Title: Google trends
Post by: JD on 13 Apr 2009, 15:39
I've been goofing around with this looking for odd trends. for example,

Searched for: world domination
(http://www.google.com/trends/viz?q=world+domination&date=all&geo=all&graph=weekly_img&sort=0&sa=N)
Country that searched for it the most: Austrailia

Another?

Searched for: anal porn
(http://www.google.com/trends/viz?q=anal+porn&date=all&geo=all&graph=weekly_img&sort=0&sa=N)

What the hell happened in 2005?

Why does weed get so much more popular (sharp spike) halfway through the year?

Because then people are searching for how to get rid of garden weeds as well as the medicinal variety.

4/20, maybe?

P.S. Chairs seem to see a fairly regular lull every October!

P.P.S. Colours see a sharp decline regularly mid-December!

Given that the top searchers are countries with large Christian presences, I'd guess it's for Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras aka Pancake Day.

Yeah, a bunch of other slightly deviant sexual activities jump (group sex, swingers, free porn)... sex itself has a pretty sizeable jump, actually, but it dwarfs anything else you put on a graph, so comparison doesn't work too well.
Seems unlikely that it can all be attributed to Brokeback Mountain. But if not that, then what?

On a rather sad note: http://www.google.com/trends?q=porn&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Porn search spikes before Christmas. Every year. So when everyone has happy get-togethers with their families, a lot of sad men spend their time crying and fapping while dreaming of a family and/or a girlfriend to spend Christmas with.
