(this is Bush leaving town)
-
i want cheney hanged for war profiteering.
-
Isnt it kinda mean to pick on an invalid old man?
Also, just wondering, what is the difference between a banana and a firetruck?
-
What traits did you give him? Charismatic and Creative seems like obvious choices.
-
The actual swearing in I was not able to catch on the tele, I was on my way to class at the time. But I did hear it on the radio. I did happen to catch most of the address on a TV they had set out in the student commons.
I am celebrating by going to work and closing out the lab tonight yaaaay
-
I am celebrating tonight.
I bought a coke
LOOK OUT, NORWAY!
-
haha no worries. i fully support booze-free partying; it's actually my favorite kind of partying (i am not much of a drinker).
that said, tonight i am probably going to drink some whiskey and play Fable 2 in honor of our shiny new president.
-
I'm going to a party because my friends will be there. Otherwise, I wouldn't do anything special.
-
(possibly not the correct board, since it is politically charged? I don't personally care, just an observation)
I was really happy with the address he gave. None of that "pull this out and shove it in a textbook" quotable shit until the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery came on with his benediction bit, and his was funny, if slightly hard to understand because of slurring consonants.
My favorite part of the procession toward the White House was when the younger of his daughters (Sasha, I think?) ran up the walkway to the door, completely over the moon with excitement. I thought that was the cutest thing ever, to see a little kid so happy and excited. Really heartwarming.
I also liked the shot of Bush applauding after Obama's address was finished. His clearly defeated-looking face was priceless. As Shane put it, "Perma-scowl".
-
On monday i want to a pre-inauguration party. There was a stand of obama and everything, it was pretty cool.
Did anyone actually go out into Washington to see it?
-
You should probably be quieter then. I bet she can hear you.
Also posting it on the forums probably doesn't help.
-
Cynical as I am, it was cool to see how happy everyone was and to actually share in their happiness for once.
same here.
i mean, i didn't actually watch it but i knew it was going on and i'm pretty sure i could feel the happiness from here anyway.
-
I am going to celebrate tonight by going out to see Hot Chip.
tbh I was already seeing them, but still: CELEBRATIONS.
-

(I am actually going to drink whisky too but Kristin thinks I am an alcoholic so I have to be really really quiet)
:-o
(I am not shocked about you drinking whiskey, I'm shocked that you have any left.)
-
And Kris reveals that is, in fact, worse than we all thought.
-
Also I am very disappointed in Obama for not helping my brother to get rid of his alcoholism. He has been president for almost eight hours, I was expecting results by now.
-
That's on the agenda for Thursday, Kris. Be patient.
-
This is the chemical warfare people are talking about all the time.
-
I have never been more excited and hopeful about my own government than today. I truly hope that he can live up to the burdens of expectation upon him now.
-
Now that the inaguration is over and Obama's officially president, does this mean we can go back to being cynical and distrusting the government?
-
No because generally it is a good idea to not be a dick.
Just sayin'.
-
No because generally it is a good idea to not be a dick.
Just sayin'.
Might want to give that message to the other posters on this forum then.
... just sayin' :-P
-
Popcorn pretty much elevates any gathering to party status.
-
I prefer to be cautiously optimistic than cynical all the time. It makes my day-to-day life a little less negative all the time that way.
I am interested to see what Obama gets up to. I am sure (as other people have said) he will make "good" and "bad" decisions, but it will still be interesting from a sort-of outsider perspective. I don't say that Australia is removed from US politics, especially not in the past when our Prime Minister was essentially Bush's lapdog, but we have a different governmental system, so seeing how the US tries to fix what "bad" decisions Bush made will be interesting to watch.
Man, I use the word interesting a lot.
-
how . . . interesting.
-
No because generally it is a good idea to not be a dick.
Just sayin'.
You take that back
-
I will do no such thing Kieffer. That statement applies to you as well, no matter how well you dress.
-
Today my art class(five people) went out into the cafeteria and watched it! My teacher let us skip the class without saying anything but this,"Oh? You all are going to the bathroom and not coming back until after that man is president? That's okay!" and then she winked.
It was pretty stellar, we got in trouble though because we all ended up hooting and hollering. That poet was AWFUL though.
Ffff yes I want an Obama, actually, I want Canadian politics to make sense.
-
I watched the inauguration today too! It was pretty cool. I woke up, went upstairs, saw Biden get sworn in till the poet came on and was like okay I'm done and ate breakfast and looked at the forums.
Hells yes. Sometimes good things happen when your school is like 5 blocks from the capitol.
-
Today in my cafe there was the cutest little girl in pigtails and a pink sundress excitedly telling her mother's friend that she watched President Banana this morning.
-

Nope, guess again.
-
My friend apparently had 12th row seats to the Inauguration. Lucky bastard.
-
Nope, guess again.
Hmm, no, I will stand by what I said. Thanks for playing!
-
Nope, guess again.
Stop posting this in every thread.
Hey I've got a riddle for you:
What kind of idiot stays up til 2:30am watching Wolf Blitzer say "historic" 10 times a minute on CNN when he has to get up at 6am? Me, I am the idiot.
-
I think that's why he's doing it
The drive home from class I heard the whole speech. I cried a little

Nope, guess again.
Stop posting this in every thread.
I only post it in threads where people think the wrong thing and then need to attempt to get it right with a second guess.

estimates of about 1.5 to 2 million people there to see the inauguration.
-
Ally what is the most adorable thing?
Today in my cafe there was the cutest little girl in pigtails and a pink sundress excitedly telling her mother's friend that she watched President Banana this morning.
-
So I sat in my front room.

Drinking Samuel Adams lager.
And I dared to dream.
-
If they have Korça in the market down the street I am going to buy a 6 pack and enjoy one a day. If I'm going to be retarded and giddy, goddamn it I need a BAC to match.
-
Last night me and my friends celebrated Obama's inauguration the best way we knew how. By taking a gallon water bottle shaped like a huge drum and bongineered it into a kick ass trash can grav (named Isaac Newton) and got more fucked up than I've ever been. Legalize in '09 bitches.**
**I realize that its still a long way comin' before marijuana is legalized throughout the 50 states, but there's a better chance in this presidency than Bush's by god.
-
Seeing how I live like .5 miles from the DC line, I would be amiss if I didn't post the SWEET ASS PICTURES ON MY CAMERA taken downtown in the blistering cold when I get home from work;) Did anyone else actually make it there?
-

estimates of about 1.5 to 2 million people there to see the inauguration.
And people in gabbly were wondering why I didn't want to go down.
Amanda you are a better human being than me.
-
i missed the inauguration cos i had an appointment scheduled with one of my professors at the same time. the appointment ended up being way late anyway because he wouldn't let me into his office until he finished watching it. what a waste.
-
I'm going to miss Bush.

Starbucks is killing the world. It was SO FUCKING COLD though, can forgive people for buying the coffee.
-
holy shit
-
Yeah, apparently there is a ton of trash on the mall, since they can't have trashcans because you can apparently put bombs in them.
Sometimes people are just too silly.
-
The local paper was saying something along the lines that in Obama's first full day in office, he has already started working on plans to undo what Bush has done for the previous 8 years. This man is clearly serious about following through on what he has said.
-
I wish I had been able to make it out there for inauguration. I was going to stay with a cousin who recently got married and now lives with her husband in Alexandria and we were both going to head in, but in the end neither of us wanted to take the effort. I didn't want to drive down there and neither of us wanted to wak eup at three in the morning to get close. Regret it to my dying day? Maybe.
-
I was going to offer my spare room out on here in case someone in MDish area wanted to stay closer, but ended up having people sleeping on every fairly soft surface in my house that night so it's probably for the best that I did not.
-
I almost wouldn't want to be there, the crowds at Hogmanay in Edinburgh this year were bad enough, and that was only 100,000. Imagine how panicked I'd be if it were 3 million.
