Take a look at people last.fm account pages and recommend artists for them. If you dont like the idea just let the thread die lol. Ill start it off.

Please please please dont look at overall. I used to be into alot of mass produced bands like SOAD, Saliva and Greenday. *cringes*
Take a look at the last 7 days or so.

At the risk of stating the obvious, isn't this one of the things that last.fm does itself.../

I like how you say "used to" even though the first two bands you mentioned rank high on your 3 Month charts, too.
I didn't even know that people who like numetal and Nickelback use last.FM and/or like QC.

You sound like someone managed to change your total opinion on music for someone else's in about a week.
-
He's been on the boards for about a week. Guys. Congratulations.
Although, I personally have nothing against Green Day's Dookie.
Also, @ Silent, you should try some Broken Social Scene.
-
I would suggest something with a heavy guitar sound, maybe Boris or 35007

Thhis thread could have been so good. There are a good number of forumites who are not Khar that I would like on my last.fm buddy list.
-
We had a last.fm name thread recently!
It was here! (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,21494.0.html)
-
Oh crap yes I just raped that thread.
-
Your musical compatibility with Auravis is SUPER.
!!!
-
Dude, Jens and I are SUPER too!
-
Oh man we are team SUPER!
-
I am SUPER with you guys too! Yesssss.
-
SUPER
-
Hey guys I am gonna be a party pooper so i hope you don't mind.
Anyway is it just me or has last.fm relaxed their compatibility ratings? Danny pointed out to me we went from low to very high in a matter of days and then I looked at everyone i was friends with and i had gone to at least medium but usually high when i had been low/maybe medium.
-
I noticed the same thing. They seem to have changed the way they check compatibility as they now tell you the bands you are most compatible with rather than just the overall score.
What is this about? I don't know but it seems strange as i know i am not musically compatible with some friends but it says i am.
Also, this is my last.fm
www.last.fm/user/livbarrob
I put it on the other thread aswell but for anybody who didn't see it, now you do.
-
A lot of my musix isn't represented here though because I tend to use a CD player in my room, so I guess about a third or so of the music I listen to isn't being counted, and I tend to prefer different stuff when I am in my room (reading or doing homework).
And yet you've still managed to rack up 20,000+ plays in 7 months. Is there any part of your day where you are not listening to music?
EDIT: By a very rough calculation you listen to about 95 songs a day. Holy fuck, man.

I am not the person you recommended it to, but this is a good album you posted, and a good thing you did posting it.

I'm glad someone liked it. I will someday get around to finding all Les Savy Fav's stuff and adding it to the mediafire thread. :D

#1. Stop listening to Death Cab for Cutie
Alternatives include Broken Social Scene, The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Postal Service (Ben Gibbard but much better)
-
If it wasn't for you, I'd still think I listened to music I liked. What the fuck.
-
Ok, maybe stop listening was a bit over the top. Tone down and try alternatives aswell is more what i meant, there are lots of other bands out there.
Sorry.

Guys, I have a question. Lately when I have been reading the shouts or whatever they are called on band profiles, I have noticed people posting "his music is the hipster garbage i've ever heard" with varying degrees of proper spelling.
Is this like a Last.fm meme? Like that "doesn't afraid of anything" thing?

I would like you to increase your Andrew Bird play count 12 fold. I'm uploading Armchair Apocrypha now.
Michaelicious, is English not your first language or did you type that in a real hurry?

Duly noted. This shall be my penance.

Andrew Bird for you.

you guys are welcome to look at my page and give me suggestions, though I am pretty much loving EVERYTHING uploaded on the mediafire thread.

You're joking right?

To the_pied_piper
ya i probably do listen to way to much death cab, its a fairly band i just got into, i was really into like commercial-punk like crazy into very recently so im working on finding more like indie alternative stiff because i just find it a lot more relaxing so thanks for the suggestions and i actually just grabbed a cd by the postal service yesterday night after my post. So actual anymore suggestions would be highly appreciated.
-
You're joking right?
[/quote]
Nope, I was just ignorant. Someone cleared it up for me though.
/feel dumb
-
Well, if you're trying to make a transition between punk and alternative you might want to try to find a middle ground first. Something like:
Algernon Cadwallader
Lesser Panda
Tom Vek
Miracle Fortress
Dark Captain, Light Captain
Any of these are alternative but a bit more punk or rock
and try the Andrew Bird album earlier in the topic, its really good.
-
So here's my Last.FM too: http://www.last.fm/user/Scarychips
-
cool thanks for the recommendations i just went to the library and grabbed about 10 cds today and i be getting more next week
-
Algernon Cadwallader was uploaded to the Mediaf!re thread within the last 7 pages.
-
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Death Cab For Cutie as long as you enjoy fatties.
-
...............ok did i miss somthing
-
Melodic must be a DCfC fan. He was the one who took exception to me telling you not to listen to them any more.
What that last post was about i don't know.
-
if you like death cab, then listen to them. i don't see what the big deal is.
Scarychips. I'm uploading an Iron & Wine album --- the only one I have (yet) that wasn't already on the mediaf!re thread recently --- tell me what you think. I don't have much to go with not knowing too much about the stuff you listen to, but I'm bored and will suggest it anyway.
http://www.media!rre.com/?yz4udu2l0zv
Also,
Anyone reading this thread that hasn't listened to them should download something by Sigur Ros. Here's an example
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?kj1tunccyn0
I've been trying to get into Jen's Lekman and you seem to be well versed. Any suggestions where to start?
-
He said he used to listen to punk and now listens to more alternative stuff. I couldn't think of a better way to put it so thats how it went. :|
Just trying to give the best of both worlds (well, something in between anyway).

Thanks for the Iron & Wine. I actually like that band. Thanks again.
For Jens Lekman music, you should start by listening to Nights Falls Over Kortedala. Begin by listening to snippets of it (Imeem is a great place for that). If you are still interested in the album after listening to some songs, PM me and I'll upload it for you.
