Title: A. Smith's map emporium extraordinaire!
Post by: A. Smith on 29 Jun 2008, 21:29
Hey guys, just wanted to show off a bit of my art. All done in GIMP (for those who don't know, open source software alternative to Photoshop).

The Diffin Strait. First completed map. Resolution is too small, I know. Not based on anything.

Dehlon River. Kinda boring WIP, which I'm not sure I'll complete. It uses pretty much exactly the same techniques as Diffin Strait, although I changed how I do the trees (among other things). Not based on anything real, either.

Wake Island. Now THIS is an interesting map. Still WIP, of course, but I'm varying the techniques and doing much more stuff on my own, rather then mostly following this (http://forum.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=1142) tutorial. This, I'll finish for sure. Based on real life (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cc/Wake_Island.png/300px-Wake_Island.png) Wake Island (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/maps/wq-map.gif) that fans of the Battlefield series have come to know and love.

By the way, that forum (http://forum.cartographersguild.com/) is AMAZING. Tutorials, awesomely detailed maps... it's just great.

Thanks!

But you should check out the "Featured maps" section. THOSE are awesome. This (http://forum.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=1675) looks like it's from a frickin atlas!
