Hi folks
QC is plastered with ads for Evony at the moment, a webgame with a VERY bad reputation in some quarters, see

Among many others.
Basically they steal content from other sources, rip of Civ like mad, use misleading ads, spam blogs and are alleged to be a bunch of MMORPG Gold farmers.
I just thought it might be worth mentioning, I kinds think it lowers the tone somewhat, though I am sure Jeph 'n Co didn't know about this. If it were my site I would probably get my ad-provider to stop posting their ads, though of course ads pay for QC among other things so I am not wanting to be over-judgemental.
Thoughts?

Why do you hate Jeph Jacques and his family?
Jeph has the ads there to generate revenue, but can you imagine any store in the real world accepting money from strangers so they could shove posters in customer faces? It's an intrusive and annoying practice, and I think it's a little unfair to take the moral high ground on people who find it annoying? If I want to support Jeph, I'll buy a t-shirt.
Not only that, Jeph gets money whether or not someone has adblock.

Now, why is the metaphor to shoving them in customer faces rather than having them on the walls? There are ads in stores. On shopping carts, for instance. One gas station I go to has a poster for a phone card company in the restroom.

I've seen a few evony ads. As far as I can tell, it's a game about boobs.

I played Evony for a while last spring (back when it was called Civony) and I can confirm that it is a vile, awful game with little to no redeeming value.
Also, aside from the ads, there are no tits anywhere in the game.

I think if Evony ads were to appear on Jeph's site it would not be his, or even necessarily his advertiser's fault. According to the great manual of Wikipedia, they frequently use different urls to bypass normal website checks. That is one of the reasons why it is hard to stop.

Evony = Tribal Wars gameplay + stolen Age of Empires II graphics + Engrish + plagiarized Civ III and IV descriptions.
Oh, and it costs money to chat, get items more easily, etc. That and they're handing out trojans and spamming the internets as marketing ploys.

Many people are stupid. Turns out that stupid is roughly equivalent to having insufficient main ram, or too much of it dedicated to trivial processes like "where are my keys?" "What's my password again?" "Is it in then out, or out then in?" And so on... Accordingly they are entirely unable to dedicate enough memory to individually hating all the people they want to hate and have to group them to save resources.

I'd forgotten all about it and just dressed normal - long black skirt, black Birkenstocks, flowy black peasant top. No makeup, loose hair.

I think you're confusing patriotism with nationalism, and maybe xenophobia. A lot of people do.
Patriotism is the willingness to give of yourself for a greater cause, that of your community (or country).
Nationalism is a distinct favoring of your nation over others - remember, Nazi is short for Nazionalist, the nationalist party.
Xenophobia is a fear of "others", mainly foreigners. It is closely related to nationalism.
Patriotism does not automatically imply either of the others, but a lot of people seem to think that they're all related. It is possible to support your country without trashing others!

Just want to say i saw the evony games first advertised on QC and liked the screenshots. I love Civ type games. I started playing the game and got seriously addicted. I droped $105 on it total. i started playing WoW again to get myself off it.

Not the way most americans think. considering the history of the use of patriotism, I cannot help to think that the spirit of the meaning has changed from it's textbook definition
I unno it just seems an excuse to make you feel superior than everyone else. (so maybe many people are confusing it with nationalism)
I personally am all for abolishing nationalistic borders. Yes a world order. Within the industrial world, they end up just, as I said, an excuse to feel superior. Also you cannot fight over resources you already possess.
Of course I am being idealistic (and naive in all likelihood). Until we get the religions living in peace (aughabhaadjfohowe) there will be fighting. And people will not accept any world order easily. And for quite some time they will still feel like the remnants of their country is better then the remnants of some other country.
But fuck nations. I don't give a shit where you're from. Just play nice

Humanity does take the path of least resistance. There's a difference between making a generalization based on little or no evidence, and making one based on how you see the entire human race act. It's like calling the human race greedy. Overall we are. If we weren't a lot of the problems we've had wouldn't of happened at all.

I see dead people. Well, not actually dead as such, because they're breathing, and sometimes I catch them eating stuff that's clearly not brains, and sucking up lattes instead of blood. They're figuratively dead. Which doesn't mean they're not rather lively, especially after consuming enough joe. Not Joe as in a person named "Joe," of course, or even slang for a nameless person, but coffee. And not someone named "coffee,' either, although such persons are know to exist, and perhaps should be consumed.
Dehydration combined with a thread that mentions "spam tits" and "discreet breasts" and features Evel Knievel quote tunnels can cause one to write the sort of thing above. Fear it.

You always see the downside. If Evel had gone out by strapping himself to a retrofitted MX missile and actually making it across the freaking Grand Canyon, you'd say it didn't count because he probably died in flight.
