Just because I can.
Certainly a good enough reason.
Party Aftermath: The Awakening
Plot Summary: Certain people wake up with certain other people after the party is over.
This is highly surprising to everyone.

Thank heavens! i thought we'd never get out of last week's thread...
That thing was a veritable quagmire of fail, for the most part.
Glad to be starting a new week.

I agree now for some good ole' mayhem.

Thank heavens! i thought we'd never get out of last week's thread...
That's the best thing about the WCT. A new one is only a few days away.

ugh, I hope Jeph gets off the subect of gay "marriage" soon. Even sinners have their limits of how much perversion they're willing to tolerate, so Jeph should do what will keep his readerbase. Maybe that will him to God, but I won't count on it.
-
I jinxed yah.
-
I voted through the looking glass ... just 'cause it's been a while since we saw Winslow fall for something Pintsize told him.
-
I jinxed yah.
Nooooooo!!!
Anyone else notice that Its spelling has started degrading?

the occasional typo is nothing to get excited about.
Also, you're calling me it? You're the one unwilling to accept the gender you were born with! It is said that everyone has a God-shaped hole in their hearts, maybe if you accepted Him you wouldn't need antidepressants or your dick cut off. I'll make you a deal: read the entire new testament (it's only 122 pages. also, no new-age feel-good bibles like the Good News (per)Version or the NIV), and if you aren't a changed person by the end, I will retract my presence from this forum for good.

Good I just did and guess what I didn't change a dot. Now go away.

No.
Just leave.
I don't care what you say or think or do; I know who and what I am, and I know that if there is a God worth worshiping, S/He doesn't give a crap about how I was born, because S/He would be responsible for it. No, I'm not blaming God (If S/He even exists) for how I am; I'm just saying that S/He wouldn't begrudge me to live.
So you think that my identity is an under-thought choice made in the absence of God?
I've read the new testament. Put your religious knowledge-cock back in your pants, I'm not going to sit here and compare sizes with you.
Your claim that you've read "the entire" New Testament is Something You Can't Prove, and Something I Can't Disprove.
Stop trying to "convert us". We are who we are who we are. No amount of your "good intentions" will change that.
Oh hey, guess what the road to Hell is paved with? Good Intentions.
Leave. Now. You are not wanted, religious fanatic, or troll. Or both. Whatever you are.
EDIT: You're getting more vulgar in your speech, which means you're getting more frustrated.
If you're actually serious about anything you say.
If you're a troll, I'm...

I though you were against picking and choosing parts of the bible?
-
To get back on topic that would be a good one, a pintsize winslow arc. Haven't had one of those in awhile.
-
The aftermath of the destruction :-D
Of course, i am speaking of both the comic and killbots inane psudo-christian ramblings (my dad is a chatholic and a republican, but i know for a fact that even he would be offended by Killbot).
So no here i an the darkness of my eterna... HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!! I COULDNT DO IT!
But yeah, me + dark room + waiting for nu comic.

that would be nice
although I generally feel bad for winslow in those situations

I knew if I didn't keep trying to post every WCT, someone would abandon the year.

Is there anything new to be done in Pintsize/Winslow stories?
Just hit me that if Winslow can run Parallels, he could start a virtual machine and run a copy of Pintsize.
Winslow and Momo-tan might compare notes on being good companions for humans with problems. Imagine them kvetching about their owners at the AnthroPC equivalent of a bar.

Jeph,
You da MAN!!!!
-
As for a guess on what this week will entail, an aftermath setup is possible but that feels relatively unlikely unless Jeph plans to give a lot less time and focus on Martens father than was given his mother. That being said, I can imagine a post-celebration thread that leads to something akin to a noodle incident.
-
EEEEEEEEPIIIIIIIIC COMIC
I am disappointed by the choice of Karaoke though
-
Howdy, Wil.
-
Howdy, Wil.
that poor bastard
-
It was a treat to see Faye so happy, if only for two panels. It's such a contrast that it reminds you how unusual that is.
-
Well, I got a mix of the celebration and the aftermath. Not terribly unexpected.
What's up this week? The story of Pintsize and Winslow's adventures through the looking glass. 4 (20%)
The Celebration 6 (30%)
The aftermath of the celebration 6 (30%)
Something weird with Angus and Marigold 3 (15%)
None of the above. 1 (5%)

Hope this was a morning off for Dora and Faye at CoD.

How can you POSSIBLY be disappointed over Wanted Dead Or Alive? The most awesome Bon Jovi song ever!
-
I'm more of George Thorogood fan myself, but as Bon Jovi goes that one's all right. If say it had been "Walking on Sunshine" by the Bangles I might have been more horrified.

dude, first things first..
Those who call themselves Christian, and then go out and preach hate, blow up abortion clinics, or harm homosexuals or advocate such hatred are not Christian at all. We are to love our neighbors, even if they are sinners, for are we not also sinners? I don't like to use a worn out cliché, but "Hate the sin, love the sinner" is very applicable.
The often misused quotation "Judge not lest ye be judged" is also applicable here. Our job, as believers, is not to judge non-believers at all, or to point out any specific sins. Instead, it is to present the good news to non-believers, and that includes the fact that all are sinners, even us, though we have found forgiveness in Christ. However, that isn't what "judgment" is. Jesus was referring to hypocrisy in that verse, saying it is wrong to judge someone if we ourselves are guilty of the same, or worse sins. You've all heard what he was talking about, you can't see clearly to get the speck out of your neighbors eye, if you have an entire beam in yours!
second.. and im saying this out of love... GO FUCK YOURSELF! SERIOUSLY! ARGH!
..now back to lurking. :|
-
Can we please keep last weeks drama in last week? That thead has been locked for a reason you know.
What is it with Mardora's dads that they both have grabbed Faye?
-
mardora? is this some attempt to tar Marty and Dora with the same brush as used on the likes of Brangalina? If so... shame shame shame!
Oh god, poor hanners... she cant be happy with a bruise... I hate them thoughly and I'm only borderline OCD.
-
very sorry.. i was out of town this week so i was out of the loop for most of it... :|
i love that Dora's throwing up the horns! \m/
i think her hair is finally starting to grow on me. :-)
-
It's an excellent rendering of a bruise - and in a sick and twisted way it should take a week or so to turn a lovely shade of green. Which in comic terms should be about three years of comics...
-
That damned song is one of those where, should anyone ever attempt it on kareoke night, you are legal able to kill the "singer".
OK, we know Penelope was too much involved with a book to go out with the gang (don't think she ever has) but what about Marigold?
Also no one puked, at least as far as we know.
-
Hanners looks quite puke-y in the third panel.
-
What's up with Faye drinking some sort of umbrella drink?
On the other hand, after the last panel nothing else matters. FayeBooBs!!
-
Thank heavens! i thought we'd never get out of last week's thread...
I stopped following last week's thread after the second page. Sadly the weirdness seems to have bled into this week too. Stuff like that makes me afraid of Americans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slKNd22GGaQ)...
Anyway... Kudos to Jeph for today's very intricate comic. Great poses, great facial expressions, cheesy ballards... and air-guitar. But Faye's apparently traded in her Midnight Hobo for... a drink with an umbrella? I'm never going into therapy.
-
On a at-best-semirelated note, Angus' face in panel 2 is pure win.
-
Jeph's doing so much better with the facial expressions lately (and in particular this strip) that I'm prompted to ask a question about Henry. Does anyone else think he looks as though he's not enjoying the party nearly as much as the rest of them? He looks a bit... bemused.
Also: I miss Usenet. You could killfile idiots on Usenet. Doesn't appear to be a way to killfile idiots on forums. :-(
-
I love how utterly confounded Wil looked! lol
*turns on iTunes just to listen to Wanted Dead or Alive ... and maybe Blaze of Glory*
-
I daresay this single strip contains the series' best artwork to date. Yay or nay?
-
I'm just glad to see that Wil has kept his job thus far. I know we hadn't heard different, but I was afraid the stress of a real job may be too much for him. Yea for gainful employment! I'm sure Penny is pleased.
Also, lhasafi, I don't see Angus anywhere in this comic. Do you mean Wil? Or do I need to go scrub the night goobers off my contacts?
-

He might be preoccupied with fears of puke.
-

Angus' face? That's Wil, Penne-lope's pet ne'er-do-well. Also, doesn't he sort of always look like that?

He might be preoccupied with fears of puke.
Possibly he's also much older than the rest of the 'gang' and a club owner himself and therefore knows better than to get wasted. Plus I imagine he still thinks of Marten as his little boy and is trying to watch out for him out of the corner of one eye.
-
Heh looked like hanners was getting ready to puke in panel 3.
-
Panel 3: Henry, Faye, and Maurice's facial expressions absolutely cracked me up!
Also, Marten looking like he's about ready to fall over 'cause he's laughing so hard is really well done! Awesome job with the artwork!
-
I heartily approve of this comic. :-D
-

I think that's because he's a guy in his 50s or 60s hanging out with a bunch of 20-somethings.
-

In the first panel he looks like he's having a good a time as anyone. In the second panel he's got a "this is probably not a good idea" look going, possibly because of the ralphing to come. In the third panel, where he's smacking Faye in the ass, his face looks amused with a semi-smirk. I think he's having a good time.
-
I'm more of George Thorogood fan myself, but as Bon Jovi goes that one's all right. If say it had been "Walking on Sunshine" by the Bangles I might have been more horrified.
That's Katrina and the Waves, dude. Don't deprive a one-hit wonder of their one hit. (I suppose Bangles may have covered it).
Faye, when will the mindless punching stop?
-
I love Wil's "WTF" expression in pannel 2.
-
Love today's comic. It's such a good description of a drinking night, with little disconnected bits of memory from panels 123 and then an URGHHAAAH morning to follow.
-
How can you POSSIBLY be disappointed over Wanted Dead Or Alive? The most awesome Bon Jovi song ever!
And even if it wasn't, like the title said, it's required at every karaoke night.
See also: Don't Stop Believing.
EDIT: Didn't even see Wil until you guys mentioned it. Laughed so hard.
-
QC is still what I look forward to every day and especially on Monday's. Well done -- that out of the way.
I love wil's expression. Also Hanner's anguish "Why me?!" very well done.
-
I love Wil's "WTF" expression in pannel 2.
It's not so much a "WTF" expression as a stereotypical British butler's stoic "don't judge" expression. I think the Awful Revelation's boss was spot on when he hired Wil.
-
I interpreted it more as an "O...kaaaaay then" look, but I could be wrong.
-
If he looks bemused it's probably because (like me) he can't figure out how people can get THAT excited by Bon Jovi...
-
i think her hair is finally starting to grow on me. :-)
Now that's just weird. Is it, like, growing the same place on you that it is on Dora? Or is, for example, her landing strip growing out of your forearm and her leg hair growing on your chest?
Should probably see a doctor.
-

That's Katrina and the Waves, dude. (I suppose Bangles may have covered it).
Apparently not: the only reference I can find to any Bangles' cover of a KatW track is "Going Down to Liverpool". Which is on the Bangles CD that I own. Because I like them. Why are you looking at me like that?
I also like KatW's "Walking on Sunshine". It makes me feel happy.
Stop looking at me like that!
Don't deprive a one-hit wonder of their one hit.
"Love Shine a Light" was bigger in the UK, reaching #3 in the UK Singles Chart versus #8 for "Walking on Sunshine". But "Love Shine a Light" was also the UK's Eurovision Song Contest entry for 1997, so let us never speak of it again.
-

I hope you're not a programmer. You'd write some terrible IF/ELSE statements. ;)
-
Wow. It's obvious jeph had a lot of fun drawing this. The joy just bursts from the screen and oozes over everything nearby.
-
I love the time passage moments in media like this comic did. Seems that movies nowadays doesn't spend much time on it anymore.
I want to say that last week thread happened and the subject quickly turned to a political roundtable. I hope I didn't say to much to offend anyone, the exception being Killbot, and if I did I offer my sincerest apologies.
-
pancakes is always a good idea after a long night of drinking. Even shitty pancakes are good haha
-
First off, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to Katrina and the Waves for incorrectly attributing their song to another group. This is inexcusable and could have been avoided by Googling it.
On the other hand, do I really need to worry, or are they on this forum ready to smash me down?
Or does Jeph have both groups on his iPod?
-
As we can clearly see in this strip, gays are NOT homosexual (there's no such thing as homosexuals). They just want to corrupt whatever is good and pure. If this means coming on to a heterosexual woman, so be it. I've seen it happen numerous times. I LIVE IN SAN FRANSICKO. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE. So don't say I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, I do.
-
persistence is not always the best trait to have
-
pancakes is always a good idea after a long night of drinking. Even shitty pancakes are good haha
Not always. One time some friends and I got home after a night at the bar. We decided chocolate chip pancakes would be a great idea. Two of us throughly enjoy them. Brandon on the other hand still turns a little green when you mention pancakes.
-
So don't say I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, I do.
You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Wish I was 21 already, so I could legally go out with friends and drink my lovely Guinness.
I love the fact that Wil is still wearing his suit and hat to work.
-
...Is there some reason Killbot hasn't been banned? I figured Jeph's "fuck you" messages (and his locking last week's thread) signalled a ban, but...
Please, Jeph? For the Good of the Forum! :police:
-

That suit is why he got the job in the first place... Its also why i imagine him with an upper-class british accent...
What?
As for Killbot, i think Jeph is taking the Zap Branigan aproach and letting it reach it's pre-determined kill count it which time it will shut down and actually become rather plesent (hate to say it, but i doubt it will work).
I mean, it only takes on person (or robot) to hit the... what was that noise? OH GOD! SOMEONE HIT THE RESET BUTTON! >cue screams of the dying and maniacal robotic laughter<
I think my work here is done.

Or some such.
I do hope there are pancakes.
Chocolate chip pancakes.
Oh crap, nostalgia.
=/
-
Thank you Jeph!
I hereby take back all the stupid shit I said in my first post against locking threads and otherwise putting a stop to conversation. I was wrong and I'm sorry. Clearly, it's sometimes necessary to bust some heads. Especially on such an active board as this.
-
He's banned as of 30 seconds from now.
...and there was much rejoicing.
Yay!
-
Yep, that dude couldn't have read the new testament anyway because the only time Jesus addressed sex at all was to say unless you are without sin (and only his mom was without sin, according to some) then STFU.
Cool comic. Good to see a group of folks being happy because someone else is happy. I raise my cup to you, Mr. Jeph.
-
My only question is, what the heck is Faye drinking?! Our bourbon babe is having a BLUE CURACAO beverage? How very girly of her...
-
Star control 2 was awesome. wish I still had it.
-
Nos that I've looked at panel 2 again, I'm pretty sure that's Henry's 'here goes another pair of shoes' look (he's also the only one, judging by the bubbles, who isn't inebriated yet—fixed in the next panel, presumably by more booze). To me, Wil looks as though he's trying to determine who this older guy is who look so much like Marten. It's possible no one's been introduced yet.
Also, even with more proportional eyes, no character in the strip can emote 'distressed' like Hanners.
A final note: we know how Marten feels/felt on the subject (seems like he got a grab in somewhen), we've had opinions from Ellen (Steve's ex.), and now Henry succumbs. Is Faye's ass really that irresistibly smackable? Also, is 'smackable' a word?
-
'Smackable' is a delicious word.
Maybe Marten told his dad how Faye's butt jiggles (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=378) and wanted to try out for himself.

Iggerent little twat he was.
And I say that with the sincerest of respect
I think it was a delayed reaction punch Hanners - Unfortunately you were in the way.
Two words for ya;
Karaoke
Village People :D ;)
-
I keep hearing about how pancakes are great for a hangover, I could never figure out why though. Then again I know some guys who do brandy and raw egg so I guess it could be placebo.
-
chocolate chip pancakes are the cure for the hangover blues. Its not some sort of chemical medicine, it just tastes good and makes you feel better inside. Plus getting some food and water in you will help out tremendously if you have one of those "pray for death" type hangovers.
-
On the other hand, do I really need to worry, or are they on this forum ready to smash me down?
There's a reason guitars are called axes, you know. That helmet looks useful, though.
I keep going back to today's strip - the expressions are all so wonderful. Best work to date, I think.

Wow, Faye!
When was the last time she messed with anybody that spectacularly?!
-
Good to see the slack-jaw of shock and babbling incredulously runs in the family...
-
Man, His Dad is not ready for that kind of shit
then again, neither was Marten at first
-
How did Hannelore cope with getting sick? In the cold light of morning, the idea that her mouth had been full of barf should have curled her up into a tight little ball.
OK, I remember the last time Faye messed with someone like this. It was 928, and the target was Hanners. Even that wasn't as big a mindfuck as a pregnancy scare.
-
Still chuckling from today's comic (nothing like a good mindfuck)

Wonder how exactly does he KNOW, hmm? And what did he use for a comparison? O.o

Faye for the win! :D
That was awesome.
-
Okay, the "Dad 2: Dad Harder" line made me seriously laugh out loud! :-D
... [Killbot]'s banned as of 30 seconds from now.
Aww... I didn't have time to finish crafting a response to her anti-transgender post. :)
-
Ooh, Faye is very good at ze mindfuckery, now I wonder if Martens dad will get her back for it.
-
Oh hilarity! The last few comics have been ones of the best ever.
Nice to see Faye resort to mind games instead of punching, it's so much meaner. And Marten's dad had it coming

Henry has been the husband of Veronica, and they are still good friends (and had been before their marriage). Surely he has some training, even if, not being a natural, he can be slow on the uptake when caught off-guard.
-
haha Henry is most certainly the father of Marten, its just so adorable.
-
^agreed.

Hey guys, have you checked out the latest twitter updates?
BUTT STATUS: HUNGRY FOR COCK
I AM "TEH HAXOR"

Add me to the chorus of laughter over "Dad Harder".
And then comes Faye with the mind-screw.
-
You think both Henry and Marten would be used to it. As I recall, Veronica was rather fond of playing ze mindgames as well...
-
Gotta admire Maurice for pitching in! It takes a certain amount of savoir-faire to ride on the coattails of a prank like that...
-
Ahhh, good to see the old Faye is alive and sassing :D
I like the fact that Maurice joined in - shows he has class.
-
He has bad-ass sass class.
-
Funny, though the punchline was predictable. That's okay; I'm still floating on the awesomeness of yesterday's.
Also, I have Marigold's NERV bag, and that makes up for a lot. ;)
Also, is that a Totoro hat? :-)
-
I want to be Marigold's friend. I'll wear my Naruto sleeping cap. *see avi*
-
Oh... hurray for going to the Convention. Just returned myself from one of the biggest there is... "Spiel & Comic 09 @ Messe Essen". 245.000 european NERDS of all ages... 5000 new games presented... Yep. Greasy Nerds and people hitting themselves with foam swords (that i sold). Its just about that. And the old rule applies: The difference between a young and a grown up Nerd or Dork is the price of the things they play with.
PS: While we are talking about it: Yay for Granny Gaming Nerds. Is there anything cooler if you are a kid?

Am i the only one who's reminded of that scene from Blues Brothers? "We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigerettes, its dark, and were wearing sunglasses" - "Hit it!" (or some such, the sentiment is there, even if the literal acuracy isn't).

yes me and my gf love diren grey and i think she likes miavyi as well.

I love all the details. I saw Marigold's bag and went "I know that bag!" I don't know what it is, but I'm sure one of my friends has it, as it's stamped into my brain. I showed my best friend and she appreciated the Dir en grey shirt.

Just waiting for either of them to put on a Wardancer or Witch Elf costume....
-
Hm. Neither of them really has the build for it, though Hanners might definitely have the right attitude if you told her the swords were for killing messy things.
However, you wouldn't have much in the way of survivors from "The Great Con Massacre" if you did that and gave her actual weapons...

I had actually forgotten about smifcon. Lets hope Faye's in fine form for some mayhem. (Yes I do love mayhem)

My Totoro hoodie beats her hat any day (:

Photos. We need photos.

I prefer rattan to foam. But that's a whole different class of nrd.

Ahhh, C'mon!!!
It's an awesome bag of NERV from Neon Genesis Evangelion... Best anime ever. Period.
When I saw the bag I was like "Hehehe, Marigold doesn't watch only annoying Yaoi after all, good..."

Hanners' "Yay!" expression gets better looking every time!

So, is Hanners outside the apartment and talking to Marigold?
Or is she inside the apartment and talking to Marigold outside of the door to her room?
Either way, it's a cool robot picture on the wall.

Oh man, I am already feeling sorry for all of those poor nerds that will be slaughtered when they try to touch Hanners.

The most annoying person I've ever met also claims that it's the best anime ever. I'll check it out someday. But not today. Working on Kuroshitsuji.

I kind of worry for Hannelore, there is the stereotype of the sweaty unwashed nerd, combine that with the sheer crush of people and some of the more...bizarre anime and the poor lady might very well have a panic attack.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Should I have a look at that? I kinda like One Piece, but I got bored of everything else so far.
-
One. Piece.
<3
I should go get caught up on that.
-
I only really watched anime in high school and very little. usually it was cowboy bebop (greatest of them all!), DBZ (lay off me), tenchi muyo and universe (sorry not a fan of any of the others), any UC gundam (zeon and feddy wars), outlaw star, and some trigun.
-
Darker Than Black is brilliant as well.
-
NGE was great up until the end. . . .I didn't even notice the bag. I'm wearing a NGE shirt right now (although it's not the NERV one. I can't seem to find mine).
I wonder if the boffers were in an official event or just random conpeople being stupid.

In my opinion, Evangelion is not worth the time spent to watch it. It's regarded as a standard by many, but the characters are very shallow and the plot never seems to advance.
My entry into the world of anime was Ranma 1/2, which is campy and a bit sappy at times, but does contain a larger variety amongst the cast of characters. you'll find that the vast majority of anime series are fairly formulaic. This means that if you find a formula you really enjoy, there will always be something great for you to watch!
My favorites are [in no particular order]: Spirited Away, Time of EVE, the first 2 ep's of FLCL, the Read or Die movie, and Bamboo Blade. I really find that the first 1 - 3 episodes of a series are the best that series will have to offer; maybe that's because those are the beneficiary of all of the pitch work done to get the show sponsored and picked up by a network. After they are shown, the production houses rush to complete the projects ASAP.
There's a bunch of stuff on Netflix that rotates from month to month [watched all of Mezzo on there recently], and crunchyroll.com streams shows that aren't commercially available in the states [and therefore they are not breaking any copyright laws to do so]. Go there and watch Time of EVE now!
-
By the third panel, I saw the 4th panel coming.
And it was as good as expected. :)
Do I even see cargo pants? :-D
(Well, almost as good as expected. I mean, there's always that whole ROTJ Princess Leia outfit... )

meh the only anime to me worth watching is initial D..but to each his/her own
-
In my opinion, Evangelion is not worth the time spent to watch it. It's regarded as a standard by many, but the characters are very shallow and the plot never seems to advance.
Evangelion isn't highly regarded by many because of the story or character development. It's because it was something completely new at the time it was made: A deconstruction of the super robot anime.
In a traditional super robot anime when the teenage protagonist has a look of determination on his face and gets in his mecha, he's going to beat the bad guys. When the same happens in Evangelion, it means Shinji is just going to fail extra hard. In a traditional super robot anime, the female lead aggressively scorning the male lead means they are obviously going to get together at some point. (Which is REALLY stupid.) In Evangelion, it means Asuka has horrible psychological issues and the whole thing just ends in strangulation and bedside jerk-offs. It's like the anime is telling its nerdy fans: "If a woman who has done nothing but indicated she hates you, it doesn't mean she wants to make the babies with you, YOU IDIOT."
To me Shinji's creepy behavior towards Asuka is maybe one of the most authentic things in Evangelion, because the show treats him as a person. We're shown that sometimes we're not supposed to root for someone because everyone who is a jerk is making his life miserable. In narrative structures this is obviously a good guy, but in the real world people who get consistently shat on just become horrible people themselves. I always saw Shinji as growing up to be a serial killer, or maybe a child molester.
The super robot action in Evangelion? It's okay, but nothing special. The symbolism? Well it's just symbolism. It doesn't really even symbolize anything in particular. Hell, most of the time the symbolism just seems to symbolize symbolism itself, if that makes sense. The plot? Oh just get out. The plot is horrible. It's so intentionally vague and mired in obscure religious references that you might as well be watching the final episode of The Prisoner and pretending it makes sense.
Really at this point in time Evangelion has completely lost its relevance. When it was made it was amazing because it did nothing you expected and kicked the viewer in the fork at every given opportunity. It pretty much kicked off the super robot anime equivalent of the Dark Age Of Comics (which was the worst thing ever), where every cliche was turned on its head so often that things like "male lead believes in courage, so OF COURSE HE'LL FAIL HORRIBLY" became cliches themselves.
Fortunately GaoGaiGar, and later TTGL reconstructed the super robot anime, and those were pretty amusing shows. Gainax's TTGL was even kind of a subversion despite being a complete homage to the history of super robot shows. Suprisingly few people I know have liked the ending where Simon gives up spiral power, but really I think it was appropriate because the opening scene of the first episode was pretty obviously an alternate bad end where spiral power just makes people keep fighting until they grind the universe to dust, and is pretty much the sort of thing the anti-spirals were trying to stop.
I sure am glad I'm not a nerd at all
-
Should I have a look at that? I kinda like One Piece, but I got bored of everything else so far.
It's a love/hate anime with not a lot of feelings in between... I agree with the first half of Tunahead's comment about the anime but I don't agree at all with the second half but that's just me, as I see what his point is and understand it to the point of *almost* agree but I can't because it was one of the very first animes I saw so I kinda have feelings for it.
I always thought the super-robot action wasn't important at all, I just liked the plot and the way the character's personalities are shown to the viewer. And I really liked the movie as well. Kinda disturbing at some points.
I never really cared of Anime and mangas anyway... There are just 5 series I really like [probably less than that though] so I don't really have experiencie with others series and I don't really care about it.
Sorry if my english is quiet bad btw :-P
-
I tend to like Deathnote, I also liked Berserk(manga) pre-eclipse....post eclipse it's reaching a point I don't even want to pick it up because of how squicky/disturbing it's getting. Though the Berserk anime is pretty good.

...Is there some reason Killbot hasn't been banned? I figured Jeph's "fuck you" messages (and his locking last week's thread) signalled a ban, but...
Please, Jeph? For the Good of the Forum! :police:
Just wanted to confirm that he was a troll, which I'm 99% certain he is. I can't imagine anybody that rabidly ignorant and homophobic would actually read my comic. He's banned as of 30 seconds from now.
I dunno. I'm "homophobic" (the word itself is inappropriate for the situation, given the Greek meaning, but I'll ignore that for now)/relatively conservative and I've been reading since somewhere in the #700's. I just recognize that all people are pretty screwed up (myself being no exception, to be honest) and stoning "teh gayz" is as ridiculous an idea rounding up the adulterers.

New comic! I don't want to read Pintsize's work.

Hanners playing orks in 40k, heh, the irony would be so sweet it would replace sugar in my tea...

So, were volumes I - XVII also about tentacle monsters and schoolgirls?
My guess is that volumes I - IX were standard "tentacle monsters molesting schoolgirls" stuff, but in volume X, the schoolgirls gained spectacular powers and the tables were turned.
In volume XX, there will be a major plot twist, as both the monsters and the schoolgirls will be molested by giant robots... FROM SPACE!
-
All of whom will look like Giga-Pintsize?
(secret twist ending only available in the limited edition hardcover - one of them is Giga-Pintsize, back from the dead!)
Also, I am beginning to agree with some of the others here; Dora and Marted do look much more creepily adorable when they have the same plumage.
-
So, I was wrong - really disturbing thing was brought about in Marten's apartment...
What are we going to see at Nerdcon?
Hanners screaming "WAAAAAAAGH!" at the 40K or WFB tables 8 (17.8%)
Aubry running her LARP with the Nerdrotica girls 7 (15.6%)
Jeph judging the cosplayers 9 (20%)
Mike trying to be responsible 1 (2.2%)
Something so disturbing that we need to forget it.... 20 (44.4%)

I'm pretty sure that an awful lot of the hippishness around anime is to do with it being Jaanese, combined with an almost fetishistic desire for all things Japanese in sertain segments of western culture, specifically the video-game-playing segments, possibly because Japan is the Land of Video Games.
At least, that's what it was originally; memetic mutation has turned it into something else; a new, independent, species of nerdery.
Also, the bit about godzilla is possibly terribly ironic, depending.
-

I have no interest in hentai and am continually caught off guard by the Japanese capacity for perversion.

First off, learn some basic terms. The standard romanization is spelled anime, not animae (I'm assuming that this wasn't a mistake, as you did it in the poll as well). Hentai is not on par with anime. It's a pornographic subset.
Second: Dear lord, what have you been watching? Granted, a lot of standard tropes are thrown around in a number of series, but so far as I can tell, there's some good and original stuff out there, just like any other group of entertainment products. I understand being unimpressed by the artwork, I guess. My own experience is mostly that I'm impressed when people do novel things with the animation. Case in point: Paranoia Agent has a main character that's a policeman. He's tired by the odd case that he's working on and wishes for a simpler time, when policework consisted of chasing robbers and such. This eventually develops into him being transported into a world that resembles his wish, but every object other than him is rendered essentially as two-dimensional wooden boards.
Also, on the topic of the same anime: I have yet to see a scene that has the main characters of the episode chasing a serial killer, begging him/it to kill them. (This is actually more interesting and better developed than it sounds).
-
I couldn't get into Anime due to it wasn't readily available when I was growing up. Most of my friends and I were tech geeks.
-
Fixed my spelling mistakes. And if my ignorance of terms used in a form of entertainment that I generally find unappealing/uninteresting is incorrect educate me in a manner that is a wee bit more respectful - you don't come accross badly that way.
-
Shankmaster: In Syrup's defense, lots of dudes use girls in their avvies. It's the collective male unconscious desire to be cute and perky... and play with dolls.
Incidentally, your avvie is cute and perky. The hat makes me wonder what you would look like in a full and proper sailor fuku.
My taste in Japanese manga/anime definitely runs more toward the techno-fetishism as opposed to the fetish-fetishism. GitS, DeathNote, Appleseed, Full Metal Alchemist, even Steel Angel Kurumi, and Chobits.
-
Heh. When I first read panel one, I thought Marten was actually Dora, and vice versa. Yay, androgyny!
-
Martin's tits aren't that big.
-
Full Metal Alchemist
I could never get into that show.
And now, in completely unrelated news, a thinking excercise:
Imagine if you will, that some guy outlined the basic plot of a Japanese cartoon about two alchemist brothers in a world very much like World War II era Europe. Then he went to two people and asked them to write a more detailed script for the plot. One of those people is a complete sociopath, such as Charles Manson. The other is a horribly unfunny comedian, such as Carlos Mencia. Although at this point you undoubtedly don't want to, try and imagine what kind of show they would make together.
If you answered "Full Metal Alchemist", you are probably correct. The show suffers from probably the worst mood whiplash I've ever seen in ANYTHING. The whole thing basically alternates between scenes of Ed having a wacky chibi meltdown stemming from his Napoleon complex and scenes of rape, slaughter and the consequences of using a form of magic that has highly questionable ethics built in.
Although I guess it's unfair to criticize Full Metal Alchemist for its horrible comedy when the comedy in question is only as awful as most of all other anime. Those facefaults, sweatdrops, "I talk very fast in non-sequiturs" archetypes (I hate Onsokumaru and you should too, you are not morally obligated to like an anime character just because he's voiced by Norio Wakamoto) and people getting nosebleed from seeing panties are hilarious, amirite guys.
Well this sure is a lovely wall of text I built entirely out of bile

It would be hilarious if guys actually walked around spontaneously bleeding from the nose at the sight of ladies intimates. You can just imagine the pools in front of lingerie stores.
It might make getting laid tricky though.
-
There's a missing option on your poll - "Stuff where the guy and the girl/two guys/two girls actually love each other."
Seriously, there is hentai like that.
-

No, you see, what it is is a special ability that anime males have - they can, by conscious choice, prevent certain physical symptoms of their arousal by redirecting the blood to their nose.
Though why they don't just hold a notebook in front of it...
-
Because if it's hentai, a notebook wouldn't be big enough, if you know what I mean.

Of course, with the right fans, any anime can be hentai.

Of course, with the right fans, any anime can be hentai.
According to Rule 34, anything can be hentai.
Despite being a professional nerd, I'm not into really into manga at all. Usually I find the stories confusing, hard to follow, and often incredibly slow-moving (Kind of like baseball, there's a lot of flailing about, but the score rarely advances). I'm not usually an anime fan either, but there are two exceptions, and I'm not sure why:
- Planetes: I even enjoyed the anime enough to get the original manga too.
- Ghost In The Shell: I really liked all the anime variations, but never got into the manga.
I play go (though we usually call the game weiqi ) so I tried to get into Hiraku No Go. It's OK, but the loutish male-chauvinism left a nasty taste in my mouth. To be fair, I suppose I'm outside the target demographic of a shonen work.

Hey guys
How about we move this anime discussion to an area that isn't the QC discussion???
don't get me wrong, I like some as much as the next guy
but come on.

so, this might seem out of place with all the anime talk and I'm sure it's been covered before, but why is Dora's hair all black again? An attempt at looking nice for Marten's dad or just a plain ol' error?

My reading of Dora's character is that she doesn't feel like she knows how to be a Blonde.
So in times of stress you go with what you know.

Plus it looks better.

I don't know anything about tentacle monsters. Someone says the phrase, first thing that comes to mind is the cephalopod Architeuthis.
How would you rape a Giant Squid? Find the ink sac, and do naughty things? I don't know. All I know is, keep your little Jimmy John away from the fucking beak.

<_<

Ummmmmmmmmmm
Then again, this is Pintsize - so why am I so surprised?

The whole concept simply makes me want to back away slowly wiht no sudden movements.

That only works on dinosaurs! And not very well! Squid can see static colour with at least the same acuity humans can - your best chance is to run like hell and hope someone else is slower.

Send for your things later.

Comiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic. Huzzah!
Is it just me, or is Marigold even more socially awkward than usual? Perhaps it is just because she was taken off-guard or is embarrassed about knowing so much about Magical Love Gentlemen.
I wish I could place myself into a 3d version to see which character she is looking at most awkwardly, as someone who enjoys melodrama I would hope it is Marten. Oh I am terrible.
Wait, I just noticed. I think Jeph attributed what should have been Hanner's line to Dora in the second panel.
-
RE: Marten's question of Dora: What else is she gonna check? It's not like she knows anything about the character except that he's from a yaoi manga.

Staring at the shirt, I just noticed that tsundere is an anagram of "dentures". Also of "nerd suet" which cuts a bit close to the junk-food guzzling stereotype.

What sort of hentai do you read/watch?
Stuff that makes Pintsize's look tame 11 (28.2%)
None - Japanese style anime leaves me cold/disturbed 18 (46.2%)
Just what I can pick up at the local Chapters 3 (7.7%)
What is this reading thing you speak of? 7 (17.9%)
Total Voters: 39
Anyway, what is it with checking out male dolls to see if they are anatomically correct?
And its alright Marigold, I won the GW Quiz at the last tourney I entered... Still a nerd, just a different brand of nerdery.
-
I love Marigold's blush in the last panel. Obviously, it was the first thing she checked, too!
Also, did Hanners mean that Faye won't get the joke of a Tsundere shirt, or that she may never get the shirt itself (the biggest hazard of getting someone a gift that you really like)?
-
May not get the joke would be my guess, the shirt looks a little big for Hanners or Marigold.
-
lol tvtropes
-
I'm quiet glad that I didn't understand the joke until I searched for the word...
-
I'm amused by Jeph's steadily increasing anime references, and this one just took the cake.
Faye confirmed for tsundere? I lol'd indeed.
Not too sure about Hanners being that moe though.
-
I would say that she is the most moe character, but that's just me speaking.
-
The is honestly the best possible shirt that Faye could wear.
Too bad she most likely won't...

And give Hannelore a hard smack for suggesting it...
-
I really didn't get this comic. I had to look up what "Tsundere" was, (and it follows that old principle of if the joke has to be explained it isn't funny- even if it would have been otherwise) and I don't know what the "Moe" reference means...
I'm afraid this one was a little too obscure for me. I fail. I'm just not an anime person.
-
And on the other hand, there are a lot of people who didn't get the obscure indie references back when there were a lot of those. About half the comics from those days went WAY over my head. x3 Everyone has something they find funny, and I think it's good when Jeph branches out and references varied stuff.
I actually prefer anime-jokes-I-don't-get to music-jokes-I-don't-get, because it's easier for me to google "tsundere" and go "oh! Haha!" than to figure out, without downloading and listening to their music, why a joke about a band is funny. :P (Before someone jumps on me: I'm not saying QC should stop the music references, of course - that's basically what the comic was founded on ._.)
-
Tsundere = Type of character who is stingy at first, most of the times even violent, but later she's all lovey-dovey. They show their feelings like "t-this is just a friend gift, it doesn't m-mean anything", with a red face while shuttering. Yeah, they really don't love you
Moe = Anything cute. Like small children. Something you'd want to hug and protect, and pinch their cheeks while going kyaaaaaaa with their cuteness.
-
I like how Marigold is blushing in the last panel, probably at dora's comment haha.
-

Definitely +1 on that. And then there's the whole "alien culture" thing with USA-specific references. But that's all part of the QC charm. I think Jeph keeps a pretty good balance. There are lots of other webcomics with a far greater anime/manga slant than this.
-
Despite being a professional nerd
I'm contemplating a career change - what's the pay like?
I have only a smattering of anime/manga - a complete collection of UK magazine Manga Mania, which serialized stuff like Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Appleseed and Dirty Pair, plus two VHS episodes of Kekkou Kamen, which Pintsize would approve of. So I had to stick Tsundere into Google to understand why Faye may well be adding some deliberate Hanner-bruises to the one she accidentally inflicted a few strips ago.
Staring at the shirt, I just noticed that tsundere is an anagram of "dentures". Also of "nerd suet" which cuts a bit close to the junk-food guzzling stereotype.
Also:
need rust rented us dense rut deer nuts
stun deer turn seed steed run use trend
dent user [in which case you would then need to] tend user
nude rest red tunes rude nets used tern
and the ever-popular poop reference: seen turd
Thank you Internet Anagram Solver (http://wordsmith.org/anagram/)
-
Is it just me or does it feel like there should be a band out there called "Used Tern"?
-
Shankmaster: In Syrup's defense, lots of dudes use girls in their avvies.
Aw, thank you, though my hat is actually a sleeping cap (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v47/chickchuckcomeau/AnimeExpo/AX07005.jpg). And Full Metal Alchemist was amazing, and the first anime to make me cry. Brotherhood is getting pretty intense, too.
Hm. I'm never seen an anime plushie that wasn't chibified. Long limbs? Interesting.
-
They exist. I have seen them.
-
So subtle...

or not.
-
Sigh... it probably says something about my personality/character that I read through all this and the only thought that comes to mind is: "I remember when Hanners was first introduced into the comic and she had long hair"...
...Fire away...
-
"Load."
"UP!"
"Away!!"
:D
Dawwwwww Mari-Bear looks cute when she's embarrassed.
I think Faye will either have a blank look on her face or glower at Hanners (at least). Just so long as she doesn't chase her with the Malaysian Battle Spatula. :D
-

I'm not an anime guy, so I didn't get the Tsundere joke, and therefore my thoughts were likewise of a different nature than the majority of the good folk here.
EDIT: That sentence certainly changed style from the beginning to the end.
-
I never got the indie music stuff either, but you could usually understand the joke even if you didn't know the music or artist. But the anime stuff has waaaaay too much vacabulary to do that!
To be honest, I didn't get the tsundere reference either, but I didn't have to look it up.
I just asked my daughter...
-
I actually had never heard that term until very recently, and it was in relation to a Watchmen comic someone posted on DeviantArt. *shrug*

not only this, but they flip back and forth between the two.
-
Jeph Jacques - expanding the cultural boundaries of his readership one strip at a time.
-
Also, there is another type of Tsundere, someone who is calm and sweet on the outside but has a short trigger fuse when it comes to their love interest.
-
In another nod to anime, this arc will eventually lead to Hanners slowly transforming her neuroses into the basis of becoming a Yandere.
-
Either that or they'll meed two nice nerdy boys who are into Yuri.

like Helga from the old "Hey Arnold" cartoons on nick?
-
Bingo! A perfect example!
-
Im trying to think who the "Moe" was in that...the red head girl arnold liked? or maybe the clumsey dude eugine?
-
And now to end this thing:
What's in the bags ?
Rare, unusual or new manga 5 (12.5%)
Something that would leave us cold/disturbed 12 (30%)
Nothing to see here, move along 10 (25%)
Something nice for Jeph 6 (15%)
Pancakes! 7 (17.5%)

Even though it is now later on Saturday evening - consult the new poll

Perhaps because you left out an option for those that read but have never even tried hentai/anime/whatever?
-
Perhaps.
-
Perhaps.
I think you meant "subtlety" in the current poll?
-
Yes, he did. So not only subtlety, but spelling.
And who's Murgheil?
-
Yes, he did. So not only subtlety, but spelling.
And who's Murgheil?
Nice use of irony. For the clueless, Muirghiel (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php?action=profile;u=14007).
-
Ah. Spelling again. No wonder I got "no results"...
And from you, the irony complement means a lot!
-
So, based on the results below:
Should BR continue to do polls if he starts the WCT thread?
Yes - sometimes he's even funny 15 (60%)
No - he's a horrible human being with no regard for subtly 6 (24%)
Only if Jeph says its OK 0 (0%)
Sorry what was the question? I was thinking about Murgheil's bouncing tits. 4 (16%)
Total Voters: 25
I can continue with polls, but based on some of the other comments, I need to use spellcheck more often.....
