That is to say, music! A whole 12 songs made by yours truly.
Anyway, it's just me, my MIDI keyboard, and various created synthesizers in Reason... I have computerized orchestra glittering over some tracks, and they're not as pretty as if I'd gotten actual violinists and shit to play on 'em, but you know. Do what you can with what you got. There's a lot of 8bit influence, some electro, some ambient, and orchestral, all muddled up into one big ball of fun. It's my first real "themed" album.... and I'd like feedback! Whether it's on the art, the music, or my personality, snarky comments, criticism, and enraged rantings are welcome.
All I ask is that you give it a listen.

Listening... bbiab with reaction...
Ha, very cool, thanks for the trip back to the 80s. And I really mean that. :-)
The 8-bit influences stuff could easily have been ambience music for any of those old games, and was quite catchy.
The rest worked, too. Enough layers to pick up new elements if I concentrated, but grooving along nicely if I was busy with other stuff (I've been playing poker with it in the background).
Not a whole lot to say beyond that. Good work, and definitely post more when you have it.

Downloadin' now
Edit: This is pretty sweet so far. I'm on the 3rd song.
-
I liked it quite a bit (despite my preference for the swoopy kind of synths). Well done.
-
Thanks for the kind words! Glad some people like it at least.
Didn't expect the 80s comment (not that it's a bad thing, I rather appreciate it), but upon further listening I kind of see what you're getting at.
Don't know when I'll have more though... This album's basically been *in progress* since January. I'm really wary about sharing demos and stuff, I like everything to be polished and shiny before anyone sees / hears it.
There's always my old EP (http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/45684), if you're into a straight-up 8bit venture... finished this one in May.

I keep expecting to hear the dude from the Postal Service singing over this...I mean that as a compliment, so please don't take offense.
This kind of music isn't really my thing, so I don't know how to really critique it constructively. I'll just say that it sounds pleasant to my ears, and apparently takes a great deal of time and talent to make.
-
I'm really enjoying this. It puts a smile on my face. Thank you, Nicholas.
-
Very fun music, put me in a good mood. Thanks for this.
-
i can dig it
-
This is really cool, just finished listening through the first time and really enjoyed every track. Thanks!
'Constellations' reminds me a lot of slagsmålsklubben, which is a good thing.
-
I really, really, really wish you had just made up that word on the spot.
-
We have the funniest words.
-
Bullllbousss....bouffannnnnt
-
Thanks for all the positive vibes, guys. I really appreciate it. :-)

I like it! I also sent you a friend request!

Gabardine.

This is pretty awesome! Did you record everything in .mp3?
PS: Speaking of Slagsmålsklubben, anyone know where I can buy all three of their LPs? Amazon only has 2 and I'll be damned if any of my local record shops can import them.
-
Everything was recorded as .wav files actually, and then I converted them later to .mp3.
-
Do you still have the .WAVs lying around? I'm a bit-rate whore.
-
I scrapped 'em, sadly. I could re-export them but that takes soooo much effort, :P
-
I must say, this is pretty solid. It sounds type of genre 8-Bit but I get this strange feeling when i listen to it, as if there is a whole other genre incorporated into it. :-D
Thank you for the music.
-
Wow, I don't usually listen to much music like this, but I gotta say, this is REALLY good.

-ingracious bump of my own thread-
OK so a few weeks ago I was struck by a huge wave of inspiration and cranked out like 5 whole songs I'm not entirely ashamed of, not to mention several that I am (very). Not all of them are polished enough yet to warrant me throwing them into something resembling an album / EP, but I do have a demo single that I think turned out pretty good.
It combines phat beatz with swirling synths and bangin' piano. I mean I think this is a pretty adequate description but I could just be shooting myself in the foot here.
Lada Laika - Sunbeams
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/phyrexianmeatdog/sunshineclean-1.jpg)
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?nzmz4mzmtzy
There are two mixes of it included in the zip, the first is the original (which has a slower intro) and the second is a more dance-y one. I honestly cannot decide which one I enjoy better so I included them both.
Neither of these have been fully mastered (well kind of... but not really) so they might sound a little rough around the edges but eh.
Hope you enjoy it!

You whore
(downloading it now)

OK, I know I've just stumbled, late and drunk, into this party, but Dream Machine is really good! I'll have to look up some of the technical terms (8-bit?), but I'm so impressed.
-
-update-
the new ep is almost done. it draws a lot more on the orchestral elements that were hinted at across various parts of Dream Machine, although I've yet to find anyone who can play these instruments so you'll have to deal with my shitty computer-generated strings for now.
right now it looks to be 8 songs long, including sunbeams and the remix.
should be up soon, maybe next week.
thanks for listening, to whoever bothers!

Super Duper Sweet

Just thought I'd pop in to say I am enjoying the Sunbeam tracks. Still need to give Dream Machines a listen, but I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome if these two are any indicator.

Downloading this right now, but I'll listen to it tomorrow.

Neither do I, and it keeps fucking me over.
I really look forward to these new ones

(bump)
So I downloaded an NES audio emulator template for Reason 4. It is pretty rad, just 3 subtractors, thor, and NN19 (with the triangle square wave sample) and it makes me feel all old school n shit \m/
Anyway, my first demo song is streaming here. (http://8bitcollective.com/music/ladalaika/Reason+4%3A+NES+Demo+1/) You can download it too if that suits your fancy.
-
shit yeah make more nintendo music please
-
do it do it that was really good

Holy shit

Glad you guys like it, because I am pretty much 116% sure that this is the musical direction in which I'm heading. I'm contemplating doing an entire EP or something based in the NES template, but whether that ends up being simply a musical exercise or a bona fide collection of decent material remains to be seen. I guess we'll see!

(bumpity bump bump)
new demo (a cover):
what is happening oh god (http://8bitcollective.com/music/ladalaika/Empire+%28demo%29+%28cover%29/)
it's been fucked with in pro tools since, and the bass is a lot filthier and awesome now, but i thought you guys might like to hear the first
i kind of like it. i hope you do too!
p.s. since i am in like a real band now this might become a rap song. you won't understand how hilarious that is until you download and listen to it. also, props to anyone who recognizes the tune before the melody kicks in.
edit: streaming link above, download link there or here (http://www.mediaf!re.com/?5uwitinrd0g)
-
It put a smile on my face.
would love to hear the 'filthier' version.

mastered version streaming on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mercer-Mercer/113043168737538) and myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mercermercermusic).
we are going to open every goddamn one of our live shows with this track
-
That intro is really mean. I kind of wish it went on for a bit longer.
-
we might stretch it out a bit live but honestly it's pretty much a novelty song and if it went any longer it'd probably get a little annoying. besides, leave 'em wanting more, right? ...right?
