Title: Who is the best at QC.
Post by: Professor Snuggles on 03 May 2009, 21:26
Since we have established that Dollface is the best new boarder, I am wondering who people think is just the best at posting on the internet. I am not really sure, myself since there is a pretty strong core of solid posters.

In the old days, I would have said Lunchbox, just for that awesome photodump about the pirate, but now? Is it Inlander, for his classy wisdom? Is it Tyler, for the occasional solid gold Bon Mot? Is it Ruyi, for her brilliant young whippersnapper smarts? Is it Manda, for just being pretty all the dang time? Is it me, for fashion mastery and general rudeness? Is it Sam, for being basically the best dude? Or is it Tommy, who I am pretty sure killed jeph a while ago and is just running the board now.

What do you think?

The list is just some people who post! It is not all inclusive! If you have an idea for best poster, I would love to hear it! Include reasons! Hell, maybe we can make a poll later!

You make a lot of new threads and then double-post in them a lot.

Of course this is coming from me, who more often than not pops into a thread to make some lame comment that doesn't further the discussion. I will not be winning any awards from your thread.

Umm, suggestions to see if we can actually further this thread along... I'm going to follow Del_El's suggestion and nominate Paul for being most likeable. Like, he is a cool dude, and would vote for him. He always brightens up a thread with his constant cheery attitude and helpful, sincere advice.

My dad is a scientist who's hobby is proffessional wrestling. He drives to work in a monster truck. The police don't mind when he runs over cars in his monster truck because he is also a vigilante crime fighter, like batman, but not as gay.

I've never killed anyone. :(

The closest I came is someone sat too close to me one time so I bit him. I didn't have a problem with him sitting next to me, I just looked at him and felt that my teeth needed to be acquainted with his flesh.

King of the Forums

I think you'll find that the correct plural of "forum" is "fora".
Title: Re: Who is the best at QC.
Post by: Zingoleb on 04 May 2009, 02:13
fora |ˈfôrə|
plural form of forum

Hey, he's right!
Title: Re: Who is the best at QC.
Post by: pwhodges on 04 May 2009, 02:15
In Latin, yes; but we're not using Latin.  The English plural is forums, and this is by far the more widely used; it is also preferred by all serious commentators as far back as Fowler, at least.  To choose to use fora now is simply pretentious.

But fora is not actually wrong.  The case of viruses is more interesting - the Latin word virus has no plural.  The English plural is viruses, and any other usage (viri, virii, etc) has simply been made up by people inappropriately embarrassed to be thought ignorant.

How can you win at forums? Thats like implying you can win at life, its just silly!

Also I think the best at QC is the QC forum, its gained sentience and created most of the avatars as a way of expressing itself taking pictures from elsewhere on the internet and construcing personalities for them, who knows it may even be able to talk on Meebo and be slowly talking to all of you through the new posters, stearing your moves, guiding your posts etc.

Hmm.

Paul and Harry are consistent with quality and rarely do either make a "bad" post. However, the number of really memorable posts for either is also quite low for me.

Johnny has a lower post quality but has had some exceptionally fine moments. However, since expanding his role on SA, most of these moments have because quite masturbatory.

Speaking of masturbatory, James has one of the highest numbers of awesome posts, but this is often mired in a lot of meh posts.

I still rate Kieffer's attempts at new threads quite highly, but I am rather sure I still remain in the minority for this.

also duchess tapioca was so great, she hasn't posted in 2 years and I still think she is the best!

It is a secret thread, noone will tell!

A few months ago, a pelican told me why Chuck scowls so much!

This pelican has been Chuck's loyal guardian since the day he was born. Chuck was actually delivered by a pelican, under a parsley plant. It was the stork's day off, storks are rather lazy, but very photogenic. The truth is that most children these days are delivered by pelicans, but that, my friends, is a story for another day.

We all know of Henry the bear, correct? The little knitted bear so dear to Chuck, lost to a cruel mistress and held hostage? This is the story of Henry. Henry was a very special bear, kitted in his threads were Chuck's patience, and stuffed in his tummy was his happiness and love, for his fairy god auntie did not trust the young boy's human heart with such precious things. The two were bound and were together always, boy and bear, until one dark morning.

It was a decade ago, in the calm after a fierce grey storm. Chuck was just a young lad, working on a sailing ship bound for the Baltic Sea. It was his job to sit at the crow's nest and watch for giant sea monsters that might steal the crew's limes and give them scurvy. One morning as he swept the waters with his telescope, he saw something much more terrible than a sea monster. It was a gorgeous lady with a fishy tail perched atop an atoll! She sang pretty songs and had shiny hair without many barnacles in it. Chuck's young heart thumped at the sight of her and he was so enchanted by her lovely songs as to put on his flippers and jump from his perch to swim to her. She did pretty cool Simon and Garfunkle covers. Foolish and young as he was, he put up no resistance as there were many kisses. The temptress then whispered sweetly to his willing ears, "Bring me your bear! Return at twilight young boy-ling," before she pushed him gurgling back in to the waves.

That night, he returned with what she asked, but in the moonlight he could see what he did not before. Her ears were pretty big and had a lot of wax in them. Also he had sharp pointy teeth. It was too late to turn back now though, his limbs were tired from swimming and his shorts felt all salty. Chuck relinquished the bear to the fishy lady. She cackled, "Cackle cackle cackle! Now I am complete!" Cause every crusty seaman knows that mermaids cannot love and are pretty darn impatient, which is why they aren't so great for long term relationships. She hugged the bear to her fishy breasts.

But alas, the fish lady was pretty old, and the cackling gave her a heart attack. She stuck out her tongue and died, making kind of a  "Hack hack... bleeeeerg" sound. Her efforts were in vain, and she would never love. At least Chuck could have his bear back though! He reached gingerly for the knitted paw.

"Not so fast!" honked a nearby gull. "You cannot, will not have that bear! You gave it to me and I shall have it. Mine!" said she. It turns out the mermaid believed in Hinduism and was reincarnated. The gull snatched the bear and took it to the tallest mountain on the atoll to keep forever.

Some say he could just go get it back, but Chuck really didn't have the right shoes for that sort of thing, so it sits there to this day, getting crapped on my birds a lot, and kinda moldy. Fortunately, as the bear desegregates, his love, patience and happiness are slowly returned to him, and sometimes when he plays frisbee, Chuck can smile again.

That is all the pelican told me.

Also, stop it with the nostalgia! I am still unclear on who the best boarder is. If there isn't some kind of consensus, it will have to be determined by supervisory decree, and none of you want that.

The question is inherently flawed.  It's like asking "who is the best at running?"  Define best.  Best speed?  Best technique?  Running how?  Fast?  For a long time?  I mean, the answer for any of that will probably always be "Kenyans", but I don't think there is a similar clear-cut winner here.

Perhaps, est, the question should instead be phrased "Which QC forumite is most likely to post like the awesomest motherfucker to avoid BEING EATEN BY A GODDAMNED LION!!"

Clearly Ben is not the best.

Will, end your questions with question marks, or plebeian boarders not unlike myself will get mildly confused, possibly frustrated.

Like, does it not bother anyone else when the wrong punctuation utterly changes the intended meaning of a sentence? It reminds me of a time in one of my international conflict classes. The time was about 3 hours ago, but it was still a time that was important. I mean, can we really disregard recollections if they are too current? Is that some how time-spacist? Can one be time-spacist? I don't know. But anyhow, we were discussing Rwanda, Hutus, Tutsis, genocide and all that jazz. All very complicated and such. Now the claim was made with a great level of certainty that the Belgians and French were responsible for the whole tiff, because they shot down a plane with the president on it or some other inconvenient and rather unsavory thing. This invariably resulted in debate on whether Belgium and France had ever had diplomatic summits in regards to which nations were allowed to claim naming privileges to various pastries and breakfast goods. Now, it is most likely that Belgium decided upon its own waffle naming in order to assert its position amongst the collective of baked good states in western Europe. However, it should be noted that Belgian waffles cannot be purchased in many American restaurant and fast food chains. Needless to say, after class the obvious trip was to Dunkin Donuts to nominally investigate the origins of the baked goods on the menu, but more practically to indulge in some coffee consumption. I ordered a medium black coffee, and my compatriot, a large french vanilla, 2 Splendas. The woman at the register stated "$2.13 together." I handed her a $5 bill and waited for change. She stared at me for about 45 seconds before I realized that "together" was not a statement of price, but a question added on with no affectation in voice. After sorting out the details, we paid the full price for the drinks and went on our way.

The point being, you are better off brewing your own coffee at home, because $2.13 for a rather small medium is too much.

Tyler - are you referring to my overall post, or the question contained in quotes? (Please note the question mark at the end of the preceding sentence, love, and be not confused.)

If you are referring to the in-quotes question proposed as an alternative to the original question "Who is the best at QC?" (please note the lack of a question mark from the original poster, who is apparently a bad, bad wo/man/being of indeterminate gender) then yes, the failure is mine, and great indeed. The excitement manifesting itself in my consciousness when I considered the frantic nature of such a poster driven to avoid BEING EATEN BY A GODDAMNED LION was unable to be contained, and I allowed my base desires for exclamation marks to overrule my normally flawless execution of grammar and syntax as it pertains to the vernacular specific to this community. I humbly apologize (apologise, to those of you 'across the pond (or would it be ponde?)) for any confusion and hurt I may have caused you.

However, if you are referring to entirety of my previous post, then your mistake is assuming that I meant to ask a question. While it was phrased in a casual, suggestive manner, I was in fact declaring my proposition to be clearly superior, thus rendering the use of a question mark not only impertinent, but damaging to my overall cause.

I'm not one to knock cider, never having tried a "real" cider in my (considerably short) time.  But I also don't like getting into discussions about preferred beers, because I like really lowbrow (read: what people call "shitty") beers, and not even like natty or keystone light.  People talk shit about it a lot, but Budweiser is really good to me!  Ales in general (or at least the ones I've had) just don't taste good, namely the IPA's I've had.

But the most recent experince with anything cider-related was when we were drinking apple cider at a friend's house; he was making plain, non-alcoholic apple cider on the stove.  We poured a doubleshot of half Tuaca and half Goldschlager into a mug, poured cider overtop, stirred, and drank.  The last sip of the cup was straight Tuaca/Goldschlager and tasted like ass.

Actually, I misread PantsFTW's post and didn't notice that that it was referencing a comment about me since I haven't really read the whole page. I was simply trying to make a (probably misguided and feeble) defense of the Discuss! boards and myself in general, really. Now that I've scrolled up a li'l bit I feel kind of silly for having said anything at all, particularly since it seems really self-aggrandizing in context.

Also, the idea that some of boarding has been strong gives me warm fuzzies, so thanks!
