Only one thing worth noting: Dylan got 29 votes, Davis got 30 last round. I think it's pretty neat that we have such a low-seeded final round.
Again, one week - voting closes 20:00GMT on 4 May 2009

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
-
Bob.
-
Miles Davis
-
Miles all the way.
-
Bob.
-
Dylan's is the better of these two albums. That said, it's not even close to the best album ever. Oh well.
Dylan.
-
Dylan, though it's not even in my personal top 10. Maybe not even 20.
-
Guys, we're witnessing democracy at work!
Three cheers for mediocrity!
-
Neil You-
Oh... Bob then.
-
Congratulations, guys. We just became Rolling Stone.
-
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
Having reviewed the rounds up until this point, I feel pretty safe saying that this forum has fucking terrible taste in music.
Anyway, Davis.
-
Congratulations, guys. We just became Rolling Stone.
Well, that was the point of this whole Album Nomination thingy, no?
Anyways, I'm voting for Mr. D.
-
Clever. I'm inclined to vote in a similarly vague and half-assed fashion. I may remember wrong, but I don't think I've really had much investment in this since Unknown Pleasures got voted out. I really don't care much about Bringing It All Back Home. Like, it's all right I guess. I'll listen to it occasionally. I guess I will go with Miles Davis then, but even then it's not a whole lot better. It's good, but I feel like we ended up with these albums that are like Good AlbumsŪ instead of ones anyone is really passionate about.
-
Bob.
-

I agree with this. I think it's difficult to avoid on a forum of people who seem pretty well educated on (and interested in) the context and history of the music they listen to. I guess that makes us uncomfortable calling some of our personal favourite albums "the greatest albums of all time" and instead choose albums that are considered more canonical or influential.
I am guilty of this. I nominated Things We Lost in the Fire even though Secret Name is my favourite Low album. I just wanted to see them make it into the competition, and I am happy that they made it so far.
-
Hey, I nominated my favourite records, but I can distinguish between which is my favourite and which I consider the best ones, for the most part. Doesn't mean I'm right, mind.
But I honsetly consider Dylan an all-time great, and that record is in his top 3, if not the best, so I've got no problem with it.

Yeah. The distinction between "Favorite Music" and "Best Music" is a muddy line, if it's a line at all. Is not your favorite what is best to you? Or can our musical appreciation go beyond what we ourselves prefer?
Fuck that. Abstention from the Championship. Of the four that were in round 5, I would've probably picked Abbey Road.

SILKWORM- FIREWATER
-
Miles Davis
-
I think we should consider this process to be like training, as for the military, or the theatre, or the ballet, or for a set-piece in a game of football. You don't expect to get it right the first time. You do it again and again and again until you do get it right.
I think we should do it again and again and again until we get it right.
-
SILKWORM- FIREWATER
If we were going that route, I'd be all about
(http://www.jezebelmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/image/Galaxie500_Today.png)
And Harry has an interesting idea. What if we just did this endlessly, the only rule being once an album has been in the tournament, it cannot be in the subsequent one? So I mean if you really really want to vote for Abbey Road again or summat that's fine but some culling of the fold and renewing of the pool would be desirable.
EDIT: Also someone other than Matt should have to do all the work in future iterations. Thanks Matt! This was a really cool thing you did.

Miles Davis
-
Miles
sigh
Although, realistically, it's not a bad pick. I would have seen it in the top twenty in a personal list.
It just seems anti-climactic.
-
Dylan
-
Dylan
-
Bob Dylan
-
Kind of Blue
-
Kind of Blue
(Although I kind of side with Harry on this record)
-
Bob
-
Bob Dylan.
Wait, Bob Dylan?
Oh. Okay. Bob Dylan it is, I guess.
Miles Davis is kind of ugly.
-
Miles Davis.
-
SILKWORM- FIREWATER
-
Any album winning would probably only be considered number one by only a couple of people.
All this whining just sounds childish to me.
-
Abstaining!
-
I'm calling bullshit because this competition started before the new Future of the Left album came out.
-
Miles
An amusing choice between two albums that are not the tops for either artist.
-
Bringing it All Back Home
I had great difficulty choosing this over Sgt Pepper, and another day it could have gone otherwise. None the less, Tommy's not wrong; this is not a feeble least-worst choice.
-
Personally I think Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde were superior records. While Bringing it all Back Home was probably more important considering the electric switch, I just see the other two as musically more complete.
-
Judas
(Disclaimer: The above statement is not representative of my beliefs concerning Bob Dylan's music, of which I like the electric stuff quite a lot, definitely more so than the acoustic stuff although that was pretty damn good too.)
-
I feel like we ended up with these albums that are like Good AlbumsŪ instead of ones anyone is really passionate about.
-
Bob Dylan, though I agree with Inlander that we should probbably do it again someday, now that the "cliche" albums have been voted on. People will be able to post their fav albums without fear of being "right."
-
Miles Davis is kind of ugly.
-
Bob Dylan.
And I was really invested in this until London Calling got voted out. That is an album which is both influential and one of my personal favorites. :P
-
Dylan
-
Kind of Blue
And how can anyone dare to call this a mediocre choice? This is definitely one of the best albums in music history.
-
You guys realize that I would have voted for Aqua over half the favorites often cited on this forum, right? You know, those people that did that one Barbie Girl song. I really hate that song. I apologize for liking "cliched" albums, whatever the hell that even means.
-
yeah i'll go with Bob Dylan
-
I think we should do it again and again and again until we get it right.
man dogg someone else do it next time. I had fun, but it's a lot of work.
(and I'm glad you guys had fun with it.)
-
I didn't mean to whine terribly, if that's how my comment has been read. And I'm glad to be proven wrong; I'd rather someone be really happy with the winner than everyone feel vaguely dissatisfied. And you know, maybe I was just being a sore loser or something. I would love to do this again, though, either way.
-
Miles Davis- Kind of Blue
Though these are both only "very good" albums. There were plenty of "excellent" and/or "perfect/almost perfect" on the list, but most of them got voted out pretty early on. Too bad.
-
You mean Graceland?
Aww, crap, I was trying to be contrary there when it turns out you WERE one of the people other than me that voted for Graceland.
-
Well, at least we're not Pitchfork, hey?
YESSS FUCK YOUUUU JEFF MANGUM
-
Congratulations, guys. We just became Rolling Stone.
Well, at least we're not Pitchfork, hey?
This is the preferable scenario.
-
With my love for jazz, it's almost mandatory for Kind of Blue to win.
-
If you love jazz, but still think Kind of Blue deserves to win this, you have not been listening to very good jazz music.
I mean, Kind of Blue is pretty good. But there are so many better records, even from Miles.
-
I'm saying if it came down to most genres vs. jazz, I'd probably pick jazz.
-
But this really isn't a battle of genres, is it?
And would you really pick Kenny G? And Diana Krall?
-
Or maybe he just finds the style of Miles Davis better than the style of Bob Dylan on the whole?
-
But that also isn't what the vote is about, is it?
-
Mr Robert Zimmerman.
-
Avec's voting method is legit. I like most metal more than I like most punk and so I wouldn't bother trying to pretend that I can choose which album is supposed to be empirically more awesome despite my own preferences either.
-
It's obviously about preferences. I'm just saying that the voting should be based on the album, not the genre. I definitely prefer jazz to folk as a whole, but there's no chance in the world that I would vote for Kind Of Blue over Bringing It All Back Home.
-
Considering Kind Of Blue is one of my favorite albums ever, I guess I should probably vote for that one.
-
NO THAT IS A SILLY CRITERIA
-
OK FINE THEN. I VOTE FOR NICKELBACK!!
-

I think he was just saying "I like Davis's album more than Dylan's album because Davis's album has a style that I enjoy more."
Don't get so down on people about this, man. It's just a game after all.
-
Yes but at the end of the game everyone who voted for the losing album will be shot.
-
And that is why I abstained!
-
That's why I voted for Dylan.
He can't possibly lose to Miles Davis' 3rd best album.
I don't want to die oh god.
-
Don't worry, it won't be a lethal gunshot wound, just a permanently debilitating one.
-
And that is why I abstained!
But this way you get shot regardless.
-
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Not even his best, but I like it more that all but one of Dylan's album. And this one isn't the one.
-
Miles Davis
-
Mr. Bob.
Damn everyone that didn't vote for Low last round. DAMN YOU ALL.
-
DAMN YOU ALL.
-
This shit be CLOSED.
