I've been goofing around with this looking for odd trends. for example,
Searched for: world domination
(http://www.google.com/trends/viz?q=world+domination&date=all&geo=all&graph=weekly_img&sort=0&sa=N)
Country that searched for it the most: Austrailia
Another?
Searched for: anal porn
(http://www.google.com/trends/viz?q=anal+porn&date=all&geo=all&graph=weekly_img&sort=0&sa=N)
What the hell happened in 2005?
-
i always suspected that Australia was plotting something down there.
-
http://www.google.com/trends?q=weed&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
Why does weed get so much more popular (sharp spike) halfway through the year?
-
Because then people are searching for how to get rid of garden weeds as well as the medicinal variety.
-
people seem to be less and less interested in satan these days.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=satan&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 (http://www.google.com/trends?q=satan&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)
edit: haha people sure got interested in silly string (http://www.google.com/trends?q=satan&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0) at the end of '06!
-
http://www.google.com/trends?q=weed&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
Why does weed get so much more popular (sharp spike) halfway through the year?
4/20, maybe?
Edit: Yeah, looking at just one year (http://www.google.com/trends?q=weed&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006&sort=0), it's almost definitely a spike at 4/20.
-
AHHHH, C'MON FUCK A TREND (http://www.google.com/trends?q=chuggo&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)
-
Wow, that one's hilarious.
-
'Pancakes' has a serious spike every February, come on guys, what are other things in which we expect a well-defined periodic bias?
P.S. Chairs seem to see a fairly regular lull every October!
P.P.S. Colours see a sharp decline regularly mid-December!
-
http://www.google.com/trends?q=cthulu&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
Why the sudden spike of hits in mid 2007?
-
people googling google is on the rise (http://www.google.com/trends?q=google)
Wait, what?
-
"Economy" (http://www.google.com/trends?q=economy&ctab=0&geo=all) peaks in April and drops off just before the New Year. India's government's fiscal year runs April-April; I don't know if that could have anything to do with it.
-
Sarah Palin: http://www.google.com/trends?q=sarah+palin&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
-
i can't wait for the inevitable Google Trends trends, where you can see the trends of what Google Trends people are Googling.

Sarah Palin: http://www.google.com/trends?q=sarah+palin&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
Haha holy shit that was funny to see.

French toast and waffles are very similar, however waffles had serious spike in mid 2004. Pancakes is more consistent.

'Pancakes' has a serious spike every February
Given that the top searchers are countries with large Christian presences, I'd guess it's for Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras aka Pancake Day.
Feminism shows a regular lull in the summer?
http://www.google.com/trends?q=feminism&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

you should probably post what colors each of them are, Karamazov

Good for you, Soulja Boy, good for you.

French toast is orange, waffles are red, and pancakes are blue.
Woo logic!
-
Woo just click the link

I enjoyed working it out.

san francisco got high-speed internet?
-
It amuses me that Britain (http://www.google.com/trends?q=Gay+porn&date=all&geo=gbr&ctab=0&sort=0&sa=N) is pretty consistent in searching for gay porn.
-
http://www.google.com/trends?q=superbowl&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 (http://www.google.com/trends?q=superbowl&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)
Was 2004 a big year superbowl-wise?
That was the year of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. Proving once again that the internet is about the boobies.
EDIT: When I added Janet Jackson to superbowl to test the above, Salt Lake City led in the searches.

In Chicago, NMH can stand for Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
-
But why is NMH searched for more in Norwegian, I wonder?
-
Norges Musikkhøgskole (http://www.nmh.no/) (translates to Norwegian Academy of Music)
(I had to google that to find out.)
-
Nah man, add pikachu after charmander and you have the perfect color match.

So according to the front page there's suddenly a whole lot of interest in Jill Hennessy. Why?
Interestingly, I don't want to google it for fear of contaminating their data.
-
So you know how there was that spike in anal porn?
Blue = anal porn
Red = dildo
Orange = blowjob
What happened?
Edit: Colours fixed.
-
How can blue be anal porn and blowjob?
-
Goatse (http://www.google.com/trends?q=Goatse&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)

So you know how there was that spike in anal porn?
*snip*
What happened?
I'll tell you what happened:
blue: anal
red: blowjob
orange: gay sex
green: (wait for it.... ) brokeback mountain
-
(http://i.somethingawful.com/u/petey/comedygoldmine/2009a/april/analporn2.jpg)
I question that theory
-
Yeah, a bunch of other slightly deviant sexual activities jump (group sex, swingers, free porn)... sex itself has a pretty sizeable jump, actually, but it dwarfs anything else you put on a graph, so comparison doesn't work too well.
Seems unlikely that it can all be attributed to Brokeback Mountain. But if not that, then what?
-
On a rather sad note: http://www.google.com/trends?q=porn&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
Porn search spikes before Christmas. Every year. So when everyone has happy get-togethers with their families, a lot of sad men spend their time crying and fapping while dreaming of a family and/or a girlfriend to spend Christmas with.
:|
EDIT:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=questionable+content&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
What happened March 2008?
-
I find it a tad surprising that the three-week old story has only been viewed 1050 times (when I read it).
-
China probably blocked the site so no one that is actually affected by it could know about it.

:?
-
Oh yes, the year's changed; these things sometimes pass me by...
-
It's okay, 2009 doesn't have a World Cup in it so it's not a real year.
-
Nor a Eurocup or an olympics.
That basically makes all odd years not real years.
-
Sweet, then I don't have a real birthday. And I can never get verifiably old.
-
Can't be, those only happen on even years.
(He must be being really tricksy)

I always knew nobody was in thailand.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=ladyboys&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
what the hell Ireland!
-
What I find most worrying is that 7 out of 10 of the cities that searched for that most were in the British Isles.
(Though it could be because of Ladyboys of Bangkok, does they have that anywhere else?)
-
I think I read somewhere that male to female transexual porn was one of the most common (might have been the most common, can't remember but it was surprisingly popular) subgenres(?) for straight men.
-
seriously can someone please explain to me why "colon" seems to spike hugely in like september and then drop off at christmas
-
Baby Jesus, man. He cries at the sight of buttsecks.
As for September, that's around when football season starts, no?
-
Yup. For Panama, the Dominican Republic, Argentina...it's all about the football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colón_de_Santa_Fe), man.

Baseball playoffs. Bartolo Colon.

This is "death" in 2006.
What happened June 2006?

may have had something to do with Saddam Hussein being sentanced to death

News Network fight (http://www.google.com/trends?q=Fox%2C+CNN%2C+NBC%2C+MSNBC)
It's amusing that the biggest spike was when CNN did their "hologram" thing.

wait, I think I understand (http://www.google.com/trends?q=black+metal%2C+death+metal%2C+heavy+metal%2C+emo&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)
-
Check out the 'emo is dead' article slightly before the start of the decline of the popularity of emo. Nice call, Contra Costa Times.
-
The article itself appears to be gone, however.
-
Who died? Well who the fuck is that? (http://www.google.com/trends?q=ricardo+montalban&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)
-
A victory for feminism (http://www.google.com/trends?q=cunt&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)?
Amusing that the death of George Carlin has seemingly been pretty much the only thing to inspire proper news sources to say cunt. Also, I wonder what that christmas 2007 spike was about.

This thread is so entertaining, i love it
