Title: critique please
Post by: nettatea on 14 Aug 2008, 20:04
Please tell me what you think!
Feedback of any kind would be awesome I never really draw .. even if you hate it
By the way I know the line on these looks a little weird, esp. on the second one... that's because I did a drawing w/ pen on paper and don't have a scanner or camera so I used my shitty webcam to take a picture. Then the images were blurry and pixelated looking so I went on photoshop and for the first one I traced the clurry image with a black brush and then deleted the image from under that. Then on the second one I got lazy so I just picked a filter that would make the line thick/dark again. It ended up looking a little weird, and you can still see some of my original mistake lines but I apologize for that !

These are actually pretty rad. I don't have time to give you much constructive criticism at the moment, but man do I like the style. It's very stark. It almost reminds me of the pen drawings in Roald Dahl books, but with a little more of a disturbing, surreal twist.

Thanks! I really like the way Roald Dahl's stories are illustrated :)

Definitely Roald Dahl-esque. Which is awesome, because I loved the illustrations in his books! It is most excellent when people are comfortable enough with their drawing abilities to completely shun realism and go for the absurdist feel, like you have here.
As for constructive criticism, the only thing I can think of is to make sure the lines are smooth, not squiggly like in the first one, with the clothing. It just draws my eyes away from the overall image. Unless, of course, that is what you are going for.
In which case, rock on.

Thanks BrilliantEraser! I thought the quality of the lines was nice by itself but you're right that its distracting to the image as a whole. I hadn't considered that- thanks!

Go all Dr. Katz style.

Looks pretty good. Creepy, kinda, but, yeah. Good. (By the way, thanks for reminding me how to fix images in Photoshop to be less pencily.)
