So I was driving yesterday with the windows down because it's finally getting warm around here, playing Cap'n Jazz really loud, and eating McDonalds. it was basically the best thing ever, mostly because Cap'n Jazz, but also because it fit with the driving and the fries and just generally made me feel fuzzy on the inside. anyway, what I want to know is what other activities become exponentially more enjoyable with the right music playing, and what the right music is, for you guys. The Unicorns in the Shower? Daft Punk while vacuuming? Gorgoroth while cooking? Anything.

Ha... Cap'n Jazz is an interesting choice for "feeling happy" music.
I am absolutely happiest when I am playing something energetic really loudly while I am driving - whether it's Islands or All Girl Summer Fun Band or Hanson. Sometimes it's dangerous though because dancing while driving is probably not the smartest thing to do.

When I'm sleepy and need a break from working/studying/whatever I like to lie down, close my eyes, and crank up some Eluvium. It's probably the closest I'll come to a blissfully meditative state.
-
I love listening to Thelonious Monk's Monk's Dream in light rain. Or heavy rain, I guess, but light rain is best.
-
Boards of Canada= Best study music ever
Driving with mellowed out or shoe-gazey stuff is always good too.
-
Stargazing with My Bloody Valentine or M83 is pretty excellent.
-
ZZ Top while driving.
-
Scatman John with living.
-
Judas Priest whilst breaking the law.

Vikings singing to me in four part harmony about spam whilst I pad my post count.
-
Midian by Cradle Of Filth, whilst having a cold, whilst doing housework.
When I have a cold I can sort of gurgle along with Danni.

THE STOOGES

Riding in the bed of a pickup truck blasting the "Juno" soundtrack on a bright summer afternoon.
-
Belle & Sebastian while doing homework; I suppose it's not something that makes me happy, but it goes along smoothly.
-
Iron & Wine, every night whilst I fall asleep. It makes my everything happy.
-
Iron & Wine.
You don't really need to explain any more than that.
-
The album There's Nothing Wrong With Love by Built To Spill for when I am feeling down. I don't know why or how but it makes me want to go to sleep just so I can see a better day tomorrow, which usually works.
-
Iron Maiden when I sleep.
-
Sigur Ros' Takk in the pouring rain.
It's like life in HD.
-
^ Holy fuck a thousand times THIS.
-
Explosions in the Sky while making out with someone you love; it is intense!
-
Black Moth Super Rainbow the morning after an all-night BBQ, it's warm out and there's a light breeze whistling through the curtains.
Agalloch when you're driving through a snow-capped forest with nary a man in sight.
Architecture in Helsinki when it's just starting to snow at a metro station in the middle of the city.
Pretty Lights amongst the sweaty bodies grinding against each other in someone's basement.
Boards of Canada on the train out of the city.
Colour Haze and Dead Meadow in the smoke-filled room of your apartment.
-
Teenage Fanclub for sunny days.
-
Boards of Canada on the train out of the city.
This reminded me of the time I spent hours with my girlfriend staring at the stars and listening to The Campfire Headphase.
-
The first night my girlfriend spent the night when I visited Alaska last month, I had Cat Power's cover of "The Dark End Of The Street" (title track of the EP) playing. That shit was magical.

What?
Anyway if you wish to feel happy and you are not listening to Cap'n Jazz Algernon Cadwallader will do the trick.
-
The Thermals while doing pretty much anything. Specifically at max volume while driving on the Thruway. The Hold Steady while drinking with a bunch of friends. Also, Wilco while smoking a cigarette or 20 at night.
-
Beulah, specifically When Your Heartstrings Break, on the day that you feel spring has truly begun.
-
What?
Don't get me wrong, I love Cap'n Jazz. I just wouldn't exactly say Tim Kinsella's voice makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
To each their own, though.
-
Radar Love and Highway Star for driving.
Hard rock/metal during sports.
Raise A Little Hell while doing anything rebellious.

Tim Hecker after a surf session- preferably after surfing a glassy, barrelling wave. If I had some imagination I'd put some pretentious metaphor here; suffice to say that it's pretty awesome. I swear Timmy wrote Rainbow Blood when he was getting barrelled.
-
Belle & Sebastian while doing homework; I suppose it's not something that makes me happy, but it goes along smoothly.
This.
-
The Field pretty much anywhere
-
Conor Oberst's s/t whilst doing absolutely nothing at all. :-)

i was slowly strolling into town t'other day (when it was REALLY sunny, so much so there was a little heat haze visible at the end of the road), whilst listening to "victor jara's hands" by calexico, soaking up the cool breeze. it was awesome.

(Sort of related) I have a headphone jack in my ski helmet, I am excited, once I get the right wire I can ski with music playing. It will be ace. Unforunately I won't be skiing again until this winter, but whatever. Once it gets closer I will make a playlist.

That is pretty awesome.
