Please don't make it this one (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1231580/), you will give them the wrong impression.
That's right, the sequel to the "I guess it's okay to make another one" film Alvin and the Chipmunks comes out late next year. What separates this one from the last you ask? Why, they've added the Chipettes of course.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel; it's slowly killing you inside.
-
I admire the balls of the executive who said "Lets call it 'The Squeakuel'".
I dispair for humanity that this earned him a bonus instead of a punch in the face.
-
At least it's not Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Actually this is really terrible too.
-
I am willing to bet actual money that there will be a Beverly Hills Chihuahua sequel.
If I'm wrong I will lose some money but there will not be a sequel to Beverly Hills fuckin' Chihuahua
-
Fuuck... why don't they let minors own guns? I promise not to shoot hollywood execs.
-
They're releasing it Christmas day, too...
-
I've been wondering about that, who goes and sees these movies on Christmas day? Everyone I know just spends it with their family...

I dunno... The Spirit might just get me up off my ass on Christmas day so's I can see that. Frank Miller is a great comic artist, and I can't wait to see what he does with the Spirit.
-
i still don't understand the point of The Spirit.
i mean, i'll probably see it but i'll also probably regret it.

It's a comic film about a vigilante who tries to stop crime, more on it at the wiki(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spirit)
The Spirit, referred to in one newspaper article cited below as "the only real middle-class crimefighter", was the hero persona of young detective Denny Colt. Presumed killed in the first three pages of the premiere story, Colt later revealed to his friend, Central City Police Commissioner Dolan, that he had in fact gone into suspended animation caused by one of archvillain Dr. Cobra's experiments. When Colt awakened in Wildwood Cemetery, he established a base there and, using his newfound anonymity, began a life of fighting crime wearing only a small domino mask, blue business suit, red necktie, fedora hat and gloves for a costume. The Spirit dispensed justice, funding his adventures with the rewards for capturing villains.

i know what it's about.
i don't know why Frank Miller would make a movie out of it and not bother creating a unique visual style for it or, heaven forbid, keeping some semblance of the original style from the comic (obviously updated for today's audiences).
instead he just took someone elses story and put a Sin City filter over the top of it. so i ask again: Why?
-
Hah, "it's a film about a vigilante who has to stop crime". Whoa, that sounds original
Man I'm so getting off my arse on Christmas Day to watch that.
-
In my family, it's a yearly tradition to go see a movie on Thanksgiving night and Christmas night. It started with our yearly trips to Disneyworld at Thanksgiving when I was little, and just kept going from there.
-
instead he just took someone elses story and put a Sin City filter over the top of it. so i ask again: Why?
Well he worked on it, due to the unique way that comics were once created. See, character rights and who worked on them used to be the rights of the producers of the material. So most of the classic comics(Superman, Batman, etc.) have had many different authors, artists, etc., and that's what's happened to The Spirit, so he has actually helped to shape the character as he is now. Someone who works on a comic also has a huge potential to completely change it, just look at some of the Batman comics written by Miller. Also, in regards to the lighting: Sin City was set in a neo-noir style of artistry; The Spirit was originally set in a noir style, much the same as the Tracer Bullet style of Calvin and Hobbes. That's why the lighting is similiar: because Sin City took elements already present in a fairly old style of artistic lighting.

Oh so very true, the only reason I'm going is because I trust what Frank Miller's done and if he's the primary artistic motive force behind it, I wanna see it. Unfortunately, that's rather similar to Star Wars fans when Lucas started making more movies... However, Miller has yet to mess up really badly.

Jews?

:-D
Though I can't imagine why they'd want to see that abomination. Of my money, if I'm gonn see one film next year, it'll be Watchmen.

I heard they cancelled it due to a suit or something. If they didn't, I'd be very glad of it, but I don't truly know of which way it is now... Hopefully it's still going to come out.
-
It's not canceled. The lawsuit is still sort of ongoing, but everyone is basically proceeding as if it's not. Since the lawsuit has occurred, they've released at least 3 production diaries and the Muse trailer. Plus, WB has put in a large sum of money into this, they're not going to throw it away.

Ok, awesome, thanks. :-D

If i was to watch one film next it'll be Dragonball
I'm so hyped for that one
And I can't wait for that Tim Burton-released Alice in Wonderland ... damn 2010...
-
If I see only one movie next year, it'll be 'Up' because it looks charming as hell and Disney Pixar have been on the fucking ball lately.
-
Tim Burton-released Alice in Wonderland
what

Burton doing Alice in Wonderland? Wow, that sounds pretty wizard, I'm gonna have to see that.
Never a big fan of Dragonball, mostly cuz as a kid I didn't have cable/satellite, and never caught it when it was on. Might go with my friends, they like DB.

You want to see Alice looking like a 27 year old heroin addict dressed entirely in black and white, with the Wonderland re-invisioned in tones of NyQuil green all done entirely in stop-motion claymation?
Because it doesn't sound too fascinating.
-

No. I want to see Alice looking like a 27 year old heroin addict dressed entirely in black and white, with the Wonderland re-invisioned in tones of NyQuil green all done entirely in stop-motion claymation while in the vicinity/posession of large quantities of alcohol.
-
Let's talk about how much we hate Tim Burton. Also, Helena Bonham Terrible Actress.
-
No, no, Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Don't make me get all defensive about the Burton trio cos I ... well I won't, but I'll still go see the film and then ... well then that's it.
So there.
Tim Burton = awesome
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland = awesome
Helena Bonham Carter (ahh Fight Club days) as the Red Queen = awesome
Anyway, let's slag off Val Kilmer or something
-
Fuck you no one disses Madmartigan.
-
seriously.
-
Helena Bonham Carter (ahh Fight Club days) as the Red Queen = awesome
Gee, I wonder if she will horribly overact and overplay the crazy/angry bit. She's like a less subtle and infinitely less talented Pacino, except she chews more scenery and breaks up marriages.
Also, yes, Madmartigan and Gay Perry are classics.
-

Methinks I am becoming quite unpopular here...
Overplaying the angry/crazy bit can't be bad; I liked Miranda Richardson's version
OK, Kilmer was good in Willow and as Doc Holliday, but At First Sight? Batman Forever?
-
Look just don't say Helena Bonham Carter is good and then diss Injun Joe.
-
*feels ashamed*
I was originally gonna go for "let's slag off Joel Schumaker" but realised I really like Falling Down and Phantom
And the only thing that popped into mind when I thought of Kilmer was Elvis and Batman
-
I would've gone with Schumacher. I am struggling to recall if he's done anything that wasn't shit.
-
Lost Boys, Phonebooth I liked, and Falling Down is great
He did Batman Forever, didn't he
ooooh, connections
-
Kilmer was Jim Morrison. Like, literally *was* him.
-
Anything you can say about Kilmer was redeemed by Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
That Alice movie does kinda sound like a terrible idea, but I'm sure I would have loved it when I was 15.
-
Guys, guys. Mark Wahlberg.
-
Redeemed by The Departed.
-
yeah, pretty much.
also, despite all the terrible acting and shit, i actually liked Shooter for some reason. :|
-
Anything you can say about Kilmer was redeemed by Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
And Top Secret. And his role in Heat. And I know that Doc Holliday was already mentioned, but seriously. He was the best thing in that movie.
-
Redeemed by The Departed.
I don't care how good that movie was, and I've never seen it.
His sins are too great.
-
Anything you can say about Kilmer was redeemed by Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
And his role in Heat
Oh man do I love that movie! The cast is so great in general. Yeah, even Kilmer, shockingly enough. An unrelated though cool fact about that movie: that famous scene with Pacion and De Niro in the diner, that was filmed at two different times. One time was Pacino on his own, the other time was De Niro. In other words, the scene cuts back and forth like it does because the two of them weren't being filmed together (and still it's awesome).
-
Marky Mark was also pretty solid in Three Kings, which is an awesome movie. His sins are numerous, but generally pretty mild and easily ignored. So, instead, let's just trash Michael Bay.
-
Wombat, that actually isn't true, unless they decided to manipulate the footage to make it look like they were both there, in the same shot. They mostly use the back and forth, but there is one shot that takes them both in. I can't remember, it might be some director's cut extra or something, I think I remember seeing a boom mic, like they hadn't clipped it down to size yet, but I could be wrong.
-
Hmm, seems you're right. I guess the annoying, self proclaimed "film buff" friend of mine that told me that is fallible after all! I shall rub this in his face and I thank you for that opportunity.
-
You're welcome. It is a common rumor, even spouted by... I think the director of Righteous Kill (the new movie with both of them in it).
-
The Tekken film.
Remind me which fucktard decided to jam RANDOM characters from T1 to FRICKING T6 and get away with dropping staple characters like Lei, Wang and Hwoarang? I just hope they at least deliver something redeeming.
I remember someone called Marky the "poor man's Matt Damon". Pretty funny, true or no.
-
On the Marky Mark redemption you can't forget Boogie Nights, I think that is enough to forgive him for anything.
I also have a softspot for Tigerland if we are talking good things Joel Schumacher has done for the world.
In fact I'm struggling to think of one actor (male or female) I dislike who doesn't have at least one good film on their cv.
-
Jessica Alba?
-
Sin City!
-
Being born!
wait...
-
I thought Sin City was over-stylized tripe that attempted to cover up bad writing and poor plotting with niffty visuals. That's just me, but that's why I picked her.
Anyway...
Shia LaBeouf?
-
Everyone's going to squall TRANSFORMERS. I still haven't seen it so I can't really argue. /shrug
-
By Jove, I think he's got it.
(I liked Transformers in spite of LaBeouf)
-
i liked Transformers but only because i closed my eyes, put my hands over my ears and went "lalalala" every time there were human-beings on the screen.
-
I actually don't dislike Shia LeBeouf. I have only ever seen him in Transformers and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Whilst KOTCS was a massive massive disappointment, (I actually couldn't sleep after it, which has had the effect of my fiance worrying about me tossing and turning all night after a trip to the cinema, but so far KOTCS is the only film that has had this effect), Shia LeBeouf isn't what makes it so bad.
Transformers isn't a great film, but it is a great piece of brain off entertainment, and I quite like Shia LeBeouf in it, I think he made a potentially very annoying character quite likable. I know other people won't agree with that, but I really do think that could have been a much much worse character.
-
I liked Transformers, being a fan of show(s). My only problem was with Megatron
And Shia LaBoeuf's a great actor. I say give him some time to show more things, show what he can do (rather than be the new upcoming action guy)
-
i liked Shia in I, Robot.
he was actually funny!
-
Yeah. First thing I saw him in.
I thought "hey this kid's alright", then forgot all about him
-
Oh yeah, him. He's also in Constantine, and while that movie wasn't all that good, it wasn't his fault. The end of it is worth seeing, though. Even if the best part was taken from the comic.
-
I'm glad everyone's forgotten about that unfortunate stint on Even Stevens, where he was GODAWFUL ANNOYING. Now that he's grown up and isn't running around screaming all the time, he's maturing into a competent actor. And he is still only in his twenties, which means he has years to improve. So far, he's been a bit beyond average, but definitely not up to ZOMG FANTASTIC status.
-

oh yeah, i always forget he was in that.
i actually really liked Constantine. the editing and camera angles they used...ah so crispy...the whole visual style of the thing was great, if you ask me.
-
He was marvelous in Holes
-
Agreed, Holes was very well done. It fit the book pretty well, from what I remember.
-

Thankfully Even Stevens didn't make it to Ireland, and if it has, it wasn't whilst I was watching kids tv.
-
Ignoring discussion
The guy playing Simon is in a movie about porn...Childhood dies easily I believe...too easily.

This! 1000 times this!
-
Ok, ok. Rob Schneider? Freddie Prinze Jr.? Ashton Kutcher?
-
Ok I went through the IMDB to try and find the "best" films those three had been in, cause I haven't seen that much of any of their work, and I think this list might have beaten me
Ashton Kutcher - The Guardian, looks like a generic hotshot rebel in the training acedemy flick, and therefore probably inoffensive, although good might be a push.
Freddie Prinze Jr. - Who I basically know only as Buffy's husband, looking down his list of films, I honestly don't think I've seen any of them, so don't know what he's like as an actor. The best thing on his cv looks like it could be "I know what you did last summer" which face it isn't saying a lot.
Rob Schneider - christ I don't know, Judge Dread?
-
This is the best thing Rob Schneider has done:

This thread has de-railed, ran off a cliff, and then fallen through a wormhole to the other side of the universe.
I think we'd all be okay if this was locked.
-
But uh... why would it be? We haven't started a flame war, yet.
-
Kilmer was Jim Morrison. Like, literally *was* him.
Except, like, literally 3/4 of The Doors movie bore no resemblance to the actual history/story of the band. I hate that movie more than I can possibly say.
(This is an evening for venting my spleen.)

It is not even the best worst. It is just plain the best.
-
Cant beleive no one mentioned Salton Sea with Val Kilmer. Marky Mark damn near lost all my respect for The Happening. Horrible acting...
Anyways dont know if it counts but they are doing a remake of a "Låt den rätte komma in" (Let the Right One In). By far one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. Lets just hope the remake doesn't screw it up completly.

trying to pull this thread back on topic...
If I had to choose, I would have to pick watchmen. I have yet to see anything about Up. Seriously pixar - if you want me to pay attention to your films, give me a fucking trailer. The whole "i'ma be mysterious about my next title" shit is getting old, I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU'LL STEAL MY MONEY WITH NEXT.
sorry, /rant.
-
I have seen Surf Ninjas! Sometime deep in the past! Watching clips of it has stirred memories.
Oh god, this is horrible. This means that someone subjected me to that movie in my childhood.
-
Ahh childhood trauma

I actually preferred him on Even Stevens. Funnier, and less boring.
And Dragonball is actually "the one movie next year" which I'm BOYCOTTING. God damn, the injustice that abomination will bring the anime...
-
I've been wondering about that, who goes and sees these movies on Christmas day? Everyone I know just spends it with their family...
Jews indeed! We eat Chinese food and go to the movies. I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on Christmas day.
-
If we are talking films we can't wait to see, apart from the obvious Watchmen, the one that has me really excited is Public Enemies, Johnny Depp, and Christian Bale, in a Michael Mann film... sounds pretty damn good to me!
