I just noticed in the Twitterbox. It's true! Venetian Snares tells no lies. I MEAN IT SNOWED HERE TODAY, SERIOUSLY. Also, a good song.
-
speaking of VN, Detrimentalist is coming this summer.

I'm not too keen on the samples, but, eh. It's Aaron Funk, he'll release something new in another 3 months or so.
-
Well this is an odd topic...
But have you guys ever noticed: The colder it is somewhere, the more indie bands are produced from that place. The Artic is Indie heaven following this logic.

Gentleman sounds fucking amazing. Can't wait for this.

The Guess Who sucked and the Jets were lousy anyways...
-
I don't either. But it should be about The Weakerthans.
-
so close, yet so very, very far away.
Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole is a Venetian Snares album.
-
It snowed on Sunday? Weird, I was in town for Wilco on Friday night and it was beautiful.
-
I was confused because I have heard that Winnipeg is a pretty nice place.
-
And I have nothing good to say about Toronto jungle, having been there.

hmm, Eskimo music?
-
it was SO beautiful today but I wouldn't be surprised if we got more snow

Someone should tell those folks down in Austin.

Seconded.
Favourite releases/ songs anyone?
My favourite of Aaron's work is the Hospitality EP, that was fucking amazing. Frictional Nevada never gets old.
-
'Doll Doll Doll' is easily one of the most terrifying albums I have ever heard, not to mention insanely brain-melting. Nothing he's done, however, tops 'Rossz Csillag Allat Született,' if you ask me. I mean, Billie Holiday samples? Intense violin-ing? Inspiration from the idea of an ancient Hungarian folk song that kills anyone who listens to it? What the hell else do you need?
-
Hospitality is what got me started on VS and is still probably my favorite.
I love just listening to all the fucking insane sequencing shit. Everything the band does is like one long, violent protools orgasm.
-
VS tells no lies, take it from a winnipegger.
But we do have a decent indie scene(if you like skull fucking shred metal... just ignore Drednaught.)
-
I must confess I haven't heard nearly enough of Venetian Snares, a little while ago a friend of mine showed them to me and I loved it but haven't yet capitalized on my love. Szamar Madar is my favourite song thus far, it probably has something to do with me being a music geek but an electronica remix of Elgar's Cello Concerto is amazing in concept alone.
-
I will definitely start listening to Venetian Snares soon. And I've been to Winnipeg.....and it is a frozen shithole.....that or it's incredibly hot.
-
Am I going to get flamed for thinking that 'higgins...' is better than 'rossz...'? Whatever.
I haven't really checked that much of his stuff out, but I will from now on.
-
The new album is tight. I want everyone here to go check it out. It's his best stuff in years.
-
We definitely need a lot more Vsnares in the mediafire thread.

We definitely need a lot more Vsnares in the mediaf!re thread.
I can upload 'Cavalcade Of Glee And Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms' tomorrow, I've already posted 'A Giant Alien Force More Violent & Sick Than Anything You Can Imagine' in there though and I recommend you check that out.
-
I think bulldawg mighta put up the Hungarian album a while back too

Yeah, there's two links up for Rossz I think.
-
I just discovered I have 180 Venetian Snares songs on my hard drive. Doesn't seem like it's enough somehow...
-
Just bought the "Nymphomatriarch" album today....very weird sounds

I've already downloaded it off you. Thank you so much for that! I would greatly appreciate the other one.
I got 'nymphomatriarch' a while ago...And to be honest..well, it was good breakcore. That's pretty much all. I didn't find anything about it very sex-related.

It's composed entirely out of samples of Funk and his then girlfriend having sex.
-
From a purely aural sense, (not composition-wise or recording-wise) it didn't sound that sexy. Just my thoughts on the matter. Still good though.

I know
that's why I bouhgt it

I would like to emphasise: vsnares is not a band. It's a single guy, mostly using Renoise and a variety of hardware samplers (he's moved on to include a 303 in Detrimentalist).
Speaking of which, Bebikukorica Nigiri is quite good.
In general though, his stuff is a bit too self indulgent (not to mention [probably intentionally] badly mastered). The whole 'loudness is not loud without silence as contrast' argument should be taken into account with his stuff. It's still better than speedcore though.
Also, to those who loved Rossz: You should really try a hark of the jungle tracks from Aphex's DrukQs. Really.
-
And speaking more of the single man behind Venetian Snares...this is damned near the coolest thing I have ever seen:
From theLitany Website:
"This just in from cEvin Key:::

I was thinking wow, what a lineup
