What I particularly loved was the "International Sexican Day". I don't even know what that means and it still amuses me.

Maybe I'm missing something. What's particularly funny about this, other than it being ridiculously stupid?

That's pretty much it, yeah.

I like it when people who don't have facebook talk about it as having "a facebook". It's like they're clunky old timers not with the lingo these days.

Keep on trucking guys, don't get no facebooks!
(really, stay off the grid nothing good can over come of it)

see, this is how credible holidays like Be a Ninja/Be a Pirate Day/National Grow a Beard Month are not given due credit.

It wasn't the particular day I was admiring but the entire month of bizarre and invented holidays.

Isn't Talk Like a Pirate Day some time in November? I remember celebrating it last year, or the one before, or some time in the past.

Not that my judgement means a lot, but this totally didn't deserve its own thread. Its about as funny as any of the other crap people come with on facebook.
Title: Re: For the entertainment and general enlightenment of forumers
Post by: Chrasstor on 08 May 2008, 12:10
Man, are you seriously trying to justify what deserves a thread in these forums? Let me remind you that "The Great Porn Debate" and "HERE ARE MY TITS" are both helming "I Like HURRRRR" right now.
Title: Re: For the entertainment and general enlightenment of forumers
Post by: Chrasstor on 08 May 2008, 12:33
Well for one thing, "The Great Porn Debate" started with a thread that seemed unprofitable. It was pretty much just plain old, "Yeah, Ron Jeremy was talking to this Christian dude about porn.". The other one is just completely fucking random junk that was trolled on part of someone else. Nobody really looked down upon it, it was kind of silly.

So, my point: these forums aint be serious bidnes. I'm just bored of people being all "FUCK THIS THREAD/NOTHING OF VALUE TO ADD!"

Sorry if my thread has been deemed unsuitable for public consumption. I'll take more care in future. After all I don't want to defile the internet.

My computer is pretty good and it still made my browser freeze. And what Joe said, the picture looked more like an atomically incorrect man in a bikini.

Now I don't want to be the person who points out all the spelling mistakes on the forum. But being atomically incorrect would be damn awesome - instead of carbon, you might have a gas instead and become some kind of incorporeal ghost.

Or you'd just be the person who for some reason had an incorrect number of electrons and weighed over 2 tonne.

I do not want to see men with penises cut off. I think that is a good deal more than whale cock or Hitler. I have done some silly things and not gotten shit for it.
I like going to a place where there is no worry about goatse or males missing members (that alliteration is so good that there should be a porn site for it).

Also: 3-day ban.

Wait, why is that grounds for a ban, even a 3-day one, other than a mod decided they felt like it?

I'm not trying to sound like an aggrieved antagonist of the mods here, since they're pretty good. Just strikes me as unnecessarily arbitrary.

The Mods can't ban people, only the admins can.
If the guy wanted to remove himself from the giant blob of middle-of-the-road posters, I'm all for it, but that was a stupid way to go about it.

Also, this place isn't a democracy (as has been stated on a number of occasions). If the mods or admins or jeph do something, the plebeians here can't really do much other than go with it. We're at the bottom of the ladder, people.

I wouldn't have given a crap about it if it had been one picture, but I was at work and there were too many to scroll past quickly and ended up freezing my browser. I wasn't even using wireless internet and it still did it. I agree with Eris.

Man, spamming pictures of Bodybuilding She-Hulks is tame, what's really criminal are the never-ending quote tunnels that happened in a thread a while back, those will really freeze up a computer, and not even be interesting/mildly disgusting in the process. Of course then again maybe some people have more sensitive stomachs than me. Internet Shit just don't get to me no mo'.

But back on topic, I was linked that on facebook a while back, and it didn't interest me at all, but now that you've posted it, well, it doesn't interest me at all. The being sexually innapropriate with your friends thing is the only mildly interesting one on there, and that just wouldn't work with my friends. The others all sound horribly unimaginative, and are just there to fill up the month, which really is the most criminal thing of all. Of course, May 30th seems to have a rather strange and unsettling theme,International Blame it on _______ Day?  Can't see that one backfiring, can we?

Man, the point is, the dude was being a tool for no reason, so he got temp banned. Whether or not the picture was the most offensive thing that has been posted on the forum is kind of irrelevant.
Title: Re: For the entertainment and general enlightenment of forumers
Post by: Chrasstor on 13 May 2008, 18:03
I think my posts in this thread have been greatly misunderstood. Wasn't porn, but I actually knew I was getting banned for it. I posted it like a bajillion times for Christ's sake.  In reality, I'm just kind of disappointed by the mob mentality here. Most members don't come off as friendly, solely interacting with their own 'crew', so to speak. If I wanted this kind of shit I would just get more involved with stupid high-school communities. Basically, everything here is completely run by rep; some people can get away with anything/have everyone back them up. It's kind of ridiculous for an intarwebz forum to have such a malevolent community.  For those who are all thinking "Man, if you hate the place so much gtfo", I just came back to see the reaction to my post out of boredom.

Also, it's pretty ridiculous that people are saying I was banned for having an opinion. It's pretty obvious that whoever banned me(tl;dr) just generally saw me as a nobody confronting somebodys and afterwards giving a valid reason for a banning. After all, general forum rules would be against that sort of thing... The reason some people were shocked because of my banning leads back to the whole 'some people get away with shit' reality of this forum.

I'm not upset about the banning, I obviously knew I would be banned for posting a picture 1000000... Not because it's the general rules of the forums, but because I don't have the cred to back that kind of behavior up. I know it's not a democracy in which everyone's treated equally(duh), but this whole class-structure shit is still too annoying for me.  Some nice people are brought down by arrogant, pretentious vets, and that's kind of sad.

Go ahead and reply to this post, but don't expect a response to ensue, as I'm done with this place. I know if I read further, even out of curiosity, I'd be tempted to reply and start another on-going argument... So I won't even do that.

Cheers! [/drama]

Chrasstor, I banned you because it looked like a dick thing to do and I know pretty much nothing about you, so I assumed you were doing it as a dick thing to do.  From my perspective you got into an argument with a couple of people about something stupid, then posted a billion instances of a questionable picture.  As for the meat of your complaint, it is composed ot two main sub-points.  Allow me to address them presently:

Point 1: the forums are cliquish.

All forums are cliquish to varying degrees, that is just an inescapable occurrence.  In fact, all social ongoing interactions are cliquish to a certain extent.  On these forums some people get away with things like this due to it being less dickish than it appears, as in in-jokes toward people who'll get the reference.  Some people get away with it because they do it in a way that is funnier/more intelligently executed than posting a borderline porn image (I don't give a fuck what people say, it looked like a tamer pic from a fitness fetish photo shoot to me), and to directly address something someone else said a couple of posts up: some people like Jeph get away with posting whale dicks because it's their goddamn forum and they can do whatever the fuck they want.

Point 2: the forums have a strong negative sentiment.

I do agree that there is a pretty strong negative sentiment on the boards these days.  Do you have any ideas on how to combat it?  I fail to see how your actions could possibly have improved things.

Also, as Han said earlier mods can't ban people, only admins can.  Heather hardly ever comes around here anymore, Cristi doesn't either (and I think has only banned maybe one person ever?), and Ashton is a pretty hands-off admin.  That means that if someone's been banned it's either me or Jeph that's done it.  I can't speak for Jeph's attitude toward bannings (also: his forum, etc), but I will only ever ban people permanently for a damn good reason (joining only to spam, bad trolling, posting porn, constant unabashed asshattery) and am fairly lax with reasons why I'd even give you a temp-ban.
