I'm not denying they're good; I agree they're delicious. it's just, thin mints are even better.

On a related note, I read about someone who bought five boxes of cookies from the girl scouts, and after walking away he opened the boxes and found out they were filled with rocks. I don't know for sure if this is a true story, but I'm definitely going to be careful from now on.

Problem with that idea is that it's a group, not just a title.  You can be a part of multiple groups and SMF just lists all of them out.  SMF really does do a shitty job on titles.

There is no rock 'n' roll left in New York. Everyone's playing fucking post-this or math-that. The last legitimate punk rock show I went to was in a public park in Williamsburg, with Tommy, Phil, Tyler, and Huda.

No I lied, I have seen SHAPES (http://www.myspace.com/shapesband) a bunch lately, but I've been coming to their shows as a photographer which prevents me from moshing too much. I did get super into it and was photographing from inside the sweaty, insane crowd (and standing on monitors, dangling off shit to get shots) last time. I posted the results in the Photo Thread (and cross-posted in the photography thread) last week.

Eugene I am sorry but I just don't believe that. I mean, I'll buy that there are a lot of post-math-shit bands around in NYC but shit I refuse to accept that there is no DIY punk scene in fucking new york city. No way. Especially not if ABC No Rio is still standing.

Precious few punk bands left, and even less with any talent. There is a lot of great music, to be sure, but it seems like the appeal of simple music you can rock out to is lost to those making it. Everything has to be pushing the boundaries or creating something new (only it's all exactly the same). Which sucks, cause all I want is a punk rock band. I am a better guitar player than that and I can do more intricate things but it's simply not as fun at this point.

MrBlu, those aren't photos I took, they are photos with me in them. I am the one wearing the checked red shirt (and then not wearing it).

Gene go to ABC No Rio this saturday. I looked at their website and noticed Hjertestop is playing there saturday. They are just some dudes from Denmark but DC is going fucking crazy over the show they are supposed to play thursday here. They play simple, fun, and catchy punk.

I mean they are a touring band but you might catch a nice local act/near local act there as well.

ABC No Rio is a cool place, yeah. Punk isn't gone, it's just at a bare minimum right now.

Well, all of the people with photo or video cameras at that particular event (and most of the things I attend) were doing so as a favor to the bands. Bands like photo and video evidence of their concerts! It's great for promotion among other things.

I do, however, agree with you when it comes to teenagers taking portable point-and-shoot cameras everywhere and taking pictures of themselves doing absolutely nothing so that they can go on Facebook and everyone can see how their friends were doing absolutely nothing.

There are very few pictures of me for this exact reason. What is funny is that my ex girlfriend is exactly like that. She has like 600+ photos on her facebook and there are only like 6 that are different.
