Title: WCT January 5-9
Post by: ysth on 04 Jan 2009, 17:37
This year, let's make Jeph hate this forum a little less, how about?

But if we all go away, it won't be much of a forum, will it?

I can understand him hating the nubs like the HanTai fanatics (or any other rabid character fan), because they're just boring and say the same thing over and over. What I don't get is whether he hates that there is criticism and discussion of the comic or not. That his writing spawns discussion should be a compliment, even if it is criticism... anyway. Yeah. Woo, new week.

Post by: plumbob78 on 04 Jan 2009, 20:41
I don't think he necessarily hates criticsm. But in my short time here I have seen some really uninformed and non-constructive criticism. And a l,ot of stuff that is just plain bitching, too. I don't think anyone would like it if someone repeatedly shit on his/her life's work.

I'm really looking forward to this week. With the stips we saw at the end of last week I think there's real possibility for further character development, esp. by Faye and Sven. Of course I'd be just as happy with PintSize and Winslow antics

What I think it is is something that I couldn't stand much myself.  The whole thing with Penny's views on religion made me want to shoot myself as well.  But I'm not going to get into why that bothered me so much.  I also agree that it might be the people who keep posting stupid crap that goes along the lines of, "We want teh boobies.  Hanners is teh hotnes Dora is 2 Faye is such a bitch  BOOBIES!"  Don't those people know that this comic is actually more than just a place for people to look at pretty drawings?  Jeph is a really good writer and artist, and there are those who come on to these forums and debase it like that.

Will laughed me a gang.

Faye coming out of nowhere at the end was the perfect punchline.

And I demand a design based on Penelope's t-shirt be available in QC merch by February. D:

Comic 1310 feels a bit like a jump the shark moment if this is how Jeph is planning to end the Wil/Penelope thing, but I liked it nonetheless. Panel 4 was especially amusing. Wil is painfully over-dramatic and, ironically, has Penelope so caught up into what he is saying and doing that if he actually stayed and showed that kind of...I don't know ability earlier, he would not have thought he did not deserve her. All in all, it did what the strip was supposed to do: make me laugh. Wil's Easy Rider look in Panel 5 is truly comical given what he just said in Panel 4 (Something in Ohio ) and Faye's line at the end is killer. What the ass, indeed!

I like the Wil Penelope thing.  I'm hoping it's a temporary fix and that we'll see more of them after the time skip, but for now it works nicely.

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious, but Jeph's recent Twitters give me the feeling that disbelief was suspended a bit for today's comic, as he's only using it to tie up the arc so he can jump ahead a little ways. I do feel that it's a tad blatantly surreal by QC standards (he has subtle surreality down pat), but this is excused due to the circumstances.

Also, I do wish that something could be done to engender a bit more goodwill towards the WCT from the man we all respect. But perhaps part of it stems from the fact that this comic is fairly all-encompassing in Jeph's life already, and so he really doesn't care to spend more time inanely discussing the minutiae of it.

lmfao. Best comic since... the one like two weeks ago that made me laugh this hard. Jeph's writing is getting better and better.

Also, if you guys stop pestering him for *Hantai*, he might do what he did to Steve.
Or Sara. Or Ellen.

I kind of wish he didn't give out so much info on the twitters, considering I never check them and reading the comic should be enough >_>

Well, when I see Jeph wants to wrap up the Penelope/Will storyline I didn't imagine him doing it in one strip. I'm most looking forward to the highlights montage of his journey that we're going to get in about 200 strips' time.

On the plus side I'm hoping this is a much needed trimming down of the cast that's getting focus.

Focus ? Focus ? FOCUS ???

QC never had any focus.

Ok, sometimes it had ... but never for long.
For a long time the focus was on Marten and Faye with Steve and Dora as the main secondary characters. I'm in no way saying I want things to go back to that I just find such a large cast of characters grabbing for the spotlight a bit less effective. It does feel like lately we've shifted back to focusing on Marten and Faye more, though, with Dora and Sven at their sides, which is a step in the right direction. I'm optimistic for the new year of QC!

lol, HanTai and other couplings are merely a running joke in the forums. People who take it seriously enough to get offended really have to ask themselves some questions. Or Go on a road trip.

Question is, where the hell is Will going to get cash for gas on his road trip? Must have a scrunters fund.

But I love the sheer preposterousness of the situation. its a parody on all of those road trip flicks.

Well if you define focus that broadly, OK.

In that case, QC always focussed on the setting it has, which mostly equals reallife with some crucial differences, such as droids with a personality.

But QC was always a story that contained many subplots and weird interruptions etc, which hardly really focussed on anything consistently.

2) One of either Dora or Faye's exes show up and many hijinks ensue.

I thought he was being ironically hyperbolic.

Kind of like life as seen through many of our eyes, including mine.

All in all, I liked this comic.  QC hasn't actually made me laugh out loud in quite some time -- it's been more like a soap opera, where I "tune in" just to see how my characters are doing.

I figured long gone were the days of some of the funniest, most quotable lines I'd ever seen in a webcomic, like:

"God, you're to humor what Helen Keller would be to Competitive Paintball!"

and:

"What ELSE have I failed to notice today?  Are my PANTS on BACKWARDS?  Am I ON FIRE?  DID I KILL A GUY EARLIER??"

And of course, who can forget:

"To the mall!  Where I shall Burn and Pillage!  And Also Try On Shoes!"

THOSE lines made me laugh.  To be honest, I wasn't really looking at the art at that point;  I was in it for the popping dialogue.

Somewhere along the way, the snarky gave way to the absurd, and some of it was funny, and some of it I could relate to, but none of it was really...you know, me sitting here going "S*@$ that's funny!"

Until today.

Today I got a taste of why I started reading QC.

Jump the shark?  So what?  I don't care, as long as it's funny, in the biting, sarcastic, Faye-laden, cynical way.

Sure, I despise Faye, but I also enjoy her wit.  There are real people in this world I feel the same way about.

And the send-up of both Twilight and Ohio is especially funny.  Luckily, the comic stands on its own without the topical background, which just makes it funnier (I didn't catch the twilight reference becuase I stopped watching teen angsty vampire movies when I turned 18...and I think the one of my generation was "The Lost Boys")

But I could be wrong.  The memory fades as you get old.

Bottom line:  I like this flavor of QC.  I humbly ask it to continue.

As long as Faye continues to get bitch-slapped every once in a while...cuz she just deserves it.

("And another one for Jenny and the Wimp" -- Last Will and Temperament, The Frantics)

This comic has so many punchlines that it's ridiculous. Which might be the point. My favourite know, just everything fits perfectly*. You can really see how much fun Jeph had with this one. Have more fun with your comic, you hear? ;O

Yeah, I would have enjoyed this more if I didn't know from reading Jeph's tweets that he was desperate to somehow "wrap up" their storyline, and this is what he came up with.  Don't get me wrong, this strip is fantastic and fitting, and Faye at the end is perfect.  I guess I just need to stop reading his tweets.

And I think it's really just a matter of time before he deletes these forums.  I for one think that's a fantastic idea.

Call me a tard for looking this closely, but if you look under his sleeve in panels 4 and 5 you can see what might be a cast. Note that it's only on that arm. That aside, he doesn't really seem the type to be dissuaded from his grandiose plans by a little thing like a broken arm.

I love how people post on the forums to agree with Jeph that the forums should be deleted. That said, this is one of two forums I frequent and the other one has a much friendlier environment, so maybe that's what he hates about it, the fact that everyone jumps down everyone else's throats. So maybe instead of Jeph deleting the forums, we could all try, myself included, not to be such douchey snarkbags.

I think it will be interesting to have a "jump forward" in time but the problem with that becomes people like me, who do not believe in the whole "QC has only been going for 42 days I can prove it by going strip by strip" and just believe that the story has been progressing naturally, probably not the same amount of time the strip has been going, but suspending my disbelief so that I don't think Hannelore's birthday and the Faye/Sven hookup, which happened almost a year ago in real time, has only been two weeks ago in strip time. With Jeph emphasizing a fast forward, it takes that suspension of disbelief away, for me anyway, so I can't judge how much time has passed up until now. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but for me, the nature of the relationships developed in QC also have a time element -- I think it's important to know 1) the amount of time that passed between strip 1 and strip 500, and 2) the amount of time since Dora and Marten got together, at the very least (I choose those milestones because I think it lets all of the other storylines/relationships/friendships fall into place). I've kinda rambled on here and lost my point, but I think I'm going to wrap up and leave anyway since it's all getting just too tl;dr for me.

I don't mind the green one... I actually don't think I've ever ridden the little blue one if it's the one I'm thinking of.

I freakin hate the yellow, red, and purple one. And I think every other guy on these forums who's ridden it can agree with me. Especially when it's some chick doing the car loading, because then they jam the seats up hard when they strap you in, not realizing the anatomical issues with doing that.

And, myself, I'm partial to the brown one that's in two parts, and the red one, partially because there's never any lines for them, and partially because they're still tons of fun. ;)

Cedar Point is about all Ohio has going for it. Ohh, memories of a vacation-found first love... Look, growing up for about five years in Michigan sucks equally. Thank God the rest of my life was spent in Atlanta to even me out... Although I'm back here now because... Well, really, I'm not even sure why. SIGH.

ANYWAY, I laughed aloud at the end of this comic. I agree that it would have been better if I hadn't known that Jeph was furrowing his brow for some way to get rid of the Wil/Penny story arc, but nonetheless, it's hilarious and very fitting. Penny shouting out that she'd wait for him had me cracking up because "Leader of the Pack" started playing in my head.

As to the poster who loves Twilight, please hush. Those books are horrible. HORRIBLE.

I enjoy the other webcomic forum I visit because the author seems to actively encourage hatred of his wretchedly awful comic.

As for bitchiness I was a member of a martial arts forum whose members pride themselves on being smartarses and didn't stick around because I felt it crossed the line into being completely pointless - a line I think hasn't really been crossed here.

Wow, that sounds like it would be the world's champion in people trying to win arguments by telling you how totally bad they could kick your ass in real life.

To be perfectly honest, it pisses me off the way he writes characters out of the strip. There's no real grace, no real method, it's just "OH LOL NOW THEY'RE GONE!!1!"

Honestly, the only character I can think of that left QC with any sense of closure was Steve's old girlfriend.

I'm glad you said blue.

If you had said red, I think I'd have to hit you. (The big red one... sure, it's fast, but you wait 2 hours in line (note: it's been a couple years since I've last been to Cedar Point) for 17 seconds.

I've been on it exactly once, and I was like, "that's all? Srsly?"

Then I went and rode Gemini a bunch of times, and had 11tybn times more fun.

I'm partial to the Green one myself, and also the little blue one that people always forget about.

I personally like the blue tower more,
but really, the Power Tower pails in comparison to the Millennium Force. The last time I was there, I rode it at 11 oclock at night, even though the park closed at 9. The line took that long, so anyone that was in line, was allowed to go.
Seriously, middle of the night is the best way to go. ^_^

Top Thrill Dragster's good too, but it's too short. :/

We waited in line 4 hours one day to ride it the summer it opened because it kept breaking down. We became friends with all the people around us and hung out for the rest of the day. :) It has been a while since I have been to Cedar Point, so I am completely out of the green one (Mantis?)/purple one (Millennium Force?) stuff,  but The Magnum will always hold a special place in my heart. Honestly, it is still loads better than half the newer rides there; never get tired of it.

Cedar Point is about all Ohio has going for it.
Hey now! We have lots going for us. No one else has the Buckeyes. We now have three BCS losses in a row to our name. That takes talent.

Well, honestly, I just love everything at Cedar Point. It's my favorite amusement park, ever.
Millennium Force = Blue. Green one is the Mantis though.
I like the newish one, the Maverick. It's pretty cool.
One that I like is the Iron Dragon. It's not very exciting, but it's the first ride I ever rode there, and there wasn't a line that day. I love it, just for its firsttimewonder.
Ooh, I like the wicked twister, it's fun.
And I like the skyhawk, and all the classic rides, like, the wooden ones and the not rollercoasters, just barely thrill ride originals.
And MaxAir.

Aw dammit, I just like everything.
Except the Disaster Transport. That one sucks.

ASDFGHJKL; Even though I have more on the Cedar Point subject, I'll stop.

It's not criticisms, or bitching that he dislikes. It's all the people up in the WCT talking about how they love the characters.

Green one is Raptor, not Mantis.

The red/yellow/purple one is Mantis. I hate that coaster. Having your manly bits smashed whenever the coaster experiences positive vertical Gs just isn't fun. :x

I've not been there in a few years, so... I've not ridden Maverick.

Iron Dragon is great for when you've got friends in line for the Dragster, and need to see how much progress they're making (so you know whether to ditch them or not,) because there's almost no line for it, so you can ride frequently, and spy the Dragster line easily. ;)

Disaster Transport... is the only coaster that has resulted in me upchucking. In my defense... I had JUST eaten a ridiculous hamburger, and I had no visual points of reference. :P

Just a note, has anyone else noticed that Marten's Twitter is now following someone called Dart? I'm not up on a lot of the other artists Jeph pals around with so I don't know if it's anyone in particular. But it seems to be a real person (fairly easy to tell it's not a character anyway), and I can't really find a reason for Marten to be following him...

Butcher is full of WIN! The head staples, the maniacal look in his eyes, the tear drop tattoos. Just fantastic!

I love the look in Penelope's eyes. She is just smitten now whereas she was previously just mildly amused by Wil.

I will be first to say that I think Dora's hair looks a little scraggly, but I know I am not very receptive of drastic change. It took me a while to get accustomed to Raven's pink hair, so I am sure this will grow on me too. That said, now that Dora has had a hair change, I expect Raven to have a major one too as we cannot have two characters with the multi-colour thing going. Maybe Dora will get any even cuter do and go all natural?

I love Dora's new hair! I think it looks gorgeous and makes her look so much more feminine/less like Marten. That's a fair few months' worth of hair growth, too. Also, the guy picking his teeth with the knife is hilarious looking. I love the eyebrow.

I'm pretty sure everyone in QC-land has noticed Dora's hair growth, as it was a slow process stretching out over several weeks, and everyone's had time to get used to it.

The closest it's gonna get to seeing Marten's reaction to Dora's hair is for someone to bring it up. "Hur hur remember that time I grew out my hair and Marten kept reminding me to re-dye my roots and I kept saying no?"

Is this the biggest leap of time in QC ever? Or certainly since the early early days? You've got to assume there's at least two days or more like a week that's gone by, yeah? I remember someone once worked out the entire chronology (more or less) about a year or two ago!
Title: Re: WCT January 5-9
Post by: Exar_Kun on 06 Jan 2009, 00:34
Holy Jesus Balls! I never figured that Dora with blondish-black hair would be that... uhh... refreshing!  I really like it for what its worth.

EDIT: For Dora's hair to grow out that long, I would say the leap of time would have to be at least a month (unless she has some kinda freaky gene that made her hair grow super fast). Now all we have to do is wait until Dora decides that she will break the Guiness World Record for hair length.
Title: Re: WCT January 5-9
Post by: Xcarissa on 06 Jan 2009, 00:49
Yeah, it's been no less than 3 weeks tops, for her blonde hair to grow to ear-length. We've also seen way bigger jumps than 2 days in QC. I like to guess that whenever there's a jump between two days with no obvious evidence that it's only the next day, it's been a week. Hannelore's hair after she cut it was a good indicator of that theory.

Human hair grows at a rate of one inch every 45-60 days (it grows slightly faster if you cut it, oddly).  While I'm not suggesting Jeph has been scientifically accurate, which would make the jump more like six months, it's definitely meant as an indicator of Long Time Passing.

Re: the closing of the forums thing.  The fastest way to turn an artistic project into shit is to shut out anyone who disagrees with you.  I don't believe Jeph would do that just because he doesn't like being told he's not perfect, but he might do it if he thought intelligent life was extinct here.  I've not been keeping up with forum politics and for the most part I really do not care, but if Jeph closes or personally abandons this forum because he's sick to death of 'shipping, whining and pedantry and QC proceeds to degenerate for lack of constructive criticism, it is your fault and not his.

I think his main beef is with the various knee-jerk reaction criticisms such as WHAT THE SCROTUM HELL HAPPENED TO HER ASS BALLS HAIR?!?  Not exactly useful "criticism", and I don't blame him for thinking that it's not worth his hosting space to allow people to post garbage like that.

...oh, I can see this ending badly for Wil.  I can see the stroke of evil genius in Jeph that, after a few of these "time-indicator" strips, postcards from Wil, they abruptly stop.

And leave us (and Pen) wondering just what the hell happened to him.

That would be a delightfully evil story arc, and one I think Jeph might enjoy writing, especially if it allows Faye to be snarky and insensitive at Penelope's misery and loss.

I'm kinda hoping that DOESN'T happen, but I won't be surprised if it does.

Either that, or Wil ends up in California and his last postcard is that he's found the love of his life:  A beach bunny who digs motorcycles in Venice and he's never coming back.

That would also be an evil, bittersweet ending.

I liked the strip today;  Didn't make me laugh, but then again, I don't think it was supposed to.

Heh, so it looks like Dora finally chose her way to get back to her natural color. She's good-looking right now (even awesome to me), yet I guess it must have been a bit weird at first, with only the roots being blond. But I wouldn't know that much, since I've never been into dye. I'm kinda curious : how does it work in real life? By wearing a hat for the first few weeks or something?

On a side note, am I the only one to find Dora's face in panel 4 slightly reminiscent of early Hannelore's?

Also I can not understand why Dora did ever feel the urge to dye her hair black.

having just looked back a bit, we havent actually seen Dora since before christmas. It's quite possible that those comics in between Marten's phone call to his mom and now covered a fair length of time on their own, considering they were fairly self-contained. So really, there could have been a good few months in there over several strips, not just that obvious gap.

While aesthetically I prefer Dora's short black hair, I think that the grown out roots are a cool way to show the passage of time (and I'm sure it was fun to draw).  The shock to the audience contrasted with the lack of surprise from characters (due to it's natural growth over the unseen time) is a nice effect.

I think this was the right way to advance the Will/Pen plot, rather than just moving on to another arch and coming back to this suddenly introduced road trip of a relatively minor character months (real time) later.  Kudos, Jeph, for your excellent synthesis of art and story.

It's been in the 30s for a while now. A couple weeks ago we almost saw 60.

Damn. Now I have to look it up.   It looks like the average growth rate for human hair is about half an inch per month.  Here's the last comic with Dora (not counting the Christmas Cheesecake)

http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1302

And then todays:

It's been rather more than 6-8 weeks.

Questions based on events that we don't actually know happened:

-Will Faye try to get Marten back with Dora, or will she try to take him herself?
-No matter how much it looks like they get along famously, won't Hannelore get tired of the whole les thing and dump Tai for a fireman?
-Why is Raven now working in a secret Navy shipyard in San Diego? And what is her Elo rating, anyway?
-Now that Natasha is showering, will Sven and Amir come to blows?
-So did Steve and Sarah really run off to start an Allosaurus farm, or was Meena just lying to cover up her unauthorized use of the Hampshire County ME's incinerator?
-Is there a term even more off the wall than "wild-assed guess" for this post?

Yesterday's comic was really really funny, especially because I'm currently reading On the Road, which I borrowed from my friend who's obsessed with On the Road and Kerouac in general and talks about it frequently.

I knew Jeph was going to change the season, but I didn't think he was actually going to jump the comic months into the future. Of course, now he might have to draw snow for like three years. I'd imagine someone would tire of that more easily than drawing generic timeless springtime weather.

When I first saw Dora I was like "Who the fuck is that?" I honestly thought it was a new character at first.

What's interesting is that two comics ago, Marten said he was having problems with Dora. They might've broken up by now. Who knows what could've happened in the time in between yesterday's comic and today's?

Characters not being instantly recognisable after taking a break from the spotlight seems to be a recurring thing here. It's a really tricky thing to get right when you have characters without super-exaggerated features and an art style that tends to shift over time.

I can't imagine we'll actually see the results of events that have occured in the time that's passed. I think in reality it's more of a reason to give Dora a new haircut  but here's hoping!

Wow, that sounds like it would be the world's champion in people trying to win arguments by telling you how totally bad they could kick your ass in real life.
Not quite! Because it's a forum that prides itself in not being all about "my martial art is better than yours" and internet posturing. Instead they've replaced it with a lot of idiots trying to be clever. *sigh* Like 25% of the people are highly amusing, the rest pretty much ruin it.

As to Dora's hair, she'll be cute once she goes fully blonde and gets rid of the black ends. The ends look like they're fried from all the processing it takes to keep it that deep a black. Poor thing. Yay healthy, natural haircolor! <preens in never-been-dyed smugness>

I guess I've always taken the intelligent discussions at the forums for XKCD, Rice Boy/Order of Tales, and Dresden Codak. I guess this comic just draws in a different kind of audience. Wow, QC is really picking up. These last three strips were all win, I can't remember such consistency in the last couple of hundred strips. I mean, it's always been good, but now it's GREAT.  Also the art is so improved from the early days, I love how he's playing more with perspective and such. I do wonder if drawing snowy strips will get old for Jeph. But most of the shots are interior anyway, so maybe that doesn't matter.

He said he was going to have a change of season.  That would suggest three (autumn->winter) to six (summer->winter) months.
What about 9 (spring->winter)?

Well Jeph did tweet awhile back that in his head Dora looked a bit like this picture: http://80.237.157.40/dma-site/images/stories/Nominierte_2006/Best_Djane/ellen%20allien.jpg and tbqh that girl's hair is equally as scraggly as Dora's.

I guess I'd know that if I followed his Twitter. But, alas. Well I guess everyone can't have a thick head of hair like Penelope. And it is nice to see some long hair again. It'll grow on me I guess.

Total Recall = win. Winslow's face kills me. D:

Well apart from that statement of course, which imo still is too vague to qualify as a specification. :>

Correct me if I'm seeing things...but does Marten's lower half look kind of girlish in panel 2? I dunno, that's just the impression I get...
Well, my body has pretty much the same shape as Marten's. We two are just thin ;)

Now I know how Austrians speak English, that's funny (I am German, by the way. QC really taught me some contemporary English!)

Person who's all "yay natural hair" can bite me - I cannot describe the depths of loathing I have for having my hair natural coloured. The colour is fine, I like it on other people, but I cannot leave it alone! *twitch*

And I guess I may as well comment that I like the two-tone. There. And the Arnie strip amused me. Lots. Yay QC.

I am definitely interested in seeing just how much has changed in this time shft

Is Will ever going to return or will her disappear without a trace?
Will Penelope become a vengeance seeking biker vigilante if he does?
Have Dora and Marten broken up or is he going to propose at last?
Are Sven and Steve a regular couple now?
Has Tai finally seduced Hanners and they're now living together?

OK, speculation aside, I'm loving the way things seem to be going at this point.

I wonder if she is drunk, has been cleaning something...well, kind of stinky or both.

On the whole hair thing, her hair looks pretty much the same so maybe it was just Dora who got a major change. It had been a while since we last saw her, so I went back a few strips and I had forgot that Dora said she was going to grow out her hair. It is like Jacques planned this thing or something.

what is pintsize saying in the last panel of 1312? :?

He's going for a schwarzenegger accent, saying "Martin, you have to get to Mars, start the reactor!"  It's a parody of the arnold flick Total Recall (which had a mutated guy in it who had a second head/face growing out of his stomach).  Marten's annoyance is due to pintsize applying the austrian accent to the wrong character.

The best part of the movie is the chick with 3 boobs though.  I musta freezeframed that section of my vhs so many.... nevermind.

Poor Hanners.  I have to resist the urge to break out the diagnostic equipment and call for a transport.

I have to keep thinking:  "Dude, she's a FICTIONAL CARTOON CHARACTER...YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE."

Poor Hanners.  She seems so helpless in a crazy world, it brings out the protective, nurturing streak in me.

Ya know...that may be my problem with the kind of crazies I attract...

...hmmm.

Anyway, Marten needs to take poor Hanners back in and care for her.  Nurse her back to health.  Take off all their clothes and get in bed with her...to keep her warm, of course -- skin to skin contact is the best way to keep a person warm in a hypothermia situation.

You know, this could be that "Hanners wakes up in bed with Marten" and they're both naked, without actually having done the nasty.

Oh my goodness, this could turn into a two-keyboard, three-aspirin story arc.

Good going, Jeph!

Please don't hurt Hanners too much;  A lot of us really love her.

I figure, what with the flushed cheeks and sweat-droplets, Hanners is probably feverish. The little bubbles have appeared before in non-drunken context: http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1290 (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1290)

However, I'm not sure what the rather weird positioning of her body (i.e., exposed underwear, dropped shoulder-strap, Mahten kinda groping her [even though he's obviously just trying to hold her up]) might mean. Possibly it's just Jeph feeling a little evil towards the Hanners-freaks and deciding to make them all hot and bothered with their misguided fantasies. But I could be entirely misinterpreting it in its entire entirety.

*cough*

Yes, but he was also upgraded to knighthood this year.  As for the Alzheimer's, he's in the initial stages of early onset Alzheimer's.  He says the only difference it's made to him thus far is that his typing has slowed down a lot.  Certainly when I was talking with him in August there was no noticeable difference to how he'd been in the past.

(BTW, read the books or I'll rip your nipples off.  I suggest Wyrd Sisters as a good place to start; the tone is a lot different in the earliest novels.)

If any one questions the morals of martins situation the correct answer is:

Drop the girl, she has already entered a relaxed limp state (er yeah carefully!)

The robot however could be expensive to fix if dropped, also that would leave evidence of some kind of incident.

Cold medicine side-effects + staying up for 3 days = the kind of exhaustion necessary for this to happen. Somebody needs some Day-quil. (Though I don't think it does anything for a fever, and I'm not sure what you can take with it.)

Poor Winslow's locked up. He probably needs a cold boot to get going again. (hurr hurr hurr)

I'm predicting start of Marten-Hanners romance tomorrow.
Or..

His strength will give out. The two of them (well, 3 if you count Winslow) will end up in a crumpled heap in the hallway, and Dora (or Faye) will discover them and think the worst.
Sit-com style Hillarity ensues.

However, I'm not as indie-jacked as Marten, so, it wasn't that big a deal to hold both, just awkward. Had to scoop my friend up and over my shoulder, kick open the door, and maneuver the pizza in. Enough of the right medicine can "drunken" anyone.

I am very new to QC and this forum, but I am not sure if I should be amazed or horrified by the number of people who want Hannelore, biblically speaking. Maybe it is just because I am a girl, but I always saw her as the kind of person you would just want to hug and to tell "it'll be okay." Well, maybe not hug, but at least get her some Mr. Clean wipes as a birthday gift or something and help her count the ripples in each wipe...

Drunken: (verb/past participle of "drunk") to enable an entity to become intoxicated. Sure, 'intoxicate" would have been been the better word, but making up stuff is far more fun.

Well, she's kind of the climax of the "cute girl" type, and a very funny and interesting person on top of that. That she is unable to be a girlfriend as such, even unable to be hugged, only makes her even cuter.

And while you complain about what girls we get attracted to, I got a TON of questions what the heck you girls like about certain men. Almost every thread of women showing men they like freaked me out. Women have really, really weird ideas about what kind of men they like. The nice guy type I would choose for my sister isnt exactly popular amongst those.

That's exactly what I meant. Postcounts tend to be lower in the WCT than in the rest of the forums because we don't seem to get involved in the same sort of running conversations that other parts of the forum occasionally do. That, and a great many people post ONLY in the WCT, which greatly limits the window. So no, as long as you've been around for a while and most importantly know what you're talking about, you're no newb.

I have a theory that out of a female cast in a film/TVshow/comic a certain type of geek male will become attracted to the most socially inept or mentally unstable. See the huge following for River in Firefly, who spends most of the series in various states of breakdown.

Oooh.  Awkward.

About today's comic...

Dammit, Jeph...take a great story arc, with incredible potential for drama...

...and it all occurs inside Marten's head.

What's sad is that is pretty much the most believable outcome, once you erase all the fantasies expressed by the fan base here.

"I saw Hanners' TITS!  I AM A BAD PERSON WAAAAAH!!!"

Yup.  Thaaaaat's the Marten we know and love.

And it just cements the fact that he really is in love with Dora.

I don't think Dora's hair is a mullet (not 'business' enough in the front), and I much prefer it to the black helmet she'd taken to sporting. In fact, I wonder if she ought to keep dyeing the ends, although that may be hell to draw. And I think in the last panel Dora's eyes are widened in amazment, not mania. The mania-eyes occur in the previous panel where she asks if Marten got a good look at the Hanner-tit.  :-D

Poor Dora. Tai's piercing, Hanners' flash—all that stuff she'd enjoy, witnessed by Marten, who is, of course, horrified. Must be frustrating.

I am not sure if I should be amazed or horrified by the number of people who want Hannelore.
Actually, I had no such inclination until Jeph drew her looking dead sleepily incapacitated. Hence my statement that I found it troubling.

lol, inevitable next question by Dora,"Martin, did you motorboat them?"

My question is, for Hanners, would it be atypical to go bra-less? Wouldn't it be characteristic of someone with OCD to be particularly fastidious with personal appearance, hence to be careful with their undergarments?

It might depend on her meds. We've seen her pantsless before: http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=800 (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=800).

Why am I not surprised that Dora didn't have a problem with it?
Err .. because her boyfriend immediately ran to her and confessed, totally guiltfull ? And its just seeing a single breast of another woman, for a short moment, mostly by accident. I doubt many women will have a problem with that. And I really wouldnt want a girlfriend who had.

You're right of course, but some women are insecure enough to freak at the very notion of their boyfriend seeing any part of another woman's naughty bits. I can easily imagine Marten's conversation with Faye (if he had started dating her) about this going very differently, and for Marten, possibly very painfully. (Remember, Faye's still got issues).

QFT. It really depends on the meds and whats going on with the person at the moment. Unless Hanners has a specific compulsion with being well-kept (and I've seen a few strips where she isn't), then people have days where they don't care about their appearance. Plus if she was out in the snow counting snowflakes for four hours ... well I'd say that keeping up her appearance was not on her mind at the time.

I loved today's comic. Its always fun to see Marten flustered and Dora just brushing it off, and I understand where Dora is coming from too.

Imagine how disappointed those geeks would be if they actually MET Summer Glau and realized she was neither crazy NOR socially inept
Then the realization strikes that she probably IS capable of kicking ass, so the kidnapping plot goes right out the window.
Either that, or dealing with the four large gentlemen named Bud, 'Tank', Joe and Karl who discretely follow her entourage.

Awww Marten cuteness.  I love the way he confesses here.

Is it just me, or does Dora look all excited in the last two panels?

Oh, hell, why not a Penewiltaifaystesveravemarhandora. Which I suppose amounts to an orgy, also known cologuillay (here) as 'all gettin' nekkid and gettin' in a pile.'

Curiously, it also vaguely reminds me of the titles of one of the Hindi epics. Go figure.

I can proudly say that i have been reading QC since issue 1111. AKA the April Fool's issue when XKCD redirected me to this wonderous and much more regularly available humour. i spent April's 1-3 reading the ENTIRE archive. and haven't looked back, except to reread. I have to admit though, when you do read through all of the comics, starting from the VERY beginning and coming through, its such a smooth transition that it wasnt until i looked back i realised just how far Jeph had come. it didnt happen overnight folks, Jeph's certainly put a lot of work into it, and he deserves a lot of kudos for bringing us this marvellous comic.
On another note, i think Dora's face in the last two panels really shows how far the art has come. only the slightest changes made her face go from surprised to that slightly cutsey loving look. excellent job.

PS i know im a lurker who comes on to say random points. its how we roll.

not only have we seen her pantless, but shes often said she puts her underpants on inside out, so it makes perfect sense that even if she is ocd that shes not fastidious about her garment wearing. on a similar note why are you people so nitpicky about this comic?

the point is not relating to the characters, my thing is people get all nitpicky about something someone says or does because you dont think its "cannon" to the previous story line. its like when people complain that in lotr pippins hand are bound in one scene, unbound in the next shot then bound again in the shot following that. cant you look past that and just enjoy the cartoon?

It was not a mistake. Pintsize and Winslow, however interesting, are appliances. There, I said it: sensually, I'm a fleshist.*

Jimbo is much too peripheral a character. If ya include him then you have to throw in Ellen, Meena, her axe murderer roommate, Benji, Angus, Faye's sister, Ms. Vance, and the Bianchi elders. And probably god knows who else.

       Make a heluva pile, though.
