Simple rule of graphic design: unless it's got a history (Garamond, Times, Helvetica etc.) you should never use fonts that come with your computer, as it's overused already. ESPECIALLY if said font is Comic Sans. Though in this case, It's used for a sign for a sex shop. That's just the sort of font a client might require their logo to be in, no matter how much little moogoob at the sign-shop would rather not touch it with a ten-foot pole. So I can forgive Jeph this time.

I'm sure he'll sleep better knowing that.

I know, I don't really care much either way. I was simply explaining the issue for the second poster, no need for everyone to get defensive. Sheesh.

Moogoob, I don't think anyone was getting on you.  You just posted in between everyone else and the initial post.

I can see how it could be a joke, since the lady in the shop seems like one of the (sadly) millions of people out there who might be inclined to use papyrus, but man oh man, every time I see that font, I cringe and my soul hurts.  Joke or no joke.

"Lovecraft"?  (the third link down)

Not a name that I'd normally associate with sex.

But here you are following a rule that every graphic designer of the last 10years knows and follows, so it's kind of your education that teaches you not to use it, and mainstream pressure. Maybe designers are under-using Comic Sans purely because they were taught too under-use it. And if you follow a rule on what font not to use simply because of it's popularity with common people... well you're shutting off parts of your creativity...

dont just ban comic sans, if you cant give a good reason why you dont like the font (cept for overuse)

Ban it because it is one of the worst looking fonts ever conceived.

Nothing wrong with wanting to stand out from the other webcomics out there. I dunno what Jeph uses for the QC dialogue, but it works for me. Give me Anime Ace (the font of choice for Starslip among others) over Comic Sans anyday. (Though I still prefer to use VAG Rounded for TLT.)

But Comic Sans IS overused by non-designers. We'd have much less of a problem with it if every second MS-Word-toting office worker didn't think it'd be cute to do up the memo for "Bring your kids to work day" in that font. Same goes for Times and Arial, though in those cases it's much more subtle overuse as those are the default Windows Serif and Sans and thus overused by default. If something is too familiar, it loses its impact.

Speaking of which, the font Impact should only be used for cat macros. :p

Papyrus is a knife in my back, and its overuse is just the twisting of the blade...  I don't know what it is, but I just cannot stand the font at all, overused or not.

The other font that I think should burn in hell alongside Papyrus and Comic Sans is Jazztext.  Maybe it's the ex-Jazz Studies Composition Major in me, but if I see one more jazz student printing out a score using that font, I might freak out.  And Hal Leonard should join the fonts in hell for officially bastardizing the Real Book.

For most everything I do, I just type the standard font (generally Times New Roman).

When I was 12, all my IMs were in Comic Sans. I'm sorry.

When I was about 15, I changed them all to Papyrus. I'm sorry.

This is the font I use now. Even this feels too fancy.
