Okay, Clobs just brought it up in the Blog thread and I figure it's about time to start solidifying some of this stuff.
For those unfamiliar with the idea, here's a brief refresher:
Since Chicago is still close to a year away and not everyone will make it, we made the plan to split it off into three seperate meets. Chicago's still happening, but we were planning two concurrent January meetups in Boston and California. I'm not sure how the west coast plan is going, as I'm not really involved, but the Boston plan has been pretty well solidified:
-The plan is definitively locked as starting Friday, January 16 of 2009. Early attendees are welcome to hang, but the bulk of any plans we set up will be for the weekend of January 16 through 18. The date is non-negotiable at this point, as it is serving two-fold as falling in the middle of most college breaks and also being when we have an international visiting and a forumite who is busy the weekend before and after. Anyone who wants to spend extra time is more than welcome to do so, but that's the major timeframe.
-Current confirmed and locked in attendees are: Myself, Rachel, Shane (Obviously, since we all live around here) and Jimmy the Squid (Who has already procured airfare for the trip).
-There is also a decent list of likelies and rumored individuals. Edith is a high probability and I've heard interest expressed by Linds, Cerny Jon, Phil, Clobs and Gemm (Though Shane is telling me Gemm's not going anymore, any word on this?).
-I will be allowing people to crash at my apartment (Which is in Cambridge, about a mile and a half outside of downtown Boston) and will be guaranteeing that now that I have been able to get the opportunity to re-up my lease. My place is small, but I'll be able to fit a few people if anyone's willing to enjoy the fun of a sleeping bag. A rock, paper, scissor tournament will be held to decide who gets couches and who gets floor, though priority will be given to anyone willing to share as I have two futons.
-Anyone who does not want to risk sleeping on the floor or can afford to stay elsewhere, there are many hotels around the city and they will be at lower than usual rates, since January is considered the off-season for Boston. There is a bed and breakfast literally across the street from my place. There are not a lot of hostels (http://www.hostels.com/us.ma.bo.html) in the area, but there's at least a couple on mass transit.
-Weatherwise, this will be the dead of winter up here. I shit you not, I have encountered a few people on the forum who were unaware that Boston gets winter. January is probably the second coldest month of the year here (It'll range from 0-20 degrees F). Be aware of this if you're interested in attending.
-Current tentative plans include the following:
*Sledding (Weather permitting, though this will involve some driving, probably)
*Cereal Party (Whereby, Eed and Gemm were planning to buy as many boxes of cereal as they can afford and mix it all together to see how it goes)
*Chicken party (Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with Chick-Fil-A. Any orders of $100 or more can be delivered and I am totally doing this)
*Hot cocoa and movies at my apartment (With my projector and surround sound, this should be fun)
*Video games and crap (For those inclined, I have an Xbox 360 and a Wii hooked to said projector)
*Ice skating (There's a few great ponds in the various parks around)
*Shopping (There's some excellent shopping in the area)
This is now less than four months away, so I want to get a headcount so we can all start figuring out transportation and sleeping arrangements. I'm only going to be able to fit so many people in my apartment.
Who's interested?
-
I forgot about the cereal party! Now I have to go.
Basically it's on and off for me, depending on whether I can get a cheap last minute flight, and earn enough money at my new job for said cheap last minute flight. I'll try my hardest but there's no promises.
-
I know I have said this before and flaked but this is a possibility for me. I will be figuring things out to see if it can happen.
-
I don't really have a choice, do I? Hell of being there.
-
I am pretty sure I will be there. Especially so if I get hired at the place I interviewed at today. And from talking a little bit to Edith, she'd be driving me, Cerny Jon, and Adam. I dunno about lodging yet, because I may have a friend co-oping out there and I might be able to stay with her. (I don't know yet and don't want to ask until I know what's going on with her.)
I hope it snows a lot, because I have to go sledding. Because I am 22 and have never been sledding because I am super weird.
-
I'm a maybe right now, as I won't know what my financial situation will be like until November, but you all will be the first to know.
-
i assumed a california meetup was not happening because i figured there aren't enough people that are interested enough. PM me if i'm wrong... but i doubt i am.
-
Well um yknow
maybe
-
I really want to go, but I just don't know if its going to happen.
I will try though!
-
I'm a definite yes, weather permitting. I will be driving. I drive a small car - we could fit 5 people but they'd have to pack light - backpacks not suitcases. If other people are riding with me (Cerny Jon, Linds and Adam have first dibs because we've talked about it before) I'd want them to kick in for gas money and if anyone else can drive manual shift, that'd be good, so that's a good reason to twist Adam's arm for that. Also, I know Cerny Jon doesn't want to miss much (or any?) class so we'd basically be driving there, hanging out with no sleep, then driving back.
Also, the cereal party is NOT mixing the cereal together. It is tasting bunches of kinds to see what tastes best and basically making ourselves sick on sugary grains with marshmallows and junk in them.
Also, I believe I was promised mittens. Can anyone confirm?
-
i would just like to remind everyone that the boston meetup is not the main meetup for next year. the main meetup will be held in august in chicago. the boston meetup was intended to be a regional meet, (hopefully) meaning low cost for people attending.
if your funds will allow you only one or the other, please choose the main meet in chicago.
-
I, having paid for my tickets last week, am most definitely coming. I get there at about 11pm on January 15 and as I understand it I am crashing at Jon's for the whole time. I will wrestle anyone and everyone for somewhere soft and warm to sleep and also to kill time, whichever comes up first.
Also it is not funds that prevent me from going to Chicago, it is my uni timetable.
-
Also, everyone that goes to Boston will be cursed!
-
Also, there's a 75% chance of getting syphilis from Jon's apartment.
-
And only a 12.7% chance of catching it from Ozy in Chicago.
Your odds are better next summer!
-
I'd want them to kick in for gas money and if anyone else can drive manual shift, that'd be good, so that's a good reason to twist Adam's arm for that.
Basically, it depends on how I do at this audition.
Bostoncon, you are my silver metal!
-
Unfortunately, me and Kat will not be making it to Boston. This sucks a lot, but at least we will not be getting gonasyphilAIDS from Jon's apartment.
I can almost guarantee making it to Chicago though, especially after the ridiculously successful Toronto. I am NOT missing out on that unless terrible terrible things occur.
-
Jameroozi, If you do not make it back for the Sydney meetup I will KICK YOUR ASS.
-
I'm back in sydney on the 29th I think.
-
Chicago's definitely a no for me, because if I'm going anywhere next summer, it's San Francisco pride, my friends made me promise them. Also in January I'd be doing a few days in NYC too, to go see my friend Marcus so it's the perfect meet for me to go to, if I can afford it.
I'm crossing my fingers.

RE: Jon's apartment and Mass Transit
Although Cambridge is a little bit outside of the city, it's very well served by public transport. Jon's apartment is on a street intersecting Massachusetts Avenue, and the Central Square T station (Red Line) is maybe a five minute walk from his front door. Harvard Square is about a 20 minute walk..ish (the one time I walked there I stopped at a few shops), and there are busses running along Mass. Ave as well.
Basically, he's in a pretty good spot if you want to get around the city. The Red Line connects to every other T line aside from blue (Green at Park Street, Orange at Downtown Crossing, Silver at South Station), though why you'd want to be on the Blue Line is beside me (unless you're going to the aquarium).
-
Are you sure you pissed on every last inch of their bonfire there, Yelley?
i'm not trying to ruin everyone's fun! i'm just hoping that people don't forget about the main meetup and that we can get an even larger turnout this year. HEY GUYS, YOU SHOULD ALL GO TO BOSTON. but only if you can also afford chicago or you definitely can't make chicago at all
-
Probably won't go to Boston, seeing as how Google Maps says it is an 11 hour drive, but I might be going to Chicago.
-
I can afford to go to both, as long as the weather isn't so totally crappy that a weekend road trip to Boston becomes ridiculous.
I will absolutely for sure be in Chicago. No question.
No one has answered me about the mittens. There better be mittens. In Boston. Which this thread is about.
-
Mittens will be provided.
I also came up with a new activity that would be pretty effectively awesome, but I forgot what it was.
-
I'm thinking I might go. Boston is about 9 hours from here. I need to transfer in New York City. I might come to the Chicago meet up just because I've never been to Chicago. The cold weather shouldn't bother me, because I'm Canadian.
The whole thing is defiantly something to think about.
-
Mittens will be provided.

Shower Racing World Cup.
-
:O
-
Shower Racing World Cup.
The odds of that actually happening, considering the strain that would probably put on my plumbing, are between slim and nil.
-
Apparently I can make the whole round trip on the Greyhound for little more than a hundred dollars. This is severely tempting...
-
IF THE TRIP IS 17 HOURS OVERNIGHT YOU'LL REGRET IT TO YOUR DYING DAY.
I'm going, provided I can convince my parent's to let me drive my pontiac to Boston, find free parking and camp out at Jon's. I've just quit my paying job to work at an unpaid internship and won't be making any kind of money until Winter break towards the end of December, but hopefully somehow I can scrounge up the money?
-
I really want to go to this, I can also try and provide hotel rooms for this too. I've never been to Boston, I hear it's nice there. They have this mythical stuff called snow?
I also want to meet more of you people.
-
So, what is the current situation with places to stay during this? Still space in people's appartments?
-
That's someting that needs figuring out. No way I'll be able to accommodate everyone going,so something will need to be done aout a hostel or hotel.
-
If we can find a place like the Toronto hostel or somewhere near the quality, I'm down with a hostel. The last one left a good impression.
I need to knit myself a hat that actually matches my coat. I can make hats for people who want them, for a price. Price equals the purchaser's soul. This is non-negotiable. Side effects may include loss of emotion, the ability to give a damn, and general poor behavior. Please consult your physician before selling your soul.
-
I already have most of those side-effects. One hat, please!
-
Heh heh heh.
-
As far as lodging goes, ignoring hostels for the moment, how many people can be taked in with people already living in the area? And how many people are planning on coming in from far away?
-
As far as I know, I am the only QCer living in metro Boston and I'm all but certain I'm the only forum regular who lives here and knows anyone well enough to bring in guests for the weekend.
Only three people attending won't be making a bit of a journey: Shane, Rachel and myself. Shane lives in Western MA and Rachel lives in Southern MA and is here routinely anyway. I think the next closest probable from there is Phil down in Maryland (Tyler's in Connecticut, but he apparently doesn't tend to commit until last minute on these things). The furthest person coming is Jimmy from Australia.
Definitively, the list of people confirmed for crashing at my apartment is as follows:
Rachel, for obvious reasons.
Shane, because I know him personally and have him over routinely.
Jimmy, because he planned his vacation around crashing here and he's spending the most money to get up here.
Eed, because both Rachel and I talk to her regularly.
Gemm, if she attends, because she's traveling a fair distance too.
I'll probably be squeezing Phil, Jon and Linds in too because I offered them a spot months ago. I'm not sure I'll be able to fit much of anyone else in there, my apartment's rather small.
-
You're missing your chance, Jon! Kick Paul out, put some people in his room, and after Bostoncon, you can put the grill in there and open up a restaurant.
-
I retract my statement about the car, a bus trip to Connecticut wouldn't be half as bad as the trip was to Tronno, and it would probably be cheaper than taking a car. Not to mention I'd go by daylight hours this time so at least it would have an interesting view. Its amazing how ghostly small-towns in Up-state New York look at 3 am. When the bus stop also happens to be the local Burger King.
-
Jon I have no idea if I am attending (hopefully confirming this soon) but if I do could you perhaps squeeze in one more person? (unless anyone else is coming and getting a hotel room.)
-
I should be going, and I guess if I can't fit in with Jon, I'll be getting a hotel room.
-
You're missing your chance, Jon! Kick Paul out, put some people in his room, and after Bostoncon, you can put the grill in there and open up a restaurant.
Ha!
-
I definitely can't come now because my bosses are wankers and have allocated me holiday that I don't even want in December for some fucked up reason. So yeah, I've been screwed out of this. Bummer.
-
Booo. We'll miss you.
-
You better use this time to go see Buzzcocks, Gemm. *shakes fist*
-
I can't, dude, how many times?!
-
Did you happen to ask/tell your employer that you've bought tickets to America for January (whether or not that is actually the case)?
-
Someone on this goddamned forum better. =(
-
Hey Edith, what days were we all going to leave and come back on? Also, since I'm the farthest south, do you want me to hop a bus to Columbus or Cleveland or something?
(Oh hey, 4000.)
-
Even though we already talked this through in gabbly, I figured I'd post this so if anyone else wants to drive with us it will be possible.
Jon (cerny) is pretty sure he can't make it now.
I haven't heard from Adam in a while and he had never totally committed to the trip, so I am guessing he probably won't make it either.
That leaves you and me. If the weather is good, I'll come get you and we'll take a southerly route. If the weather is bad, it'll be better to drive a northern route, because they know how to clear roads better in the north and also there will be less potential for ice storms, so we'll meet in Cleveland or Columbus.
I am off work Jan 15-21 so let me know when you know your dates in case anyone else decides to go with us.
-
And if all goes well, the two of you can pick me up on the way?
-
If we take the northern route then that should be possible. It might be rather last minute by the time we know, though, are you going to be okay with that?
-
What would you mean by "northern route"? Route 2? Actually, if you took 2 instead of 90, you'd run right through my town.
As long as you can let me know before that Thursday afternoon, I'm fine. I can snag the 2:30 bus out of Pittsfield if you can't pick me up.
-
northern route means driving along the great lakes
southern route means cutting across the country further south and coming up along the east coast
I don't know what route 2 is, and I can assure you that I will not be taking it
-
We're taking easy routes so Lindsey doesn't kill Edith's car. :-D
-

It's slower than the interstates and brings you right into Cambridge. I would suggest 95 or 90 over it in a second.
-
So I have pretty much decided I probably won't be attending. It's a long ways away and I'd have to miss probably at least two days of school, which I really can't do. I'll totally be at chicago though!
-
School, what a lame excuse. (Not really. Education is important.)
-
Pfft. I'm a college dropout and look at me. I have almost three thousand posts.
-
I go to a community college and I have nearly 4000! I think I'm a little better than you, Jon.
-
Yeah, but you've been here over a year longer than me. I'm clearly more successful than you are.
-
I have a bachelors and have over 4000! SO THERE.
-
You only have more posts than I do because they deleted half of the Mediafire thread.
-
I, can no longer make it to Boston. This whole internship thing has left me so broke, so broke guys. I won't even be able to work over winter break because I'm going to down texas for an ungodly amount of time in December (wow, never thought I'd say that.) So yeah, sorry.
-
Well I am having airfarewatchdog.com watch for cheap flights to Boston. If they find anything for under $200 (long shot, I know) I could possibly still make this. I give it about a 5-10% chance.
-
5-10% is better than 0.
-
I have nearly 500 posts and make more money than most of you.
Did I do it rite?
-
Not until you send me some of that money.
-
I'm coming to Boston from another country. A country that isn't even close to the country that Boston is in. I will have a cool, crazy foreign accent (and passport). Clearly, I am the most dedicated.
-

I'M DA FOREIGNER
I HAVE DIFFERENT CUSTOMS TO YOU
LOOK AT MY CRAZY PASSPORT

I can fake a decent accent, and fake an even better passport.
-
I have nearly 500 posts and make more money than most of you.
Did I do it rite?
Yes, because you are also more awesome.
-
Edith's awesome cannot be quantified by her post count, but must be measured in cubic metres (much like her walk in baby room).
-
Just wondering what the status of all this is? Who will be there, and who won't be? Is there extra spaces for people to stay, or will hotels be in order?

As far as I know the people I just listed all either live in or near enough to Boston or have arranged lodging. I think the floor space at Jon's is all gone, so if you plan to go, a hotel/hostel/B&B situation would be best. Obsessions can recommend places that are close to where everyone else is staying if you PM him.
-
There's a B&B RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from Jon's apartment building, actually. Pretty convenient!
-
True true, it's the Harding House
http://www.cambridgeinns.com/harding/
-
Definitely Tyler. Mark it down folks. I am committing.
-
Does this mean I don't have to call and remind you on the 17th?
-
No, you certainly still do.
-
Hmmm, I just realized how much fun I would have getting home the 19th if I was going to this.
inauguration
-
I wish I could see the inauguration, but I'm already using up my vacation days I've earned for Boston.
2.5 weeks! Holy crap!
Edith, how do you want to go about this? Should I take a bus to you or Cleveland or what? I can do that Weds after work or super early Thursday morning.
-
Let's find out for sure whether Jon is in or out. PAGING CERNUNNOS TO THIS THREAD.
Edit: If Jon is going, then we could both go to Cleveland and crash there Wednesday after work and be 3 hours closer when we start out. If he isn't going to go, maybe he'd let us crash there anyway?
-
That'd be nice. Pleeeeeeeeease?

Yeah, but Shane has been downgraded to a ProbablyShane.
Can you sell the records back?
-
No, I got most of them on eBay. =/
Upgrade me. One way or another, I am going to this. I'm not pulling another Tronnocon on you guys. And there's also no fucking way I'm not going back to Boston until APRIL.
-
Okay, shane is now claiming to be DefinitelyShane and we're going to try to believe him. DON'T KILL MY DREAMS AGAIN, MAN.
-
Believe me, Eed. I will do anything to get out of this shithole for a weekend.
-
Anything?
We should talk.
-
Shane, if you don't come down, I'm disowning you.
-
I'll be there, Rachel.
-
Anything?
We should talk.
Oh don't you dare. You are all mine.
-
Anything?
We should talk.
I am not going to Chicago just so you can headbutt me.
-
I wish I could see the inauguration, but I'm already using up my vacation days I've earned for Boston.
I also wish I could also be in DC with 2 million other people.
Like being in the city that day would be the most awful thing I can think of.
-
Edith, what day were we coming back, Sunday or Monday?
-
Say Monday!
-
Monday Monday Monday. I don't have class until Tuesday.
-
Monday Monday, bah dah bah dah dah dah.
-
I may have done that song for karaoke on Christmas Eve. I remember MTA for sure, but not that one.
-
Y'all settle down, we're driving back Monday. If we leave by 6 am, we can get back to Cinti by 10 or 11 pm. I hope.
I'll crash with Linds on Monday night and roll back here on Tuesday for work Wednesday.
Sound good?
-
Sounds good to me. I just needed to know, because they scheduled me for that Monday. So I can ask to trade that day for the following Saturday!
-
Y'all settle down, we're driving back Monday. If we leave by 6 am, we can get back to Cinti by 10 or 11 pm. I hope.
Is that including dropping me off?
-
You said it's 10 minutes out of the way, right? If so, then yes.
-
Hope you guys have a fun time. Boston is trill.
-
You said it's 10 minutes out of the way, right? If so, then yes.
If you take 2. If you take 90, i'm a good 30 minutes north. Though I could probably meet you guys in Pittsfield.
-
On the way in it should be no problem to come get you in N.A. On the way home, leaving you in Pittsfield might make more sense so we can get Linds home in time to sleep.
-
I would prefer to be home before midnight, since I have to work Tuesday. ^_^
Sooooooo, our leg of the trip. I just looked at the bus schedules and none of them have me leaving and arriving at reasonable times. (Meaning in the middle of the night or the middle of the day.) But I CAN get up to Columbus or Cleveland at reasonable times in the morning. I can get to Columbus by 8:10am and Cleveland by 11am, both on Thursday. There's also the option of me going to Indianapolis Wednesday night and getting there around 10:30pm.
Let me know what's easiest for you.
-
Hey everyone, since this is basically in a weeks time we should maybe organize some things?
I'm getting into Boston Logan International at roughly 11:05pm on Thursday the 15th of January. Is anyone meeting me there or am I getting some kind of taxi cab to Jon's place? I feel this is the kind of thing I should know.
-
Jon and I will meet you at the airport. Haven't figured out whether we're taking the train back or if we'll just use my car yet. The train is easier but driving is faster. We'll see.
-
I'll pm both you and jon my flight numbers and whatnot so you know where I'll be coming out.
Prepare to be hugged.
All of you.
-
Car will be faster, but I recommend T, unless your flight ends up delayed. 11:05 is plenty of time to catch the subway back and the tolls to get to the airport are fucking ridiculous (Like $7 each way now, I think). Even if you'[re delayed by like half an hour, if we can get to South Station via the silver line before the T shuts down, taking a cab back to my place would still probably cost less than actually driving there.
Unless you've got like eight billion bags, that is. If you'[re traveling with anything less than three or four bags (Easily carried between the three of us), we'll be fine on public transit.
-
I think between the three of us we can handle one reasonably sized suitcase and a messenger bag.
-
That works. I'm so excited!!!
-
About Edith, Shane, and I, we don't know exactly what time we will be arriving, but if we were to arrive Thursday night instead of Friday morning, is this okay?
Also, I dunno what the sleeping arrangements are, but do I need to bring a sleeping bag or something?
-
Thursday is absolutely fine, and Jon would recommend a sleeping bag. I'm not sure who gets which futon/loveseat, so better to play it safe.
-
I am NOT sleeping on that small-ass loveseat. It fucks with my spine and I have to de-compress for an hour or so when I wake up.
-
If Rachel can show me where to buy a few supplies when we park the cars on Friday morning, I would be happy to make breakfast for everybody.
Not if I've had insufficient sleep on a small-ass loveseat, though.
-
You're shorter than me, Eed. It might actually work out for you.
-
There's a Whole Foods right down the street from Jon's place. I'm sure we'll find something. OR I could go to the store the night before. Make me a list, lady!
-
Okay!
-
I can help cook, too!
(And if no one wants the loveseat, I'll take it. :-D)
Rachel, I've never been dancing, so let me know what kind of clothes to bring, because I haven't the slightest clue.
-
I'm trying to figure out where we're going first. My friend suggested a certain place, but they require "throwback attire" for the night we're looking to go. I think that means early 90s? I have no idea, so I'm trying to figure it out.
-
Oh god....you're not talking "My So Called 90's Night" out in Allston are you? Please say no, because I would be legitimately tempted to borrow some flannel from Chad and go to that.
-
That would be awesome. I can look like I fell out of the 90s.
-
Look like? I *did* fall out of the 90's!
PLEAAAASE, let's ALL go to this, Rachel! Please?
-
I am so sad I am not allowed out on ladies night.
-
We could just sit in my apartment playing games from the nineties listening to all the terrible music we've both admitted to listening to in the nineties, if you'd like.
-
Rachel, I know I sent you a list but we should shop on Friday morning, don't you think? That way we'll have an accurate head count and be able to change our minds and just go out for brunch if we decide to. Y/N
-
Look like? I *did* fall out of the 90's!
PLEAAAASE, let's ALL go to this, Rachel! Please?
Well, so did I! And yes, I think this needs to happen.
-
I'm fine with that. I just figured the guys wouldn't have an interest in dancing, but hey, that's cool.
Also, Eed, I'll probably grab at least the basics because Jon has NO FOOD at all, and I'm not sure grocery stores will be open by the time we need to move our cars.
This is the place we'll be going to. It's got a $4 cover, from what I read, and all of the reviews are great. (the DJ boycotted the Macarena!)

-
We could just sit in my apartment playing games from the nineties listening to all the terrible music we've both admitted to listening to in the nineties, if you'd like.
Can we at least drink recent beer?
-
Or you could just come with us.
-
Clubs are not my thing, man. =/
-
Even Jon says he's coming out, now. Come on... be fun!
-
Lindsey, what is the saddest thing? Shane, Shane, Shane. It is a guy who will turn down the internet because they want to shake their butts.
C'mon. I'll buy you a drink. Wink wink, nudge nudge.
-
Pleeeease, Shane? Come be awkward with us!
-
C'mon. I'll buy you a drink. Wink wink, nudge nudge.
Ooh la la. And I just bought those plaid flannel shirts, too! I GUESS I AM IN.
-
Yaaaaaay! I need to dig and see if I still have my NSYNC shirt... (It was from elementary school. Don't make fun of me.)
-
Oh man I used to have one of those. Luckily I think we cut it up to use for rags in the barn.
-
Nope, no NSYNC shirt. But I do have oversized flannels, cut off cargos, and those super wide leg pants. You know, the ones so wide, the bottom of the pant leg is probably as big as your hips? Yes, those pants. Yeah, I don't know why I wore those either.
-
Oh man do you have the ones that zip off at the knee? Or with bungee cord type things?
-
I have one of each. The ones with the zippers are faaar too big now, but the ones with bungee cords still fit.
-
I'm so glad I spent most of the nineties being too young to remember it now.
-
I spent most of the nineties wearing more or less the same clothes as I do now. So I guess that means that I'm all set for this?
-
Hey guys, my computer is making god awful noises because of the stupid cd/dvd drive, so I'm not going to be using it again until Monday, when I'm getting the damn thing taken out of my computer. (I'm at work now.) So if anything important pops up, give me a call/text.
-
Authentic 1990s (98 or 99ish) Birdhouse Skateboards t-shirt (that still fits?!)..CHECK.
-
Ok, I got my bus ticket to Columbus last night. I will be arriving there at 8:10 (there being 111 E Town St, 43215). And it turns out that I have to be at the station here by 5am to get my ticket, so I hope I'm not practically a zombie when I get to Columbus. (Hopefully, I'l ba able to nap on the bus.)
-
Yeah, I am not riding with you if you're going to be a zombie and trying to eat me.
-
Ok, I mean more like animated corpse than flesh eating zombie. Humans do not sound very delicious, thanks for your faith in me.
-
Oh, good. I was going to pack a baseball bat in my suitcase if it were the latter.
-
How many fucking times do I have to tell you people how shitty of a weapon a baseball bat is for fighting off zombies outside of very temporary circumstances?
-
I don't own a gun, Jon.
-
Ok, I mean more like animated corpse than flesh eating zombie. Humans do not sound very delicious, thanks for your faith in me.
That is what you say now, but just wait until it goes into effect. Human flesh will look like chocolate cake.
-
A gun is an impractical weapon to get a hold of. A crowbar would be ideal to have in a pinch and is one of the more versatile weapons one could carry in a zombie holocaust.
-
I have a crowbar at work. You can not have it to kill me.
And I retract the whole zombie thing. You guys are NOT going to have an excuse to chase me around the city with a crowbar/bat claiming that I eat brains.
-
Chicago's definitely a no for me, because if I'm going anywhere next summer, it's San Francisco pride, my friends made me promise them. Also in January I'd be doing a few days in NYC too, to go see my friend Marcus so it's the perfect meet for me to go to, if I can afford it.
I'm crossing my fingers.
I hope I am not replying to this too late but, when will you be in NYC?
I'll PM you my number in a sec if you'd like to meet up.
-
Gene, I might be down there in mid-March. Can we snoop around guitar shops if so?
-
Certainly.
-
Sadly you are a bit late Gene, but I swear to god I will get to NYC before I go to uni in September. I'ma try and get some stuff sorted out in the next few months and see when I can actually afford to go.
-
Sweet.
-
NYC? Mid march?
Fuck that, MonoCon May 8th 2009 BE THERE!
-
Watching the house with a couple of friends the weekend this is happening. I think I might have one dressed up as a shadow and have the other talk obnoxiously about comic books nobody cares about just so I can have the Bostoncon experience. We will also eat cereal.
-
NYC? Mid march?
Fuck that, MonoCon May 8th 2009 BE THERE!
Finals, Sean. I'd love to, but I gotta be all studious this semester and boost my GPA. (Mid-March is my spring break)
-
Guys, are we still having a chicken party this weekend? Jon suggested it a long time ago and i think it's a great idea, but I wanted to make sure everyone else was still in on it, too.
-
Since last March, I don't think there's been a time I've been in town and Jon hasn't forced CFA on me. We better be having it!
-
If we are, we will need to do it Saturday, meaning we will need to establish what we want Friday. We need to order 24 hours in advance and the minimum order needs to be $100, which is easily hittable for the group of us attending (I am anticipating fuck tons of nuggets and sandwiches).
Considering my obsession with Chick-Fil-A, I'm obviously in, who else is interested?
-
I think I can throw in $10 or $15, probably.
-
Man, if they're delivering, I'm stocking up. Count me for 5 sandwiches and some nuggets.
-
I wanted to aim for delivery to save us the trouble of all eight of us having to take the bus up there together. We've got to drop $100 between us all minimum, but I don't foresee that being a problem, especially considering the two of us are likely to drop $20 a piece each.
-
If we get close, I'll buy the difference and just save the chicken for later. We know how well it reheats. I'd rather pay an extra $10 for more food than spend 3 hours in travel in the cold. Blegh.
-
I'm in. CFA is good stuff. I think I can order $10 in stuff at least.
-
Guys, I am now only questionable for Boston. My temperature at this moment is 102.5. I am not sure if this is a horrid fever or the flu, but it is still very much in question whether I will be better by Friday.
-
Oh Noes, Tyler! I hope you do get better!
I don't know what a chicken party is, but sure. Count me in. There will be potatoes, right?
-
Tyler, get some rest. Drink lots of fluids. NOW. You must be well by Friday! You've got time!!!
Also, Eed, I'm not sure if CFA has mashed potatoes, but they do have waffle fries and they're delicious!!
-
I do not believe they deliver waffle fries for some reason.
-
I've had terrible waffle fries there, but I've also had the best waffle fries of my life there, so I'm going to assume the terrible time was the exception. Yes, against my better judgement I will commit to spending godawful amounts of money on fast food.
-
Oh. I'm bringing a towel- I assume Jon doesn't have enough for all of us.
-
Double checked and confirmed, for some weird reason, they will not deliver fries.
In terms of towels, bring your own. I don't want you grubby fucks touching mine.
-
They probably get nasty if you let them sit out. That's probably what had happened to the ones I had that convinced me that CFA was shit. Until Jon had me try again.
-
Damn. I wanted fries. Ok, I guess we'll be making our own potato product.
Oh, I have a shit ton of shampoo and conditioner at Jon's, in case anyone doesn't want to pack any and risk it leaking.
-
They probably get nasty if you let them sit out.
This sentence is amusing if you imagine that Eed is talking about towels.
-
Eed - So it looks like the weather in Columbus is pretty shit right now and I know they've closed at least one highway up there, so drive safely! If something happens tonight, just give me a call and if something's still wonky in the morning with my bus, I'll call you, too.
And that's good to know about towels. I will make sure to pack one.
-
It was bad here earlier but it's better now so I'm heading out now.
-
If the snow ruins my meetup, I'm going to burn the entire fucking forum down.
Either that or take pictures of myself playing four person board games all by myself and looking sad.
I might do that anyway, just so I can feel like an artist or something.
-
Do it ala Seinfeld.
-
If I do manage to rest and heal up for this in time, would it be possible to leave my car in North Adams somewhere and ride into Boston with you guys? I am all about minimizing road time for me if I still have residual dizziness.
-
We'll make it work. Call me.
-
Feel better, Tyler!
-
We have all eaten breakfast. It was tasty.
More to come.
-
That is because I make fantastic eggs, and Rachel makes fantastic bacon. And because English muffins are delicious.
-
:[
-
The eggs were pretty delicious. Also American bacon is shaped weird.
Quite obviously I arrived ok.
And I really wish my internet hadn't broken before I left because then I would have had the foresight to bring my own towels. Now I'll have to demand some of Jon.
-
Taylor, whatever it is you are doing, can you come visit us one day for a few hours?
-
And bring some orange juice with you.
-
I'm in Pennsylvania watching my house and I don't have orange juice. I'm sure I could try mailing you some cranberry but that's pretty much the best I can do.
-
ITT: Fukken' Pennsylvania
-
Update part deux: Went shopping today. Daniel stopped by for a while. We just ordered an assload of Chick-Fil-A for tomorrow night.
(if you watch the news this weekend and hear about a coup in Iceland, he is the culprit)
-
Jimmy did you say you were gonna stop by New York possibly?
'Cause you should do that.
-
I hope you guys are all taking good care of my Squiddy.
Hey dude, the Internet wasn't broken, for some reason the bill didn't get paid and they disconnected us. I had to ring up and spend three hours sorting it all out and put it on HOUSEMATE X's credit card instead.
-
Yes we are, Lunchy! He's in one piece still.
-
Jon's asking him nonstop questions about Australian life, though.
-
Hey, Jimmy, do they have bad nineties music in Australia?
-
From eed:
Sunday's fine. I'll send a PM with my phone number, and you can text us or whatever.
Side note: Shane, Rachel, Jon, and Jimmy really want to hang out with you as well. Maybe we can meet up with them after shopping, for a bite to eat?
-
I am an early riser, Ally. I dunno what time everyone else will be up, but I can join you three (or four) on this yarnstravaganza. Apparently they're teaching me to knit tomorrow, anyway!
-
Boston is trill.
Fuckin' stunna. WICKED PISSAH.
-
Update:
Ladies are looking hot! Men are getting beer. Going to do karaoke!!!
-
I rolled my ankle last night when we were leaving karaoke, and right now moving about is pretty unfun and excruciating.
Ally, I'll still try to limp along to Yarnfest, but we'll see. There's no way in hell I can go skating this afternoon.
-
Today: Ally, Jimmy, Edith, Linds and I went to lunch in Central Square and looked around shops. It was a really good time.
(thanks for coming up, Ally! You're wicked nice.)
-
This just in: Linds is allergic to nipple.
-
I am really just allergic to nickel, but hey, it was a good verbal typo.
-
Photo dump!

Man Linds, I had totally thought you put those two photos of Jimmy looking really really bored in twice on purpose.
-
i am so jealous of the snowwww!!!!
-
Ally's back,
Those Harvard Square pictures are GREAT, Linds.
-
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/blushingsapphire/bostoncon%202009/bums.jpg?t=1232665478)
the ladies, including my meatlife friend, dyana!
-
It's the interbutts.
-
I think the four of us were also buzzed at this point, because it sure didn't take long once we got to the karaoke bar to go from being buzzed to outright drunk.
-
In some cases, spilling-bourbon-on-jimmy's-scarf-and-kissing-the-karaoke-man drunk. Is that another word for circus drunk?
-
Don't forget you were hell of groping my ass before we even WENT to karaoke.
(unf, unf)
-
I think that was Friday night. And I was groping your AND Jon's butts to prove a point. You both claimed not to have asses, when clearly you both do. And both are grope-able.
-
Yeah, but you kept grabbin' at my ass even after you made that point. :-D
And Linds', if memory serves..
(what I am trying to say is that you are a grope ninja, eed)
-
I have absolutely no recollection of further gropage, or of Linds-related gropage.
I think you're making it up.
-
you were drinking
-
She didn't grope Linds, I don't think. Was she even in the room?
-
You both claimed not to have asses, when clearly you both do.
I made absolutely no such claim. My claim was that I got a portion of what should be Shane's ass. I happen to think I have a rather fantastic ass considering my body type.
Seriously, though, Eed...Shane has no ass.
-
Oh my god you guys how awesome is snow
-
Snow sucks! I makes it hard for you to drive you car. Then it melts a little and the melty stuff freezes and it makes it even harder for you to drive your car. Sure, it is pretty, but it is such a pain.
-
You are missing something inside, Liz
-
Dear Dovey,
I would like to extend to you the invitation to come live with me in North Dakota for the full extent of winter. Pleas arrive in late October and be prepared to stay until April. I am sure you will still love the snow by the time you leave Fargo and you will be able to tell all of your friends about how lovely it is here.
Thank you, and I await your RSVP eagerly.
Cordially,
Liz
-
I can honestly say being around Jimmy and his excitement over snow gave me a new appreciation of it while I was in Boston. But, that slush crap ruined my boots and I will probably never enjoy driving in it, but hey.
I have absolutely no recollection of further gropage, or of Linds-related gropage.
I think you're making it up.
You poked my butt, but it was because I said you could.
-
Yeah, snow was fun around Jimmy, but then I drove home from work a couple days ago and almost got into a major accident because my car slid off my side of the road. I maintain that snow is awful.
-
Jimmy made me love snow again. Then having to shovel it made me hate it.
(I miss hanging out with someone with a goofy accent..)
-
Linds doesn't talk THAT weird.
-
I meant you!
(I tried watching House to get a fix last night, but Jimmy and Chase sound nothing alike)
-
Thats why we have skype, shane.
-
Yeah, but at least with House I get to oggle Thirteen and Cameron.
