I am going to keep you guys updated on a semi regular basis on things that are out. Things that really have no place on this board anymore, or in the world in general. I figured you guys would appreciate this, since it will make it easier for you to avoid doing things that suck!
First and foremost, we're done with moar. I don't really understand why it started, but seriously dudes? It is a pretty dumb thing! I know it is an internet thing, but seeing as generally we are against all of the internetty bullshit, I think we can do without that one.
Also, name, is over. I've noticed a decrease in it, recently, and that's good, but I just want to make sure we know its done. It was stolen from hipinion in the first place, and since the board seems to be anti-them , maybe we can let it go? Especially since we just use it as a creepy thing?
I'll have more for you guys later, as soon as people start doing something else dumb!

Pretty much. I nearly followed up one of those with a "I see what you did there" post just to make it extra lame, but then I would have had to skullfuck myself to death for being a dumb ass.
Also, I get the impression that Animal Ghosts is only bothering to post here so much again because the state of Colorado gave it to him rough. I'm betting the grades he'd hand out to us aren't so hot right now.

Speaking of, can we get over this whole "anything Animal Ghosts does sucks" thing? I understand that I probably insulted you at some point, and at some point I probably pissed you off, but like, can we move on? I am really not that bad these days, dudes. I get that having a villain on the board brings you all together, but having me be the Other to your l'etranger is pretty passe by this point.
And yeah, we can be done with threads with thread in the name too. I thought I made that point in the title, but maybe it wasn't quite clear enough. Lets be done with "thread" threads. I get that it's an easy way to describe things, but like, a little imagination please. For the good of the board, for the good of us all.

Dude the term "hipster" is way older than indie rock, it used to be another term for beatniks or for dudes who listened to Davis and Coltrane. It's been around since at least the 1950's. To say that it is a static term that refers to a very particular form of fashion is pretty short sighted. Look at any of those films from the nineties that major studios made to appeal to the "indie" crowd of that time and tell if the hipsters of 1995 look anything like the hipsters in last week's Vice and also oh shit i can't believe i got sucked into another one of these conversations hey let's explain to some hapless sap what "emo" really means now ok

No, posting about how cute Lunchy is is a little more acceptable, because it's done to a less nauseating degree, and usually in more polite ways.
Also lets be done with the "I would totally sex up/make out with/etc" stuff. I might just be opposed to it because it used to be my thing and now I feel like if I want to do weird creepy flirting I have to go so over the top it is actually creepy, or it might just be that it is mad creepy when you guys do it all the time. Either way!

it's still a bit overdone in my opinion, but i guess it's not something that is uber annoying and needs to be stopped immediately.
also, i find some of the compliments lunchy gets more creepy than the ones jodie gets because you can just tell that the people writing them are trying so very hard not to seem like creepy strangers on the internet but it just ends up having the exact opposite effect.

my main problem with name, and the constant "i want to make out with/sex up/etc" thing is that it seems like most of the regulars just sort of do it to all of the other regulars by default, and there isn't really any attempt to be creative or selective about it anymore, and it's become kind of predictable and redundant? under regular circumstances i probably wouldn't care enough to complain about how this annoys me but since we now have a thread for it, there's my input.

i don't mind "thanks for posting". it's a way of letting someone know their post was sort of stupid and pointless that's more polite than saying "your post was stupid and pointless."
most of the little things i get irritated by regarding posting mainly go around that unwritten rule of how you should put a little bit of thought into what you are posting and consider whether or not people will actually care about it (which is, again, why i get annoyed when the same people constantly hit on the same other people every time they post a picture regardless of how repetitive or unnecessary it's become), so lightly reminding people to think a bit more carefully before they post if skipping that step becomes a habit for them doesn't really seem like a bad thing to me. just my personal preference though.

The only times I find "Thanks for posting!" amusing are when tommy does it as a dig at me. Sort of like how annoying internet sayings are amusing when done once in a long while as a joke. Otherwise, yeah I find it pretty annoying.

it also goes back, however, to the thing discussed in another thread of how if you do it in a public space (and it is a public forum), other people can also see and learn from the situation and make a note of it for future reference, so you don't end up having to individually pm everybody. pros and cons from both sides. i don't think it's all that mean but that's me. overdoing it gets redundant just like anything overdone gets redundant though.

Honestly, I don't think you should publicly chastise someone without accepting the fact that there'll probably be people who will think you're being a bit of an ass first. Using euphemistic language like "Thanks for posting!" doesn't really help at all, honestly, since it comes across as incredibly dismissive. You simply shouldn't do it unless you're ready to sack up and live with the fallout. That's why I try to post at length when I'm being genuinely critical and mean it constructively; if you ever see me make a "thanks for posting!" comment, it'll be because I'm ribbing a fellow regular or because I intend to be a dick, no exceptions.
