...cock-of-the-rock...
Just when you thought a bird couldn't look any more awesome you hear its name.
I suggest everyone starts using cock-of-the-rock as a euphemism swear from now on!
Holy cock-of-the-rock, Batman!

Seriously though, chickens would make scary as fuck giant birds. Look at that thing, I swear it would kill a raptor 1 on 1.
-
Samuel Jackson would co-star in the Big Cock vs Raptor movie
-
Do not doubt my knowledge of dinosaurs. This isn't even about that. This is about how fuck scary that chicken looks. I mean, its fierce!
-
i also read a while back about how some theorists are staring to think due to bone structure etc that some raptors didn't actually run but instead hopped like kangaroos.
it seems sort of cute and endearing until you really sit down and imagine one of those things leaping toward at you at about 40 mph, at which point it suddenly goes from funny to pretty much the worst fucking thing imaginable.
-

There actually was a giant dinosaur that was remarkably similar to a chicken, but was the size of a tyrannosaurus (and possibly bigger). It is considered extremely likely to have feathers. It was one of the largest meat eating dinosaurs ever discovered.

A lot of birds hop when they're not flying. Like sparrows. So maybe raptors were like sparrows. Giant killer sparrows.

Names or it never happened

pretty sure he's talking about gigantoraptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigantoraptor).
-
I was not at all surprised to see tania having the last post in a thread called boobies.
-
Because she is such a raging lesbian.
-
Is there any other type?
-
A lipstick lesbian, who is probably not raging.
I was gonna type "A feminist, oh wait that is a raging lesbian" but that is in poor taste and it isn't even funny.
-
Yeah that post was kinda facetious.
I know some perfectly tolerable lesbians.
-
the lesbians i lived with last year were mostly the laid back kind who instead of getting embarrassed or flustered whenever i accidentally found their sex toys simply pointed and laughed and said "ha ha, tania, i made you look at my dildos".
in hindsight i think i was actually more of a stereotypical raging lesbian than them in just about every way except for the fact that they all loved the l-word. like really loved the l-word. i don't get it. the l-word is a really bad show! it's really dumb! i know it's about these really hot women who all make out with each other and have wild and crazy sex all the time but... uh... aside from... the... wait what was i talking about.
-
And the dinosaur only ate his fingers?

That birdosaur's goofy lookin'. I wouldn't be scared of it.

Juat sayin, T-Rex is twice as big, and Chicken is twice as fierce.
-
That birdosaur's goofy lookin'. I wouldn't be scared of it.
But he's 15 feet tall!
!!!
...
And he plays SNES, apparently.
Hell I would game with him, as long as he doesn't molt on my couch.
-
But he's 15 feet tall!
Your strange units of measurement make no sense to me, 19th Century man.
-
1 foot = 30cm roughly, so 15 feet is roughly 4.5 metres.
-
abluhbuhbluh 4 meters?
durn tall.
/hillbilly
edit: damn off by .5 meters.
-
Dashed irritating American, it's metres, not meters. A meter is something you put money in when you park :-P
/Brit
(Although admittedly both spellings are acceptable blah blah etc)

Your silly spelling aside, I really do despise the fact that I live in one of the 3 countries in the world that hasn't converted to metric yet.
then again we have these people (http://thinkprogress.org/2009/10/07/derbyshire-women-vote/) so it's not like it's a surprise
-
I'm somewhat scared by some of the really big birds which still exist.
What worries me most about birds is the fact that they're filthy, filthy animals. A bird's body is a fantastic habitat if you're a parasitic invertebrate.
Incidentally, I've been bitten by a bird. One of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Whistler) little beauties, as a matter of fact. It wasn't too bad. Though having a bird cling to you with its claws isn't so pleasant.

RHEA
(http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2618/p8300005.jpg)
That's the field behind my house. Unfortunately, all the birds died due to the incompetence of the people who owned them. They stole some keys from my brother once, thankfully we got them back. These people also own alpaca (like llama but small) and a couple of horses that they don't look after very well.
-
That reminds me, it's coming up to magpie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_magpie) swooping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_magpie#Swooping) season. Oh, goody!
Hot bird tip: birds are particular sensitive to the red end of the colour spectrum, so if you're worried about being a potential target for a bird attack, try to avoid wearing red.

So... Buy more red clothes and a shotgun?
And he plays SNES, apparently.
It's totally original Nintendo.
Finally, it's not my fault if you guys are following the crowd as far as measurement systems go. The US is kickin' it old-school.
-
You know, schools in the olden days were really shit.

Basically, I would not like to be in a fight with a buzzard because I would lose.
Two birthdays ago my girl took me to a falconer where we got to meet and greet birds of prey.
trust me ... there is nothing like having a hawk, buzzard or owl perched upon your arm looking at you, considering whether you are lunch or merely uninteresting.
I'd suggest that you try this. It's ... special.
-
That sounds a lot like having a cat on your lap.
Tommy, you like cats.
-
Eyes painted on hats or helmets will deter attacks on pedestrians
Harry, I just had the best mental image of you walking around wearing a Legionnaire hat with eyes painted on the back of your head.

Some pictures of that day.

Domesticated cats, yeah.
Wild cats could eat me though.
I think you give domesticated cats entirely too much credit.

unfortunately, being liked by giant birds is only moderately better (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T1vfsHYiKY) than being hated by them.
-
pretty sure he's talking about gigantoraptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigantoraptor).
I love how the article says "the diet of this animal is a mystery." Fucking hell isn't it obvious? it ate cavemen
-
also if you think birds of prey now are scary be glad you never had to fight this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentavis) -
(http://img.sci-lib.com/2009/06/19/b_278_1.jpg)
When hunting actively, A. magnificens would probably have swooped from high above onto their prey, which they usually would have been able to grab, kill, and swallow without landing. Skull structure suggests that it ate most of its prey whole rather than tearing off pieces of flesh.
-

That is fantastic.

The ancients would call that a Roc

Whatever the fuck this bird is, I bet it would taste awesome barbecued.

Just hold something over your head. Birds aren't smart creatures, and this trick will get you past plovers (masked lapwings), magpies, or any other airborne assailant with ease.

Cassowaries are pretty scary, in that they can disembowel you with a kick.
Not to mention they're batshit insane.
