...and I'm only 17. My generation seems to be so shortsighted sometimes, no offense to the others of my generation here. You guys all have more intelligence than the average high schooler. Damn, I wonder what the hell is wrong with all of us/them. What do you guys think of our generation now, they seem hella ignorant and complacent to me.
-
Maybe a blog would help.
Damn, I'm sorry but I really don't know what else to say.
-
Sorry, I'm just trying to figure it out, wanted some input from you guys. So much for that.
-
It's really not the place, is all. If it's causing you grief, stop and think about it from as many angles as possible. Then accept that you can't change it and move on.
-
You're not a crank. You're just a high school student. Someday you will realize that the ignorance and complacence you complain about is present in a large number of people from all age groups and has very little to do with your generation in particular. That faze usually hits somewhere around sophomore year in college, when you decide that the only people who know what they're talking about are you, your friends, and that one professor who explained whatever your philosophy of the day is. Then somewhere between graduation and 30 you will realize that you and your friends don't know what you're talking about either. I'm told the next step is to either give in to despair or decide that humans are smarter then they look. I haven't hit either of those yet, but I'll keep you posted.

I only thought it was crank-ish because I have 50-year old teachers with the same sentiments.

About their own generation, or yours? (Not that the answer is necessarily different, of course.) Dimmukane and benji have covered it pretty well in any case.

okay, i'm going to go against my better judgment and let you in on the secret of human existence. are you ready?
it has three parts:
1) everyone is always wrong
2) nobody knows anything
3) everything is completely pointless
to clarify: i'm not joking about this. i'm being 100% serious.
just have fun and don't worry about too many things and you should be fine.
-
picture.
You win the prize. Thread done.

it has three parts:
A shorter saying in much the same vein is attributed to an English Prime Minister, Balfour:
"Nothing matters very much, and most things don't matter at all."

The way most of us deal with it is basically by being ignorant of everybody else's ignorance.

Your last sentence refutes 3)! Having fun and not worrying too much IS the point! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
-
Man, "having fun" isn't even the point. The point is just to live, whatever that entails.
-
You mean, keep your body respirating, reproduce, take care of your offspring till they can fend for themselves, then die and be consumed by animals either lower or higher in the foodchain than you?
-
I'd say that the reproducing part is the best.
Topic: People are stupid, realize it, and go on with life. And don't get into political discussions when drunk. That'll get you through life without suicide attempts.
^^

don't get into political discussions when drunk.
It's best to try to avoid them when sober as well.
Am I getting really cynical about politics again? It must be election season.
-
I love drunken politics. It's much easier to be optimistic and think your grand schemes will work when you're rat-arsed, and a long meeting is much easier to get through if you have a pint in front of you.
-
THE POLITICS IS A LIE.
I think everyone gets cranky at people at some point. I seem to remember spending most of last month saying "people are STUPID!" pretty fervently, and meaning it. Doesn't mean you're getting old (I'm lying to you. You're getting old).

I guess that explains all that willy nilly declaring he did.

The first rule of political organising: everything important is decided in the pub. Also, someone will have amazing stories about things that happened in the good old days. And, you can smoke!
