a few times I'm sure it would just become another body part. I'm definitely not the most qualified to make this statement, but I think that sex is way more than just animal-like physical attraction, I mean, I'm sure it's somewhat that;but so much stuff must be incorporated. For an example, would you rather have sex with a drop dead gorgeous(by conventional standards) stranger, or with someone that you know and are even semi-attracted to? I know that I can honestly say I'd prefer the person I know. I'll digress by saying that every body part is just that, and none can really be made sexual, unless you say so.

This was the idea behind some new laws in Sweden which allow women to swim topless.
But I think the whole reason for it being taboo is because of the puritan nature of a large part of the country (and this also applies for other countries, particularly ones with theocracies). There's a ridiculous amount of fundamentalists in our country who cry out and complain to our government when things like this happen, be it on tv or just out in the park. Most of America either doesn't complain back about having rights taken away, or doesn't know that there is a system in place that lets us control what we see and don't see.
Fun Fact: The Parent's Television Council (a decidedly Christian organization, although they won't admit it) is responsible for 99.3% of the complaints to the FCC in regards to content they think should be removed from television.
If enough people complained to their House representatives and Senators, and the FCC, then the idea of toplessness as a taboo could be removed from American society. The likelihood of this happening, however, is pretty low, given the large amount of senior citizens and fundamentalists who were brought up against it. In about 40 years or so, when most of them are dead, our senior citizens will be the people who used to have topless mudfights at Woodstock, and maybe we'll have some progress.
On topic: No matter how good your rack is, I won't sleep with you if you're completely vapid/don't have a pretty face. To be entirely honest, I'm 20 and still haven't had an actual relationship because all of the women I meet are either too dull/close-minded, don't have a pretty face, or are taken.

I like breasts. Frankly, I can't help but glance at a woman's chest at least once or twice during a conversation, though they have to be presented well. I think that if we were all to walk around topless, I wouldn't be fazed by it really, because like Darkbluerabbit's friend said, imagining a woman naked is half the fun of ogling.

i do not get huge boobs. i have a pretty small chest but if they were any larger i would almost certainly have breast reduction surgery. even though i have never had large boobs i just get the feeling they would make my life all kinds of stupid inconvenient.
i don't really check out breasts on other girls either. i do not really have anything else to add to this! i guess the only way i can explain my lack of fascination with breasts is that when i am checking out a dude i don't exactly stare at his pectoral muscles or junk or anything, so i just don't do it with women either. people as a whole are pretty awesome but the idea of ogling particular body parts just makes me feel like a bit of a skeezy objectifying jerk. i know most people can't help it but i don't know, somehow i just can't and never have been able do it.

Actually one of my friends from high school recently had that procedure done because her boobs were way out of proportion to her body. And honestly, if someone's boobs just look too unnaturally big or just unnatural in general, it really just turns me off.

Okay, it seems I didn't really state my stance clearly enough. I am not really attracted to people's bodies most of the time. I appreciate a nice arse, fun little tits, or a toned stomach or whatever but it doesn't make the leap to sexual desire. It certainly helps, but it doesn't mean shit to me if I don't like someone's personality.

I bet you'd have a bunch of stalkers hanging out around public pools, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone they've got a permanent hard-on over topless.
And because we're prudes, it'd take an even longer time for most women to accept it. I think men here would be all "HELLS YEAH" if something like this was passed, but it wouldn't even matter because you wouldn't ever see it anyway as we're shy about our bodies.

Yeah, well... Like I said, I could definitely be into a girl who was completely flat chested, given the circumstances were good. Boobs are awesome, but it's really superficial to really base a potential relationship around them. I don't think anybody will argue against that.
But, to answer your question, yeah, small boobs are definitely 'hott' if they're shapely and stuff.

Breasts are kind of fun. You poke the underside of them and they jiggle. It is fun to watch, but you get funny looks when you do that in public.
I have always had a pretty small chest, and I wanted bigger boobs, purely because it was easier to find bras that were a cup size bigger than the one I was wearing. So if my boobs were a cup bigger, I could go to department stores rather than underwear shops and pay less money for a bra, which means more money for me. So I went on the pill, and my chest got bigger. Wham Bam, thank you Ma'am. I wouldn't want them any larger than they are now, though, because I get distracted by them enough as it is. Also, while they are still not all that large, I am a small person in general, so the look more...substantial? They are not basketballs, but they are still noticeable.

America and dicks, huh... All porn-stars have to be hung plus it's pretty much drilled into guys heads through pop-culture that bigger is better. There's still a focus on wangs, just, men aren't usually as often objectified as women are... I think that probably has to do with how women were the submissive gender to their dominant male counter-part for years... I'm pretty sure the reason behind that is how men are genetically stronger/larger, and how much of an important role strength played in the less civilized world.

As had been said, proportionality. Large breasts look out of place on some people, and small breasts look out of place on some people. I find a person's "attractiveness" is based much, much more on their face than any other part of the body, everything else just tends to fall into line with it.

I say whatever to boobs. As long as they are proportional to the girl's body, then hey, it's good. I personally do not want my boobs to get any bigger and if they did and wouldn't shrink, I would get a reduction.

Faces > boobs or butts. I agree with you all there. There are some really normal parts of the body that can be attractive as well. Honestly, I go like this when I look at a girl: Eyes, face, neck, shoulders, chest, tummy, hips, feet and then up again. I guess some people call it the "up & down" but whatever, I do it to everybody, regardless of gender.
Also, I think that shoulders and necks are really sensual parts of the human figure. Also the back.

Personally, I aesthetically like tall, skinny females, with a moderately small chest. I don't know where that comes from. Though, for practicality when it comes to kissin', tall is good for me because otherwise I would have to bend double to reach them. I have a friend that is 6'2" and he is going out with a girl that is 5'1, I find myself laughing because they seem so mismatched.

Eh, making it legal for women to go topless does not get rid of the taboo around it. It's legal for women to go topless here in Ontario but rarely have I ever seen any women taking advantage of this right (or maybe I just don't go to the beach often enough). In conclusion: boobs are great, but I think it will take a lot more work than a bit of legislature to destroy the taboo surrounding them (in Canada and the US at least).

Wow, 95 degrees farenheit, that is almost as hot as it gets here. That is interesting, since I am in Colorado, which is further south than northern California. In the spring or fall, though, I would see why people wouldn't want to be going around topless.

The very bottom of Ontario goes just below the northern border of California, but I was wrong; living in London I'm one degree of latitude further north than the top of Cali. Remember that maps are inaccurate because they represent the flattening of a sphere.
We get quite the temperature range here, from 30s in the summer to negative 30s in the winter.

The theory goes that people are attracted to other people based on their alleged fertility. Women are more fertile at younger ages, so a woman's youth is an attractive quality. Larger breasts begin to sag as a woman ages, so it is easier to tell how old a bustier woman is. Smaller breasts don't droop much, which makes it harder to tell if the woman is in her peak reproductive years.
Of course, this was in Psychology Today, which is probably the trashiest allegedly scientific magazine printed in America.
FYI Ladies: Wearing a bra all the time can weaken the muscles behind your boobs. Going without a bra for at least a few hours a day will keep those muscles stronger and your boobs perkier!

It wasn't always that way, though, although I guess you could say that about most anything related to body image. Back in olden tymes you only had big knockers if you were a wet nurse. Size is not an issue as long as you do not look like you have giant round shapes hanging off of your chest that look as if they are about to burst at any second, also I have never met anyone who was flat chested who had already been through puberty. Okay, it seems I didn't really state my stance clearly enough. I am not really attracted to people's bodies most of the time. It's quite interesting, I conducted a very informal unscientfic survey last year (for "survey" read "discussion involving two bisexual girls and three straight guys") and discovered that in general, guys are much more attracted to breasts than girls who like girls. Boobs are superb. I would fall into the definition of a breast man. While I love to have a large A cup to a C cup on a woman, personality is farm more important. As an interesting aside I have recently learned that going bra shopping is incredibly dull and tedious and that no one has the amount of fun that the girls on the posters in underwear stores seem to be having. Bra shopping is pretty horrible. It's fun to look at all the fun bras and take a bunch into the dressing room, but it's so hard to find one that fits just right. You get annoyed pretty quickly.
Overall I think boobs are pretty alright. I don't see how they're really all that special, since they are just little sacks of fat for the most part, but I get that guys find them intriguing since most dudes don't have their own. Personally I quite like my own. They are proportionate to my body and I can make them look pretty darn good with the right bra/shirt combination.

Boobs are nice. But so is every inch of the body of a woman that you truly love. As far as pure lust goes, a B or C cup is usually nice. C is the perfect size to me. Anything much bigger than that, and it gets to be kind of unattractive, and can get in the way during sex. No disrespect to any large-chested women on here! And I haven't been "de-sensitized to it." huh, I just looked through the gallery, and I'm realizing I like breasts even smaller than I thought. As in, all the breasts that I think look most attractive have captions referring to them as A cups. On the question of my opinion of boobs, my first reaction was; I care about them too much, probably spend too much time staring at them and wish I could get over them.
Then I though about three girls who I consider most attractive in my circle of friends at uni:
1 (Now my best friend) I don't think I noticed the size of her rack until after I had asked her out and been rejected by her, and then it was kinda hard not to as she was wearing not the most concealing bikini top.
2, (Girl I'm planning on asking out) I met this girl and chatted with her a bit, we made each other laugh, but I barely had a chance to notice more than the fact that she was really kinda cute, it wasn't until about the third time I met her that I realised 'woah, she has huge tits. bonus'.

So nowadays bra shopping, I just run in, grab the prettiest bras like that in 34 C and pay. It's become so I don't have to try them on. My boobs are pretty average shaped I guess-- or they're so malleable they just form the shape of whatever bra they're in lol.

Then clearly your corsets are sub-par. For one thing, if you are wearing them regularly or for a long period of time (all day, perhaps) you should be wearing a liner or a camisole underneath to protect the corset from your body sweat and oils and your skin from seams. Boning should not poke into you anywhere, and if it does you need to take your business somewhere else, because the manufacturer obviously does not care about the quality of his products. Your corset should never bow and bend into your stomach or chest or breasts, especially since it is supposed to be supportive to all of those.

First off, I might just be lucky but I've met as many people who loved giving oral sex as people who didn't. Guys, this may not be about boobs--and, really, no offense intended--but it can be pretty damn' difficult to figure out what passes for "creepy", "cool", etc ,on this board. I'm not sure those words are very informative to someone who isn't already one of you lot, which is perhaps why I've spent some time trying to figure out if I've been posting "creepy" in here. On the topic of glasses, I realised just the other day that I tend to find nice glasses (ones that fit the person well) sexier than shapely breasts. They can easily add a lot of character to the most ordinary face. Also, they allow for exciting variation, eg: *removes glasses* Ta-DAH.
I met a very sweet teacher from Germany the other day, and I am certain a good portion of her wonderful teacher-aura had its source in her hot, simple teachery glasses.
Me and some of my acquaintances now refer to that look as the "Hot Librarian" look.

I look ok in glasses. Most people look good in glasses, they just need the right frames. That said it is not an excuse for people with perfect vision to go out and get vanity frames. Those people suck.
Yeah, I know people that really have the wrong frames. A girl I know with a pretty round face has thick emo-glasses, which really don't work for her, while some thin metal frames or something might. I need to think more about the frames I want when I get new ones, I never try different styles on or anything.

Curvy girls are awesome, as long as they aren't like twice my weight. Tall girls are attractive, though it sucks 'cause some of them are taller than me... I know a girl who's like 6'4"~. That's a bit too tall, it would just be weird... But pretty lanky girls around a 5'9" who can look me in the eye are great. Why do you guys think that it's taboo to be shorter than the girl in a relationship? Do you find it shocking? Would you girls(rhetorical question a'course) be turned off by a guy around your height, or even a bit shorter? Personally, as the guy, it probably wouldn't bother me being somewhat smaller than my girlfriend. Most of my friends say it would be 'fucked up' or 'wouldn't work'.

The difference is in how serious the relationship is. To me, a boyfriend or girlfriend is someone you would invite to family holidays or a relative's wedding. I think it's okay to be in a more casual relationship, some people don't. It all depends on what you are comfortable with at a certain point in your life. I have more fun when I'm not committed, not because I want to sleep around or anything (I don't), but because a significant other is a time-consuming responsibility that I don't feel the need to take on just because I enjoy makeouts on occasion. Its an arrangement that works for me, but if it doesn't sound like a good one to you, well, I can respect that.

That's not really a healthy thing (friends just because she rejected me), even though it happens a lot. It's kind of hard, oftentimes, for people who have been good friends for a long time to transition to a relationship, because the dynamics change. It's preferable for the person you fall in love with to become your best friend. But I can't really talk, as the person I'm involved with was my friend long before a romantic interest.

Long story short, we became friends, I soon got over someone that I was having trouble getting over, then I fell for her (this was all in the span of under a month,) she was also interested in me, but neither of us made a move (I didn't, because she was with someone, never mind that she was saying she wanted to leave him, and because I still had some lingering issues from the girl I had trouble getting over that were causing extreme fear of rejection. Her, I don't know.) She then got pregnant, ended up having the kid, and getting engaged to the father. (Of course, all of THAT is a long story, that I don't care to hijack this thread with.)
That might be why she rejected me by the time I eventually DID make a move. :lol:

i agree with what jimmy said too, about the whole physical-attraction-being-important deal. most people seems to really go on the defense when you mention the possibility that they might consider looks important in a relationship but from what i've seen it seems like everyone automatically does, by default, at least a little bit. it's just part of the physical aspect of the relationship. i don't consider it necessarily a shallow thing because speaking for myself, i find most people are either pretty dang attractive already or have the capacity to be attractive if they can find a look that works for them. i also find that people automatically become more physically attractive to me once i know a bit about their personality. i know completely casual sex with strangers is really normal for some people but man, i totally cannot have sex with a guy unless i can find at least some redeeming qualities in him. the worst sex i've ever had has been with people i was completely indifferent to. i always start thinking about pancakes or something 15 seconds in. no point in regretting it now but it's definitely made me feel kind of shitty looking back.
to put it in really superficial shallow terms, the way i am attracted to different guys it's like, it would be something like how there's a scale from 1 - 10, 1 being not so attractive and 10 being completely ridiculously attractive. and let's say in order for me to find a guy physically attractive he has to be a 5 or higher. which isn't so high. but that's basically it - if there's two guys and one is a 5 and the other is a 10, it pretty much puts them on the exact same level and they'll get the same amount of... uh... "dating points" i guess. from that point on it's their personality that will really determine which guy i'd rather date. or have sex with. whatever. i promise my relationships aren't actually as weird and meticulously planned as this, this is just the best way i can think of to describe how appearance doesn't "matter" to me even though i guess it kind of does a bit for everyone anyway.

All good looks are great so long as they have personality to back them up. There's not a specific mold that is 'perfection', so to speak. Anything can become 'my type' if it's not hideous and they have a great personality. But, I wouldn't say it's like 5, then the rest is personality. For me it'd more scale to like, personality vs. looks. For example, if you're not knock-out great looking, but, your personality is perfect you'd be one up on someone who's got great looks but a shitty personality... I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I rarely see a person on the street or in a photograph and find them attractive beyond maybe appreciating them on an aesthetic level. I have to know a person before I can actually be attracted to them. I know I'm weird in this sense. I'll be out with friends and one of them will spot a "hottie," and my response is usually "what if they're a jerk?" Then they tell me that I ruin their fun, so I just don't say anything anymore and let them discuss the person's hotness in peace.
I'm certainly not immune to the charms of someone who is good looking and a person I respect, of course. "Love the person on the inside" is great and all, but I enjoy being with someone I find physically attractive.

Seriously though, this is how I look at things. My girlfriend and I both know a lot about a lot of different things. It's pretty cool to learn knew stuff in that way. At first it seemed like a potential problem but now I think being different from the person your with in terms of abilities/interests can be pretty helpful in a lot of ways.

I've never had this problem myself, but it's happened to plenty of couples I know, most of them grown adults. The whole knowledge thing could actually be negative, too. The amount of knowledge and cultural learning that a person has obviously has an effect on their success in careers and monetary worth, and that can leave the lesser-knowledgeable partner feeling not good enough or jealous, envious of the other's seemingly "effortless" success.

So they apparently weren't "dating" but just going out. Okay. She told him that she definitely wasn't "totally into monster trucks" and that of course was their last "date" (or whatever). She complained to me that he was so shallow, and that it didn't make any sense to narrow your field of potential partners based on how much they love monster trucks. I agreed, but also pointed out to her that she'd narrowed her own field by eliminating people who like monster trucks. I was just messing with her, because it's obviously not the same thing, but she got all mad and defensive, because it's obviously not the same thing. I hate it when that happens.

I get really into the music that I listen to, as I'm sure a lot of people do... And if you can't listen to some Devendra Banhart or some Vanderslice every once and in a while, I just don't know how it would work. I mean, I understand that most non-pop music is an acquired taste, but, if you aren't even willing to get attached it'd be a big turn off. See, basically, what it would come down to is, are you into even the same genre of music?

It'd be incredibly annoying to date someone with the same musical taste as me. I am a big fan of twee cutesy pop music. All Girl Summer Fun Band write the best songs about love ever. If I was in a relationship with a dude who agreed with me in this respect, it would probably be fucking obnoxious to everyone else. And I also think the book thing makes sense! i don't know, i eat meat only about twice a week and i've had tons of vegetarians and vegans tell me it doesn't count and i have to either go full out or nothing. it's kind of silly. i mean, yeah global warming is probably real and all, but would you tell someone they were either allowed to have a car and be a terrible person, or have no car and be part of the solution? obviously if everyone collectively just drives less it'll still make a significant impact.

(2) Boy continues to make a career out of philosophy as doctoral student/professor/cult leader/motivational speaker but also learns to discuss other stuff that might not bore the fuck out of 99% of the population.

There are some serious confounds in studies like that, though. Who's to say that it's the semen causing the anti-depressant effect? There are so many other things that could be true about situations where the girl is swallowing versus situations where she is not that the link could not possibly be attributed to actually ingesting semen alone.

I think it also depends on the girls diet /personal hygiene / most recent visit to the toilet. Same goes for guys, if you have a healthy diet and good personal hygiene, Oral is a very pleasent experience to give.

Swallowing isn't a big deal to me usually. It would be even better if semen actually had a nice taste...but overall (like someone said earlier) it kind of takes the inconvenience out of cleaning up afterwards. I'm sorry I'm coming late to the vegan discussion, but I feel like weighing in because...I feel like it.
C'mon, vegan hostility comes from the insecurity of people who believe they are being judged and can't take it.
I wouldn't say it's a belief so much as a fact, a lot of the time. All it takes is one or two experiences with a PETA advocate to convince people that all vegans are militant snobs, leading to some of the comments that have been made in this thread.
I am vegan, but a lot of people I hang out with don't even know it. I generally don't bring up meat related issues unless it is a reply to something another person says. I got tired of biting my tongue around people who ranted about how stupid vegetarians are. (It can be kinda fun speaking up and seeing how embarrassed the person gets. I enjoy flummoxing people.)
Basically, the only meat eaters that bother me are the ones who insult me for my diet.
P.S.- I lost weight AND my boobs grew after I stopped eating meat. I could have been the fact that I was 18 and had one last puberty spurt, but it's still worth noting. My skin got better when I gave up eggs and dairy.

I'm curious as to what vegans eat/drink for calcium... The main reason I wouldn't want to be vegan is because it seems unhealthy. I mean, humans are omnivores because without both animal products and vegetation they suffer from deficiencies, right? You'd probably have to start taking multi-vitamins and calcium pills to be healthy, or am I missing something? Also, what I said about vegans, I most definitely meant those fucks who think being a vegan is a freaking life-style and not just a choice.
As for protein, I realize nuts/whey and other shit like that... But dang.. I don't know how much of that I could eat without craving a big juicy steak. As a vegan, do you not get meat cravings...? Or did you just never really like meat?

I've always viewed the "Swallowing" thing as an issue of acceptance and trust. If you're not willing to accept that part of the process of love making, why do it in the first place? Frankly, it's just a show of love, I think, the same as when a guy is happy to give oral to a girl, because it's not like it's exactly fun for the guy. They do it because it's that person, it's their body, and they love and respect them, and want to show that.
I'm also not really sure how you can be turned off by the idea of oral sex, for the reasons mentioned above, and also because it just feels plain good. That sort of goes against human instinct.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I heard it varies. I'm sure darkbluerabbit can say. (Sorry, I feel like for whatever reason I happen to be answering questions directed for you lately!) Some people who become vegetarians do crave meat, I think, but my roommate has been a vegetarian since birth for religious reasons. Not only does she not crave meat at all, she can't stand the vegetarian food that tries to imitate meat.

I think that's part of the reason why I dislike vegetarian products. I do like meat, but I have no problem eating tofu if I know it's tofu. Just don't try and tell me it's turkey and then expect me to think it's the same thing and not hate it.

Yeah, tofu's great if you simply work with it rather than try to perform miracles. I like using it since it's versatile and easily picks up other flavors but it's silly to act like it's a foolproof substitute..

The texture of tofu really bugs me. I tried some miso soup one time that had tofu in it and shivered every time I downed a chunk. It's like swallowing rubber.

That is because wet/raw tofu is horrible- cooked in a dish or stir-fried, and it's really an entirely different substance and nice to eat:)

And there are different ways of preparing it that have an effect on the final texture. There is soft and there is hard tofu. I prefer the softer kind myself.
Tofu and seaweed may be acquired tastes for western society but they can both be pretty damn good.

The soy milk I drink is loaded with calcium. It's really not a problem, the vegan diet can be perfectly healthy. Most vegans I know eat better diets than most vegetarians and meat eaters, I think mainly because it makes you think about food more than the average person does. I never get a craving for meat, mainly because I have no idea what it tastes like. It's been ten years since I tasted the stuff. It's just some food, it's probably tasty but so's tofu with a good marinade or sushi so it doesn't matter.
I've got to ask, where the hell do you people keep finding all these massively obnoxious vegans? All the ones I know are more interested in drinking and listening to punk rock than berating anybody. I have met a lot of really annoying meat eaters who take it as some kind of personal offense if they find out you don't eat animal products and feel the need to give you a dull, poorly informed lecture, or feel the need to tell you about some horrible vegan they met once as if you should feel bad about it. Weird.
Oh, and I'm assured by those that have tasted the difference that the vegan sperm tasting better thing is perfectly legit. A friend of mine has also told me that skinny vegan boys tend to have above average sized penises. This is a rumour I'm happy to hear doing the rounds. And to bring it back to boobs veganboobs.com might not exist but there's that vegporn site which is all porn made by vegans and vegetarians. I'm not sure exactly why someone's dietary preferences is going to get someone extra horny but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Sorry to keep derailing this thread, but I like answering questions.
Protein is easy. Nuts, soy, beans, and even whole grains have protein. No whey for vegans though, it's milk-derived. I just ate a salad with over 70% daily value for calcium. It was a big bowl of spinach with chopped veggies and tofu with a sesame dressing. Spinach and tofu are full of calcium, and lots of other nutrients too. The only nutrient that you can't get directly from a plant source is vitamin B12. The good thing is that your body stores B12 for a long time, and they put cyanocobalmin (a synthetic source of B12) in lots of products, especially energy drinks. I don't really take vitamins. My mom insisted on buying me some, but I am very bad about remembering them. I eat pretty healthy, but I'm not obsessive. The salad was mainly to make up for yesterday, as my dinner was chips and Twizzlers.
I never deny the fact that steak was once my favorite food. Then I worked in food service and started thinking about how awful it was that we threw away so much meat just because it wasn't pretty, so meat started to gross me out. I started doing some research, and it was a slippery slope from there. I honestly don't miss meat at all. Like Ruyi's roommate, I don't even like some mock chicken because it's too convincing. The textures they can recreate are impressive, but a little disturbing if meat doesn't appeal to you.
Tofu is incredibly versatile stuff. I read a good point in a cookbook, that not liking tofu is like not liking flour. If the first cookie you ate was chocolate chip, and you don't even like chocolate chip cookies, you don't say "I don't like flour" and give up on all baked goods. Also, plain flour isn't that great to eat.

I've had tofu prepared at least five or six different ways, and the taste and texture is different with each one. People who say they don't like tofu usually haven't tried it prepared the right way. It's like saying you don't like chicken. Possible, but given that there are literally thousands of ways to prepare it, I'm guessing there's at least one or two ways you'd like it.
Different strokes for different folks. Just as with boobs.

pilsner made reference to campus protestors; all of the vegans I've known would fit that description. I'm well aware that isn't a representative cross-section, and as I mentioned/implied I certainly have nothing against veganism in and of itself. And while it was simply a statement of fact about the people I've met, it should be noted that the number of vegans I've met I could count without running out of fingers.
